The Brussels sprouts with cumin crema was great. I really enjoyed the flavor, texture, quality, and really everything about the beef of the burger, but the cheese between and around the patties caused them to slide around and out of the buns, there weren't enough caramelized onions, the bun was soggy, and it could use arugula or something fresh and maybe a balsamic glaze to slice through the kind of pure fat flavor and add something else. The pork au jus with ramen dipping sauce was good, the pickled red onions were way too acidic though. The bread was really hard and crunchy and thick, and the meat was in large chunks, which made it hard to take a bite without taking all the meat at once. The meat should be sliced thinner or in smaller chunks. The fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly, crisp and crunchy outside and soft inside. The s'mores sundae was great with marshmallow melted on the bowl and graham crackers on one side, and smoked vanilla ice cream and smoked salt. The smokiness was great. I liked the tent with string lights and a cable and speakers to play your phone's music. There's a propane heater which I appreciated for dinner but the fan was loud so I ended up just turning off the music. Great service, overall great food, very fun experience overall. read more

Excellent outside seating area with good spacing. As the night got chilly they lit up the fire pit but not before they chopped the wood up with an ax. Also dart boards for your sporting pleasure. Great cocktails. Good selection of rum and other spirits and beers too. Wings are crispy. Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection. Warm beets were also scrumptious. Our table also enjoyed the trout, a burger and their off the chain homemade pickles. Looking forward to our next visit as their menu changes to offer new flavors and as the chef experiments. I'm sorry, I wanted to like this place so badly. I understand what you are trying to achieve in your menu. Something different from the rest of the eatery's in our area. I respect that and showed up excited to try it! Our waitress was not personable l. She did not seem excited to be at work. It had just opened for dinner, and it wasn't even busy, maybe she had a bad day, and I hope it got better. I had the lamb, which had flavors that did not match well and overwhelmed the lamb, which was PINK in the middle and not even warm. The Brussels sprouts weren't done enough, and the crème you put on top was waaaay too excessive. It should be drizzled on top, not tossed/doused in that sauce. Our drinks were basically straight alcohol which is great if you're trying to get drunk. There were kids all over the place which is wonderful, but this is not a family seeming establishment. At all. My friends got honey pop corn chiefs was ALL dark meat, most pieces being only bread, and the hot honey was too overwhelming for her to even eat. We had to have more food afterward so she could have a proper dinner. I'm angry because this was our Christmas dinner together. I'm so disappointed. My wife and I were hunting for a nice restaurant with decent outdoor seating. Timber! did not disappoint. Also. The food is good. Like, very good! I do not feel as if the food was worth the price. Entrees weren't bad, however, just not worth the money. A "fancy" turkey leg entree was $19 and nothing special. The environment and atmosphere are awesome and it is a great place to relax. read more

Went here last night for my birthday dinner and it was perfect! They have a large patio area behind the restaurant with lots of seating, pretty lights, and some lawn games. The food was incredible - don't miss out on the pork bites! Some of the most tender pork I've ever had. The burger was delicious as well. A great (and needed) addition to the Tri-Cities dining scene. Our Sunday lunch was delicious! One of the best burgers we've had in a long time, and the best burger in the area. Steak tartare was perfectly prepared, kept unpretentious by playfully serving it with a bag of Ruffles. The rest of food menu looked intriguing with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients. Great selection of craft beer on tap. The Elkmont Exchange Pilsner paired perfectly with lunch. Cocktail menu was creative and original. For my first visit, I ordered the Paper Plane cocktail and the trout. I was pleased with both and with the service. My trout had a crispy skin, nicely cooked and finished with a slight mustard sauce. The succotash served with it tasted fresh and crisp. The price was most reasonable! We will go again! read more

The staff were friendly and we were seated quickly. Ordered the elk frites, which the menu specifies is served medium-rare, and it came out very well done. I never send food back, but I did send this back which the server was happy to remake. Second one came out super rare, like cold-in-the-middle rare. My wife and daughter ordered the burger, which the menu specifies as cooked through. They weren't. They were both rare to medium rare. Don't waste your money. $9 for two corn dogs which turned out to be one hotdog cut in half! The other two entrees were nothing special the tri tip steak was barely enough to constitute much more than an appetizer portion and I left hungry. I wouldn't go back unless major changes are made. Order at counter no servers not the kind of prices for that type of food service. Living in Asheville I know good food and quality as well As service. We weren't even asked how the food was. Also the potatoes cakes had what seemed to be almost raw chunk s of potatoes in them. In closing I have had better food at most fast food joints. P.s. As I waked out to the back patio the dishwasher station is right there in the open and I was sprayed with dish water not a way to start off an evening out. read more

Had dinner here and wasn't a fan of the food or the service. Waited in a long cramped line to order at the counter and felt like I was in the way the whole time. Seating is limited but someone got up from the bar and we got a seat there. After ~15 minutes, had to ask someone to clear the previous diners dishes. They didn't even bother to wipe the counter off. Food arrived. Burger was small and average in taste. Fries were cold. Definitely not worth the price. Trout was bland and accompanying veggies were undercooked and under seasoned. No servers ever came back to check on us or refill our water. Won't be returning here. read more

I've been consistently going to Timber since they opened in August and it's one of my favorite spots in Johnson city! The drink menu is fantastic, and the servers are all very kind. Their burger is delicious, but my favorite item is the seasonal veggie plate, which changes regularly depending on what local produce the restaurant has. The back patio is great for warm days and very family friendly. It's a nice midway between upscale-quality food and drinks but a calm, laid-back and neighborhood atmosphere. Had a Friday date night at Timber! We were both very disappointed after reading the glowing reviews. The restaurant is indeed casual, but very overpriced for the just-average quality food. The restaurant is in a bad location, is very unfinished, and feels like they are unsure of what they are doing. Hopefully this will improve in time. I find it necessary to outline my visit as to possibly help the restaurant or advise others of what to expect. There was a line extending from the counter where you order towards the kitchen with staff constantly going back and forth trying to get around the line. Other staff members are constantly asking people to move out of the way so they can open the large walk-in freezer door. We tried to read the menu, but there was not enough light in the hallway to read. The menu instructs you on how to order and says to signal a hostess if one is needed. Options are eclectic but few. We noticed lots of food on a shelf in the kitchen with no one bringing it out to patrons. We finally ordered and received a number. The receipt even had a space for a tip when you are paying before receiving any actual service. That kind of bugged me. It's a small nit-pick but is representative of the larger disorganization. Seating is minimal with several picnic tables and some comfortable bar stools inside. An inside lounge area is present as well as some outdoor seating although we were told it may or may not be open on a 90 degree August evening. We waited a long time for our food to come out. We sat at the bar with the last diners' glasses and plates left on the bar until we requested a hostess remove them after sitting there for 10+ minutes. No one wiped the bar area down either. Luckily the last diners weren't messy. We ordered the pan seared trout and a cheeseburger. The thin burger patties were pretty bare and definitely not worth $12. It came with cheese and onions on the burger, no other condiments. The fries were homemade and alright, but we've had better. A $5 fast food burger would have provided better quality and quantity. I recently paid $10 for a burger at Chop House that was much better and was enough to share between at least two people. The trout was not fishy but had no special taste with its possibly mustard-based glaze with corn, green peppers, and a few other veggies composing the dish. The smoky-flavored bacon was not good. The drink menu was not very interesting. Some drinks use nitrogen to chill the glass. That was pretty cool to see. Their beer appeared very foamy. We saw several drinks made that were just sitting there, not going to anyone for several minutes. The bartenders appeared to be cleaning their prep areas as they worked. We saw multiple people ordering the burger and corn dogs. None of the food looked exceptional. For the price, we were very disappointed in this new restaurant. When I went back and read the reviews again, they all seem to read very similar from one to the next. All gave it 5 stars and spoke of the exceptional quality. I saw the complete opposite. We believe the restaurant has an identity crisis wanting to be a family restaurant with lots of people bringing in infants and toddlers (nothing on the menu would interest kids besides the corn dogs) but more closely resembling the typical Johnson City bar with an air of a minor outdoorsy/national park theme. The outdoor seating area is right next to the road. The walls were pretty bare. Water was room temperature in small plastic glasses poured from an old brown bottle. There is no air conditioning or fans in the restaurant from what we observed. This was our experience dining in this new restaurant for the first and probably only time. No one even asked if we needed anything or were enjoying the meal. We ended up going to another restaurant because we were still hungry after eating here. Hopefully this information will help the owners to fine-tune their new restaurant. There is potential, but many changes are needed to improve the service, ambiance, and food. Maybe they are only catering to the yuppie crowd, but we were not impressed and have found much better local dining options. read more
