Honestly, this is one of the best meals I've had in a long time - hands down. I live in an area of NC that is bursting with "upscale" and inventive dining options, and Timber! blew them all away. The first hint that I was going to enjoy my meal was the cleverly mangled cocktail umbrella that graced my (aptly-named) Hurricane. I appreciate a good cocktail as much as I do a subtle joke, and both delivered. After much deliberation, my husband and I ordered the beef tartare (perfectly chopped and herbed), lamb meatballs (juicy), corn ribs with Alabama white sauce (YUM), endive Cesar salad (crispy, refreshing), fried green tomatoes, corn/tapioca fritters with crab salad, and mushroom tartine. Stand-outs were the fried green tomatoes which were the decadent embodiment of summertime, as well as the mushroom tartine which was warming and earthy in the best way possible. The only thing I could only have one of was the corn-tapioca fritters which were unique in texture but on the heavier side due to being fried. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff/servers. All in all, a delicious meal with a plentiful-but-manageable range of options. I live 4 hours away but would gladly make the drive to come back here. Seriously. read more

The service was on point. The drinks were delicious--cider and a mixed drink. The food was really good. Three burgers all cooked perfectly on the flat top. The fries were crisped and well salted. The best food in Johnson City. Many have tried but failed either in quality, service or presentation. The decor is rustic and minimalist with wooden tables a bit close but the restaurant is a bit small. A most unassuming location near a laundry mat. Do not let this interfere with your visit. Service was excellent and the craft cocktails unique, interesting and good. My partner had Fried Green Tomatoes. Two 3/4 inch slices which were tender and firm with a coating that crackled when cut and remained attached to the tomato. The tomato must have been cooked Sous Vide to keep such shape and tenderness. Served with a whipped goat cheese and honey. Divine. I had Steak Tartare with sourdough chips. Excellent, though I at first question the addition of tomatoes. It worked well. Entrees: Pork Belly, no slices here. Presented with a four inch round 1/2 thick slab with a crisp outer crust and a tender juicy center. Awesome sweet potato purée and pickled chayote, charred scallion and aji mojo vinaigrette, shallots. Shawarma Lamb Neck. An experience in itself. A beautiful bone in hunk of lamb on a service plate accompanied by chili oil pickles , herb salad , lemon, lamb jus and paratha roti flat bread. The crowd was a mix of young and young at heart. I don't write many reviews on Yelp. I like to "lurk" and see what everyone else writes/thinks. Timber!! compelled me write a 5 star review. Tri-cities food scene is lacking to put it nicely. Timber hit on all cylinders. Food, service, ambience, drinks, etc. If I really wanted to nit-pick I guess there could have been music out back on the lovely patio area. Not only is Timber a great spot for the tri-cities but this place is better than most restaurants in Nashville(where I live) or Asheville(where I visit a lot). I go every time I'm back in JC. This restaurant has been on my list for a while and I'm so glad we finally decided to try it out!! The restaurant itself was so cute, I just wish it had been nicer and we could have sat outside or in one of the tents! We got brussel sprouts and the ranch dusted Dino nuggets to start and they were both FAB! I got the pork Au Jus for dinner and it was so so good and the fries were perfection! Great outdoor space. Campy and fun. They even have some old skool tents over picnic benches. And the food--we tried the grilled ramps and it was perfect w the cheese plate and Dino-tenders. Yes chicken nuggets w tons of flavor and a kick. I just love this place and always delighted with the cheeky inventiveness of the food. Feel fortunate to have this in our lil town! I've had my eye on this restaurant for a while now, and finally stopped by tonight with a friend. What a delightful experience! Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. The house-made ricotta with watermelon radishes and a little baguette was incredible- so creamy, perfect flavors, just amazing. Then the farrow salad was just next level- the hazelnuts add a toasty crunch, the herbs make it divine. We also had the beets with whipped tahini and it was just great. The orange wine was great, and my friend said her martini was too. We ended the night with smoked vanilla ice cream and it was sooo creamy, and the smoked salt was just perfect in it. The environment is really nice too- not stuffy or too fancy, decorated in a national parks theme, nice soft lighting. The bartender was awesome and so helpful and knowledgeable. Stopped in the other night with friends for our first visit. Sampled multiple items off the Leave No Trace (limited/seasonal) menu and enjoyed some of the best food we have had in the fifteen years we've been in the area. Seriously, it's that good. After being open only for a month, I think they're doing a pretty damn good job. My girlfriend and I went last night, and we thought the food was delicious, plate presentation was excellent, and the service wasn't too bad. The portions aren't the largest, but the quality of the food and the presentation of the dish makes up for it. Here's my tips for the owners/management: 1) Have a sign when you walk in with a stack of menus letting people to know order at the bar. Currently when you walk in it's a little confusing if you don't know the process, and you have to fight your way through the crowd to get a menu. 2) Have a divider or something to split the order area off from the bar - there was a bit of a cluster up there and nobody knew who was hanging out or who was ordering. 3) Parking is kinda tough, and without lines around the sides of the building, people don't know how to park efficiently. Parking space lines would be helpful, or a statement on street parking would be helpful. read more

The only legit charcuterie board in the Tri-Cities, rather than the usual Oscar Meyer and Kraft selections served at other restaurants in the area. Quality of food was on spot, and it's great to support local farm to table. Cocktails were great. Service and bartenders were very friendly. Outdoor area has great potential - bocce ball would be great. One star deducted for the ordering logistics and layout. Shouldn't have to walk through part of the kitchen to go outside. The Brussels sprouts with cumin crema was great. I really enjoyed the flavor, texture, quality, and really everything about the beef of the burger, but the cheese between and around the patties caused them to slide around and out of the buns, there weren't enough caramelized onions, the bun was soggy, and it could use arugula or something fresh and maybe a balsamic glaze to slice through the kind of pure fat flavor and add something else. The pork au jus with ramen dipping sauce was good, the pickled red onions were way too acidic though. The bread was really hard and crunchy and thick, and the meat was in large chunks, which made it hard to take a bite without taking all the meat at once. The meat should be sliced thinner or in smaller chunks. The fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly, crisp and crunchy outside and soft inside. The s'mores sundae was great with marshmallow melted on the bowl and graham crackers on one side, and smoked vanilla ice cream and smoked salt. The smokiness was great. I liked the tent with string lights and a cable and speakers to play your phone's music. There's a propane heater which I appreciated for dinner but the fan was loud so I ended up just turning off the music. Great service, overall great food, very fun experience overall. read more

Excellent outside seating area with good spacing. As the night got chilly they lit up the fire pit but not before they chopped the wood up with an ax. Also dart boards for your sporting pleasure. Great cocktails. Good selection of rum and other spirits and beers too. Wings are crispy. Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection. Warm beets were also scrumptious. Our table also enjoyed the trout, a burger and their off the chain homemade pickles. Looking forward to our next visit as their menu changes to offer new flavors and as the chef experiments.
