TIM FINNEGAN INCIDENT BE FOREWARNED... This review critiques a server, not the food. I was flown down to Florida for work at the very beginning of this year. On Saturday afternoon, February 11, just before going to dinner at Tim Finnegan's, I was told that a very close family member had passed away. It devastated me. Hours later, I received a call from one of my first cousins to tell me her brother in law (a dear friend) had also passed on the same day. On top of that, SHE was just diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. You can only imagine my heartbreak. I'm in he entertainment business and had to perform a matinee and evening show that day. I'd actually gone to Tim's for dinner at about 5:30PM that day. After the second show about 10 of us went to Tim Finn's for a post show drink and bite. Truly good food and spirits. In the past year, I've spent several hundred dollars dinning there. This review is not about their cuisine, but about a rather ugly, hateful, insensitive and rude waiter named JR. Through the months many of us have suffered him being short with us and hurried along by him. In the spring I witnessed him having a heated altercation with my friend and co-worker who's been a regular there for quite sometime. They eventually resolved the issue but JR would often still behave in a discourteous manor. We'd put up with it because the food, drink and late hours of operation worked for us. Well, on this particular evening, after getting all of this aforementioned bad news, my hungry compadres went over to the pub. Several of us joined minutes later. We were told by JR that we only had 10 more minutes to order before the kitchen closed. He took my order of a soft pretzel and a beer. He left and came back a few minutes later to drop off drinks to several who'd ordered prior to me and to take the order of a friend who'd just sat down across from me. In the meantime, three other pals who'd just arrived, had, momentarily, gone over to say hi to friends across the patio dinning area. They didn't know they now only had 5 minutes to order food. JR took the order of my friend who'd sat across from me. Knowing the pals who'd walked over to say hi to friends across the way were very hungry, I started to yell to them that they needed to get their order in. It was at this point that this disturbed waiter, JR, interrupted and tore off my head screaming at me that, "THERE'S SOMEONE AT THAT TABLE THAT'LL TAKE THEIR ORDER! STOP TRYING TO CONTROL THINGS, (my name)!!" Already feeling at wits end, I let him have it. I told him that I'd just lost two family members, to which he sneered as if to say, "So what!". I went on to tell him, "YOU DON'T KNOW PEOPLE'S BACKSTORY WHEN YOU TREAT THEM WITH THE DISRESPECT YOU JUST DISPLAYED...etc!" I was completely undone. As much as I wanted...needed...the comfort and care from my fellow cast mates at this particular time, I had to get up and leave. Several came out into the parking lot to support and rally behind me for the heinous way this impudent server treated me. Later, some vowed not to return. I certainly wouldn't hold anyone to that. Let me begin by saying. This is such an authentic place. Scotch eggs say it all!! Any real irish pub has scotch eggs on the menu. The food is ridiculously good. one of our stops each time we r in South Florida. The Irish food is very good but,this visit was on a Tuesday and I made the mistake of ordering the Tuesday prime rib special.The meal was awful. The meat was so tough I could not chew the first couple of pieces and had to spit it out and leave at least 3/4 of the prime rib. Food,drink and entertainment are usually excellent but,don't order the prime rib special. read more

I love the staff here and wish I could write more. I was there only for a visit each of 2 days. Everyone, including the locals are welcoming. The food is great. The whiskey selection is excellent with the server knowing so much about what to recommend. I highly recommend sitting in the bar area at the round tables if it's a slow day, as it's a much more personal experience. Otherwise if you want to be on your own, there is the whole rest of the restaurant - at least during the dead of day. I imagine this place is super busy at night. I was told there are music sessions, Irish language sessions, and trivia night or so. If I'm back in town in Palm Beach, this is one the first places I will go back to. I loved this place and I don't give that out lightly, 5 stars are more rare for my ratings. I reiterate I love this place! My buddy and I stopped by for lunch on 10/25. We had Smithwicks from the tap which fulfilled our expectations to the max. Then, our orders of mussels arrived. Now, mussels are listed as an appetizer but I was quite disappointed in the quantity and quality. The sauce was great and thankfully we were given enough bread to enjoy it. Nevertheless, I definitely would not order mussels there again. Service, however, was fine. Didn't complain to her either. I'm a visitor from out of town but I'm a fan of Irish pubs so I may return one day. read more

The Orphans 3 had this place on our radar for a while and since we were in the mood for some good "bar" food we came here! It was a Friday afternoon and the place was a tad quiet which is just what we enjoyed as we sat down. The atmosphere was very pleasant reminding me of a bar in Upstate NY .... very cozy! Our server attended to us immediately and handed us an interesting menu and recited off the specials for the day! George went for the special Fish and Chips lunch, Ken who was in search of a Corned Beef and Cabbage plate ordered just that and as for me nothing like a traditional Bangers and Mash to bring back old memories of my good old days in Oldham the Doomp on the outskirts of Manchester, England! The flavor was spot on and the portions were quite generous! Lisa the owner stopped by to see how we were all doing which was s nice touch and the Orphans 3 left they feeling good! I stopped here spontaneously and found a gem! I had a nice, fresh, cold draft and to eat enjoyed the best two Scottish eggs I have ever had! I also enjoyed the fish n chips! We met friends here to watch the Italy v England euro finals. Even though it was crowded we had fabulous service and the food was outstanding! We had the fish and chips and Sheppards pie both of which we will probably reorder the next time we go! Also, plenty of parking. read more

Our Meet-Up group booked a 25-person reservation at Tim Finnegans over a month ago. We were looking forward to celebrating a member's birthday and spent weeks coordinating the party and making sure friends and family could attend - some traveling from out of town. This afternoon just six hours before the party, the restaurant let us know they made a mistake - there is special event there tonight, and they shouldn't have let us book the table. Then they abruptly canceled our reservation without trying to rectify the situation in any way or offer us anything to make up for the inconvenience and last-minute notice. Even after we explained that the reservation was for a birthday party that people were traveling miles to attend, they refused to make any attempt to make things right. We had to cancel the party since it is the height of the season, and all area restaurants we tried were booked. We weren't able to reach several members of the group, so they will be showing up tonight with gifts and balloons for the birthday girl who won't be celebrating her special day. They will be turned away at the door. And I have a HUGE ice cream cake in my fridge that will go to waste because I'm on a diet and my husband is diabetic. I would advise any large groups to think twice before booking reservations at this restaurant. Its owners do not value their customers (most members of group are regulars!). We went into Tim Finnegan's for the second time this week. We usually like the place and sit at the bar. The other day, the bartender. Jen was wonderful, friendly and helpful. Tonight, we entered looking for seats at the bar. There were only two seats left all the way at the end of the bar. We've sat there before and it feels like you are way out of the action. My wife was standing behind, what she thought was an empty seat. She didn't notice the keys on the bar. When I came back from the men's room, one of the bartenders came up to my wife and loudly yelled what sounded like an order that we should go sit in those chairs. She was loud and rude to us, expecting us to meekly follow her orders. Then she bellowed that we were not allowed to hover behind the seated customers. Actually, we were just trying to decide where to sit when she came up to us. We were standing there for lass than 5 minutes. I was in the hospitality industry for many years and if one of my employees acted like that. I would have fired her on the spot. She lost the owners over $90 last night, which is what our bill the other night was, not to mention future visits. I'd be pissed ig I was the owner, especially in today's climate. I understand that Finnegan's has a loyal following of regulars. We have always gotten along with everyone there. This time one of the "men" there shouted out a smart ass remark which I ignored as we walked out the door. I'm not expecting anything from this review except maybe some snide remarks. So be it. I tried this place for the first time today and the cod fish entree is delicious. The fish is flaky and yummy and they give you 2 pieces which are huge; way more than enough, so good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the cole slaw was not fresh, bummer. read more

I love Tim Finnegan's pub and the owners!! I had a large party in their semi-private room that is adorable! We all enjoyed the live music and delicious food! Everything on the menu is great!! Fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, chicken curry, shepard's pie etc. JR our server went above and beyond to make the event extra special. Went to Tim's last night for the Witches Brew fund raiser. What fun was had! Amazing silent auction items that raised a lot of money. The food never disappoints. I had the mussels and they were delish. Plenty of garlic Vampires beware!! Then the chicken curry. The sauce had lots of flavor and the chicken was so very tender and the rice was very flavorful. Just delicious. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Guest DJ John Brewer had the tunes just right and people on the dance floor like it was 1999!!! I was in town for the boca raton bowl and found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try due to the reviews on December 18th. When I arrived, there was an Irish band playing which added to the atmosphere. I always sit at the bar when I'm alone. The bartenders made me feel so welcome being from out of town and alone. All of the food around me smelled amazing. They had a special that day but I went with one of their specialties the drunken chicken. Oh my! It was so good!!! Hands down the best fish and chips in PBC! The prices are decent (great deal during Lent!) and there's live music or oldies on the PA. A lot of people in the area make this their happy hour spot. The pieces of fish are so big that you could share a plate and still remove for soup and/or dessert and Guinness ;) draw back: the tartar sauce is not on the same level as the fish. read more

Worst Irish bar & food I've had anytime, anywhere, period! Limited menu, flat beer, poor service.

Went with friends for a birthday lunch. I'd never had shepherds pie so I decided to try it. The waitress said people tell her it's great. Famous last words. It was soupy and bland. Everyone who's had it said it should be neither of those things. I tried a piece of the fried cod that the birthday girl had and it was outstanding. Prices were high (but lately, what isn't) and the service was good. I'd try it again, but certainly not shepherds pie. As far as ambiance...it's a bar! read more

My new favorite spot in Palm Beach! Six of us went here last night after dinner for a friend's birthday. This spot is hidden behind Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine, so easy to miss, but totally worth the effort to find it. We had drinks flowing all night by two amazingly fun and friendly bartenders, JR and Faith. The owner, Lisa (by the way - bars are always better when run by women), was SO friendly and gracious. From letting us take birthday photos behind the bar to letting us up ON the bar, to hooking us ladies up with cute Finnegan tanks.. we had such an amazingly memorable night. No where else I've been had a bartender (a super skilled bartender, at that), get out from behind the bar to belt out and dance to music ranging from The Smiths to Jay Z side by side with my friends and I. AND he kept up with us the whole night through. Soooo happy this was our destination choice. The night could not have been any better, and no other bar could have provided us with the time we had last night. Patrons for life now! read more

We sat @ bar. There are different themes such as live music, bands & trivia game night. Service was attentive & leisure. We spent $35.51 between 2 people; recommend Irish breakfast (available on Sunday brunch only), potato soup, beef & vegetable soup, fish & chips, mussels, baked cod, fried fish sandwich, turkey club, bangers & mash, ribs, bruschetta, scotch eggs, key lime tart & cheese platter. Patty melt was good; not soggy. Shepherds pie was huge but too salty for my taste. Bread pudding tasted burnt. There are dart boards & pool table; serves the BEST Irish breakfast. If I didn't have to work later, I would have ordered Irish/Bailey's coffee. read more

Best Irish Bar with awards to prove it:) We recently hosted a party at Tim Finnegans to celebrate living in America (from Scotland) for 25 years. Lisa and the staff were amazing. They took care of everything and all we had to do was relax and enjoy the evening. My guests had a fantastic time and everyone loved the food. The band Lisa hired for the evening were amazing and the perfect genre for the night. I cannot recomment Tim Finnegans enough for a great party. read more

This place is so much fun. The food, drinks and service are all excellent. The kids love the Black and Tan Onion Rings and the giant pretzel, so much so that my daughter had a pretzel for desert. The curry chicken came highly recommended.and did not miss the mark. The staff was attentive and made sure the kids had darts to throw. First time customer and we will return. First bite of our entrees and we looked at each other as if to say, "OK, so now we have to move here". Very friendly and prompt staff. Beef & Vegetable Soup was really good and the bread with it was fantastic. Only touch that would have added a dab of authenticity would have been to use some real Irish butter, as opposed to the regular packaged stuff. But no matter. The entrees were well-prepared and portions were good. Everyone goes home with a doggie bag. What was perhaps the most surprising was when the bill came. Last night , drove to south Delray to Tim Finnegans to eat and listen to some authentic Irish music. We made reservations, although I'm not sure you have to on most nights and were welcomed and seated promptly. Played our drink order ( they offer a broad selection of Irish whiskey and Irish beer on tap. The food is unadorned, hearty pub food, the kind you might find in an Irish pub. Our entrees were quite good and more than adequate portion size. I must say, table service was slower than I'm used to, but we're all aware of the shortage in service folks and our server performed under way less than ideal circumstances. Prices are modest. Figure $50.00 or less per person with an app, entree and a couple of drinks. Big parking lot, so parking is no problem. The entertainment is a bonus and I understand they have it regularly. A very casual place so you can wear your shorts. We've eaten at a number of Irish pubs in south Florida and I've got to say for food, atmosphere, and entertainment this place ranks high.
