Wanted to watch the All English Soccer match today and heard this was the best place to go. It must be. An hour and a half before game time and the place was absolutely packed. Lucky to find a parking space in the back but we couldn't get in. This is a bar. And I was the only female there (so single gals take notice!). But it was comfortable and cozy. And the food was delish. We'd been heading south on I-95 and decided to take a break from rush hour traffic on the interstate. Stopping for an early dinner we figured we'd avoid the hassle. When we got here, all the seats at the bar were taken. There are less than a dozen. So we sat at one of the two hi top tables by the window. There are two other low top tables in front of 3 of the large screen TVs opposite the bar, but it's a bit dark there. After we ordered drinks and food, two seats opened up at the bar so we moved over there. My husband had a Guinness as it was on tap. We shared an order of their fish and chips. It was a huge piece of fish, perfectly cooked and battered. It came with the most tasty french fries. I think it's one of the best fish and chips I've had here. I didn't have to add anything to it. (Although my husband likes a bit of vinegar and hot sauce.) I made sure to tell the bartender as well as the chef how much I liked it. We even had a large piece of fish to take home. We also shared a scotch egg. Again, the egg inside perfectly cooked with a thin layer of sausage on the outside. It was good, but the fish and chips were my favorite. Everyone was pleasant inside the bar. Sports playing on all the large screen TV's. A bunch of guys enjoying their beers. They have food and drink specials on different days. Trivia on Thursdays. An early dinner stop at this small but nice English Pub. Great service and enough food offerings to keep you happy. The Fish and Chips were off the scale wonderful!...in flavor and large enough for the two of us to share. The Scotch Egg was very good as well topped off with some spicy English Mustard. A small pub without the fake fanciness of many places; it's simple, they keep it real, could be more of a dive place in Chicago than South Florida. I like it, in simple words. They have a very short menu, but you don't come for gourmet, this is a place to chill in an unpretentious pub, have some good beers and maybe a scotch. I had the chicken tenders, plenty of them in the plate; they were okay, but it's not about the place, it's about the fact that in the US the tendency to over bread and over fry chicken is everywhere. So these tenders are in line with most; plenty of steak fries accompanied that. One thing, very important: everything we had that was fried tastes fresh including the oil, which doesn't often happen, even in so-called "upscale pubs". My wife had the fish and chips and it was huge, made with haddock: she loved it: fresh, not too deep fried, she said it was the best one she ever had. Beers are plenty and they are pretty honest also with liquors: I had a Macallan 12 for 12 bucks. They show a lot of soccer games, especially from the British Premier League and they even open early in the morning on the week-end for that. If you plan on going, keep in mind it's a small place so for big games you might want to get there a bit early. Good place to chill for when you feel in a "jeans and t-shirt" mood. It's a sort of Fox and Hound that didn't become fancier, and stayed true to the task: keep it simple, keep it real, cook well a few things, and offer good drinks at reasonable prices. This was my first visit, but it won't be my last. It's small in size, but big in personality. The owner and staff were very welcoming, and so were the patrons. There is seating at the bar, inside tables, and outside. They offer a small menu, of which I chose the fish and chips. They have a full bar of the standard options, no go expecting some fancy concoctions. I enjoyed a Black Velvet, made correctly, with Strongbow on tap. I was a happy girl. We stopped at this bar for a quick dinner on a Saturday. It is a very small pub (they only have 3-4 tables both inside and in the outdoor small patio) and it was almost empty, but I really loved it! It is a very unpretentious place, yet it has a true English pub's vibe. They have a full bar and great beers. The menu is very limited but everything is cheap. I have never been a fan of Fish and Chips, but after reading several positive reviews about the ones made here, I decided to give it a try: they are so good indeed! If that wouldn't be enough: since the portion was huge, I brought home almost half of it to eat for lunch the following day. The leftovers re-heated in the oven tasted even better than the day before! The bartender was great, and also the few people there (you could tell they were regulars) were very welcoming. I also like the fact that the place is dog friendly. If you like European soccer: they show A LOT of matches (I understand they even open the pub at 6am, if needed!). Watching English Premier League Football(soccer) at a proper English pub is one of life's great pleasures. The Lion & Eagle measures up quite well. They have enough television screens mounted on the walls that they can show all the matches. The list of beers is broad and deep - and they even have my favorite (Fat Tire Amber Ale) on drought. The food is authentic - and delicious. Tony, the English chef takes pride in his food. The fish and chips is a really large and perfectly cooked dish. The shepherds pie (really cottage pie, since they use beef instead of lamb) is perfectly spiced and balanced. Even the chips (fries) with curry sauce are excellent. The sauce is rich and flavorful without being overpowering. There is always a good crowd on match days. Football (soccer) at a pub is just right. I'm sitting watching a game and I hear the united nations of accents and I love it! The food - nothing too spectacular but plenty of it - you won't leave hungry and really friendly bar until someone that was probably predrinking before he came in starts going off on this "...Why are they playing soccer...this American (he did NOT say, "America")... plan (he did not say "play") real football ... " - those ellipsis were swear words. And yup it's April Fools but shrug. The only reason I even put that up was because the very first time I tried this place back in 2015 (Saturday, November 7, 2015) the same thing happened. The strange feeling of déjà vu took over and I had to figure it out. Except that time FSU football was playing sooo yeah never worry about getting a half filled mug! Good little no frills pub, that doesn't put on airs but if you want a seat during matches...you may want to get there for breakfast. Yes, breakfast...they're know to open early for a slate of Premier League or Cup matches. Not an extensive food menu, but if you're down with some prototypical English pub grub...it's pretty good. The fish and chips is better than their shepherds...then again, their chips are freshly hand cut and are excellent. Because it's so small and has a loyal following, It's a tough place to find room during matches or just after work on a Friday. Be prepared to give up finding a parking place, only to return another day. That's what we did the first couple of times we tried to visit. While in the area for family matters, I saw the sign "English Pub" on the outside of the strip mall. Turns out, it really is an authentic English Pub. The owner is really from England, and his two brothers help run the place. It feels very English and very quaint on the inside. I felt as if I was back in London. Their beers are very fresh. I am particular about beers, too. They have a good happy hour special. I noticed a lot of people come in as regulars. I would be a regular, too, if I lived more closely. In the Boca area it's tough to find a bar that feels a bit original, and a bit familiar, all at the same time. The day I walked into the Lion and the Eagle I knew I had found such a place. i was in the neighborhood a couple times recently, and I looked around to see what was available for happy hour. besides the obvious spots in Mizner, some pretty good, there was this little spot on US1 I hadn't heard off. Cut to a bit later and some confusion as to where exactly it was located and boom... I was walking into a pretty decent British pub. Now on this day my basketball team was in a big game. But of the TV's they had, it wasn't on. I didn't think the tipsy clientele would mind one of the TV's being changed but normally a bar is hesitant to turn a channel. But the waitress just asked, "Sure, what TV you want changed and to what channel?" now I knew I had something. A couple good drinks later and some good food, and I decided that this spot was one to tell friends about. I did come back the following week. A friend from work and I were talking about a hitting a bar north after work. When we walked into Lion and Eagle he declared it one of the best bars he had been in, in a while. There you go, 2 people telling you its a good spot. It played good music, had great bartenders, and the locals that hung out here were fun. He recommended the fish and chips and the English nachos so we got both. The fish and chips were soooo good. You get a nice big filet which I thought was way better than the strips of fish fingers that most restaurants do. I read a review that said that the gravy was amazing with the fries, so we got a side order to try. They were right.. that Guinness gravy belongs on everything! The English Nachos were also delicious. If you love Shepherds Pie and French fries (and I do!) this is the perfect dish for you. The portion is HUGE and a little overwhelming, consisting of French fries, ground beef, peas, carrots, mushrooms, a little brown gravy, and covered in melted cheese and jalapeños. This is definitely something to share, and between the two of us, we couldn't finish it. Lion and Eagle Pub is the best place to catch a football game. When I went to FAU I always sent any visiting lecturers and visiting Artists to this spot because the food is legit and the beers are always poured right. Back then they were one of the few places to get an interesting type of beer. My friend suggested trying this British pub near his house for lunch, so we decided to give it a try. As we arrived, I was a bit turned off by the commercialized appearance of it: a strip mall, a beige facade, with the pub's name on the top. No British flag, nothing to give it that charm, it looked too clean cut and polished, not edgy enough, but sometimes, the place with the more minimal appearance has the better food. We were greeted to a dog at the doorway and made our way in. We sat at a booth, one of three, and skimmed the menu. I was surprised by how small of a menu it is. I chose the Shepherd's Pie, while my friend had the Bangers and Mash. The food was pretty good, my only issue is the fact that the menu is so small, and I think they should try expanding it. I have never been here at night, so I am not sure if the dinner menu has more options or if there's one menu at all hours of the day. I am inclined to think it's the latter. The other thing (and I am sure I will get a lot of flak for this), is the fact that the dog was roaming around the establishment and putting its nose on our table and my leg. It was just uncomfortable, as we wondered whether the owners would notice our uncomfortable smiles and whisk the dog away. The first couple of times that the dog came by, it was cute, but then, it got annoying, and when the dog also started to bark loudly, my friend and I found ourselves rushing to finish our meal and get out of there. I don't blame our server at all, he was very friendly, and I am sure it might be a touchy situation to handle, especially if the dog owners are regulars. Let it be known, I have no issue with dogs if they're in an outdoor seating area and are behaved or contained, but indoors? Unless it's a guide dog, in which case the dog is there for a purpose (although they're trained to always be very well-mannered), dogs just should not be inside a restaurant -- even if that earns me enemies from my fellow Yelpers. Went here for lunch with wife on a weekday at 2 pm. There are 3 or 4 small tables. We sat at a table, the only table customers this afternoon. We both had the fish (haddock) and chips which were very good to better than very good. Also had a beer, I think the beer was $3, a full pint. The atmosphere was 6 to 10 locals on the younger side and louder side at the bar. The bartender was also the server and he was really on top of everything. We are snowbirds, will go here again for lunch. FYI The evening crowd is mainly younger beer drinkers packed in so may not be suitable dinner environment for a family. A must visit of mine when I visit family in the Boca/ Boynton area. Food is always good, service is always quick, but the atmosphere is what makes it so great. You sort of forget you're in Florida inside the authentic pub, but the patio they put in a few years ago provides ample seating around a very Florida-looking garden. L&E is the best little pub in the county. Happy hour is my favorite time to drink and hang out, add beer on tap, cool bartenders who bring drinks outside and I'm all set. Big TVs add to the excitement and a bar menu is important but it's the option to try beers from over Europe that I most enjoy and having them attracts people from all over Europe, South America and Asia. Went to another pub walked right out and walked 1.8 miles to this place. Saw the reviews of the fish and chips. So we had to try it. The fish was perfect not too much batter. 10oz filet. The scotch eggs were perfect. Oh and they serve a proper pint!! The guys behind the bar are on point! read more

I've been a patron of this bar for a while. I know the owner, his girlfriend, the regulars, all his staff and I've come to love the place. Sadly, with the new barkeep hire, I love it a little less. I brought my service dog, like I often do, and he hesitated to let me inside of the premises. By law he can't do that. Begrudgingly he lets me inside. He asked me to not keep my dog under foot so therefore we go to sit at the booth. Many times before, my dog has sat in the booth with not a peep of worry from the staff. Naturally though, tonight had to be different. Not only did this new bartender (scruffy gray beard and hair guy because I can't remember his name) receipts to go on and on about how disgusting my dogs action was, but also begins to chastise me about his perception of my patronage Call my last visit when I had my first encounter with the gentleman. The lion in Eagle is a fantastic bar for the ambience and the sense of a true watering hole. Sadly though, at least for me, and my service dog Thor, its appeal has been lessened significantly. My honest advice: if the bartender I described is there, leave, or request to be served by one of the other members of staff. read more

After some pizza goodness at Mellow Mushroom, the group I was with wanted to venture over to the Lion & Eagle English Pub for a few after dinner drinks. It isn't the biggest English Pub I've ever been to, but I have to say it has a nicely warm, homey feel to it. Not a big selection on draft but they had your usual English fare. Well stock bar and a few wines if you were in the mood for them. They also have a food menu, but after the pizza onslaught, there was no way I was fitting anything in my belly, so I will leave that for my next visit. A few Crown's on the rocks; which could not break through the pizza damn I built, but as always Crown entertained well. They have a jukebox filled with great songs...Tenacious D filled the room as I took a request of one of the bartenders to play it. This place might be on the small side, but it is filled largely with friendliness and good times. If you are up in the neighborhood or live in the vicinity, it is worth a stop for a quick pint or two. read more
