Choosing the "perfect" tile for any project is difficult. For me---a design-challenged, reluctant remodeler facing a full-house renovation on a tight budget---it felt close to impossible. And with soooooo many tile stores to choose from in Orange Co., where does one even begin? That's why I'm so glad I followed a friend's suggestion to connect with designer Christi Bell at Tile Elements, an independent, family-owned business tucked away on the border of Santa Ana/Costa Mesa. Christi is a dream to work with. Not only does she have an expert eye for design, she's patient, empathetic and a great listener--none of which is typical in the OC design world! I have been working with her for 9 months now, and despite my chronic and often frantic see-sawing on tile choices, Christi has been able to parse through my ever-changing wish lists and steer me to smart, beautiful choices that work perfectly for my restricted budget. The rest of the staff is great, too, especially the guys in the back, who have handled my many orders cheerfully and professionally and are never daunted by my endless inquiries. They also treat my GC and his top assistant very well---a sign of a well-run ship. My GC was very impressed with the wide selection of tools and accessories and said the prices were very competitive with the big box chains. Another thing I like about this shop is its quiet, relaxing vibe. The tile samples are very well organized, which can't be said about a lot of tile shops. I almost always spend more time there than I planned, partly because the atmosphere is so pleasant, almost spa-like (at least for a tile store!). Location is great, too, just a few blocks off the 405 and a 5-minute drive from IKEA--my second home! :) As far as what one reviewer pointed out about the store's lighting, I'm VERY sensitive to lighting (both intensity and color), and I find this issue to be a challenge in nearly every tile store I've visited. Cool overhead lighting (especially fluorescent) can make some grey tiles look more blue, for instance, so I second what another reviewer said about the importance of taking samples home so you can see how tiles will look under your own lighting! Oh! I should mention it's not just tile here. I also got an excellent price on our Pental Super White quartz kitchen countertops. My local counter fabricator was sure he could beat the price of any store, and he was gobsmacked when he realized he couldn't beat their price! I have been floundering for a month trying to put together a design for our downstairs bathroom. I was surfing the internet last night and saw Tile Elements website and read reviews. Purchased Sonoma Tilemakers Stellar tile from Tile Elements. The decorative liner from the Stellar collection did not have sufficient glaze coloring on the sides as it did on the face. I went back to Tile Elements to express my disappointment at Sonoma Tilemakers decorative liner lack of color on the sides. This place and the people are great!!! GREAT experience here and I highly recommend them for your tile needs. The pricing is competitive, but they stand waaay above any of their competitors as far as service and knowledge go. Free design services, and they are open on Saturdays, which is a big plus. They have a store attached to the showroom with grout and supplies, etc. Plenty of parking. I started out at big box stores and a few places on tile row, but got frustrated at the lack of service and care, and I wasn't finding what I really wanted anyway, so I gave up on them. I thought a place that had a showroom and all that would be much more expensive, but it ended up being the contrary and I got such fantastic service. I had an installer come and give me an estimate, and he recommended Tile Elements. AM I GLAD HE DID! I wasn't working with a designer, so I went in still needing a LOT of guidance. I had a vague idea of what I thought I wanted from looking at the model home (I'm in new construction) and I had a plank size in mind, but that's about it. I visited their showroom and was greeted by Rick right away. He's very personable, knowledgeable, and didn't rush me at all. I told him what I thought I was looking for, and he showed me those types of tile all the while explaining the effects of a dark or light color tile in a room, textures, etc. I ended up telling him that it was all a bit overwhelming since I had looked at a lot of tiles thus far and hadn't found what I wanted that was within my budget, my short timeline, and still not clear on what I exactly wanted. He told me to come in early the next day so I could speak with a designer to help me figure things out. I worked with Kathy, who just really went above and beyond to help me with deciding on what I wanted, in the price range that I was looking for, and something that I could get right away. I showed her pictures of what I liked and didn't like. I actually had two inspiration pictures that were the total opposite of each other, yet she was still able to guide me in the right direction, and I ended up with the most beautiful Italian tile which I just absolutely love, within my budget, and in stock. She's very patient, knowledgeable, accommodating, and she slings those big tiles around like they weigh nothing. I never felt rushed or made to feel like I was frustrating her with my lack of direction. One day, I couldn't make it there before they closed to pick up a sample, so she made arrangements so I still could after they closed. They didn't charge me to take home samples. If they didn't have it, they ordered it, and it was there ready to pick up within 2 days. They gave me several of each style/color so I could see how it looks lined up next to each other, in my home, on my floor. One reviewer said to take the tiles outside since "the lighting is poor." I have one suggestion, TAKE TILE SAMPLES HOME. I had so many tiles that I looked at, that I thought I liked, but once I got them home and laid them down on the floor and left them there for a few days, I changed my mind. The way lighting and natural sunlight look in your home will look quite different than in the showroom. Even the size of some of the samples that I took home ended up being not quite right for my space. Glenn was also great. So I happened to stop by this location because they were local. However to make sure I wouldn't miss something in product availability, options or possibly just suffer buyers remorse for lack of research, I ventured off to state college where they have an abundance of vendors. I literally went into every vendors shop and without a doubt Tile Element is by far the best location to conduct business. Their show room is clean, organized and intimate. The layout from show room, to service products, to shop tools, to warehouse and customer service is a prime example they practice what they preach and you will get the same quality and attention to detail when inviting them into a project. We had a terrific experience at Tile Elements. My husband and I needed tile for three bathrooms and a laundry room and were not using an interior designer. I was able to bring inspiration pictures in to their designer and pick out all the tile without any qualms about it working together. They provided numerous samples and allowed me to keep them as long as we needed. We also ordered two quartz countertops and I'm anxious to see how they look installed! Because we were remodeling our entire house, there were some elements that changed as we went along. As walls were built and lighting fixtures installed, the look of the tile changed in a few places. Tile Elements worked with me to remedy this in the least painful (i.e. Expensive) way possible. The only advice I have is that if you're not working with your own designer, talk through all the details with their designer when you meet to discuss tile. I didn't think to choose grout colors or talk about how edges would be finished - and the designer didn't bring it up either. I did a lot of running back and forth choosing little things like that. You will inevitably learn a lot about schulter, ramp edges and standard bull nose :) But honestly, as they provide their design help for free, everyone is friendly and helpful, and tile is ordered and picked up in an efficient manner.....I would recommend Tile Elements to anyone looking for help with their tile! read more

Purchased about 900 square feet of tile. Jessica primarily assisted with the tile selection and provided her feedback only after gaining an understanding on what look I was going for. She truly tried to provide ideas when needed and give reasonable alternatives when asked. The one issue I had was that my install time table was thrown off when the tile i had ordered was sold to someone else. I was told by Tile elements that this was an error on their supplier's side but understood why I would t be happy that I would have to wait 6 weeks for my tile to arrive. Let me start by just saying how truly amazing this local business is. From the first time I stopped in their showroom, I had the most amazing customer service from Christi! She knows her stuff and was so patient in helping me with all my indecisiveness! Christi had me take several samples home many times, and always said to take my time in looking at them in my home. After about a month I finally decided on my floor tile for my kitchen remodel. Next up was the backsplash, and Kathy, Rick and Glen all helped me on those multiple trips to their beautiful showroom. Everything was seamless from start to finish, from the ordering process, quick delivery and great service. After having a problem with the install, and battling with my contractor, Kathy and Rick came to my house to try and help me and to figure out what went wrong. Rick came back a second time with the tile manufacturer and met with my contractor to explain to him what the problem was with the install. That is truly amazing that Rick went out of his way, twice, to try and help me! That is truly the epitome of customer service! We purchased tile and grout for our 2 bathrooms, kitchen and fireplace from them. We were impressed by the beautiful showroom and displays. We were helped in the design process which was wonderful. The negative for this place was that they never told us that we would be paying for freight fees and 30 day return policy. All that we were told is that they were a discounted place and that any box that wasn't opened could be returned for full refund. As with most construction, our contractor had many delays in laying the tile and we had the tile over a month. When we tryed to return them, they said we would have to pay for the return freight fees and would not give us a refund on the unopened box as it was over 30 days. I think the 30 day return is a bit short especially due to the problems with covid and all. While I enjoyed the showroom and the help with design, I am disappointed in the customer service. We spent alot of money on tiles and to not take it back convinced me to never do business here again. read more

Renovating a house is stressful. And trying to pick the right tile can be even more so. Kathy is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of style and is PATIENT. She asks questions to gain an understanding of the style of your home and what you're looking for to help her better help you. Did I say she was patient?? My husband and I had 'slightly' different visions but she helped us work through the differences and when we were going down one path and I got inspired by some new tile I saw in the store, she went with it and helped me choose the complementary tiles to make my vision materialize and have a doubting husband end up loving the end result.
