My party of six came in for a birthday on a day we got hit with 5" of snow. The restaurant was not busy at all. I was the first to arrive and sat at the table for about 10 minutes before a waiter brought water. When I finally got my drink from the bar a second person was at the table and the waiter completely ignored them. We all ordered at the same time but the food came out inconsistently. My eggs came out 10 minutes after everyone else got their food and another person waited 15 minutes longer to get their Avocado Toast. Seriously!!! Avocado Toast took 15 minutes longer than pancakes. This place is run by absolute INCOMPETENCE. They refused to split the check so we put everything on one credit card. The waiter handed me the POS machine and the highest preset tip amount was already selected, 25%. NO!!! We left 12% and that was generous enough. I spent 2 decades working in food and beverage and this place is bougie as all hell!! Unless you enjoy being treated like crap, eat somewhere else. I brought my kids here for a birthday dinner. We were expecting a delicious birthday meal, but unfortunately we were served up a big DISAPPOINTMENT. We had a reservation made well in advance but we were made to wait 25 minutes as apparently there was no one to bus the tables. The food fell flat. My midwestern kids and I aren't exactly gourmets but even we could tell that the sushi we ordered was flat and tasteless. We really enjoyed our experience at TigerLily! We arrived around 4pm to have a drink at Mai Tiki before our reservation at 5pm. The bartender said Mai Tiki was technically closed for a private event but he offered to make us a quick drink, which was really nice of him! Then we went to the actual restaurant and they were able to seat us early. The hostess and waitress were very kind and helpful. Food came out super quick, some dishes did lack salt but overall we enjoyed our meal. We got street corn, crab rangoon mozzarella sticks, uni sashimi, steak hibachi, a mushroom sandwich + fries, and a sushi roll. We also ordered 2 desserts but we didn't like the crème brûlée. The food was very good. I love the udon nice and creamy with a lot of shrimp. We also had sake which complemented all the appetizers as well as the main course. The service was at the bar, which I don't mind at all . Our bartender was very attentive, and it was very fun to sit at the bar and watch the people come and go. We visited TigerLily for a second time (about a year in between visits), and it was still wonderful! We made our reservations at the last minute so the only reservation type available was at the sushi bar, but I actually loved dining there. It was cool to see the sushi being made right in front of us, and really added to the ambiance. We tried the egg drop soup which was phenomenal. Two items that were a repeated order from our last visit were the Chicken tsukune bao buns, and the Una-Kyu roll. This time we also tried the TigerLily roll, and the sake nigiri, which was sooooo good. Overall, very happy with this visit! read more

The decor is very modern/chic, maybe a bit generic outside of the mural on one wall if we're being honest, but good enough. That said, the food, drinks, and service were great. My wife and I shared the Japanese street corn, Negima skewers, Bao buns, and 2 sushi rolls, and everything was fantastic. I can't remember which cocktails we had, but those were great too. This is my second time dining at Tigerlily. It is a super fun and modern place to enjoy sushi along with several Asian inspired warm dishes. Despite there being some slight changes in menu since their opening, I'm still impressed with their quality and variety of sushi offerings. My husband and I shared the chicken lettuce wraps to start. Super flavorful and plenty for 2 people to have 3 lettuce wraps. Then we went into a parade of sushi including rolls and nigiri. Needless to say, we got full quickly. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and creative. I especially loved the Shikotsu roll and the Toro to Caviar Nigiri. I also really appreciate that they don't drown their sushi rolls in mayo based sauces. While it was cool to have a front row seat to the sushi chefs, the pace felt a little slow. It too a while to get sushi after our apps and my chefs nigiri came out last when I was expecting it to come out earlier. read more

I had my friend enjoy the bun it sat on (try to be as low carb as I can) and really loved it. Had 3 sushi rolls that we really enjoyed. I wouldn't say it's dry as some other reviews suggested. It is very pricey and about on the unreasonably priced side so I wouldn't come here hungry. Tasted good, we ate them all with soy sauce. Out of the 3 rolls, I recommend the TigerLily! Additional rice bowl (sorry blanking on the name) -- this was probably the least flavorful dish. Didn't really taste like fried rice. The protein in it was great but otherwise not worth it. So why is this a 4/5 star? The service. So slow! We waited a good 20+ minutes for the waitress to come and get our drink order. Over half an hour for her to bring the water to the table after requesting it. Everything we asked for would take way too long, almost like she'd forget about it. Soy sauce? Manager came to asked how was everything and I address it all to her but didn't seem like she cared. Yvonne was one of the best servers I've ever had in my LIFE. She is the ideal server and I hope that all other employees model her same awesomeness. She went through the menu quickly, explaining she didn't want to take up too much of our time but was very willing to slow down if needed, and answered any questions we had. Very knowledgeable about the menu, which is helpful and I'm grateful! Her recommendations were spot on! Drinks were beautiful, well made, good pours and delicious! Overpriced for mid sushi. HEAVY on rice instead of up scale thin rice design for more fish and flavor, they attempt to come off as upscale but the food is more small hole in the wall japan. I would say they are a Japanese hibachi instead of sushi bar. They aim more towards fried and meals than sushi. For $10 a piece nigiri they also don't include the usual complimentary end tail small piece of fish. Also happy hour is overpriced at $10 a beer for the tiny 12 ounce bottle. No tall bottles. Hand rolls are skimped. The downfall is also no ponzu sauce and offered non spicy labeled spicy chili oil. You better off in downtown Detroit. The cocktail drinks were good. read more

TigerLily has a very chic atmosphere, really fun for girls night or date night. The service was really good, although they were only moderately busy on a Tuesday night. You can park in the garage behind the restaurant and enter through the back. Most of the dishes are small plates. I really liked that they have a mocktail menu for people who don't drink. I ordered the hikoma- coconut milk, lemon, mint and fruit and it was creamy, tart and fresh tasting. I loved it. The miso soup had homemade tofu formed at the bottom of the bowl, you have to break it up with your spoon. It is silkier and smoother than "regular" tofu. The broth was too salty but the mushrooms and seaweed were good. My favorite dishes were the chicken tare bao buns and the pork belly (buta bara) skewer. The chicken was ground and I liked the sweet tare glaze on top and the buns were really pillowy. The pork belly was really tender with just the right amount of fat and great flavor. The chicken thigh was just ok for me but my boyfriend enjoyed it. read more
