The service was perfect, very professional staff. The ambiance was warm and comfortable The food and menu have changed. They're riding the hibachi wave. The miso soup was bland and lukewarm. Previously you'd mix the soup at the table. I miss that. The sushi was decent. I didn't like my original drink and they made me something original. I might come back and try again to see if they have their mojo back.
Beautiful place with a great selection of food and beverages. Absolutely loved the cocktails my friend and I got, and the Chicken Katsu Sando we got was a GREAT size for the price (it's definitely shareable). Host was very nice and server was friendly! Would definitely be back.
tl;dr chicken katsu sando was fantastic, would come back to try the other sandwiches. Classic rolls were also solid, but given the limited number of classic rolls, would probably not return for sushi alone. Service (4.75/5): Our main server was very friendly and gave us a good overview of the menu as it was our first time. They were great and attentive. We were also served by a second server who dropped off our food and disappeared so quickly that we waited a while before they walked by again. When we finally got the chance to ask for soy sauce and sauce dishes, they grabbed the soy sauce from a nearby table and left before we could even get to asking for the sauce dishes. Nothing terrible, but we did feel a little awkward. Food (4/5): Sushi was both good and not good. Of the 3 rolls we ordered, the salmon avocado and tuna avocado were solid; the proportion of fish to rice was great and the fish quality was above average from your typical sushi restaurant. However, the Tigerlily was quite disappointing, especially at $22 for the roll. The roll was torched a bit too long, cooking the salmon almost all the way, but my main gripe was a mysterious creamy sauce that was drizzled on top. The roll ended up being way too heavy and the sauce overpowered the salmon and the little bit of ikura that was sprinkled on top. On the other hand, the chicken katsu sando was really excellent. Chicken was juicy, breading was light and crispy, and the fries were well-seasoned. My only suggestion for the kitchen is to slice the sandwich vertically instead of horizontally; you can see that the bread on half of the sandwich was mostly crust/air instead of the actual bread part. Ambiance (4/5): It's got an upscale, modern feel to it that would probably make a nice environment for a date night or catching up with friends over happy hour. I was there on a Tuesday evening, so it wasn't crowded. There was music playing but it wasn't too loud, so it was easy to have a conversation.
TigerLily claims to get daily overnight shipments of fish from Japan. Not sure if it's true but we really enjoyed our meals here! We started with the pork bao buns and the crab rangoon cheese sticks. The cheese sticks were actually pretty good! Same with the buns. The sushi roll was absolutely phenomenal. We also tried the hibachi which was good, but I would definitely order more sushi next time. Our server was also great and everything he suggested was very much enjoyed!
The establishment, service and food was amazing!! The decor was very inviting, even the bathroom was beautiful . The bartender was so friendly and patient. The flavors of each dish was delicious. I will be heading back asap! Lobster sandwich, and lobster are the dishes I tried.
TigerLily offers an extensive menu, featuring some excellent food. The service is friendly and professional, and the interior is spacious. The layout includes three bars: the main bar, the sushi bar, and the tiki bar. The crab rangoon cheese katsu sticks were as good as they sound. I was worried there wouldn't be much crab, but that wasn't the case. The lobster tail robata was easy to peel, and complemented well by its accompaniments. The pork belly robata was tender, while the tare added some sweetness. Of the two, I preferred the pork belly. I've had four of the six bao buns. The chicken had a char flavor, and the steak sauce added some welcome moisture. The filet was tender, with a bold but not overbearing garlic aioli. The pork belly was also tender, glazed with a sweet honey, and balanced by some savory pickles. The sausage had a nice snap, and the Fresno peppers gave it a bit of a kick. The filet and pork belly were my two favorites. The sushi is some of the best I've had locally. The shikotsu roll (wagyu and bone marrow) was incredibly rich and buttery. $36 may seem steep, but it's the most memorable sushi roll I've ever had. The toro (fatty tuna) to caviar was also very impressive, and had soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Here's how I rank the nigiri I've tried: 1. Tamago (omelette) 2. Madai (sea bream) 3. Aji (horse mackerel) 4. Shima Aji (striped jack) 5. Ikura (salmon roe) 6. Uni (sea urchin) Lastly, for dessert, I've had the key lime pie. It was remarkably fluffy and honestly one of the best slices I've had. Simply put, TigerLily blew me away. I can confidently say it's one of my favorite restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. I'll be back soon to try the brunch, noodle, and sandwich options.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place is amazing!!!!!!! I've been wanting to come here for a few years and it was definitely worth the wait. I can see why this place is always busy. Reservations recommended. The Fried Brussels are delicious! The crab Rangoon cheese katsu sticks are really cool and interesting. Like thick mozzarella sticks but with crab Rangoon instead of mozzarella. The Shikotsu Roll is fantastic!!!!!!!! Mind blowing good! Wagyu, butter and miso bone marrow, avocado, shallots, garlic and more. The bone marrow is melted on top of the roll. The Sake Trio roll is really crunchy from the salmon skin and pikachu crunch. I also love the Tigerlily roll with salmon, cucumber, tempura shrimp, and eel sauce. Excellent, friendly, and attentive service. Cool, sleek, modern decor. Amazing experience! Can't wait to come back and try more things!
Went for brunch and had the honey butter pancakes, they definitely lived up to the hype! Absolutely delicious. The drinks were strong, the service was friendly and attentive, and the overall experience was great.
This is a great space! Light and airy, very comfortable for a group, or an intimate dinner. A waiter was very patient and very nice, he helped us with their selections, and didn't steer us wrong. We definitely enjoyed the spicy dragon roll, however the double trouble was a little rich. I don't necessarily know if I like the heavy sauce that was over the roll. The sriracha and the garlic both tasted good, it was just overpowering.
The thing that strikes me the most about this restaurant is the quality of the ingredients they used. They used bluefin tuna extensively along with real crab. It's little changes like that that elevate the dish beyond other regular sushi offerings. It was so appreciated! We ordered the spicy tuna roll. It had the excellent tuna and then they put yum sauce on it. That was odd because it masked the beautiful taste of the bluefin tuna, and that made it a miss for me. If you order, do yourself a favor and tell them no sauce. The dragon roll had real snow crab inside and eel and avocado on top. This also had a crunchy topping that I would tell them to hold if I did it again. It didn't really add anything to the dish and it obscurred the taste of the tender eel a bit. Not until I broke open a piece to isolate the snow crab could I truly appreciate the delicate flavor. It got a little lost inside the vibrant roll. The red dragon roll was well balanced and exactly what I was expecting. The bluefin tuna could easily shine on top of this roll. And it did. It was rich and succulent. The tigerlilly roll was lovely and topped with salmon and roe. It says on the menu it was torched. Ours was not. It was perfect the way we got it though, so I wouldn't change anything. I also ordered eel sashimi and the avocado, asparagus and cucumber roll for something refreshing. We all shared the rolls as we had drinks at the bar. Our bartender was attentive, friendly, and brought the sushi along with serving us our drinks. The lychee martini was a hit. What an interesting and slightly tart flavor! It was a light-hearted and fun time and I would go back in a heartbeat .
First timer but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The restaurant is bright, clean, and vibrant inside. Our server was Israel and he was so patient and friendly and Nate (I believe) brought my friend fruit since she couldn't share my salad with me. We started with the Wasabi Caesar which was one of the best Caesar salads I've had. So fresh! I was craving sushi though! I started with the Tigerlily roll and Israel said it was a good choice, and it really was! Delicious! I really enjoyed it. My friend got the Shrimp Tempura roll and liked it a lot, so we got one more to share! The service was outstanding, the food was amazing, and the drinks were good too! Can't wait to return!
Strictly a brunch review! First time checking out brunch here and feels like the restaurant is still figuring some things out. While my group came here on a day where the kitchen was short a cook, this could have impacted the food. I ordered the Breakfast Platter with spam and fried rice - overall it was just okay. The fried rice came out and was not remotely hot and the spam was a bit burnt as you can see. The toast did not come with anything to put on it either which I thought was unusual there wasn't even jam to offer. As far as a drink, I ordered the bloody Maria... which will have you on your butt fair warning, but tasty. Our server was great and was upfront about the kitchen staffing and warned us that our food would not come out all at the same time (not a big deal for us). Hoping my experience was just a one time thing and my next visit back will be improved!
We were here for the brunch with a party of 4 and tried a lot of the menu. Everything was good, including the famous pancakes. The espresso martini was refined and delicious. Our server was so friendly and advised us wisely on the menu.
This restaurant has a fun modern atmosphere. Great service from the host, wait staff down to the runners that bring out your dishes and clean up the tables. Everyone is invested in providing a good experience. I really enjoyed the miso soup because it was full of mushrooms, seaweed, tofu unlike the salty clear broth you get in most places. My udon noodle dish was good but a little too salty and saucy for my taste buds. I would probably stick with sushi next time. Save room for dessert because their cheesecake is absolutely amazing! read more

What an amazing restaurant new to the Ferndale scene. We stopped in a few months ago and were so impressed! We ended up sitting at the sushi bar so we could watch all the incredible food coming out. We took many suggestions from our server who encouraged a few courses to sample multiple things on the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and the food was fantastic. There are so many type of sushi rolls, make sure to bring your appetite. Of course, don't forget the cocktails and sake! This is such a beautiful space for a night out on the town with top notch service. read more
Buckle in for this buzzing hotspot review and enjoy the eye candy photos: Came here on a weekday evening and it was surprisingly busy but we were still seated right away without reservations. Drinks: 10/10 -- I had a mock tail and my friend had an alcoholic beverage. We both really enjoyed it and I'd definitely recommend splurging on it. Flavor and presentation is just incredible. Pricey but good. Food: Appetizer was delicious and a pretty hot pick too as it's a repeat photo on help. The chicken was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. I had my friend enjoy the bun it sat on (try to be as low carb as I can) and really loved it. Had 3 sushi rolls that we really enjoyed. I wouldn't say it's dry as some other reviews suggested. It is very pricey and about on the unreasonably priced side so I wouldn't come here hungry. Tasted good, we ate them all with soy sauce. Out of the 3 rolls, I recommend the TigerLily! Additional rice bowl (sorry blanking on the name) -- this was probably the least flavorful dish. Didn't really taste like fried rice. The protein in it was great but otherwise not worth it. So why is this a 4/5 star? The service. So slow! We waited a good 20+ minutes for the waitress to come and get our drink order. Over half an hour for her to bring the water to the table after requesting it. Everything we asked for would take way too long, almost like she'd forget about it. Soy sauce? Took forever to bring to table as well. read more

I like trying new places so sometimes, even if I have a good experience, I only try a place once and then move on to another new adventure. However, I already want to go back to TigerLily! Yvonne was one of the best servers I've ever had in my LIFE. She is the ideal server and I hope that all other employees model her same awesomeness. She went through the menu quickly, explaining she didn't want to take up too much of our time but was very willing to slow down if needed, and answered any questions we had. Very knowledgeable about the menu, which is helpful and I'm grateful! Her recommendations were spot on! Drinks were beautiful, well made, good pours and delicious! Every single thing I ate was amazing and I would order again. That was like 6 things off the menu (I shared with others) and I was so impressed that I enjoyed every single one so much! *it says all my pictures posted but when I click my own review I only see 3. I took a lot of food/drink pics! The atmosphere was awesome, the staff and guests were all on the same level of fun! The bathroom had such a fun vibe and a silly button installed in each stall to push if you needed a distracting noise. I am already planning my next outing here, but I know it would be creepy to call and ask if Yvonne is working that day... read more

TigerLily has a very chic atmosphere, really fun for girls night or date night. The service was really good, although they were only moderately busy on a Tuesday night. You can park in the garage behind the restaurant and enter through the back. Most of the dishes are small plates. I really liked that they have a mocktail menu for people who don't drink. I ordered the hikoma- coconut milk, lemon, mint and fruit and it was creamy, tart and fresh tasting. I loved it. The miso soup had homemade tofu formed at the bottom of the bowl, you have to break it up with your spoon. It is silkier and smoother than "regular" tofu. The broth was too salty but the mushrooms and seaweed were good. My favorite dishes were the chicken tare bao buns and the pork belly (buta bara) skewer. The chicken was ground and I liked the sweet tare glaze on top and the buns were really pillowy. The pork belly was really tender with just the right amount of fat and great flavor. The chicken thigh was just ok for me but my boyfriend enjoyed it. read more

I don't know about this place. It is very expensive and you are just paying for service and atmosphere. I think if you want good Japanese food just go to Novi or Troy, this ain't it. Yes they use good ingredients but the way they utilize it ruins the fish. Sushi has some sort of vegetable/leave in it, but the green is stronger than the fish and rice so I couldn't even taste the fish and sushi rice. I didn't drink alcohol and i wasn't sick so I am sure I couldn't taste any fish or rice. The only thing I like is the $15 nigiri, which has no veggies in it I think If you just want to chill and get some drinks and eat some appetizers then sure. It does has cool decor and interior design. read more

No seats inside, despite having a reservation. Shouldn't that be a basic question when you take a reservation, how did we know we would be relegated to sit outside when there are over 10+ tables inside empty. Nothing like smelling the smokers as they walk by on their patio. Expect to wait an hour or more for a seat on their patio. A group of 4 ahead of us at the hostess table came in without reservations and they were seated about an hour after us. Heather waited on us, she's nice enough. $4 charge for a carafe of mineral water. $2 for a small ramekin of the chili oil. I don't mind paying, but I like to be informed before finding it on my bill is all. Not as many food items to order than I had thought, small menu. More cocktail items than food for sure. Ordered aspara-goma, tomato salad, green beans, Shishito peppers, Shitake and chicken thigh, nami, Kani and a baby shitake rolls. May be a lot of food. The tomato salad was good, the grilled peaches at the daikon are yummy. The shitake and Shishito peppers were nicely grilled. The asparagus and the sesame seed hollandaise sauce. The karai tuna came out instead of our kani roll, a tad bit of a mix up. The nami roll looks good, then again sweet potato is yummy in a roll. It's tastes pretty good as well. The tempera shitake is not my favorite, too heavily breaded from the tempura batter for me. The kani roll is good, although it looks rather sloppy. The lemon aioli is good with it. The chili aioli is okay, it at least makes the rolls a tad more palatable and gives it life. read more

Thanks for your detailed feedback. Looking forward to our next…
I went to dinner at TigerLily in Ferndale. It's been open a little less than a month and it was a great experience. The servers that waited on us were so nice and knowledgeable. The food and sake was delicious. We got to sit at the sushi bar, so it was really fun watching the Sushi Chefs make the rolls. TigerLily has been added to my list of go-to's! I think the pork belly was my absolute favorite appetizer followed by the shrimp, and then the green beans coming in third. I enjoyed both rolls. The Shikotsu roll was the most unique and innovative roll I've tasted in a really long time. What makes it unique is the A5 wagyu and the bone marrow butter! Pro tip: Make sure you have a reservation! #japanese #japanesefood #sake #sushi #metrodetroit #ferndale #resturantreview read more

Pleased to find this restaurant, what a lovely place. We came earlier than our reservation and that was not a problem for them to seat us early. Top-notch service and food. Very interesting indoor decor. I wish our table has more light sources. Not sure why the middle section was pretty dark. The waitress did an excellent job on explain the menu. We got the mocktail, nina tucker, an interesting mix of flavors of tropical fruits. The Shikotsu was a great experience to watch how they pour the hot butter on the sushi, and very tasty too with layers of different flavors and textures mixed. The Katsucurry has great pork, average curry. The yuzu cheesecake was such a delight. A decent cheesecake with a Japanese twist on it. Overall we enjoyed this place a lot. read more

We chose Tigerlily for a special birthday celebration because of a fantastic, past experience and, once again, it did not disappoint! Our server, Chrissy, was a huge part of our excellent experience. She is so personable, knowledgeable and skilled at what she does. We were thrilled to see she would be helping us again. The food was just as good as we remembered, as well. Our absolute favorites were the gyoza, katsucurry and yaki meshi with chili oil and fried tofu. When you go into a situation with such high expectations, it can sometimes be a letdown. I was afraid this might be the case. Luckily, I had nothing to worry about. Tigerlily & Chrissy pulled it off again! An fabulous dinner all around! read more

Service was outstanding our waitress was very attentive and made us feel more than welcome. She also help with some decisions on dishes. When I say they did it right they did! I loved everything from the ambiance and my meal the appetizer street corn wasn't what I expected like typical Mexican corn but it's not that genre of food. I give them a 5 stars 's! read more
As someone who is new to the area, I was excited to check out TigerLily at a co-worker's recommendation. Let me say, the appetizers and small plates were the stars of the show. The chicken bao and ebi chiri were phenomenal and I highly recommend. So savory and delicious! The sushi rolls were also very tasty, as was the cheesecake that we had at the end. The only con is that our last roll took an extra 30 min to come out. Almost all of our food came out at a steady pace, but it took a while for the last one. We kept inquiring about where our food was, and it eventually did, but it did damper the mood a bit. However, the assistant manager did come over to apologize and provided a complimentary dessert. Overall, I'm excited to go back again (for more ebi chiri!). read more

I walked in shortly after opening. The smiles from staff never ended. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be at work. I was even given my choice of seats. I started off with a cocktail, called the death note, and if you enjoy whiskey cocktails, I highly recommend this beverage as per the menu I saw Yaki Udon. This is something that I don't see nearly often enough. And so I ordered it with the harami (beef). It exceed my expectations. The perfect spice and was amazingly satisfying and filling. The only regret is not having room to try some sushi. I suppose that means I will just need to return (multiple times) to sample such amazing cuisine. Hats off to every one at TigerLily and a special call out to Noemi for such great service and just being amazing. And I am glad she liked my nails. read more

A friend and I tried this for dinner on a Wednesday and had such a wonderful meal! Modern, clean design with lots of mirrors to make it look bigger. Our server, Caitlin, gave us a quick and comprehensive rundown of the menu and made a couple of recommendations that we were very happy with. I had a Ryu, which was blowtorched at the table- delicious! We ordered the Beef Tataki, Japanese Street Corn, Tomato Salad, Chicken and Shitake Skewers, and a Nami Roll. We shared all of the dishes and there were just a few pieces of corn left to take home. My favorite bite was the Tomato Salad with grilled peaches, crisp radishes and yuzu. read more

First time coming here the food and service was great. Month later coming back for our anniversary dinner. The food was horrible. Manager came to asked how was everything and I address it all to her but didn't seem like she cared. Why even bother to ask me how it was and when it's addressed to you, you don't even bother to make anything right??? I raved about this place to so many people and now I can't anymore. I was happy that I found a go to place but turns out the total opposite. The pork belly was super dry, street corn had barely any sauce. The two orders of salmon egg was so little and the worst plate was the udon Mushroom, Zero flavor. read more

This is a cute space. The ambience is super cute and definitely a nice spot to take pictures. The bathrooms are super colorful andI definitely a recommendation to check it out if you do find yourself at the restaurant. I know a weird recommendation but they are cool! Other than that I'm not sure if it was an off day. The sushi fell apart as soon as I touched it as you can see in my picture. Which means the rice wasn't wrapped properly and tight. I was excited to try the chicken bao but i would not get it again. The drinks weren't great. My friend didn't want to finish his I drank mine but it wasn't great. It is a nice clean space so that is a a plus. It's in a nice location. The restaurant is definitely pretty but as far as food quality this wasn't it in my Opinion. read more

Very cool atmosphere. Service was very strange and server gave us many confusing instructions about what we could and couldn't do in a ridiculously condescending voice. Took our appetizer order and drink order and the left our table of 4 with one menu because she did want us to spill anything on the other menus. Said something about believing in recycling and sustainability or something. What ???Food was fantastic. read more

Ordered the tempura vegetable roll, shrimp Robata skewer, pork belly bao bun, and matcha tiramisu. Restaurant setting was very cute. The tempura vegetable roll was standard nothing stood out except the lime ranch drizzle 6.5/10. The shrimp skewer was a simple cooked shrimp with a lime ranch sauce drizzle and a slice of lemon 7/10. The pork belly bao bun was standard both the pork belly and bao didn't stand out but still a solid dish 7/10. The matcha tiramisu was delicious. The plate was half powdered with matcha and the other side with crushed pistachio and toffee. The dessert was delicious 10/10 but unfortunately looks like the serving has been cut down more than half the serving size it was 6 months ago. Service was bad. The waitress decided to make a comment asking if that was all we were getting for the night after seeing us start with only one appetizer. She also forgot to serve the drink I ordered. I am surprised about service but overall a pretty restaurant. read more
TigerLily is officially one of my favorite restaurants! My friend and I made reservations for a Friday night and were running a but late, but the hostess was so nice and accommodating. The waiter was really friendly and constantly checked on us. 5 star service! I got the RYU drink and my friend got the lychee seltzer. If you like really sweet drinks, you'll like RYU. My friend and I loved the seltzer. The mocktails sounded really good too! We ordered the Ebi chiri and it was SO GOOD!! Just be aware that it's pretty spicy. We also got the Negima and Buta Bara skewers. Both were really good and had a lot of flavor, make sure to squeeze the lemon on the chicken! We also got the tigerlily and mangekyou rolls. Everything was so filling. The tigerlily roll was my favorite, I really liked how all the flavors came together. The mangekyou was also really good and I loved the presentation, but the tigerlily was just lighter. I plan on trying the bone marrow roll next time! For dessert we ordered the Okinawa cheesecake and it was SOOO GOOD!!! Even if you're full, trust me, you'll want to make room for it. I also really loved the decor and overall ambiance of the restaurant. It was really cute and looked so nice. I can't wait to be back and recommended this place to all my friends! Also, if you're an anime fan, you'll love this place! read more

I really liked their sushi selection, everything was very fresh and had a good balance between the simple rolls and the more complex rolls. I tried the Salmon avocado, Karai tuna, and Tiger lily roll. I also tried the shrimp tempura from their appetizer and the sauce was tasty but the batter was a bit thick. I also really enjoyed the ginger Paloma, it had a nice kick of spiciness. read more
