Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed by my experience at Tiger Sugar. I didn't understand the kiosk menu, and experienced very little human engagement as I tried to figure out what I wanted to order. The staff were not helpful at all - I'm not sure if it was a language barrier, or just plain indifference. It was kind of a bummer. I got out of line and just watched as others made their orders, which was a great idea because there appears to be so many wonderful drinks. There are coffee and tea-based drinks, and for some reason I couldn't determine one from the other. The descriptions and titles feel a little misleading. Thankfully, I ended up with something that resembled a brown sugar milk tea and it was delicious! It was a little on the weak side for my liking, but it was milky and sugary and had some delicious boba as a treat. Additionally, it's quiet and even when empty you're still required to use the kiosk to order where some sticky notes are provided to guide you but that's all. Meanwhile there are two women behind a caged in area, likely going with the theme, and they are just silently chatting to one another. No conversation with us whatsoever and then once the drinks were done they quietly said "drinks ready" and gestured then went back to talking. It feels kind of awkward and impersonal. The biggest surprise were the tapioca balls. Unlike the thick, chewy, gag-causing tapioca balls I've had in the past, these were melt in your mouth, no endless chewing required! Very pleasant surprise! The malt chocolate flavor was fabulous, and yes sweet. I only drank half not wanting to consume an entire day's worth of calories in one drink! Especially a non-alcoholic one. Great to see this international chain open an outpost in the Portland Metro area... It's wonderful to see the breadth of bubble tea options and Tiger Sugar offers distinction from many of its competition. Their signature drink consists of fresh milk with brown sugar boba and cream mousse. The "tiger stripes" from their syrups add a cool visual component to the presentation. Having sampled this drink overseas and elsewhere in the US, the local quality is pretty good but not mind-blowing. The boba doesn't quite have a strong maltiness that comes with intense brown sugar caramelization. It's not as sweet as I've had elsewhere, so there's less balance with the milk as I've experienced at their other locations. That's not to say that it's not good or enjoyable... it's both. I just have higher expectations on quality consistency as it's a global franchise. Nonetheless, I would recommend giving them a try and sampling their other options as well. Didn't make it to grand opening right around Lunar New Year 2022 (year of tiger) but this place still poppin! I like how there is a menu for regular teas and a menu for the milk teas. There are just enough options that isn't too difficulty to make up your mind and their choices are basic yet many peoples favorites. Personal preference for sweetness and ice level cannot be adjusted for the milk tea and I think that makes it even that much more simple! I got their XL golden oolong tea with back sugar boba and if you're a fellow oolong tea lover, then you will LOVE this, at least I fell in love with the aroma and the taste. The oolong tea is LEGIT high quality! We also got a few boba teas with pudding, coffee jelly and the malt milk tea. I tried the pudding one and as I mentioned the ice and sweetness level cannot be adjusted, however it came out perfect. They do recommend for their drinks shake 15 times to really blend it all up with ice and the syrup and to make the boba pearls bouncy and chewy, and you'll love how perfect these boba pearls come out!! Price wise it's just a tad slight pricey and still competitive with other boba places around town. This is a specialty place for their black sugar boba so I think it is the go-to spot for their black sugar boba lovers. Their signature brown sugar boba with jelly (no adjustment was made as I wanted to taste how the "original" level would be) and oolong tea with cheese mousse (zero sugar and light ice). BROWN SUGAR BOBA + PEARL + JELLY WITH CREAM MOUSSE - very tasty. It has a nice dark caramel with coffee like taste to it. The jelly was delicious. The pearls was a mixture of regular and mini size tapioca. It was on a softer side than I would have liked, but overall splendid drink. I'm not sure if you can adjust the sugar level on the brown sugar drinks as it consist brown sugar after all. I didn't think it was overly sweet, though I wouldn't mind slightly lessen the sweetness to my tasting. GOLDEN OOLONG TEA WITH CHEESE MOUSSE - with zero sugar. The drink had a slight bitterness as expected with no sugar added. However the cheese mousse did added a slight sweetness to it. Overall excellent drinks and great customer service. I've been here a couple times and really like the milk teas here! They're pretty unique and the brown sugar flavored milk teas are very tasty. I got the Strawberry mochi, sago & mango jelly with cream mousse ($9.25) with 50% ice, 50% sweet (半糖). Ice, ice, baby, no go, no go. There are places that gladly fill to the brim when "no ice" is requested free of charge. The "citrus" joint and "martial arts" joint come to mind. Then there are places that literally decrease the volume of product that covers the ratio of ice originally intended. Then there's places like this who decide to charge $1 to $1.50 for a no ice order. Rendering the mango sago specialty a whopping $9.50. I get it, fresh ingredients, certain sugar mixtures imported, the lease and labor, not to mention more product per order. But let's not forget drink margins are lucrative universally... otherwise there wouldn't be so many options across town! I like their menu and their drinks are great! Another boba shop in Beaverton! Even though I don't love the brown sugar boba trend, I think this place overall did a pretty good job - from speed of service to flavor of the drink, I was pretty impressed. When we went, there was a grand opening event, and even thought the event page said 12:30 opening, by the time we got there around 11:45, there was already a line and they were already serving drinks. One of the biggest issues that a lot of new businesses face is just the efficiency of the orders getting out, but this place was functioning as if it had been open for a long time. Orders as many as four drinks at a time were being put out about every 2-3 min, and even though there weren't that many staff - about 5, the line was moving very very quickly. The Signature drink that I got (with Lactaid milk option!) actually did not cost any more to get the milk sub (BIG PLUS), and the overall taste and "Q"ness of the boba was pretty spot on. One complaint was that the bigger boba could have been just slightly more chewy, but that is just me being slightly picky. There is no sugar level adjustment, but I would say that as someone who doesn't love super sweet drinks that it was fine! The brown sugar flavor was very rich and well coated the cup. Additionally, the boba itself had a good flavor (I think they soak it in some syrup too?), and although I didn't love the combination of small and big boba (I prefer the bigger ones), they overall helped the drink and gave it that nice boba texture! As if there isn't enough boba franchises in the Portland metro area, this one just opened up in Beaverton and I actually can say that it does stand out to be one of my favorites. Why? Because their signature Brown Sugar Boba Milk & Pearl with Crean Mousse reminds me of the boba ice cream bars that you find at the Asian markets. The boba is super soft and chewy which isn't always the case, but they got this part down. On their website, it says the brown sugar and cream creates a unique Tiger striped affect, which I didn't even think was the reason behind their name, but it makes sense!
