I got my usual taro tea latte, which is still my favorite. Creamy, good tea flavor, and you can ask for zero Sugar . and just really easy to drink. Glad Beaverton has one of these. Located next to a branch of Powell Books, ChiCha San Chen is a great stop to get milk tea before browsing. When we visited on a Saturday afternoon, the place was buzzing, with all tables taken, a number of people waiting for drinks, but no line to order (note: this location is a larger one and it's not nearly as busy as the one I visit most often up in Bellevue). They are busy but very efficient, pumping out drinks from four different specialized teaspresso spouts. We opted to only get one drink this visit since it was getting a little too late in the day for additional caffeine. Dong Ding Oolong w/ Cream, Perfect Sugar, Less Ice w/ Boba ($7.50) - This tea has strong, deep earthy flavors from the heavily oxidized tea leaves. It otherwise has an extremely creamy mouthfeel, very pleasant to sip on slowly. Less ice actually might not be enough - the ice melts before completely cooling the drink down. It's cool enough, but not ice-cold. Perfect sweetness is around 50% sweet compared to other shops, which is good for me. It's a good soft pleasant sweetness, not harsh in any way at all. The boba is pretty consistent with other locations (some are a little firmer, some a little softer, but the spread isn't very large with the worst rating I've given a 4, best a 5, and the typical being 4.5). The pearls are large and chewy with great bounce, albeit a little too firm for my tastes. It's probably partially due to not being marinated in as strong of a sweetener as top tier boba. Still very good. Milk Tea Rating: 5/5 Boba Rating: 4.5/5 Overall this Chicha San Chen is very consistent with other locations. It's a premium priced boba shop, but I think the extra money spent is worth the quality jump. Bathrooms - They have a bathroom code displayed at the counter but I couldn't find one in store. I was surprised when I looked up "boba shops" in Portland to not only find a ChiCha, but a ChiCha without a huge crowd or line to wait in! I'm a Bay Area transplant and let me tell you....I dared not to go to the ChiCha in Cupertino because I valued my time and sanity. So ChiCha San Chen in Beaverton was my very first time there! And it definitely lives up to the hype. VERY tea forward drinks, the entire place smells deliciously fragrant with a pleasant aroma. Employees are super nice and usually offer a sample of a fruit tea or milk tea. My default is the Dong Ding Oolong Tea Latte with boba at perfect sweetness and no ice. The boba is always soft, sweet, and chewy - just perfect. I'm also a huge fan of the High Mountain Pouchong Tea with Mango on a warmer day! Why not 5 stars? I REALLYYY wish they had a loyalty program, and I wish their drinks were larger-sized. At nearly $7 a cup, I'd appreciate either of those features that some of my favorite tea shops seem to offer. Very high-quality feel to this boba place. They spend a lot of time making each drink and making sure it's perfect. I ordered the bubble milk tea which was delicious but despite getting 100% sweetness it's not very sweet and doesn't have strong flavor, so if you're more into a mild tea flavor this is for you. There is a tablet to order off of and someone to take your order. There are display tvs with the menu and a booklet at the counter. I asked the employee what she recommend. The menu includes green and black teas with a separate taro section and customizable options. I usually order the Taro Milk Tea (5 stars) with a black tea base. It includes taro paste that captures its true flavor rather than the sweeter and more purple versions elsewhere. The texture of the taro balls remind me of mochi. I also like the Orange High Mountain Pouchong Tea (5 stars) with boba. This combination highlighted the orange flavor more than the subtle green tea flavor. The Mango Green Tea (4 stars) with boba had a nice floral flavor. My husband's go to order is the Cassia Black Tea (4 stars) with honey and boba. Okay so I'm NOT crazy about Boba. In fact I really really hate it. I don't like the slimy ball lol. It's a texture thing for sure. But tea yes I do really like tea. I don't find a need to sweeten it or add milk to it. THAT said this is a fad. It's a cliche thing that shall pass. It's currently cool, but it will burn out as there not being these super expensive chains popping up everywhere. I say support the SMALL local businesses that have been doing this for years. Yes it's a beautiful place. And you are paying for it in the cost of your fancy tea. Is the tea "basket" adorbs? TRES. But again add that into the cost. Two teas for $17 um NO. That's legit insane. Even coffee chains can do a tea drink better (IMO,) for less. I say if you like Boba, go have it. Give it a whirl. It is what it advertises. It's a sweet treat. So excited that this place opened up in Portland!! I've been a couple of times now, and each time was fun and met my expectations. I recommend not changing the sugar in the drinks. Normally, my preference is to have 25% sugar, which is what I did the first time I was there. The drink tasted pretty bland and unmemorable. However, with their normal amount of sugar, the quality of the tea really showed through. I appreciate that they put the 100% sugar in a place that emphasizes the best parts of the tea itself in a boba drink. I also really like how their menu is not extensive. It makes choosing a drink easier and shows that there's a little bit more thought put into each option. I don't love BBT for the sugar, but for the tea flavor (surprise, surprise) and if you love tea too, Sprint, don't walk to the near CCSC. This CCSC location just opened up not too long ago. It's spacious and clean and got decor that pays homage to its tea roots from Taiwan; even their tea extraction machines are unique to just them. Before we even ordered, we were kindly offered a (generous) sample. I ended up with their Honey Black Tea Latte and Taro Balls and man was this just perfection in a cup: perfectly sweetened tea, light on the milk, and Amazeballs chewy taro balls. I decided to give this place a try again and some of my friends haven't tried and so we went together! I ordered their green tea cream, light sweetness and regular ice. Yes, this is still a pricier place to order boba but I liked this drink a lot more than the pervious one. The green tea is not like the Japanese green tea, just keep that in mind but this flavor was stronger than my previous drink. It had a nice smooth texture and it was enjoyable! There's a Winco for affordable groceries and a New Seasons for specialty groceries at either end of the building ChiCha is in. I got the high mountain pouchong with passion fruit and bubbles (light sugar, no ice). The passion fruit was fresh shined as the main flavor with tea astringency left on the tongue. The boba were soft and chewy with a mild flavor (I prefer the stronger caramel flavor of the boba at Bobacat downtown). This particular drink was satisfying, but not something I crave. I was looking forward to finally trying this new tea place once the grand opening hype calmed down a little bit but I have to say I was not overly impressed with it. To give credit where it's due, the space is gorgeous and definitely contributed to the calm, bright, but natural feel. All the equipment looked fancy, shiny and clean, plus the staff were very professional but not overly friendly. The prices are on the higher side which is proportional to the quality of their tea. $1 extra for toppings like boba. But some of the drinks stat at $7 or $8 BASE which is a little off putting and not many non-dairy options (without adding MORE to the total cost with alternative milks...) Boba was nice and chewy though. Anyway, this spot could be a nice date or even business meeting place and I'm willing to give it another try and maybe try another drink. I've been waiting for this location to open for a long time. I decided to wait until the hype died down for a better experience, as some mentioned the quality wasn't as great as the WA location during the grand opening. After visiting many times, I'm glad everything here tastes just as good as I remember. Drinks are actually cheaper here compared to the WA location. No matter what time I went, my wait time was never longer than 5 minutes. My go-to drink is bubble milk tea (black tea) with honey or cream and konjac. I always opt for less sugar to make it healthier and to enjoy a stronger tea flavor. I also ask for less ice since the drink volume is extremely small, especially for the price. The tea is strong and concentrated--so much so that it kept me up until 3 AM one time when I had it too close to bedtime. I wish this location offered insulated bags for large orders like the WA location does. It makes a big difference when ordering in bulk, and the bags are reusable, which is a nice bonus. read more

Heard super good reviews about this place on TikTok and it was okay. The passion fruit tea was soooo sweet. Meanwhile my friend and sis got the honey milk teas and it was not sweet at all. This is currently my favorite bubble tea spot in Oregon! The quality is very consistent - I have been here many times and adamantly make the drive out from Clackamas to enjoy a beverage here. My go-to is the Bubble Milk Tea. ChiCha's boba is not too tough - very warm and a good amount of chewy. I love that all their drinks can be seen made fresh at the counter. As a plus, their drinks come with the cutest cup holder/carrier combo! This makes it pretty convenient to walk around in Washington Square afterwards (which is what I like to do haha). Their service can be quick at times, but when they're busy, it could take quite awhile (I have had relatively long wait times in the past, upwards of 1.5 hours - which for bubble tea is a long wait time). I do enjoy the bright ambiance of the space with their minimalistic design. I recommend giving this place a try - but maybe on a weekday when it's slower! read more
