This spot is pretty solid. My husband and I have been here a handful of times. I personally have to tweak my spicy miso a bit since it didn't have much spice. Here is what we order: Brussel Sprouts - these are okay. they come out crispy but the sauce is a bit overpowering 7/10 Ika Geso - my husband and I really liked these with lemon. They are crunchy and not too chewy. 10/10 Pork Gyoza - my husband's go-to, he really enjoys these. The sauce isnt your typical gyoza sauce, but it still pairs nicely with the flavor! 10/10 Baby Octopus Yakitori - we tried this once and wasnt the biggest fan of the sauces 7/10 Spicy Miso Ramen - as i stated above, this sometimes lacks flavor. We finally made the trip out to Tiger Den in Bellaire and it was worth it. First of all, this must be one of the busiest business plazas I've been to in Houston as it took a few minutes just to turn in from Bellaire Blvd due to people lined up from both directions to enter and this was just before 5:30pm but it was a Saturday. The restaurant itself was packed with a short wait but any later would've been a much longer wait. It was worth the effort though! The food and service were great and the prices reasonable, event he non-happy hour items. Getting a bottled Tsingtao for under $3 was nice. For starters we had the cucumbers in a mild chile sauce and the raw octopus which is served with seaweed crisps. My husband had the Spicy Miso soup and I had the Tonkotsu ramen and both were delicious. It's been years since we dined in Chinatown but we'll be heading that way again soon for another Tiger Den experience. read more

I have been to Tiger Den several times prior to this year. I remember the wait during peak hours. My recent visits were all during the closing time. The wait staff was very friendly and patient with me as they took orders. I particularly like to sit by the kitchen window because I get to see the actions. I came with 2 friends on 2 separate occasions . One was very talkative and one was a quiet one. The talkative one kept repeating the skewer items as he trying to decide what to order. Finally, he picked chicken with green onion. He was complaining about the dark sauce being overpowering the chicken. The quiet friend ordered chicken hearts and mushroom medley. He also ordered a miso ramen with chicken broth instead of pork. He loved them and he kept eating and not saying much. Except "mmm... I love it." I have tried Tsukemen (the one with meat gravy and ramen separately), chicken ramen and Vegan Ramen. I like all of them, except the meat gravy from Tsukemen was super spicy. When I read the description, it didn't say pepper. But later found out the spicy icons hidden from the background plus the reflection of the menu made it hard to read. I recommend the non-pork options. I avoid eating pork, especially at the ramen restaurants. Because they bring out the pork flavor so seriously. I am not fond of pork. Heard good reviews here so decided to stop by for dinner. My partner and I were quickly seated as it wasn't packed on a Thursday night. There was lots of seating even tables for large groups, booth, and single. The staff were super nice and friendly. For starters we order the lamb and mushroom Yakitori along with the spicy cucumber. The spicy cucumber were nice and refreshing yet had a nice kick to them so I definitely recommend. As for the Yakitori, I say pass on those as the lamb were too chewy and salty and mushroom were too charred to where that's all you could taste. For main, I ordered the Spicy Miso and my partner got the Garlic Black Bean. The Spicy Miso was flavorful, creamy, had a little kick to it, and the ramen noodles were chewy and perfectly cooked. It used to be one of the most popular ramen spots with long waiting lines, but it hasn't been as busy these days due to competition around town. I finally had the chance to try it recently for a Friday dinner for two, and the restaurant was not busy. The restaurant's ambiance was dark and moody. We were seated pretty quickly, and our server was nice. Our foods didn't take long to come out after we ordered either. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen, Takoyaki, and Chicken Kaarage. I think the best dish of the night was definitely the Chicken Karaage. It was tender, light, crispy. The Takoyaki was good with a great amount of octopus pieces in the filling. Tiger Den is one of my go to spots during the week since they opened years ago, and recently I went there a bunch of times to see if anything new has been added or changed. Ramen portions are still massive that I always have leftovers to take home. The noodles are more than generous amounts and al dente in texture. The chashu is charred and chopstick tender, and soft boiled eggs have that gelatinous yolk consistency. Their black garlic oil broth is strong and heavy. My go to is their spicy miso. One of my favourite snacks to get is the large grilled prawn skewers. As well as the gyoza. Both are well executed and decently priced. For dessert, I can never skip their deep fried doughnuts that are SUPER fluffy and crispy, which is paired with a cold coconut pandan custard. I could eat 10 of these in one go if I could! read more

I didn't take any pictures because it was a little underwhelming compared to other options in town. I ordered the miso ramen, beef tongue, and lamb skewer. The lamb and beef tongue were both a smidge overcooked and needed some heavy chewing to get through, but the taste was nice. The ramen was underwhelming, the noodle texture was the only redeeming factor. The chashu lacked flavor, and the broth was oddly sour. Stopped by here with my girlfriend and her best friend who's visiting us from NYC. She's originally from Dallas so we had to show her why houston is the superior Texas city. My gf and I have been here a few times and were craving something from China Town. Tiger Den is always a reliable satisfaction to that craving! We came on a busy Saturday night. There's a sign up list outside for waiting on a table. We were 4th or 5th and waited less than 15 mins before we were seated. We shared the Pork Gyoza and Ika Geso as our apps. The Pork Gyoza was so good and a perfect pairing with the spicy soy sauce. We fought over the last bite between the three of us, which I sadly lost. The Ika Geso is very similar to calamari. It's even served with lemon. We were less so a fan of this dish as the meat was pretty tender (similar to alligator if you've ever had that), but I think it's more so the nature of the dish itself than how Tiger Den prepared it. I got the Spicy Miso for my entree and the flavors were so good. My absolute favorite part are the kikurage mushrooms (black rubbery looking pieces)! Only complaint is that the "spicy" title is misleading. This soup is mild at best, but the flavors are fantastic. Will happily come here again. read more

I picked this place as a nice dinner outing both based on needs of family and on reviews. I wanted something in Chinatown and relatively affordable. While the prices were not dirt cheap here, it didn't hurt your pocket. Tiger Den is a ramen restaurant. My only experience with a ramen restaurant prior was that there were a lot more options aside from Ramen and the ramen seemed more customizable. You can add a lot of extras, but it was simply a new experience for me. The other thing being that they all had that raw egg that gets cooked in every bowl, which the previous restaurant did not. I was not expecting that due to food issues at the time, but the restaurant waiter was able to take it out. By no means am I a traditional ramen patron. However, what I ordered I thoroughly enjoyed. They do recommend you order extra ramen due to serving size. I chose an extra, corn specifically, because why not! Everything was cooked well and my ramen bowl was amazing. Did I get "authentic vibes" yes being it was in Chinatown, however I'm not a ramen eater in general unless we count maruchan. Will you enjoy the taste and how all the flavors blend together effortlessly, while still being distinctive? Yes. Best ramen of all time? I don't know. Appetizers my friends bought were also great.
