I was a little surprised at the 3 star rating for the Tigard Vision Center. Good thing I didn't let the negative reviews sway me from making appts for my husband and myself. Due to a few years of procrastination and then COVID, it had been 6 years since our last eye exams and getting new glasses, so we were long overdue -- when road signs become almost too blurry to see while driving, you KNOW it's time to stop procrastinating. I checked the website and I liked that appts were required so that customer visits could be spaced out in order to limit the number of people sitting in the waiting area at any one time. We were the only ones waiting when we arrived. The reception desk is directly in front when you enter and we were warmly greeted immediately. To save time, we had filled out all our paperwork online so we were all checked in. I am bad about remembering names but everyone we came in contact with was friendly and seemed like they truly enjoyed their job. There is a private parking lot and the inside of the building seemed fairly newly remodeled and was clean and well organized. Everyone is masked and masks are still required for anyone entering the building. The one person's name I did remember (as well as her great glasses!) was Lindsey (sp). I was pretty anxious about my exam since it had been so long since my last one and I'm not getting any younger these days. Lindsey expertly guided me through all the fun eye tests and answered all my questions. Dr Tammy Nguyen did our exams. She was so nice and professional and explained everything she was doing as she examined my eyes and had me read all those eye charts. I especially loved that for an extra fee, you can have a digital scan of your eyes rather than those annoying dilation drops. I was especially worried about age-related macular degeneration as both of my parents had it. Dr Nguyen assured me that there was no indication of it but I did have a few cataracts that were normal for someone my age, so we'll need to keep an eye on it. Except for the normal changes all our eyes go through, I was relieved to know that everything was OK and all I needed were new prescription lenses. After the exam, I was escorted to the room where you choose your new frames. Everything was organized and displayed in a way that made sense. I'm kinda overwhelmed by too many choices, like kid in a candy store with a dollar to spend. Again, I didn't get her name but the young technician who helped me was professional and patient so I put myself completely in her hands. She helped me pick out two new pair of glasses that fit and flattered my face (I chose the Ray-Ban aviator-style sunglasses, the only style I will wear). And I'm not going to lie, prices aren't as low as Costco but the selection is excellent and you do get what you pay for. My husband even found a pair of wrap-around sunglasses he hasn't been able to find anywhere else. We were both very happy with the customer service, our frame and lens choices and the experience overall. Can't wait until our glasses are ready! Tigard Vision Center is a solid 5 stars. read more

This is an attractive building with nice people. Dr. Brad is a skilled doctor with some strong opinions about ethics, which I respect. However, if you are coming here because of an insurance change, like I did, here are a few questions you should ask before your appointment: 1. How much is the exam. 2. What additional examinations will be needed for your vision needs and what is the cost of those. 3 Do they sell the lenses you use. (In my case, the ones they prescribed were 5 times more expensive than my usual ones - with a one time rebate) As it turned out, it was much more economical to pay out of pocket to go to my previous doctor who is out of network. Is it wrong to cheat on your annual eye exam? If they don't want me to cheat, then why don't they change the eye charts? I don't do it on purpose, but since I've been coming here for ten years, it is like a comfortable pair of shoes, "Well, hello, R S T L N E. Nice to see you again, S K Y R C O." For years I saw Dr. Shannon, but since she left the practice, I've been seeing Dr. Brad. The clinic is modern, clean and has all the bells and whistles (flat screen TV in the waiting room, chocolate treats on the counter, magazines from this millennium). My annual eye exams are always quick and painless - I don't even have to study. But the glaucoma test where they puff air into your eye makes me jump every time. They also push a high-tech retinal scan, called OPTOMAP, with the zealousness of a used car salesman. No thank you! They have a good selection of high quality frames in the attached store, but over the years, both my husband and I have had to return lenses or frames that weren't done right the first time. We haven't had any trouble exchanging items, but it was a hassle and waste of time going back and forth. read more

I've been going here for about 3 years. I've gotten good service and my prescriptions have been accurate. I cannot say this about every eye doctor I've seen in my life. I prefer the digital scanner rather than the dilation of my eyes and they always explain that some insurance does not cover it as an "optional expense". I'm not overly impressed by their frame selection and prices. Still, recommend. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. They will purposely steer you towards certain products giving you BS claims as to why that is your only option. I've never met an optometrist that gave so few options while pretentiously claiming these are the latest products. I found it to be inferior for my needs but they don't offer the other options. Go to the other Tigard Vision on hwy 99 instead. You'll get better service and more options. I will say the billing staff are very nice. read more

Dr. Brad saved my son's life! I have been coming to Tigard Vision for over 8 years. In 2013 my son was having horrible headaches. Since he was 13 years old, the same age I was when I started with migraines I treated his headaches like I did mine. He saw his Pediatrician and all checked out so we just thought he had inherited them. The headaches seemed to be progressively worse so I decided to have his eyes checked. Dr. Brad saw right away that his optic nerves were very swollen. He called a Neuro Opthamalogist at OHSU and had us seen the following day. The Neuro Opthamalogist ordered a MRI and it was then that a 3.5 cm tumor was on his left temporal lobe. Thanks to the quick reaction by Dr. Brad he was seen by the right specialist and had surgery within 3 days. Will always be grateful to Dr. Brad and his staff. All 3 of my boys have regular eye checks. read more

I have been a Tigard Vision patient for probably 20+ years -- and have never been disappointed. I am a patient of Dr. Brad's and he has taken such good care of my eyes. I have severe allergies (which impact my eyes more than anything else) and I've had Lasik, and I always feel like he spends extra time to make sure that not only can I see, but that my eyes are healthy too. I now get the Optimap (about $40 bucks I think) and charge it to my flex dollars. I hate to have my eyes dilated (and so do my kids), so to me, it's an excellent tool to be able to monitor the "guts" of my eye over time. I also LOVE their staff. They are professional, fun, and keep the office looking meticulous. They really know how to make our vision insurance work for us. We have double coverage, and they always clearly explain to us how to time our glasses and our visits to get the most advantage out of our plan. Last year, I waited until the last minute before my flex $$ was lost, and they worked with me to squeeze in an office visit and a new pair of glasses during the busy holiday season. I've never bought glasses anywhere else, so I can't really speak to the price, but I HAVE utilized their very good warranty and service twice to replace my BRAND NEW Fendi reading glasses that my puppy decided to use as a chew toy! So, to me, the price is well worth it. read more

I have gone to Dr. Brad Smith for the last couple years and things have been going well. However, I was diagnosed with dry eye and he had me take Xidra for this. My prescription ran out this past summer and the Dr never mentioned to me that I needed to renew this and keep taking the medication. He in fact mentioned nothing at my recent appointment regarding dry eyes so i just assumed i was doing good. I inquired about pursuing lasik and so they set me up with the pre-op appointment to have my corneas measured. After completed, I asked Dr Brad if I was good to continue with lasik and he told me that everything looked great. Fast forward to my pre-op appointment with the lasik doctor where my referral was sent to. My corneas were measured again and I am not a candidate for lasik because my corneas are too thin. I am not even a candidate for PRK which is for people with thin corneas. Too thin for that! After weeks of excitement and getting my hopes up to move forward and no longer where contacts/glasses...i am back to where i started. I am so upset that this wasn't even addressed to me when I saw Dr. Brad. The lasik doctor did let me know that my eyes are extremely dry. Funny...my referral came over to them saying i was on Xidra....how can that be when my prescription was never renewed? read more

I have worn contacts for many years and never had a problem until I started doing business with Tigard Vision. I tried to make our relationship work, after 5 years, many mistakes and unusual billing, I quit. I had to go back several times for wrong prescription and ill-fitting contacts. My third (and last) visit, I was told my eyesight had drastically changed . They sold me new lenses and gave me a huge bill $$$. When I got home, I compared my "new" prescription to my old one. It was identical, strength, curve, everything. what the heck? There was no explanation for the additional "necessary" tests or excessive charges. My entire family had been going to Tigard vision center for over 10 years! Can I just say they will kick you to the curb and not even blink an eye. I had gotten my usual contact prescription filled (like I did every year) right before my wedding, assuming all was good with insurance because I never heard anything from them. Well fast forward 7 months, I was at my parents and going through their mail, and what do you know, there was a letter from Tigard vision saying I owed around $260. Why? Then I saw that the letter was a final notice and if it wasn't paid by january they were going to send me to collections. (Which they did because I didn't even know about this letter until February). I went in to try and figure this out, thinking hey "10 years of history here and never a late payment, they can help me out" well I was Suprisingly wrong, the receptionist pretty much in a "professional" way told me "tough shit" Before this incident I had PERFECT credit, never once failed to pay a bill. My question for Tigard vision is why did you not notify me in any way, like a phone call or maybe sending my bill to the RIGHT HOUSE ADDRESS!!!! You have had my contact information and my address for over a year. I have never felt more swindled/screwed over in my life. Your receptionst or billing experts need some major work. Or just needs to learn customer service and treat your loyal customers with some decency, your a family vision center. Now the reason I am writing this review now is simply because I tried to refinance my house with my husband and now I can't because of this reported "outstanding payment" that was successfully sent to a collections agency (funny how you got their address and phone number correct) this dinged my credit score by over 100pts!! I've bounced back and forth between here and Murray Scholls vision. This is a very clean, nice office. I like the amount of affordable designer frames they carry. They will also order in different frames for you to try from catalogs. I gave 4 of 5 stars because I think the attention to detail could be a little better when ordering glasses. I had some made and the tiny was not what I wanted. Probably a communication error on both of our parts. They happily re tinted them at no cost to me but even in the retinting I asked about a mirror finish and they had them redone without finalizing my decision. They would have totally had them redone for me again if I wanted, but I think the communication could be slightly better. I say this being the negative but I have had many positive experiences over the years that has brought me back for years! I make good use of my insurance and have glasses made from these two optical centers at least 6 times. I refer people there because my overall experience is really good. They are sister companies. If you want nice glasses (more designer frames) that still don't leave you paying a lot out of pocket, go here. Be very detailed about what you want your lenses to look like so you get exactly what you want. read more

I am now writing this review, 4 years after the fact, because my sister and I were just talking about the reason I was not able to get a Parent Plus Loan for my second daughter's college education. Tigard Vision turned me over to collection over a $300 bill after I had already made a $150 payment toward the bill. Parent Plus Loan program specifically told me that Tigard Vision's collection action was the reason they were turning me down even though I had successfully taken out 4 years of Parent Plus Loans with my first daughter. Not one person from Brad's office called me to let me know I still owed them money. They just turned me over to collection. They did not only loose my business they lost the other 6 members of my family as we have been going there since my husband's 40 year old daughter was a kid, when Brad's father started and ran the business. I didn't mind paying their exorbitant prices but turning me over to collection which excluded me form taking out a loan for my daughter's education was harsh. I would like to invite Brad to call me to discuss this issue after the fact. His finance person who turns people over to collection needs to be fired. The service my family receives is beyond outstanding! My son had headaches and eye sight issues, in one session Dr. Hoban was able to diagnose and offer a treatment plan. The headaches are GONE! Kristy the lead Optician is beyond helpful and compassionate. She figures out ways to get the right product for me and my children and always within our budget. So I started reading these reviews and realized that everyone that give them below 5 stars had no legitimate review against the clinic. One of them was talking about how they kept on returning the frame because of defect, well don't u think that maybe the ones getting the bad review should be the manufacturer and not the retailer??????? The other one may have been a more legitimate complaint, but come on seriously it took five years!!??? They were obviously doing something right over there. And why in the world would you take the time to learn the eye charts!!?? I personally would love to receive the right prescription and not the one that because of me being a smart ass i can't see. Here is an actual review of the clinic. It all starts with the wonderful peanut butter chocolates located at the check in desk, followed by the bright smile of their wonderful receptionist. You sit for maybe 6 minutes to enjoy whatever is playing on their small 55" flat screen, and enjoy a nice cup of coffee on their sleep able couches. Then you are called back for the eye tests by another smiling face, I will admit some of these devices do seem a bit mid-evil but every clinic seems to have the same ones. After the mid-evil tests are over you are taken( if you opt for) to this wonderful mechanism called the optomap which pretty much takes a pic of the inside of your eye!! Dr. Brad then comes in and is very friendly and the most knowledgeable optometrist I have ever seen. Especially when it came to checking out my awesome optomap picture. After all that I got an opportunity to browse their huge selection of designer glasses, which I was assisted by their very knowledgeable optician. Then comes the part that everyone hates, checking out. But thanks to their friendly billing specialist is simple and pain free. I guess the reason is because if I don't know or understand something she is more than happy to take the time and explain it. And why not end this wonderful experience with another delicious peanut butter chocolate!! read more

While the staff was polite and the doctor seemed competent and friendly, something is really wrong with this place. I only saw one other customer while I was there and at least 5 staff, but was left to wait for long periods of time for no reason. The staff acted very strangely and when they finally came up with the billing, they had billed my insurance more than 3x what most people would consider a normal rate for a basic eye exam in this area (not dilated, not imaged or anything) and used up all my benefits so I would have to buy my glasses out of pocket. Then wanted like $400 for frames with basic single vision lenses. I told them politely that I was not happy with their way of doing business and left without purchasing their over priced glasses. At this point they are still billing my insurance for what is, in my opinion, a fraudulent amount. Stay FAR away from this place! read more

" Dr. Brad Smith actually deceived me and then called me a liar (!!!?) for reminding him that he told me the Optomap would be covered by Medical insurance (since it is not covered by VSP.) Of course, it was NOT covered and I ended up with a $300 bill!!! (WHICH further research showed should have cost me $40!!! WTF??? BE AWARE. DO NOT TRUST. Office IS lovely. Your fees pay for a HUGE wide screen tv that can shower you with commercials while you wait. read more

Ok I'm going to start off with saying yes they are more money. I left and went to a cheaper chain company and paid much less. However, they said my vision had not changed when it had and I ended up with months of headaches that could of been avoided. My daughter also has been going here since she was 6 and they have a fantastic selection and she loves the eye doctor. Since I know that they are going to be more money I just save a bit more for eye care a year. Between the chain that I went to and Tigard Vision the cost difference was around 80$. This did not include the many co pays I had to pay due to trying to figure out why I was getting so many headaches. My daughters glasses have not broken. read more

Kristy helped me pick out my glasses and they are the best pair I have ever bought. They fit me perfect and look great. This office is highly recommended. Avoid this place.....The management does not believe much in customer satisfaction. I've recently learned there is much competition in this field that does want to satisfy customers and have found such a place now. It was a mistake to go to this place, and I want to share so you can avoid the same mistake. My glasses aren't close to the sample they showed me. I am having an awful time with them, as I suffer from chronic migraines and the wrong tint view can make a difference in level of pain. Katie the office manager has refused to work with me, doesn't seem to care one bit that it affects my health. There seems to always be a mistake in the glasses they have produced for me. When I had contacted to attempt to resolve, she and her opticians Kristy and Erica would pretend to be too busy to talk to me and the other opticians would only give me cold, robotic, lifeless responses. Katie would then only respond by email with cold, crude responses. It felt pretty discriminating. Bottom line, if you want to receive unsatisfactory products/service, feel discriminated against, and don't mind price gouging, then go to this place. I try to be fair, so I will update with any responses I get from them good or bad, but don't hold your breath- I'm not. read more
