My wife and I visited this cute little ice cream cafe in the cool, quiet & beautiful Empire, MI for the first time yesterday. The location was excellent on the main road leading off of M22 right into the town center near the Empire Beach, on the left-hand side of the road. The outside of the ice cream shop was colorfully painted and decorated, had adequate, free parking on the street, the inside of the shop was bright, interestingly decorated, highlighted many delicious flavors of ice cream behind glass-enclosed counters, were greeted by the friendly shop employees, friendly, efficient service, the dining room had a good amount of comfortable seating including some outside, our ice cream was delicious and reasonably priced (but only accepted CASH!), and had fans running to make it bearable in the summer heat. read more

This cafe seems to be a small and cozy ma and pa type of shop. When you go in, there are two different counter areas. I was a bit confused at first as to where I order the sandwiches. I realized the menu for food was to the right and you order at the window. After ordering, you then walk to the left to pay at the register. There you can order drinks, sweets, and icecream. The shop interior is really small and cute. The food was pretty good. It is very homemade tasting. There is parking on the tight street outside, but be careful because people seem to drive fast. As I was walking across the street, one guy flew out of his parking spot and almost hit me. It can be hard to manuever around because of the small street. The sandwiches here have really gone down hill. For $11, I got the Chix Philly which was a small ciabatta sandwich with pieces of chicken, melted cheese, and a few slivers of green pepper. It was so small I wondered where the rest of the sandwich went. The menu is by the pickup window so if you have any questions you get scolded to go to the other side of the store where the cashier is. If you want us to order by the cashier, why don't you put the menu there?! read more

The older woman behind the counter had a surgical mask with vertical cuts on both sides of the mask to allow air in. Why even wear a mask?!? We had the pleasure to visit Tiffany's and to meet Tina, half of the new ownership couple, during a trip to Sleeping Bear in October. I'm delighted to say that the shop hasn't lost an ounce of its charm. The ice cream was delish (as always!), the service was friendly and attentive, and Tina and her family are doing a great job of providing a safe environment during this Winter of COVID. It's wonderful that they've extended their hours into the fall, a great bonus for those of us who love to come north during the colder weather to enjoy the leaves and the quiet. Great find on Yelp. Joes is next door but their food is not as fresh. Simple menu for all types, my brother is a vegetarian and he lived his wrap. I had the Caesar Wrap, can't beat local fresh ingredients. Most people were coming for the ice cream. I got a shake, so good. Great chocolate malts, friendly service, and they're even open occasionally during shoulder season. We stopped in at the end of September --- most of the Sleeping Bear Dunes area shuts down on Labor Day, so we were pleasantly surprised to find this place open (and the owner told us they usually wouldn't be, at that time of year). The chocolate malt (with chocolate ice cream) was creamy rather than chalky, had a good solid malt flavor, and the chocolate ice cream made a great base. The iced coffee (regular drip poured into a cup of ice) worked quite well, and the owner was happy to brew a fresh pot for the next customer after I finished off the last one. Tiffany's (the ice-cream-and-coffee side of things) shares a building and tables with the Little Finger Eatery, which was closed when we visited --- maybe next time. read more

I picked Butter Pecan (with WHOLE pecans) and Strawberry Cheesecake. My husband ordered up the Strawberry Cheesecake and the Peanut Butter Swirl (with massive chunks of pb cups). Delectable, melty heaven. Under $3 for a small (enormous) cone. The Connecticut woman in front of us couldn't get over the size. "I'll never be able to eat this! I need a cup! Not 100% sure this is the best ice cream in the whole world or I just think it is because we always go there after being baked hiking sleeping bear dunes, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt 'cause we all just love going there. Stopped in here for lunch on the way to Sleeping Bear Dunes--what a great spot! The menu offered nice options--interesting but not overly gourmet, and I had trouble deciding what to order! I picked the Caesar chicken salad wrap, and it was delicious. My companions had the grilled cheese (she loved it) and the pesto tomato sandwich (rated very good!). The store itself is welcoming with a warm and friendly vibe. Prices were very fair, staff was friendly and helpful and the location was beautiful. In front of the store they have a couple of Michigan-shaped Adirondack chairs, very cute! We sat on the small but very pretty patio so the dog could join us. The patio is next to a nursery, so we had views of their flowers plus the Empire street. We loved this place so much that we made a special trip back after the park to get ice ice cones! read more

I've been to Tiffany's before and the remodel they did is absolutely amazing. I was also pleasantly surprised at the addition of Little Finger Eatery. I couldn't wait to try their food. I got the pesto caprese panini and my wife got the Empire salad. Bother were delicious (I'm not going to lie, I ate some of hers when she wasn't looking). After we ate, we each grabbed some ice cream and walked the couple of blocks to the beach to watch the sun set. If you're in the area I highly recommend it for a meal, ice cream, or both. read more

I dream of Empire. Not only do i dream of the sunny, sandy coast, but i dream of the frozen licks of Mackinaw Island fudge after a hard day of flying kites and swimming at the beach. There's not much to this place. Usually a brace face ackward teenager serves up a monster waffle cone stuffed so high it defies gravity. The wood floor creaks with every step like an old hardware store and the air is thick with sugary sweetness. I'll sit outside to gawk at the collection of lawn gnomes that the neighbor has in the front yard and consider taking one on some photographic adventures. For some reason this is one of my favorite places in the world and anticipate going here as often as i can. If you know where empire is, i also suggest checking out the dunegrass music festival, super fun. cheers. read more
