A lot of food options in town but this was my go to for fast, grab-to-go things. Really good sandwiches, pasta salads, wings, and this burrito was a huge find. And it was so good! Get there early (8ish), the deli person said they sell out. Would love to see this store have a little more in pre packaged foods-to-go. That seems to be a general need. Even pre-made burgers or plain chicken breasts for dogs would have been amazing for people traveling with pets. I only gave 4 stars because I went to the deli last night at dinner time and food looked dry and not great, so I had to order takeout. read more

An amazing small grocery store with some high end products. This place is similar to places near high end communities where you see lobster tails and superb cuts of beef. Lots of high end spirits and wine. Many small batch jars of sauces, condiments, jams, etc. Boars Head meets sliced for you. Nice salmon and Tuna. Plus the regular groceries that everyone needs. They even have a single barrel whisky that the staff selects and has bottled just for them. It's better than expected for the price. Staff was super helpful and polite. A great spot to grab some fresh fruits and veggies (and other local baked goods and cold beverages) when in the area while camping in the Sleeping Bear area. We grabbed some fresh produce, kombuchas and CBD-infused beverages, random pantry items, and more. They have it all. Of course, the prices are a bit higher than a normal chain, but a great option to have in a small town. Highly recommend if need random supplies in the area and don't want to drive far out of the way to go elsewhere. read more

No other option in Glen Arbor (or anywhere close) for groceries. There is a pretty good, if limited and expensive, selection of groceries that should have everything you most likely need. This market is convenient to where we were staying at The Homestead last month but they are totally clueless about customer service. When my brother in law realized the strawberries he'd bought had not been bagged, my sister in law offered to go back and get them. Long story short the manager pretty much accused her of lying and wouldn't give her the strawberries that had been purchased even with the receipt. As if we'd make another trip to steal from them?! We got lunch supplies at Anderson's for our day in Sleeping Bear Dunes. They have a nice deli, with lots of choices for meat, cheese, etc. Prices are reasonable (not crazy like you'd expect in this area), and the people are friendly. They have a nice little salad bar for $8.99 per pound also. The lady at the meat counter even suggested we take some plastic silverware and mustard/mayo packets since it was obvious we were making sandwiches. Great place! read more

This market has a pretty good selection for a small grocery store in a camping area. Everything is nice and clean, but it's still charming and has a small town feel. The employees are great, specifically a blonde European young woman I saw dealing with a difficult customer with so much patience. I was really impressed. I want to thank the manager or owner who last year told me to I should go to Meijer I did not like it. I was attempting to return beverage cans and the machine was not accepting my cans. A employee came out and said "yea its not working properly right now". Take your bottles inside and I will count and give you a slip. Then I entered the store, A manager or owner asked what I was doing and I explained. He stated the can return machine was working fine. I said it is not and you employee sent me inside. He then stated, "I`ll give $5.00 right now for your cans. I declined and he then said I could take them to Meijer if I didn`t like it. We spent just over $1000.00 in food last year for the week. My many thanks for your suggestion as we did in fact drive into Meijer a few times and on ly spent $580.00 this year. Your loss and my gain. read more

Tried the regular homemade brats and they were delicious! Can't want to get back and try the beer brats and cherry brats. Wow, what an upgrade! This grocery store has expanded out over the former patio and added some great new products, focusing on local, fresh, and handmade specialties. Anderson's- more than just toilet paper and s'mores! My new favorites are the huge deli counter and fresh deli salads- try the Tuscan Bean salad, and try not to eat the whole container, I dare you. I fell in love with the Koeze brand natural peanut butter, made in Michigan with real Virginia peanuts, and bought several jars to bring back home with me from our summer trip to Glen Arbor. The wine selection is always entertaining- try some local selections with some fresh cherries. Pints of Moomers' famous ice cream can be found in the ice cream case- try Cookie Monster (oreo and cookie dough). read more

I really like Anderson's. It's what grocery stores used to be before they got supersized. Very well stocked. They have a good selection of wine and spirits. Tip: Try some of the fish they smoke in the store, as well as some of the other freshly made items like their smoked fish pate. Well worth it. read more

This store had a great selection, given its limited space. I shop there regularly and will continue to do so. However, right now I will only do pickup rather than going in. They do not require their cashiers to wear masks. When I was there last, two of them were only wearing face shields. Below is what the Department of Health says about face shields, so they are not complying with the mask requirement: "Q: Are face shields acceptable alternatives to mask? A: No. The CDC does not recommend the use of face shields as a substitute for cloth face coverings. However, a face shield that covers the eyes, nose and mouth can be worn in addition to a cloth mask if desired. Moreover, a face shield may be worn by younger children who are not required to wear a cloth face mask." I hope that they ask their cashiers to wear masks again so that I feel safe going in again. read more

Hands-down the best eating in Glen Haven, Glen Arbor, or Empire. Each and every time, a picnic lunch from Anderson's IGA has beaten the pants off every restaurant meal on a Sleeping Bear Dunes trip. I tend to go for sliced goods from the deli counter (mostly Boar's Head stuff), a loaf of bread, a wedge of cheese, and some salad fixings. Beverage-wise, there's a good microbrew and fancy cider selection, and they've got 200ml bottles of Journeyman whiskey for the distilled side of things. Bring a cooler, get some ice, and set up one of the tastiest meals you can get near Sleeping Bear Dunes. read more

I'm grateful to have this little full-service grocer in the area. For most of the pandemic, I have felt safe going in, and the store had what I needed. However, recently the cashiers haven't been wearing masks. They wear face shields, but that's not enough. Think of COVID aerosols as if they were breath fog on a cold day: The breath fog would easily get around the face shields. I don't feel safe going in there, which makes me sad. read more

We really enjoyed sitting at the tables outside with our deli sandwiches after a morning of hiking around the area. The veggie sandwich was fresh and tasty, and there was a great selection of options. The staff was friendly and helpful. We went back for groceries for dinner, and this was where Andersons really shone. There was an extensive selection of Northern Michigan local food- the whitefish dip was amazing (as were the others from the same company, Andersons stocks 6 or 7) and we got our fill of dried cherries, local granola and an amazing sriracha maple marinade that we used on chicken that night. This is a great - albeit pricey - local grocery store/gourmet shop/lifesaver/institution. Locally owned with incredibly high quality offerings and a consistently friendly staff, it has been in Glen Arbor forever. Most importantly, the only grocery store in town, so yay for Anderson's! Most people bring the basics with them when they head up north at the beginning of the season, but you invariably forget something and/or have to restock and are too lazy/rich/busy/desperate to take the 45 minute drive into TC to hit one of the big grocery stores. This is where Anderson's becomes a priceless asset to the community. Throwing a cocktail party and realize you're out of vermouth, cocktail onions, or for that matter, decent Gin? Dying for some really great cheese? Too lazy to make your own egg salad? Made a pasta dinner and realized you haven't got any garlic bread? Need the Sunday NY Times or the Enterprise? Forgot the fresh dill? Looking for lamb chops? Need a trashy magazine for the beach? Anderson's comes through again and again and again. Grocery standards (canned soup, jello, frozen pizzas, soda, detergent,cleaning supplies, etc.) along with a very impressive gourmet selection including Boars Head meats, Stonehouse Breads, an extensive and thoughtfully selected wine/beer selection, and some extremely nice cheeses. Great meat counter/deli offerings, better than expected produce (produce here has traditionally blown, they appear to be improving this section thank god). Come in to pick up the basics to stock your cottage - come back for your every day necessities and Anderson's consistently high quality offerings. I would take 1/2 of a star off if I could as they have a captive audience and are definitely on the pricey side. That being said, I hit this place on a near daily basis when I'm here and don't mind spending a bit extra for the convenience, so 5 stars it is! read more

From local wines, to beach towels, to grilling supplies, they know their customers' needs & stock for it. Very clean & well-organized. I love this place. Perfect grocery store for cooking oriented tourist as I am. Excellent choice of veggies, fruits and deli meat for a remote location as Glen Lake. Did I mention that they have very tasty pre-made salads? So don't bother with potato salad and just focus on your protein (stake is my choice) and spend more time on the water. My advice to anyone vacationing in Glen Arbor is to do their grocery shopping in Traverse City. Anderson's is the only grocery store in Glen Arbor and they mark up their products about 60-100%. We go here only if we absolutely need something or if we are too lazy to drive into TC. They are well stocked, they do carry most items you could want but it is pricey. If you are staying in cabin, apartment, or condo in the area and need to buy perishables that couldn't make the trip, stop in here for a wide selection and decent pricing. They have a decent wine and beer selection and above all, I recommend their rotisserie chicken - easily feeds 4 adults. Place is very reliable! Great selection on foods and names brand items! They have pre made lunches (I suggest a chicken salad with ranch dressing) Its all amazing there but it's very expensive. The grocery store has expanded over the years and also now has a outdoor eating section for people to sit down. Its very close so people that are in a cottage or staying in the homestead don't have to dive a while for groceries. The only reason why I rated it 4 stars was for its prices I see items I can eat where we live for much cheeper then up here. read more

Very small and limited selection, however the store is clean, and fresh. The cinnamon buns made in house were delicious, they also carry jams, pies, and other local produce from vendors in the area which are great. We also purchased a Greek pasta salad that was good, and a roasted chicken that was delicious as well. What a delightful and conveniently located market. We were staying in Glen Arbor and were so grateful to find this place. We thought we would have to drive to Traverse City to obtain groceries, but Anderson's had what we needed and more at very reasonable prices for a tourist area.
