We also ordered the Boursin cheese omelette that is served on a tortilla with fresh tomatoes. Both of these were AMAZING and we found Cracked the next day and got the exact same order plus pancakes before our drive home. Bottom line this place is legit. It's a walk up window specializing in soft serve treats like cones, sundaes, flurries, shakes and malts. The ice cream is smooth and dreamy! I had the turtle sundae and it was divine! My mom went for a soft serve with strawberries and we were impressed that it was chunks of fresh strawberries, not a fake syrup. My husband went with an orange float and it was made with local Northwoods soda. It was all so good! They also have a menu of savory snacks like soft pretzels, nachos, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and sloppy joes. We kept talking about stopping by for a pretzel but it didn't work out so I can't speak much to their savory offerings, unfortunately. The stand itself is adjacent to the GT Butterfly House & Bug Zoo and, upon looking the place up online, I learned that Kettlewell's is the name of a groundbreaking moth researcher and that's the kind of nerdy trivia that I live for. We had a couple of sandwiches and ice cream at lunch and the next night went back for ice cream and shakes. The malts and shakes were outstanding. What made this an outstanding experience both times was the amazing staff. Both times we visited there was a crew of young men running the place. They were as nice as they were efficient. Plus it looked like they were having fun. Made us smile and think of summer jobs in our youth.

They combine the bleu cheese crumbles with cream cheese, which mellows that stronger flavor without losing the goodness. Even if bleu cheese isn't usually your thing, this one deserves a shot. My advice? Find someone to split a burger with so you have room for fries AND onion rings. No regrets. The service made the whole experience even better. You can tell these folks care about more than serving a great meal -- they want you to enjoy your time in Traverse City, too. An easy 10/10!
