Always drove past this place and never stopped. Finally did and it was a fun time with the family. There's tons of options, something for everyone. There's always a line here. But it went by really fast, plus it gives you time to really think about what you want. It's cash only. But we didn't have any. My husband went across the street there's an ATM! In case you don't have cash like us haha. I got a baby black cherry sundae. Perfect size if you can't finish a small. My husband got a cappuccino shake. I kept stealing some it was so good. I would hit the Slab Burger and grab a root beer from them.. no ice..take it over to the Dairy Lodge and have them at a small cone size of ice cream it would make the best and I mean d-best root beer float you've ever had.. Great ice cream, meh service. This seems like a staple for the neighborhood - a "quick" and cheap, good ice cream stand within walking distance to water views and downtown shops. The line was very long, showing the popularity (or slowness of service). Once we ordered, our friends ordered after us. I ordered a simple, twist cone with chocolate dip. Watching our friends get their ice cream, along with several other parties after us, made me suspicious that my simple single order was forgotten... But watch out if other people think you're trying to get ahead of them... woah! People can sometimes be so possessive over a $3 ice cream cone that they think is theirs... Perhaps indicative of the insane line and wait to receive your order. Once I went up to the window and found out that they did indeed forget my order, the lady kindly apologized and made it. It is a very good soft-serve ice cream, and the chocolate dip was one of the better ones that I've had. The price was still right, $3 for a medium cone and 85 cents for the dip. They aren't as generous with the size portions as some other midwest ice cream favorites of mine, but it was appropriate (perhaps "normal"). Nothing to rave about, but simply a good neighborhood ice cream fix for the soft-serve lovers in the group. read more

The fabulous sign atop the Dairy Lodge grabbed my attention, and the face cut-out sign in the parking lot sealed the deal. I'd had a rough afternoon, so we stopped & were really pleased to find Dole Whip for my dairy-free date. Both the orange and raspberry Dole Whip were stupendous! I forgot how much colder Dole Whip can be, and suffered a freezing throat for a second, but a sip of water helped that. Service was friendly and fast.
