It has a new solid state drive, a good battery, and a few hardware repairs. Thank you EB! Why am I so keen? Because a new comparable computer would cost me between $1000-$1500. I can do some of this stuff myself, so I can assess whether I'm getting a fair deal on parts and service. I have bought parts, computers, hard drives and had my machine in for service when it was too fiddly and I was too busy. I trust them to do a good job at a good price.

I went to DTI and I talked to Stacey, the owner, about buying some hard to get equipment (a 3080 Geforce GPU). Incredibly, he had it in stock, when no one else did. Stacey ended up knocking $100 off the price, which he didn't have to. He went into detail about his suppliers, the market for the cards, which showed a lot of honesty and knowledge about the business. Stacey is smart and loves his job. I'm a dude. I'm nerdy. But I get the strong sense that they treat women, and less nerdy customers with the same respect they did to me. DTI's downtown location is small and has limited parking. It doesn't have the glitzy and corporate look of a Bestbuy. The prices seem reasonable and it has a great selection. I would start here for any computer purchase. There's nice gems in the city, and DTI computers is one of them. BONUS: When I came there, there was a white cat in the store. The owner was taking care of the kitty for a friend. I got some quality pets in.

I recently brought in my 2013 MacBook Pro laptop to EB Computers when it unexpectedly shut off and…read morewouldn't restart. They quickly determined it was a logic board failure and that repair would cost upwards of $1200.00 to fix. They advised me that based on the cost of repair I might be better off looking at trading it in against one of the used computers they sell. They also told me that they would be interested in my machine for parts and offered me $300 as a trade in. As I had purchased my $2500 + MacBook Pro brand new only 4 years prior, this was understandably a difficult pill to swallow. I decided to go with a gut feeling I had and get a second opinion, so I took it to THE MAC PROS on Douglas street. Within 3 minutes of arriving at the store he ran my serial number through the Apple website and confirmed that Apple had a recall on the Logic board for this model and year. He gave me the customer service phone number for Apple and told me I should call them to confirm the warranty coverage would apply as the date of my serial number was close to the end of the recall dates. Long story short, YES it was covered under the warranty recall and it has since been fixed with new logic board and runs perfect. This cost me all of $39.95 at The Mac Pros, instead of THOUSANDS of dollars and a replaced machine, had it been through EB Computers. I have since told my story to a few surprised Mac users I know. I highly recommend Tyler at The Mac Pros.
