Taiwanese fried oyster noodle

This place is worth all the hype! All the dishes and drinks we tried were delicious! I would recommend 3 dishes for 2 people as some of the dishes are a bit small. The fried oyster noodles were full of umami, but somehow light at the same time. The fried chicken and waffles use glutinous flour so it had a mochi texture that was so satisfying to eat. The crab sandwich was super crunchy and had two soft shell crabs inside. Don't miss out on the drinks - highly recommend the hojicha milk tea! Expect a wait around 20-30 minutes on the weekends.

Ordered some Taiwanese takeout along with a softshell crab onigiri, and overall it was a mixed experience. The pork chop was really good--crispy, flavorful, and filling. Popcorn chicken was also a win, crunchy and seasoned just right. The softshell crab onigiri, on the other hand, was just fine--nothing special and not something I'd go out of my way to order again. Big letdown was the milk tea. It didn't taste great and came with no bubbles at all, which was disappointing. Overall, the food side is worth trying (especially the pork chop and popcorn chicken), but I'd skip the drinks and the onigiri.

What drew me is was how cozy this little Taiwanese restaurant was. Inside there were was a small station for cold water, hot tea, napkins and utensils. I don't usually get nento boxes, but i decided to get the charred miso salmon Bento. I was especially impressed with the acidic pop of the tomatoes and the delicate flavor of the miso salmon. The spicy tuna onigiri was nice because it was wrapped in plastic so that the seaweed would remain crisp.

Quick revision - the granola is not sunflower, but pumpkin seed! Thanks for clarifying last time we went, Jennifer! And the takodogs are limited - so get there early! We snagged the last one last time. The pork belly with rice was delicious, too - next time I'll have to ask for more pickled mustard!

I thought eating bhindi with a tsongyobing at home was the peak of Taiwanese-Indian fusion, but I've been outdone by this whimsical Taiwanese eatery located on an unlikely corner of Harrison. Their five spice paneer bento box is outstanding. And don't forget the surprisingly delicious mashed potatoes that come on the side. Or the very spicy la-yau on the table that takes everything to the next level. I was a bit too full for the onigiri by the time it came out, but it had a very generous portion of ume, and the few bites I had were excellent.

In the battle of the fried chicken I don't think Taiwanese chicken gets the recognition it deserves it really holds its own next to Korean fried chicken (undoubtedly the more popular in the US). I really do like the umami of the soy garlic sauce of Korean wings and I appreciate that flake off crunch you only get from the potato starch and double frying but these Taiwanese popcorn chicken are tender and delicious never greasy and bite sized. Taiwanese popcorn chicken is boneless and uses thigh meat whereas Korean chicken uses wings and chicken and both white and dark Meat. Overall Taiwanese holds its own on boba shops and night markets but I'd love to see it more widespread . Tiam Tiam is a Taiwanese restaurant in Harrison, NJ specializing in comfort Taiwanese fusion food. They don't pretend to be 100% authentic nor 100% fusion, it just reallu good food with a side of food coma. The space is modest but the chicken is 10/10. You really can't beat the value here. For $8.50 I got this stuffed takeout container of fried chicken.. I opted for the appetizer (which really is entree sized!) which I had for dinner with homemade jasmine rice but they also offer a popcorn chicken platter which comes with mashed potato or corn. I really love the slightly sweet cinnamon notes with the salt and peppery taste. It's unique from any fried chicken you've ever had. One of the crispiest and not dry at all despite not being sauced (it comes with a sweet spicy mayo on the side). This was a delicious meal and definitely worth the drive. I can't wait to come back! Also curious about their Sunday brunch menu.

A cozy little Taiwanese joint in Harrison, NJ. I ordered the salt & pepper chicken bento -- the fried chicken was super crispy and juicy, and the portion was bigger than expected. What really stood out was their homemade chili oil -- rich, fragrant, and perfectly spicy. The side dishes were thoughtful and balanced, not just fillers. Great vibes, warm service, and a menu full of familiar flavors. I'll be back.

I enjoyed trying this place! I came to try the awesome brunch menu, but was bummed & disappointed to discover brunch is only on Sundays! I ordered the recommended items: Brussel Sprouts and the Beef Broccoli fried rice. The Brussels were delicious, heavily season and tangy! I really did not like the fried rice at all. It was way too sticky and wet. I would not recommend that to anyone. With that said the portions are huge! The prices are kinda steep for a hole in the wall so it makes sense that portions are large. I would recommend getting 1-2 dishes for At least 2-3 people.

Tiam Tiam is totally worth the hype! I first learned about the restaurant at the AAPI Jazz Fest at Rutgers-Newark in May as they were one of the vendors at the event. Food was provided to the event volunteers, so I wouldn't have necessarily had a reason to try their food -- but the owners were generous and serious enough about their food that they decided to give the little food they had left when they were closing up to the event staff and volunteers. It was at that time that I got to try a few of their onigiri, a rice bowl, and milk tea. Because of how late the event ended, I wound up eating the items for breakfast the next morning, but even still, the food was very much enjoyable and delicious so I made a mental note to visit the location in the future. That visit finally happened recently when a friend and I shared a Taiwanese braised pork belly bento and that day's special of fried pork chops over rice. Everything was so delicious: The braised pork belly had good soy sauce flavor and we enjoyed the assortment of side dishes that varied the texture and flavor profile of the bento, while the seasoning on the pork chops enhanced the fried texture but minimized the potential greasiness of such preparation. Besides, there was enough food that I was able to take some leftovers home after we finished eating. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side with limited seating, so you may find yourself having to sit with other people at the same table. For this reason, Tiam Tiam seems to be more popular for take out and we saw many people doing just that during the hour and a half or so that we were there. One customer commented to the cashier that he drove over 30 minutes to pick up his order because it was that good. I will be returning in the future to try their other dishes!

A thousand years ago, when I was a wee lass, I spent a summer living in Harrison. It wasn't a fun summer or a fun town--we lived in an area where it wasn't safe to be out after 8pm. I don't have good memories of that time and haven't been back to Harrison since... ...Until Tiam Tiam came up on a list of good eats, and our curiosity grew stronger than our dislike of commuting, so we schlepped out here one Sunday afternoon to see what Taiwanese eats this place had to offer. - Taiwanese Popcorn Fried Chicken: Juicy and tasty, but not my favorite. This needed way, way more white pepper and there wasn't any basil (boo). From older photos, it looks like they used to fry these with fresh basil, but they must've stopped when demand became overwhelming (boo again). - Taiwanese Breakfast Congee: Loaded with all the meat floss your grandma used to give you and a very uniquely flavored youtiao. The perfect Taiwanese breakfast bowl. - Taiwanese Fried Oyster Noodle: I saved the best for last because I'm about to rave. My first sip of the thick, bonito-laden broth was an instant memory unlock: only my Taiwanese grandma has made broth like this. It was delicious, it was comforting, it was home. I can't believe I found a place that makes orh ah me sua that tastes like my grandma's! Aside from the phenomenally rich, tart and packed with flavor broth, the oysters were perfectly fried as well. I don't care if you're allergic to mollusks...GET THIS! Just bring your epi pen. ;)

They serve Taiwanese street food packages in Japanese bento style. They also serve variety of onigiris. I had Miso salmon bento and ordered popcorn chicken and stir fried oysters to share. The food was fresh and delicious and the portion was large. Not a gourmet dining place but great food at affordable prices. Will definitely come back to sample more selections.

We visited on Sunday so we were limited to the brunch menu. They have a very unique offering and we were excited to try something new. What I ordered: - Taro French Toast with Boba (Milk Tea French Brioche Toast, Boba, Taro, Whipped Cream, Shaved Salted Egg Yolk, Granola) - Taiwanese Fried Chicken & Waffles (Scallion Mochi Waffle. Taiwanese Popcorn Fried Chicken Fried Basil, Taiwanese Sweet & Sour Honey Glaze) The food was good, I see why they receive high praises for that. Service was ok, nothing to really complain about. You just order at the front and wait. They weren't really helpful or friendly but did their job. We came on a Sunday morning around 11AM and there was a decent amount of foot traffic in and out. I feel like it is really more of a grab and go place than an actual sit down because we just ordered at the front and awkwardly stood in the middle of the restaurant because all the tables were occupied. It was a really cold rainy day so we couldn't wait outside. We were a group of 5 so seating was limited as the bigger table was already taken by a family of 3. Unfortunately we didn't know that beforehand and all of us came from far away in different directions so we just had to wait. A group of two who came after us tried to take the table tried to take the big table right when the family got up but I had to explain we had been waiting awhile and we needed the big table. They moved to one of the available smaller tables. It was sort of chaotic because you just seat yourselves. I'd come again if I was dining solo or just with one person. Parking around the area is street parking so it might be hit or miss.

Fell in love with this spot today! Amazing Taiwanese food in an unsuspecting location...Harrison of all places?! Ordered the onigiri and Taiwanese popcorn chicken lunch combo, and it was SO GOOD. The chicken was freshly fried and crispy. The onigiri was a generous size and tasted amazing. And you can't beat the price here. Everything is affordable. Can't wait to come back and try more items, including their brunch menu!

Although not easy to find on the tail end of a nondescript commercial strip, we saw its sign and walked in to a decent sized dining room with a half dozen booths along one wall and about a dozen tables spread across the remainder. Plenty of original watercolors displayed and for sale on the walls. David the proprietor seemed to be handling most of the operation himself. He sat us, took our order, disappeared into the kitchen to participate in its preparation and served our four courses to us in traditional style - separately as ready. The food was excellent. We chose from both the lunch and regular menu, which were integrated seamlessly. Fried Pork Chop, Crispy Fried Intestine, Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce from the mains, and Orange Beef from the lunch list. I started with Hot &Sour Soup, which was flavorful and loaded with tofu, sprouts, pork slivers and potent vinegar. Loved it! The Pork Chop was deboned and pressed thin. The result was a crisp sliced Katsu-like cutlet with nice flavor and long crunchy chew. The Intestine was also crisp and filled with green beans that mixed well with the hardened shell and soft innards. Not my fave, but my lovely partner ate it enthusiastically. The Fish and Chili was very good, with tender lightly breaded white fish fillets and red chili sauce that included small pieces of celery, sprouts and cabbage, in a large bowl. Finally, the lunch sized Orange Beef was delicious with sweet and spicy amber sauce coating the pieces of lightly crisped beef. Ubiquitous broccoli sprigs added color to the dish. Service was friendly and accommodating. David was happy to interact and talk about his business there. Red Onion is a Five Star keeper.

My eyes lit up when I saw the menu. The owners are from Tainan, Taiwan which is often consider the culinary capital of Taiwan with many iconic traditional dishes and flavors. The restaurant is spacious but it does not have many table seatings (3-5 tables?). When we came it wasn't busy so we got a spot but we did see many people coming in for their takeout orders. The oldies they play at the restaurant take me back to my childhood. The place is structured very interestingly where it's an open kitchen so you can actually easily see how they prep the food in the back. We ordered: - oyster omelette pancake - mung wort kueh (4 pieces) - danzai noodle - mixed spice platter The oyster omelette was the highlight! The bottom is crispy and they use a generous amount of oysters. It's the most authentic oyster pancake I've had in the east coast. Alot of other "Taiwanese spots" don't make it correctly. I also love the mung wort kueh (hard to find places that sell this) - it's a fun snack to take to go. It's a savory mochi bun with shredded radish as the main ingredient. The danzai noodle is an iconic dish from Tainan. Its main star consists of the one shrimp and the marinated ground braised pork. Although I would prefer the dry version but they serve the soup version here. The broth tastes very clear and clean, doesn't feel like it's dosed with salt and MSG. We got the mixed platter - an iconic street food in Tainan is 滷味 (Lou Wei) which is consist of different ingredients tossed and braised in a soy-based spice sauce. They have a nice selection of Lou Wei options and the platter we got had pork belly, duck neck, tofu skin, and lotus roots. The spicy duck neck can be intimidating for those that have never had it but it is fun to eat. There are so many items on there that I can't wait to try. For first timer, definitely get the oyster pancake and Luroufan! I can't wait to come back and try more of the traditional Taiwanese dishes. They also have frozen dumplings that you can buy to go. 50 pieces for $28-$30 is a pretty good price!
