Mole chicken enchiladas

My favorite mole in all of the DC area! We sat on the rooftop balcony and it was a fun atmosphere. We had a great waiter. If you like mole, this is the best around!

Guacamole

My family and I have been eating at Tia Queta for around 40+ years; from its original location to its current one. Never a bad meal, and one of the few Mexican restaurants in the area that actually makes a Mole (top notch at that). Everyone is polite amongst the staff, providing a pleasant dining experience. Cozy seating with ceramics and glassware on the walls. It's a welcoming visit every time, always a great meal, and never a disappointment. While always being easy on the wallet.

Excellent food and the most beautiful atmosphere in Bethesda. Excellent food, very knowledgeable staff. Love the guac and mole!

Fantastic restaurant for 50 years! So sorry they closed. I named my Dog Tia in honor of this restaurant.

Best mole in the area. Feels like you're at a grandma's house eating home cooked food in the best way.

I'd never have guessed 'spicy' (at a Mexican restaurant) is a $2 up-charge!! Only found out when I got the bill. And yes, I did mention it but nada. A heads up that asking for your Bloody Mary'spicy' will cost you $2 extra would've been nice. I also didn't appreciate the $14 guac that came w less than enough chips to finish the dip, but ordering "extra" chips are an extra cost. (free for the table with salsa at other Mexican restaurants). Anyways, I caveat this by saying photos online tell a different story, but it wasn't how ours came. My wife ordered 2 tacos for $14, no sides or anything else included, meh. If you end up going, their drinks are probably the best part of the place, but don't deviate without confirming you're not adding a hidden cost. Also, ration your chip/dip ratio, unless you're ok with spending more than $14 on a one avocado guacamole. Other than that the food was ok, our waitress was good (except for not telling me about a charge), but the nickel/dime policies aren't the best. It just left a bad taste.

It was one of the most popular restaurant's in Bethesda; George Bush Sr. went there when he was President! We stopped in for a late lunch around 2:00 on a Friday. We had an excellent server who updated us on mixing and matching popular dishes. We started with the Strawberry Mango Soft Serve Margarita! Talk about 'tipsy scoops'! We shared the 'soft serve', and were tempted to order another, but realized it was only 2 o'clock in the afternoon and we were going to be up late! It was a very 'refreshing' and great tasting drink We ordered a side of Guacamole and chips. The Guacamole was delicious - and the chips were warm and crisp - not too hard as I've recently experienced at other Mexican restaurants. For our entrees, we ordered the Shrimp Fajitas and the Steak and Chicken Fajitas. The Shrimp Fajitas came sizzling on a very hot cast iron skillet. The mesquite grilled shrimp were sitting on a bed of onions, red and green peppers. The shrimp were tender and very flavorful. We each placed 4 shrimp on a soft flour tortilla shell, layered with guacamole, rice, shredded cheese, onions, peppers and salsa. It was as great as it sounds! Before I made fajitas with the Steak and Chicken, I tasted the meat separately. The steak was very good - tender and seasoned nicely. However, the real surprise was the Chicken; both my partner and I were delighted how delicious it was! My partner had most of the Steak, and we shared the Chicken! Well, after a few years, my memories of Uncle Julio's were still holding true - the fajitas were excellent and every bit as good as I remembered them being! We may have to stop back sooner!

We had Shrimp Fajitas and Chicken Quesadillas. The chips were fresh but I was not a fan of the Roasted Salsa. El Jeffe Margaritas were very good! Will return for Happy Hour.

The hostess was very sweet and I got to take advantage of the nice weather and sit outside. It's taco Tuesday, so the hostess and the server both reminded me it was "buy one get one free" - a great deal! I decided to go big and try four tacos, and all of them were very good! I'm from Southern California, so usually am picky about tacos, and some of these really exceeded my expectation. Al pastor: very tender and flavorful. A teeny bit dry, but perfect with the red salsa they brought for the table. Beef birria: nice and crispy tortilla, the consommé was very fragrant and not too salty, and they were generous with the beef. As normal with birria, it's a bit heavier/oilier, so one was enough, but it's very good! Baja fish: probably one of the favs! I made the mistake of leaving it to last, so the outside of the fish was a little less crispy, but if you eat it sooner, that shouldn't be an issue. The piece of fish was very large and cooked perfectly (very flaky). The flavor was great, especially with that red salsa. Avocado tostada: generous toppings, great flavor balance, fun crunch with very soft toppings. If you've ever eaten a tostada, you know you have to approach it like I imagine people approach skittish horses: with total confidence, even if you know it'll end up as a mess on the place. Otherwise, service was very quick and friendly and they didn't come and bother me during the meal, which I love. It really filled up while I was eating, such a testament to how good this place is. I definitely can't wait to come back!

I'm glad it was not a piece of chewy/tough meat like most taco places. It was seasoned well. The al pastor was prepared the same way. Both the green and red sauces were decent. If you are looking for something with more spice, ask for the 3rd sauce they offer. The rice and beans were bland, nothing special to them. I also ordered a horchata, unfortunately it was just another cinnamon milk, this is a preference drink. There are multiple ways of preparing a horchata and this one even though it was bottled nicely just didn't do it for me. Overall a decent experience for lunch, service was quick and everything was cooked well. Carne asada taco - 7/10 Al pastor 6.5/10 Horchata 4/10

We started with the Shrimp & Mango Ceviche, which was incredibly refreshing. The combination of avocado, mango pico, jalapeño, radish, cilantro, and fresh lime juice created the perfect balance of sweet, citrusy, and just the right amount of heat. The Elote was another standout. The grilled corn topped with their signature sauce, cotija cheese, and guajillo powder was creamy, savory, and packed with flavor. It's a must-order. For tacos, I tried the Ancho Shrimp Taco, which was topped with chile-lime sauce, red cabbage, and pico de gallo. It was flavorful, well-balanced, and one of my favorites from the meal. I also had the Carne Asada Street Tacos with pico de gallo added, and they were simple, fresh, and delicious. Another favorite was the Blackened Salmon Taco. The blackened salmon paired perfectly with the jalapeño sauce, red cabbage, charred corn, and cilantro, making every bite full of flavor. I also ordered the Chicken Rice Bowl, which came with pico de gallo, charred corn, crema, and guajillo sauce. It was filling, well-seasoned, and a great option if you're looking for something other than tacos. To top it all off, I tried one of their margaritas. They offer them frozen or on the rocks, and I highly recommend the frozen version--it was refreshing and the perfect pairing with the meal. The service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and everything exceeded my expectations.
