We recently completed a pool project with Thunderbird Pools (April 2026), and had a very positive experience and are extremely happy with the final result. We interviewed 10 different pool companies before making our decision, and Thunderbird Pools ultimately delivered exactly what we were looking for on time, and on budget! The design process was outstanding from the very beginning. Jeff Hyler (our designer) was incredibly knowledgeable, creative, and professional. During the very first onsite visit, he measured the space and produced an initial design complete with pricing and visual renderings. That immediate concept helped us clearly understand what was possible within our budget and set Thunderbird apart from every other company we interviewed. None of the other vendors offered anything close to the same level of interactive design capability or onsite visualization tools, and it made an excellent first impression. After comparing proposals from multiple pool builders, including pricing, pool size, and features, we ultimately chose Thunderbird Pools because of the quality of the design process, our confidence in the team, the professionalism of the company and staff, and the overall value offered. The showroom in Surprise offered various color options and the designer Jeff was extremely helpful in making selections! Before construction and permitting began, communication was excellent. Once the project started, Joe Hernandez was onsite regularly and did an exceptional job overseeing the subcontractors and maintaining quality control. His experience was obvious, and he consistently paid attention to details, communicated expectations clearly, and kept the project moving efficiently. We always felt confident that the schedule, workmanship, and overall project quality were being managed closely. We were also impressed with the subcontractors Thunderbird used throughout the project. They were skilled, professional, punctual, and worked efficiently according to the company's online schedule and project portal. They never left construction debris when they were done and tried to keep the area very clean. Thunderbird's internal project managers also communicated consistently through phone calls and emails, keeping us informed during each phase of construction. Overall, the company demonstrated excellent organization, communication, and project management from start to finish. Most importantly, the project stayed within our target budget, and the overall construction process went smoothly in the timeline anticipated. After completion, Brandon Thompson handled the equipment startup, testing, and training process. Brandon was outstanding , highly knowledgeable about all the pool systems, thorough in testing functionality, and extremely helpful with maintenance and scheduling recommendations. He not only completed the initial startup and training but also returned multiple times afterward to ensure everything was operating perfectly and to answer any additional questions we had. In the end, the project was completed on time, on budget, and exceeded our expectations. With just a little more upfront clarity regarding owner's site pre-grading responsibilities and protection of existing property during construction, the experience would have been beyond expectations. We had a pool installed by Thunderbird that was completed in December of 2023. Overall, the experience has been annoying and stressful. A lot of re-work for work that was not done correct the first time, messes being left in the yard, and poor communication. Now the cool decking is starting to lift. I notified Thunderbird about this weeks ago and included several pictures. I took the day off work to be here for the concrete company to do the work, two guys showed up, took pictures and left. Something that should have been enjoyable has turned out to be regrettable. Do your research before signing a contract with this company. read more

AMAZING company. I interviewed 5 companies and I was impressed with Thunderbird Pools. They were not the most inexpensive and did not have the fastest build time but got pictures over to me immediately. Riley our salesperson was very responsive to all our questions and changes. From permit to final finish, it was about 3 months and it was my fault it was stalled 2 weeks. Our pool was completed in November and since then we have had a few questions and they have always been addressed immediately. We emailed them yesterday because we couldn't get our water feature to turn on and Jennifer our warranty specialist set up an appointment immediately. Brandon the pool technician came out and it was a small switch that was moved and in a minute our feature was working. I am super impressed with EVERYONE from Thunderbird Pools from the helpful owners to the receptionist. We are enjoying our pool and love how it turned out. read more

Good Value, Would Recommend Highlights 1. The finished pool looks nice and the equipment functions well. 2. The price was better than the competitors we checked with. 3. The construction team and company owners are fantastic. We encountered a problem in the middle of the dig where the concrete footer of a city aquaduct extended into our yard and interfered with the pool. They collaborated with us to adjust the dimensions and location of the pool on the spot and signed a new plan with us in a matter of hours, without charging us an extra penny in the process. 4. The construction team also recommended a change to the light positions based on their experience and offered to implement it for free (no change order fees). Their advice was good and the lighting is better than it would have been. Lowlights 1. During the design phase, we worked with another company at the same time to get competing final designs and price quotes. The design experience with Thunderbird was alright and we ultimately got what we wanted out of it, but the design experience with the competitor was superior. Thunderbird took a lot more back-and-forth to get our design and upgrade preferences understood and correctly drafted compared to the other designer. The thunderbird designer appeared to lack comparable expertise. 2. Before the pool was filled, they offered to replace any of the coping tiles we didn't like. We selected two, and they said they would be replaced before the pool was filled. This did not happen and we are still waiting for them to replace that coping two months later. 3. We were left with construction debris on the site and flecks of the pool cement stuck to our window after the shotcrete process. Other Notes 1. This review does not apply to Thunderscapes, which is the landscaping arm of the company. We did not use their landscapers because the pricing was unreasonably high. read more

From the initial quote/design (we worked with David, he really listened and was so detailed) - to making our selections - to breaking ground - all the way to filling the pool. Michelle during intake and HOA paperwork, Anel through construction and now Britni who is ensuring our start up is running smooth. The final product is beautiful. Every issue has been resolved by thunderbird pools. The fifth star I am holding back due to mediocre communication, sometimes we wouldn't see anyone all week. I am sure, however, we have a good product and this pool company is not going anywhere anytime soon like some fly by night companies. I have been eagerly awaiting writing the review since we started working with Thunderbird. We had just come off a terrible experience with our home builder, so Thunderbird was a breathe of fresh air! From the very beginning, things with Thunderbird just felt different. It felt as if they listened and cared more about us and our dream backyard than any of the other builders we interviewed. Chris, our designer, was TREMENDOUS to communicate with and to answer our many questions and concerns. As soon as we saw the first rendering of the backyard we were hooked as Chris NAILED it. Hot tub, water features, firepit, Baja shelf, travertine tile surround, in-water seating/benches, the list went on and on. Chris and everyone from Thunderbird did an amazing job laying out any and all steps as well as communicating along the way so we were never surprised during the entire build. A few minor tweaks from us in making the pool and hot tub bigger and away we went. Thunderbird is a finely run company and once we got permits, it rolled through to completion. We have spoken with three neighbors who all waited 3-4 months for shotcrete and had rough experiences who all went with other builders. We feel awful for them and feel bad expressing just how well our build went. I have reached out to Cohl already a few times to explain how impressed we have been for his team. We are now extremely delighted to be able to share our experience publicly. I'm sure I will leave someone out, and THANK YOU is enough. Buying a pool is stressful. You cannot simply return & exchange or throw it away. After did some research, met with several sales people. I decided to trust my gut feeling and choose Thunderbird pools. They didn't give me the cheapest estimate, they didn't promise me something too good to be true. The most important is, if I have questions or concerns they respond to me quickly and try their best to help. It matters to me that I don't have to wait for days or weeks to get a callback. I had this company out to quote a pool installation, but was very disappointed with the outcome. The older gentleman that arrived was nice enough, but when he asked what I was interested in his response was "that's not what you want". He explained that he's sold swim spa's before, but customer were later disappointed. If he'd ask why I wanted one I could have told him I had one in my previous home and loved it. I just thought it was odd he'd start out telling what I didn't want, so I didn't bother to explain. We talked about options, and he seemed to continue to steer me to towards the concept he had in mind. I finally told him quote what vision I'm asking for and on the option he thought best. He again told me my option was going to be far more expensive (not sure why that would turn his company off). He promised me a response in the next couple of days. Two weeks went by and no response from him or his company. I finally called to see what the issue was, the person I spoke with acted shocked that I hadn't heard back because the salesman was always so fast. He promised to reach out to him, and that I would hear back in no less than a day. That was over a month ago, and still no word. I have contracted with another pool company who I will review at completion of the job scheduled for late September. Needless to say I would not have gone with Thunderbird anyway after the two no responses, but it's sad they didn't care enough to respond to me. read more

Id rate 4.5 stars if I could! So you don't have to read the entire review, overall our experience with Thunderbird was better than expected and we will use them again at our next home. We have recommended them to friends and our home builder to use on their future projects as well. We built our home a few years ago so we are pretty familiar with what construction and builds entail. I will say we prepared for the worst and were pleasantly surprised that the entire experience was much better than expected. To be completely transparent there were a few hiccups along the way. Working with Josh on our design, he caught a few errors from an employee that is no longer there but was able to correct immediately. Our Ficus trees were burned by the excavators exhausted during the initial dig and had minor damage throughout the project. That being said, our trees are very close to the perimeter of the pool and are recovering just fine.There was also a miscommunication with our UV ozone equipment being backordered and we were not advised until the day they came to start up the pool. Thunderbird was on top of refunding that money until the part arrives. There were several things Thunderbird did that seem small but were game changing: * After removing the back wall for the initial dig, Ben our super had his team come out the next day and rebuild the wall and rehang the gate. This was HUGE being we had 2 weeks old baby, large dogs, and back an alley. *The crews made sure to clean up any messes at the end of each day. *Ben and Cynthia managed to get the last few items on the schedule to have the yard complete for a small family gathering we were having. *Nicholle and Taylor were also great to work with. Everyone was very kind and mindful of us having a newborn at the house. The overall consideration on their part was greatly appreciated. The quality of their work is 5 star. I was home with the baby during the entire build and was able to see the skill, effort, and care that each trade put into their work. They took their time and made sure it was done right! I recently moved into a new build, with a large dirt patch called the backyard. I did some shopping for a company to design, build and provide ongoing service for my dream backyard, within the budget that I has allotted for phase one and future plans for next phases. I connected with thunderbird, with deflated hopes from conversations and treatment from other companies. I was immediately put at ease; I felt heard and respected from the get go. Tim, our designer, is incredible. He took time to learn my household and how we actually "live", designing our backyard project to reflect who we are and how we would use it. I am extremely impressed with our project from beginning to end. Tim McGee has incredible vision and incorporated all the elements we wanted in our backyard pool and landscaping design. Once our county permits were approved the process was quick and effortless. Thunderbird Pools took care of everything and communicated well throughout. This is not the final product. We still have to fill the pool and put in landscaping. We also contracted landscaping with Thunderscapes, which I also recommend for a seamless project. We started quoting pools with in August of 2022. Comparing the design experience, pricing, and communication to the other companies made Thunderbird an easy winner and we signed a final contract in September. Michele was super responsive to our many emails and questions throughout the entire process. Engineering and permitting was the longest portion of our project and required some design changes but once we had approval Thunderbird made us feel like a priority in breaking ground. We had heard horror stories of year long waits and had a friend four months into the wait for shotcrete so we were hesitant, but our project moved pretty quickly. Our only concern was at this point with communication issues from the office about the status of our jobs and necessary changes. Joe and Tony were at the job site very frequently and were amazing about addressing any concerns we had and communicating where we were at and our next steps. Genuinely would have been sold on going with Thunderbird just from the care they put into their jobs and how happy the crews seemed to be working for them. We have been in our pool for a month now and have had a great experience with Britni and Brandon addressing any minor flaws or repairs through the 30 day inspection period. Travis has been servicing our pool and sends a text in advance so we know when to expect someone, brings any punchlist items we may have missed to our attention, and kept everything beautiful.
