Great location. Sit in balcony if you can. Food was good. We got the sliders and the New Mexican burger. Service was very nice. Thanks Willie. And nice who i presume was the owner stopped by tables to check in. Nice touch. Worth the fun view.

lovely place that has a full bar and lovely lunch menu... Worthwhile stop.

We came in two separate times while in Santa Fe- thank you to bartender Rick for a great experience! He was super friendly and made a yummy prickly pear margarita!

We popped in here for an afternoon Margarita to kick off the Margarita trail of Santa Fe. My Margarita was a classic with fresh lime, so it was tart and tasty. Our server was quick. We got to sit on the cute little balcony patio that overlooks the plaza. Apparently it's the only one! But holy cow we got the check and the margarita was $18.50. It was just your normal margarita. I understand tourist pricing is generally higher, but yikes! $18.50 is next level.

Second time here! We stop in for beers and frito pie and a really great patio seat overlooking the plaza. Love it here. Good service decent prices.

First time visit to Thunderbird. Suuuper good food. We all got something different that suited our tastes. The very best part of our experience was our server, Isaiah, who was friendly and engaging throughout our visit. Thanks, you rock!

A Disappointing Shift After Years of Loyalty I've been coming to Thunderbird Bar and Grill since December 2012, and over the years, it has become a staple for me in Santa Fe. The outdoor patio overlooking the Plaza has always been one of my favorite spots, and I've consistently enjoyed the friendly service, yummy food, warm smiles, and welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience today--June 29, 2025--was a stark departure from the standard I've come to expect. My husband and I arrived around 3:00 PM, during a quiet time with very few other guests present. We were greeted with a smile by a gentleman at the front and specifically requested a booth, which he said was fine. While I stepped away to use the restroom, my husband was approached by another staff member--who turned out to be the bartender--and was abruptly told we could not sit there. When my husband politely explained we had already received approval, the bartender responded in a rude and dismissive tone: "Well now I'm telling you that you can't." When I returned and was informed of what had happened, I approached the bartender to clarify. He responded with the same condescending attitude. I asked another staff member to speak with a manager, and I was told that the bartender was, in fact, the manager on duty. This kind of treatment was deeply upsetting, especially given our long history with the restaurant. I'm not seeking anyone's removal from their position, but I do expect those in leadership roles to model professionalism and respectful communication. Authority should never be used to diminish a guest's experience. Unless I receive a direct response from management or ownership acknowledging this incident and outlining how it will be addressed, I will not be returning to Thunderbird. I believe in accountability, growth, and second chances--but today, for the first time in over a decade, I left Thunderbird feeling disrespected and disappointed. -- A once-loyal patron

Only dropped by for a few drinks on the balcony and it was wonderful! Sadly we already had dinner plans.. but all of the tables next to us seemed pleased

Food was delicious but the service is sloooooooow, no refills, had to waive a waiter down to get another drink.

We visited Thunderbird Bar and Grill for a quick bite on a weekday afternoon. It was not crowded, and we opted to eat inside because the patio was a bit warm. It was not a good experience, more of a disappointment. Service was slow and inattentive, and we had to ask for drinks and refills more than once. We got the trio of dips and chips, which consisted of tortilla chips, guacamole, salsa and queso. The chips were decent, the guacamole was not seasoned well, the salsa was pretty good, the queso not so much. It's a nice space with a long bar, TVs, etc. Perhaps the service and food were not up to par because it was slow. It was hard to tell. We don't need to go back!

The food was very good. Service was a little slow but it was very busy so all in all, good service. We got the mole enchiladas which had really good flavor and unique corn tortilla, would totally order again. Also a pulled pork sandwich, little messy but hey, messy is good!!! Finally also got a burger which had really good seasoning and flavor.

After walking around several churches and shopping places, we came here hungry and thirsty! The good- smelling host led us to an outdoor seating overlooking a park. Service is excellent- she made sure we had everything we needed. Lastly, the food was divine. Check out my pictures- enjoy! 4.8 stars!

Just call it mango juice because that is what it was. The only bright spot of the entire meal was our waiter. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely great. I ordered the barbacoa plate, which came with four incredibly tiny tacos and beans. For $22, I was honestly shocked at how little meat was in each taco. Maybe a tablespoon at most. On top of that, the barbacoa had so many burnt pieces that they completely overpowered the flavor. I could barely taste anything besides char. I only finished it because I was starving. The beans were somehow even worse. They tasted like plain boiled beans with absolutely no seasoning. Not even salt. My girlfriend ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole for $28, and they were just as disappointing. It was basically two tiny rolled tortillas with the chicken sitting next to them instead of inside them. It made no sense. The mole sauce was decent, but it leaned much sweeter than savory. The only thing we left talking about was how disappointed we were. For the prices they charge, the portions and quality were nowhere close to worth it. We actually stopped at the Valero down the street afterward so I could grab a Milky Way ice cream because I was still hungry. That ended up being the best part of the night. Restaurant was beautiful too I guess.

The shrimp and the vegetable appetizers were kind of ehhh. I did love the green chile stew. The enchiladas were good but nothing special. I also got a paloma and it was strong. Definitely tasted mezcal but not much of the other flavors. Also, they corrected their mistake but I did call in a reservation. It took three phone calls on two different days. The person who picked up took my reservation but apparently did NOT record it in their reservation book. When we got there our reservation was no where to be found and even worse, the hostess said this had been happening a few times but they didn't know who was taking these reservations and not writing them down. Now if it was a one off, I'm just unlucky, but if you're telling me it's an issue, I think it's something management should really work harder on solving. The hostess was nice enough to be like you'll be our first priority for seating if any reservations don't show up and we were able to get a table fairly quickly which I really do appreciate. Other than that one staff issue with the reservation, the other staff were all amazing and our waitress came by a few times to check in on us and her and other staff came around to refill water.

The red has that deep, earthy flavor with just the right kick, while the green brings a brighter, roasted heat that balances everything out. Together? That classic "Christmas style" combo that hits on every level. The masa was soft and flavorful (not dry like you get at some places), and the filling was generous and well-seasoned. The sides sealed the deal--fluffy Spanish rice, hearty beans, and a fresh, crisp salad that cut through the richness perfectly. Portion size was solid, presentation was clean, and everything tasted like it was made with care--not rushed, not watered down for tourists. The atmosphere is upscale and beautiful--love the decor and artwork. The service was on point; our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food this time was just ok, except for the Sopa de Amor: Chef Olea's signature soup--that was heaven in our mouths. The steak (Popocatepetl: spicy black pepper crusted aged angus beef tenderloin / red cabbage and snow peas in cilantro vinaigrette / jasmine rice) we shared looked nothing like the description. Either our server was clueless regarding gluten-free, because this wasn't up to our standards for a high-end restaurant--the flavor wasn't the same as we remembered from several years ago, and the steak (medium rare) inside was colder--not room temperature, so I ended up not eating all of mine. Plus we had to ask for rice--which should have come with our meal since there isn't flour or any ingredients that would have made this harmful to me. Also, the side of asparagus it came with wasn't bright green and crispy--it was yellowish and flimsy-looking and tasting. For the price, this should have been more on point than what it was. We had split a steak, shared a soup, had a bottle of wine, two glasses of champagne, and a dessert--oh, and a $12 split change (something they suggested--even though my partner and I were fine eating from the same plate)...the bill was almost $400 with tax & tip. The dessert however, was presented beautifully with mixed berries and a liquor which was then lit on fire--a festive dessert option since I have a gluten allergy. There are so many wonderful restaurants. Unfortunately, the food did not leave us craving to come back for more. If the service and decor wasn't so impressive, Sazon would have received one stars.
