Salmon Bowl
Sean C.

To start with great is really enjoyed the views and has a good selection of beers. The food was a little underwhelming though. The salmon was overcooked on the outside but luckily wasn't dry. There also wasn't much flavor to anything in the bowl besides the salmon so really needed the siracha and soy sauce I was putting on it.

Beer flight! (4 for $12)

Checked out this brewery after a hike in the gorge and was not disappointed! Super friendly staff and nice interior restaurant. We opted to sit outside in their beer garden (seat yourself area). Got a hard Agua Fresca (so refreshing and delicious) and a beer flight. Standouts were the Festbier and the Witibier. Also the "small" side of sweet potato fries was a great value, loved how thin and crispy they were and appreciated all the sauces you could choose to go with them. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

Nice restaurant with lots of seating options. Outside seating has a nice view of the mountains and river. I got the pear and beet salad which was delicious. The service was quick and nice. Lots of trails around the area!

We stopped in for lunch and a beer today and had a great time. View was excellent. Beer was outstanding. Food and service was excellent as well. I want to come back again when the weather is warmer to enjoy the outside area. Definitely recommend.

Jamaica Cider is sweet NOT tart.

Delicious food and drink, had and bacon jam burger which was fantastic but could of been made better with added bleu cheese. Also had the patty melt with onions and added grilled mushrooms yummy with added extra thousand island dressing. Worth the stop for beer or food or both. Know that the Jamaica Cider is sweet NOT tart. Good if you want sweet. Not what I expected but my husband liked it.

Solid stop to rest, eat, drink, and take in the beautiful views. They have a fantastic beer selection and highly recommend the Thunder Isand Lager. The food all looked good, reasonably priced, and they also serve what seems like a rotating soup. Today was a fresh caught Salmon Chowder, however, didnt get to taste it but sounded delish! The Bacon Jam Burger was pretty tasty, however, the star of the show believe it or not were the fries! We went during the week on a Wednesday and it also being in the off-season, we were able to get seated immediately. I can imagine this place gets packed during the summer months as the place is pretty big and they also have a tented area by the parking lot.

Buffalo cauliflower

Loved the buffalo cauliflower! Would 10000% order again. My friend had a Ruben which was great. Only problem was the tofu bowl. The tofu was oddly grilled and hard to chew, the bowl was dry at first because all the dressing was at the bottom. Tried to mix into the bowl but the dressing was also overly acidic for my taste. Great beers, great views, great atmosphere. Would go again!

Great place to stop in, grab a flight of beers, some great food and enjoy the outdoors! Ample patio seating on the sun deck. Stunning views of the river and mountains. Perfect rest stop while on an afternoon car or bike adventure. Inside bar seats available too. Staff is welcoming and attentive. Delicious food options including vegan choices. Happy travels!!

Boglag, Hazy, Blonde

Busy nice location for an afternoon bite and beer with friends. Ample seating indoor and outdoor. Helpful staff. Got the Hazy (Rivers, Rails, and something?) and tasted the Boglag and a Blonde (Singing in the Rain?). All very tasty but for sure liked my hazy the best, flavorful but light and not overpowering. Also ordered the poutine and my group really loved it. Crispy fries, yummy savory gravy, could be even more cheese curds but what was there tasted good.

Nice outdoor seating space, not such great food & beer.

I was really surprised by how completely average this place was. We sat outside and the vibe with folks & their dogs seemed like a great place to be. However, the food was really average at best. Burger was standard, fries were not that great. The IPA I ordered was passable but nothing special. Finally, service was very slow though the place was not even half full. We eventually had to get up and find someone to check out when our waiter disappeared. I admit, I saw some negative reviews, but the logo looked cool & I wanted to snag some souvenir package goods on my road trip. Unfortunately, this wasn't' the place.

Bacon Jam Burger
Amanda V.

My first visit to Thunder Island Brewing was both delicious and eventful. The Bacon Jam Burger was excellent, even if a little messy. The fries were perfect, including the sweet potato fries I stole from my friend. The strawberry cider was cold and hit the spot. As for the eventful part - I wish I knew our waitress's name, in order to give her proper credit. We saw a small child who was only partially dressed running down the side street towards the main road, in the rain. Without a second thought, our waitress ran outside, swooped him up, and brought him inside. She contacted the bar owner, who brought clean clothes and diapers for the child. No frantic parent/s came looking for this child, and by the time we left, a sheriff's deputy had arrived. Turns out our waitress is a superhero, and it's not every day you get a great meal served by a superhero. Head up to Cascade Locks to get yours!

Excuse the bad photo of the burger I forgot to take the picture before eating cuz i was so hungry. But the bacon jam wagyu burger was 10/10! I would definitely come back for their burgers!! The sweet potatoes were also fire, freshly made in house. Their jamaica cider is also very refreshing and better than any cider I've ever had since it's not sweet and brewed to perfection. They are dog friendly but the outdoor patio heater was broken but in the summer it won't be a problem. Bring a blanket or thick jacket if you are sitting outside to enjoy the view since it gets pretty windy. Everyone is also very nice here.

Their west coast pilsner is to die for, one of the best beers I had while visiting Portland!

This is a brewery in an area without many breweries nearby and close to trails filled with thirsty hikers. What I'm getting at, is that even if they were phoning-it-in and brewing passable beer, it would still be highly rated. This place doesn't NEED to brew amazing beer. But, dear reader, this place DOES brew amazing beer. Their West Coast Pilsner was one of the best beers I've had this year. Crisp, Clean, and Tropical. It's similar to a beer I brew that I call "Tropical Depression Pils". The food is good, but not great. It's typical brewpub fare. But if you've just hiked a ton of miles, it's the perfect treat.

Full Sail is a very well respected micro brewery, founded in 1987 and the first craft brewery in the Pacific Northwest to bottle its beer. It's flagship Amber has won numerous awards, including recently in 2025 a Gold Medal at the NY International Beer Competition (along with the brewery being named Oregon Brewery of the Year). It has a large line-up of beers brewed inhouse There is a large paid parking lot across the street at $1.25 per hour, payable via credit card through nearby kiosks. Once entering, there is a long hallway, walking past the working areas of the brewery, until getting to the restaurant area. It has views of I-84, and further the Columbia River. The outdoor patio was not open (drizzling outside), and it was pretty crowded inside but we got lucky to be seated at a table near windows with a view. There have lunch and happy hour specials during weekdays. The lunch special is 1/2 of a sandwich (grilled cheese this day) along with a cup of their soup of the day (tomato). I was super excited about the Amber, so got a pint of that ($8) and pint of the Queen Wheat ($8). My wife enjoyed the Queen Wheat but didn't care for the Amber. I really liked the Amber, making me realize why I had drunk so much of that style earlier in my life when in Wisconsin, before switching over to wheat beer. There selection of beer is great, and a flight is the way to go ($18 of 6 5oz samplers). Buffalo Hot Wings ($17) - a decent amount of simply deep fried hot wings in a classic Frank's red hot buffalo sauce. Pretzel Bread Sticks ($13) - 4 large, warmed pretzels. Should have gotten the beer cheese to go with it. Salmon Fish & Chips ($20) - 3 small pieces of beer battered salmon, very dense and definitely tasting of wild caught salmon. It came with good fries and a really good, fresh cole slaw. There is a small refrigerator stocked with cans of certain beers for sale. Unfortunately, we were dismissively told that they were out of the Amber bottles for sale. So after our meal, went to the front to purchase directly from the front staff. Their Japanese rice beer from their Session lineup ($10 for a six pack) was available and what we brought back home with us.

Lots of tastings and great historical facts along the way. - The soaking pools at night were perfect to relax muscles right before bed plus no kids after 8pm. - This hotel doesn't revolve around children. The Highlights * The Saltwater Outdoor Pool: This was the absolute highlight of our stay. The water is kept at a perfect 38°C (100°F), making it incredibly relaxing. I highly recommend visiting after 8:00 PM when the pool becomes an 21+ area. * Thoughtful Details: The robes provided were high quality and very comfortable. Pro-tip: Be sure to bring flip-flops for the walk to and from the pool area. * Art & Dining: The murals throughout the hotel are fascinating to look at. We also had great experiences at the on-site bars and the Black Rabbit Restaurant, where both the food and the service were excellent. The Room & Stay Quality We specifically booked a room with a private bathroom and shower. However, most rooms at this location utilize communal facilities. Unfortunately, our room was located very close to the shared bathrooms and lavatories. Due to a complete lack of etiquette from other guests using those facilities, it was extremely noisy throughout the night. Because of the poor sleep quality and the noise levels, we likely won't be staying here again. It's a beautiful property, but the layout and noise issues made it difficult to fully enjoy our birthday celebration.

The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough.
