The Food was great! The Service was slow, but servers friendly. Their QR code to the menu & ordering is a bit confusing. We ordered from a server, then beer from the QR code. Stopped in there this week with some friends for lunch. It was sunny so we sat outside. The food and beer was excellent! We had burritos, pork sandwich, burgers, and salad. My husband I got takeout here last night. I had the cowboy salad with BBQ chicken. The salad and dressing were very good, however, the chicken was incredibly dry. Our first time visiting, decided to try the new brewery. It was a Friday afternoon about 2 pm. We got seated right away and our order was taken promptly. The beer was very good. The food however, took about an hour to get once we ordered. When it arrived the fries were cold, ugh. The place wasn't overly crowded, so I'm not sure what happened. We told the waitress, who apologized and told us we've been busy. The food was tasty, but the portions aren't very big for the price. The place has promise, just needs better management. read more

We visited many breweries over the course of the trip and this was towards the end, so perhaps we were a little tired of beer....... but based on the reviews I was expecting to like it more than we did. Nothing was bad, just ok. We tried the taster tray, and nothing really jumped out at us as something we would want to try again. We didn't have food so I can't comment on that. After taking the dam tour at Bonneville we realized we were a little hungry. Checked yelp for something close by and this place looked promising. It's tucked away at the end of a gravel road but google maps got me there ok. There are several picnic tables outdoors and some indoor seating. Water is readily available via serve yourself coolers. Being caught between lunch and dinner we didn't want to eat too much so food wise we only got the nachos and salmon dip appetizers which I would say was pretty standard and not exceedingly mind blowing. Portion size was good. I unfortunately didn't sample any of the beers. The gem though is the view from the outdoor seating area. It's beautiful as all the pictures will show. Tucked away off the main drag of Cascade Locks their location has an awesome view of the Columbia River. It almost makes you forget (not that one would ever want to /s) that they are in Cascade Locks. The combination of giant fir trees nearby and table umbrellas covers most of the picnic tables outside in shade, but a couple tables were left in the sun if you're into that sort of thing. They seem to have a good system of lining people up at the counter to order either beer or food and beer. The counter was not busy enough when I was there for this to play a role in my ordering experience, but I do appreciate the forethought and recognition of a potentially bad line/ordering situation. It was fairly hot out when I was there so I only tried the hefe and the cream ale. Both were solid summer beers; easy to drink. I'm not ready to throw a fifth star in there only because I didn't have a full meal. I love this place! I recently discovered it after a hike and ended up staying and enjoying the bar for a couple of hours. My bartender and server, Parker, did a great job recommending the hummus plate to me and a great pale ale. I also tried a kolsch that was really refreshing and light, a perfect dessert to my meal. We were a little surprised about the size (smaller than expected for a shareable plate) and that there were only chips topped with cheese and other condiments but no refried black beans under the chips to dip. They were out of sour cream as well. We were hoping for something more substantial. So I originally wrote a more scathing review and the above is now the modified version. Pulled pork or mushroom based sandwiches, ribs (just starting these, it's a work in progress) a couple more entrees, kid choices, and appetizers. Beer choices were nice when we stopped in. Pale, IPA, stout and few other dark brews. Should be able to find something you like well enough. They also had a couple wines and ciders, but I didn't try any. It's off down an odd road past a museum for the old lock that's here, but don't balk at the location (if they haven't moved when you read this). The view from this spot is fantastic. Currently, a brewery right on the Columbia with a front seat view to the river and gorge when sitting outside on the park benches. Inside is an industrial brewery with several seats and a small bar. Friendly service from Amber and other staff, eager to help you find the right beer and food. Recently I ordered the pear salad with goat cheese and candied walnuts. It was amazing. The beers here are above the level. I love them. They stand with the best of the gorge breweries. Wait til next year and they open a new facility a couple blocks up the hill. Big fan of the old location...always thought it was a gem. Just tried the new spot and it's a total miss. Felt like a chain restaurant. The view was better at the old spot. The service was better at the old spot. And the food was better at the old spot. Not sure why they changed the menu but it's not good. Ordered something from the menu solely based on the picture on their website...and it came missing everything in the picture. False advertising?? I'm all for change but usually it's for the better. The new Thunder Island Brewery is missing everything that made it unique and fun. After all these years it's sad to have this spot be a hard pass for me.
