What an awesome watch store! I exchanged emails beforehand regarding getting my automatic watch fixed, and had to swing by as they were closing. They were so nice and stayed open a few minutes later to allow me the time to get there, and now my watch is back to great working condition after the winding rotor was fixed. Got a watch battery for my Tag replaced with a pressure test; in and out in 10 minutes. Battery is supposed to last about a year. The one thing I'm slightly hesitant about is that when I asked about longer-lasting batteries, I was told that all watch batteries are the same and last for about a year. I have no idea whether or not this is true but I'm fairly certain that my previous watch batteries have lasted over 2 years. read more

I am a HUGE Throckmorton's supporter. And here's a long story about why: So, I received a $100 amethyst necklace as a gift last Christmas. It came from that store that everyone's supposed to be really impressed by. ("He went to J_ _ _ _!") So, not only did my chain break (my fault), but one of the amethysts fell out (!) I went back there to get it fixed, and to get a ring sized, and this is what they wanted to charge me: $20.99 to resize the ring, $52.98 to fix the stone, and $17.99 to fix the chain. Or something like that. That's $91.96 total! $73 of that is to directly fix something that only costs $100 new!!!! When I scoffed, they said that they were "competitive" and "the little guys just send your jewelry out for repairs anyway, and we can do your stuff on premises." Well, that freaked me out. I mean, how could a "little guy" stay in business if he wasn't an excellent and reputable jewelry maker and repairer? So, I took my stuff and went to Throckmorton's on Saturday afternoon. Not only is his store super-neato (he has all kinds of beautiful stones and stuff everywhere), but he was also honest, knowledgable, and fair. He quoted me $12 for the ring resizing and $48 to fix the necklace. That's INLCUDING the stone AND the chain. He originally asked for a week to complete the work. I told him that was fine, but I was very eager to get the ring back as quickly as possible. He ended having both projects done by Tuesday!!!! Next thing that makes him awesome is this: I called Wednesday to find out what time they close. 6pm. I told his wife that I was in traffic and would be late. She said they would wait for me until about 6:15 so I could get my stuff that day. How AMAZING is that?!!?!?!?!?! They did a WONDERFUL job on my jewelry. They even cleaned and polished both pieces for free...a service that J_ _ _ _ wanted to charge me like $20 each for. The service was fantastic, the workmanship is bar-none, and the pricing was fair, reasonable, and worth it. I've told many of my friends and family about Throckmorton's already, and now I'm telling you. If you need ANY jewelry repair, I would HIGHLY recommend Throckmorton's to ANYONE. read more

Wow! This place is an example of how a business should be run. It's nice to do business with an owner who knows his craft, understands his customers and provides a great experience. David, the owner and watchmaker, is certified and trained to work on all the big name watches (Patek Phillippe, Omega, Rolex, etc.). Unlike the other places in town he does not jack up the prices for the better brands. As an example, my Omega Seamaster needed its 5 year service. Omega wanted $900, Russell Korman wanted $950, and other shops wanted the same kind of price. I would never pay that much because the watch only cost $2300 brand new. As an added bonus David polished alll the scratches out of my watch and even polished the watch band. Wow, I've never seen any other watchmaker provide that level of service. David charged me $216 for the 5 year service. I like doing business where the owner makes a decent profit and I get great service. Throckmorton's is that kind of place. Another thing I like about the store is that the prices on new items are very reasonable. I have brought my young sons there several times and let them spend their allowance on kid watches. The store also has a very nice selection of fossils and jewelry. The girls who work there are very nice and are extra helpful about explaining the different items. They work well with kids and are patient with children. If you're looking for a place where you get great service and good prices go to Throckmorton's. There is plenty of free parking. read more

Throckmorton's Watch Repair has the absolute best watch repair around. My store takes all of our Rolex and finer watches to David when they need to be serviced or repaired. The prices are excellent and the work is exceptional! They have a lazer welder for ultra-fine jewelry repairs. They have a super-high-tech engraver that will engrave on just about anything. They have some nice watches and neat jewelry for sale too. Plus they are just all nice folks to work with. As a watch collector for over 30 years, I've come to find out the hobby absolutely requires the services of a good watchmaker. Much of my collecting interest is focused on Rolex watches; for which the repair cost is usually substantial, especially when using the Rolex Service Centers. And, like all large corporations, it is impossible to know who will work on your watch when it is sent in for repair or refurbishment. This brings me to David Throckmorton. David is a local guy with over 30 years of watch making experience. He is a true "watchmaker" not a repair guy hacker. His work for me has been impeccable. He has completed all work as promised, on time, and on budget. He takes a strong personal interest in his work, which shows up in the finished product. This place has great reviews so you might wonder why I give it only 2 stars. My experience with Throckmorton's is limited but I did visit them for a jewelry repair based on all of these great reviews. I just needed a silver chain repaired on a necklace that has sentimental value.It breaks regularly and so I have had it repaired more than a few times. I previously lived in S. Calif.. and need I say that everything is more expensive there. I had it repaired several times at a jewelry shop in Laguna Beach. Much to my surprise, Throckmorton;s charged about 25% more than I paid for the repairs in Laguna. Yes, they repaired it but I found the charge rather high ($18 vs. $12 in LB).Petty, I know,it's sort of petty, but I felt ripped off. read more

Throckmorton's engraved a watch for me recently and I was very happy with the service. The store doesn't have a huge amount of floor space but what they do have in the way of watches and jewelry has been well chosen and beautifully displayed. The store itself is very modern, clean and comfortable. They also carry a few (very tasteful) odds and ends such as a nice collection of Swiss Army knives and a collection of fossils in various sizes for display. The owners and the engraver were very nice and helpful. The engraving turnaround time was less than 48 hours and they called me right when they said they would to let me know it was ready. The job itself was beautifully done and even the protective peel plastic that had to be removed was replaced onto the watch back once the engraving was done (the watch was new and right out of the box when I brought it to them). I also noticed that their engraver must have set the watch to the correct time. I know it's a small touch but it's those little things that separate independent businesses like this one from Brand X at the mall. * Throckmorton's is in the Oak Acres shopping center which will be on your right as you go down the 290 West service road. Look for the green Oak Acres sign with a digital time/temp bank style clock at the top. As you turn into the parking lot Throckmorton's will be on the right side, lower level. read more

My engagement ring was a family heirloom and waaaaay bigger than my tiny fingers. When I took it in to get sides, the staff was very open and honest that given the structure of the ring, downsizing almost 2 sizes could damage the ring, regardless, the jeweler would take a look and report back. Please excuse my 3 reviews and please only read THIS one. Yelp had marked me as a non-recommended review for a very long time and a few times after I went to Throcmorton's I'd want to tell Yelp!!! I knew that they were not showing up due to "not being recommended," so I kept trying because they are so amazing!!! Now, for some reason they released all of my reviews for Throcmorton's as recommended reviews and look silly and redundant. I can't delete or edit the older ones. Sorry for Yelp's stupidity!! And no offense to Yelp users!! My last review was in 2014 and was 5 stars then too. But at that time I had only used them once. I continue to only use Throckmorton's for my jewelry repair needs. I'm so glad I found them right after I moved here from Philly! Finding a good jeweler can be really difficult in some places...like Austin I'm finding. Philly was easy because Jeweler's Row (2nd best compared to New York IMO) is there! Between my weight fluctuating a lot and moving to Austin where my hands are always swelling I've had a lot of jeweling needs. I've used them at least 7 times since I moved here 5 years ago, for ring sizing, checking prongs, broken clasp, heirloom bracelet restoration, and one more cool thing. The other cool thing I don't even know what to call. They put two tiny bars inside of the ring to hold a top-heavy ring in place. They told me about it and I must say I'm dying to get them to do it to a few more rings soon. The one they did it to never moves around twisting on my finger and never upside-down, even when I'm cold...but my ring is sized correctly also! My sister and mother also live in ATX and only use Throckmorton's now also from my awesome experiences. They love Trockmorton's too! My experience with them has always been fair prices with excellent craftsmanship and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. With the repairs I've had (never at a "busy jewelry" time-of-year) it always takes a week or less for even for a restoration to be completed. In this restoration I'm referring to, the jeweler rebuilt the pins and heavy joints and a heavy clasp for a super heavy and thick antique family-heirloom Mexican sterling bracelet from the 1930's. It was my grandmother's bracelet and my mom gave it to me recently. MY MOM AGREED (why in all caps? keep reading) that Throckmorton's should be the place to restore it (the pins were getting thin and the clasp finally broke). My mom (over age 65/lots of experience) has only ever gotten jewelry repaired through the mail with a spectacular shop @ NYC Jeweler's Row that my whole extended family has historically used for their jewelry repairs. Clearly Throckmorton's has even won her over if she trusted them with this heirloom bracelet! There was one hiccup with the bracelet repair. The first time I removed the bracelet, about 2 weeks after the repair, the new clasp broke immediately (internal part of clasp that comes out when opened). I took it back to them and they apologetically but also happily fixed it in one week (I believe there was a physics problem involved) and for free as would be expected. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! The bracelet turned out PERFECT!!! So beautiful and so internally strengthened!!! I wasn't surprised because all of the stuff they do for us turns out perfect. ....but it's always nice to be reassured of a good decision! read more

I found Throckmorton's on Yelp and came in to have my engagement ring adjusted so that there wasn't a space between it and the wedding band. I had the rings fixed and returned within 24 hours (which was a huge relief because I hate being apart from them!!). Everyone was incredibly nice and pricing was reasonable ($30 to have the ring adjusted slightly for size, $40 to have the engagement ring altered slightly to fit better with the band). This is the best Jeweler in Austin. When a prong broke on a ring of mine, most stores were quoting me 100$ and a week for the repair. Throckmortons did it in a day for 20$. It is locally owned and operated and you are always greeted with a smile. They also can make custom wedding bands and do terrific engravings. In all the years I have owned my Rolex, I was always used to the remarks about it being a fine piece but you needed another watch to tell the correct time. And it deserved the reputation as it always ran 2-3 minutes slow every few weeks. Then I had it serviced by David several months ago and I have yet to adjust the time. Really.
