If you want to support businesses who support their employees then Go somewhere else. I went to Throkmorton's for a new watchband on a 2nd hand Oris watch I bought. After waiting a Month for the band it arrived today.I spoke with the manager this morning and she said to come in and they would fit the band to my wrist. When I showed up it turnsed out that they had trimmed the band (rubber so it was cut) to the size of the original band. I couldn't get the original band over my hand. To say I was dissapointed was an understatement. However, what happened next was just appalling. The store manager started in on the sales person that took the order. She belittled the woman for not making notes on the intake record. At that point I stepped up for the woman. I pointed out that it was the manager that told me when I dropped off the watch that they would have me come in to size it. She was the one I talked to earlier in the day who asked me to come in to have it sized. But she continued in on the sales person. Then a gentleman came out from the back room and started in on the sales person. I pointed out to him that there were no notes to trim the watch band. When I came to the defense of his staff that they didn't make a mistake he told me to GET THE FUCK OUT of his store. I took my watch and left. I told hime I was going to have a field day on social media. he said go ahead and he has the video. The video will show that he and his manager blamed an employee for their mistake. Mistakes happen. I understand that. What defines a business or person is how they deal with their mistakes. They tried to make an employee a scapegoat of their mistake. This doesn't sit well with me and as a watch collector I will never do bbusiness with them again read more

I am very happy I found this place via Yelp! I almost dropped off several watches I needed fixed elsewhere, but their pricing was very high and unfair. Thanks to the reviews on here, I decided to give this place a try. I had 4 watches that needed either new batteries, crystal replacement, links taken out, a back popped back on, and a pin replacement. New batteries alone were only $15 and everything else was fair pricing. I dropped off everything on a Saturday afternoon and got a phone call Monday morning saying everything was ready. Update to owner/jeweler update: Thank you kindly jeweler, for restating almost literally everything I have stated in my original review about the process but going above and beyond including the number of sizes it had to go up and the fact that it was pre owned. Yes, it was my grandmother's, and it meant a lot to her and means a lot to me. And yes she had slender fingers while mine resemble sausages. HOWEVER - WHAT does ANY of that have to do with my stone falling out? Welding the ring together (which I acknowledge in my first post and even say I am agreeable to weakens the integrity of the prong? What?) As the reader can tell by your mock up of events mine was spot on. Your mistake, though, is that you WERE NOT THERE on the day David came out and told us it would be reset. Once again I acknowledge all of this in my first review - it was two pieces, needed approval, etc. And As that is my main issue I do not see how you are qualified to comment on that post. Also how can you "assure" me that it was not your fault the stone fell out? You weren't there and you really have no idea what happened and/or whether one extra tiny thing by you would have kept that in. And as you did wonderfully point out about its pre owned nature, why not take an elegant and tasteful opportunity to up sell and suggest we look at prong integrity? (That only applies if the owner himself hadn't told us it would be reset, which he did. Well he said it would be reset IF NEEDED - and obviously it needed.) And according to my fiancée who you have acknowledged is very pleasant, it was another owner or Manager type position that recommended prong work on additional stones and NOT in a response to something he said. Again you were not there so I'm not sure how you are qualified to comment as if the decision was made by you personally. I maintain my position regarding experienced jewelers who KNOW they are working with pre owned stuff that has to go up so so many sizes (so goodness it's already compromised?!) ,as you mentioned, would be aware and thoughtful enough to prevent this problem from occurring. I did ask for a certain date and was told basically if it is ready it will be ready - I was never promised a pick up time or date. EITHER TIME. However you did have it in your custody for almost two weeks and once again given the state of the ring someone familiar (granted must be familiar AND caring) would have at least suggested we take a look. And at that point we could have hashed out financials given what David told us on our first visit. Oh and what was I doing for three weeks between my engagement and the ring falling off? Relaxing because I was on break from classes. Not manual labor or rock climbing or building a fence or something. So given that you personally have just re tipped many of the prongs, including the one that fell out, I should not expect it to fall out again any time soon? Despite it being the smallest of the 15 diamonds on the pre owned ring that had to go up 5 sizes? Thanks for taking the time to finally reply. I'll hope you'll give my second reply more consideration than I feel you gave my first review. And yes - the ring still shines gorgeously, fits perfectly and the young lady at the front was very pleasant. And we probably will stop in again for something else, and try again at some point, out of the kind spirit of the original owner of my beautiful 5x sized up ring. Wow. And I wish I meant that in good way. I wish I had the same experience that all the other reviewers clearly had with Throckmorton's. I did not. I went in to ask an "is it possible to" question knowing that, of course, I couldn't receive a precise answer. Still since a watch business clearly has more experience working with small mechanical parts than I do in the accounting game I thought I'd seek the benefit of his knowledge. My mistake. I got an incredulous "I have no idea" as if I were asking a brain surgeon how to use the pooper-scooper. After a moment, in which he probably took the time to register my reaction to his horse's-ass-like behavior, he did back track a bit telling me that if I wanted to bring the item in he could look at it. I get that a visual with my question would have been helpful, but he wouldn't have been able to see the item over the phone either, and judging by the store's other reviews, he is capable of offering stellar phone service. So even though he did step off of his Put Upon Shop Owner Box and said he'd look at my repair, by then I was over him and doing business. Frankly I'm only coughing up the second star because the are local and because I can't speak to the quality of their merchandise. Obviously I did not make a purchase. read more

They fixed my Tag Heuer Link Chronograph free of charge! i should preface this by saying that I have only written reviews a couple of times on-line. This is one of the rare occasions that I feel that this business needs recognition. My 3 year old Tag Heuer Link Chronograph wasn't autowinding correctly. I took the watch to another jewelry store. They evaluated the watch and performed a "pressure test". The sales person then informed me that it was probably due to the jewels needing oiling. He recommended a routine 3-5 year service of the watch that was going to cost $650 and take 3 weeks to send it out and get it back. I decided to get a second opinion and went to Throckmorton's. The owner, David Throckmorton, examined it for about 5 minutes, took the back off and exclaimed "it's your lucky day!" Turns out that a screw that holds the self-winding gear had come loose and was preventing it from turning correctly. He fixed it and told me "No charge." I asked him about routine service, and he said that they shouldn't need one sooner than 5 years and it would range from $450-550 and that he would do it himself. I highly recommend Throckmorton's. It's locally owned and the proprietor was very helpful and friendly. The only thing he asked for was my repeat business. He will definitely have it if I have need. This is the type of thing that will keep me coming back for years and recommending him to everyone I know that needs jewelry repair. Kudos to customer service and an honest business! read more

I was looking for a place to take my husband's watch for repair after the watch booth at the mall broke it. Yelp lead me to Throckmorton's which was conveniently close to my house. I loved my experience at Throckmorton's! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The shop is small but has a great family vibe. Cool fish tank and geode collection to look at while they are working on your stuff. The owner immediately found out the problem (battery and other parts were backwards and the whole inside was covered in fingerprints.) In a flash, he assembled it correctly, tested it and set it. He also looked up the cost of parts, should it not work again. He did all this for me, a first time customer, for free. I also had him check my engagement ring setting for loose stones since it's nearly 10 years old, and he did that at no charge too. I have another watch that needs a battery and I'm bringing it in tomorrow because I had such a great experience today. Such a wonderful little repair shop and jewelry store! I needed a stone replacement for my vintage amethyst wedding ring and the Throckmorton's team was amazing to work with. Very knowledgeable and talented staff. The stone they got for my replacement is actually even more lovely than the original and the re-tipping they did was very reasonably priced. Chose this place for my engagement ring to be resized and am very happy so far. I also chose them because my ring is palladium and needs a laser to be cut and sized. They have one in-house and do not send jewelry out for lasering. Gallerie quoted me FIVE TIMES the price for the same service because they don't do it in-house. The girls in the store are so nice! David was also very helpful and friendly. I had my ring resized there last week, but the fit wasn't quite right. It fell off in the bed while sleeping and I decided to go a little smaller. David was very nice about it and really just wanted me to be satisfied. He gave lots of advice and said he would try to have it ready the next day, so I wouldn't have to wait over Easter weekend. I am glad I went with a smaller, local store as the customer service is helpful, friendly and personal. Hopefully it will be ready tomorrow, in which case I may write an update :) read more

Was looking for a place to get an engagement ring set sized. Based on all the great reviews I found Thockmorton's online and decided to have them size the set for me. When I dropped the rings off initially I was quoted a 5 day turn around time, which was perfect as I had already planned out when I was going to pop the question. 5 days went by and I went by to pick up the ring and it was not completed yet. Obviously I was very worried, but instantly the owners jumped in and made sure that the ring was taken care of. They even offered to deliver to it me personally to ensure I had the ring on time. This alone is worth the 5 start rating, but it gets better... Lucky for me she said yes, but unfortunately when we had her ring finger sized (not by Thockmorton's) it was done incorrectly and she was about a size to small for the ring. So we brought the ring back to have it retuned to it's original size. The staff was extremely helpful and Mrs. Thockmorton even gave us a discount for having to have the same ring re sized again. This was not necessary of course but another reason why Thockmorton's is such a great establishment. It is rare these days to find a business that treats it's customers as well as they do at Thockmorton's. read more

Went in recently for my first visit to have the shank on a ring fixed. They were very nice. Explained a few different methods of how they would be able to fix my ring. Got a call a few hours later, that the ring was ready to be picked up. When I went back to pick my ring up and asked how much I owed them, they said , "nothing". Are you kidding? Wow. So, now I've found my jeweler in Austin. I'll be bringing some other pieces next week. And, of course while I was there, spotted these beautiful necklaces, that I think I'll need to purchase for myself for Christmas. If you are looking for a jewelry store, look no further! read more

I am a sales rep and use to call on a clinic in the same strip center as Throckmortons I would often use them for jewelry repair or battery replacement while I was in the area twenty years ago. They have always been top of the line in quality and service. Here I am 20 yrs later and I unfortunately had a ring get stuck on my finger that I could not remove. Came in here to resize a gold ring I can gotten as a gift. Call them at first and they said they couldn't do a quote over the phone, so I came in person in the afternoon and showed them the ring. Turned out to be 10k. I tried on different ring bands and decided on 8.5. I was quoted $35 and told they would call me in 7-9 business days when it was complete. After about a week they called me and I picked it up. It fit as it did on the band and the ring looked completely fine. It doesn't slip off my finger so I'm happy. I would definitely come here again if I needed any jewelry resized. They also had an assortment of other jewelry and watches. read more

A gem of a jeweler, I am a fan for life!! I took a custom-made artisan engagement ring here for repair recently. It was made with sterling PMC (precious metal clay) and had two stones set in it, and the setting of one of the stones had fallen off. The woman who made the piece said "find a jeweler with a laser welder" and my hunt took me to Throckmorton's. The man who assessed the ring was friendly and conscientious, and told me that he wasn't certain the laser welder would be able to repair it because 1) PMC can behave differently than regular silver, and 2) if the laser beam hit the stone it might break it. But given the odds, which he put at 70/30 for success, he said "if this were my wife's ring, I'd give it a shot." So I took the chance and left the ring there for repair. Fast forward two weeks, I go back to pick it up and a lady is working on it then. They hadn't called saying it would be done but it was past when they thought it would. It turned out they didn't call yet because she was still 'struggling' (in her mind) to get it done to perfection. She wasn't happy with the quality of the weld, because the PMC wasn't taking it well. I, on the other hand, was thrilled to see the setting and stone re-attached. The stone was all black from soot, and she ran it through some sonic bath that cleaned out the grit and in the end, it glistens even more than it ever had! The most amazing thing was that she didn't even charge me a dime, because she wasn't satisfied with the work herself and felt she couldn't guarantee the weld. Well I can tell you my sweetie is SO glad to have that ring back on her finger and we both know it's sturdier than before. If I ever have other jewelry needs or even watch batteries or anything, this would be my first stop. They have made a very loyal customer out of me with their honesty and care. read more

My wedding and engagement rings were in a sad state. I had never had them cleaned, had two diamonds missing, and one was pushed into the setting pretty far. I dropped them both off the week of Thanksgiving, and were returned to me the next week, sparkling like new, with two new diamonds, and in perfect repair. What made it a great experience was the receptionist was friendly and engaged me in a conversation while I waited for my matey to be changed. I thought it might have been pricey I paid $12. However, this place was convenient and I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. It took me a long time to find a jeweler for me to take my ring being that it is such an expensive ring....and I found Throckmorton's. This is my second time going into get my diamond rings sized(for two different rings). I took my brand new engagement ring on Wednesday evening to get it sized and was given a week turnaround time which was still reasonable being Christmas week at all. I had mentioned that I was going out of town Friday for the holiday.... they called me Thursday evening to tell me my ring was ready for pick up! They went out of their way to get it to me on time so that I was able to show it to my family on this trip. It was a very nice surprise. Did not have a good experience at all! Went in 9/8. Woman was very highstrung and anxious. Maybe because she wasn't used to having people waiting on her-there were 3 others (giving her the benefit here). Very quick to give me ridiculous/outrageous quotes on work needed. $250 to set a stone! $65 to solder the ring. $15 to glue my pearl back on earring. Insane. Went to Vince at Bee Cave and got what I needed at a fraction of the price. Only drove out of my way because of recommendations on this page! read more

Both David and his wife were really knowledgeable, fast and courteous! I took my engagement ring and wedding band there for re-sizing because I wanted to go to someone local. He did the work in house and has his own laser welder, which is apparently a lot better for the ring. He tightened all the stones after he was done and it was a super reasonable price done pretty quickly. Upon getting home I found I chose a size that was still a bit too big for me, which was entirely my fault. I went back expecting to pay again as the whole resizing and tightening process had to start all over, but he did it at no charge and was done really quickly! I can't recommend them enough! SO much better to go local here than a big chain that mails your rings off. read more

Great little store, I had no idea it was this close to my house until I saw the yelp. I went during the middle of the day and I was in/out in 15 minutes. 2 new watch batteries 1 band fix 1 band resizing ______________ $38 I'm sure there are cheaper places to get a new battery, but it was obvious from the start that Mr. Throckmorton had a ton of experience and was honest. One of the watches I thought I needed resized just needed a minor adjustment, which he easily could have charged me for (he didn't). I'm glad to have something like this near Circle C. read more

$15 + tax for a battery replacement on my Fossil watch! I was in & out in 5 minutes- the time it took for them to replace the battery and reset all the settings! The workers were all very friendly and even informed me that they do jewelry replacements on items that are missing stones. This place was awesome. My husband and I were in Austin for the weekend and his Rolex band broke(the pin came out). I called multiple jewelers/Rolex dealers and they said they would have to either send it off to get fixed or order Rolex parts. However, luckily we found Throckmorton's. I wanted to write this review even though I never got a chance to do business with Thockmorton's. I sent a message asking if they would be able to fix a watch I had and although they weren't able to fix it, they responded quickly, gave me a great recommendation and were very thoughtful in saying that they hoped I was able to get it fixed (in time for my mom's birthday and our vacation). Not a great big deal, but I thought it was kind of them to mention that in a message to someone they knew they couldn't do business with anyway. I have been to Throckmorton's several times for quick repairs and watch batteries and have always had a great experience. I recently brought in a ring to be re-sized that had been worked on before from another jeweler leaving the metal damaged and rough. I was informed that the ring may not be able to be sized as large as I wanted due to the stone settings, I was already aware of this, I also mentioned the roughness of the metal and the jeweler said she wasn't sure how well it would turn out, but would do her best. Well her best was fantastic!!! Not only was she able to size the ring larger, she also repaired the metal like new. I am so happy with the result, taking a ring I hadn't worn in years to one I haven't taken off since I picked it up. Thank You! read more

Excellent personal service. We took in 3 rings for repair. Mine was a pinky gemstone ring that was bent when my hand was closed in a car door. They were able to shape it on the spot. We left 2 rings to be resized. I'm sure we'll be pleased. read more
