By the way, the weird smell has since dissipated. So I wanted to give the non buddha bowl items another try. Sometimes we crave the vegan guilty pleasures like the beyond burger and cheesecake. These dishes were a good effort. I think the cheese sauce is used too liberally which disappoints the fresh ingredients accompanying the patty, sausage and other dishes. There is a saying that cheese makes everything better, but I wouldn't take it to this level with a cheese alternative. The soup was flavorless and microwaved as I could tell by the heat marks on the bowl left by the soup. There is much more craft and quality in the buddha bowls. If you just need that vegan alternative diner food fix, as we all do sometimes, I think you'll be satisfied with that menu. However, I think a much better job could be done on these simple menu items, and if done would keep Thrive Diner competitive as a vegan establishment. There's fierce competition nearby. read more

It's wonderful having a restaurant that's exclusively plant-based in Pittsfield. I finally got around to trying this place yesterday, and I was impressed. I had the meatball sub with french fries, and it was scrumptious. I loved getting meatball subs from Angelina's when I was a child. Now that I'm a vegan, I seek out culinary experiences that replicate the comfort food memories of my childhood. Thrive's version was as equally tasty as what I remember...minus the guilt. The meatballs were juicy, with a crimson tint to them. I have to think that one of the ingredients was beets. Everything about them was delectable to the nth degree. The fries were delicious too. As I ate, I could hear people talking about amazing the soups were. I will have to try them on my next visit. The service was great, too. Great little vegan dinner. They have friendly staff, and I've been coming here since they opened. They have one of the best vegan burgers I've ever had, and their tempeh bacon is superb! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The service was nice and respectful of all of the COVID rules. We got there after 2 PM so we were seated quickly and the place wasn't full. When you ask for HOT they actually give you HOT. FINALLY a place that understands heat. THANK YOU. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the "blue cheese". It wasn't very flavorful but I know not to order it next time. Their cheese sauce is really good. Wish it was thicker but the taste is right on. Parking lot is small but plenty of street parking. I have been to thrive roughly 4 or 5 times. The first few times I had servers who were polite and food was great. The last time I went I had the owner, who barely spoke to myself or my wife. We had to get our own menus and when my wife asked for coffee the owner seemed bothered and said "oh, well I'll have to make a pot if you want some... do you want me to make a whole pot of coffee?" This was at 3PM, not close to closing or anything. Then she spent the majority of her time talking to a friend at the counter and not paying any mind to us....the food however was delicious! I thought maybe she had an off day, but then... Today when I went I had ordered for pick up. Gave the owner my name and she handed me my food. Before I could say anything someone else had walked in (who seemingly had just been there) and the owner asked her if there was a problem. I stayed standing there while they spoke because I needed a fork and the owner looked and me and said "oh you're done here" I said "can I have utensils" and she handed me a fork... there are nicer ways to ask people if they need anything further then "oh you're done here." A simple "is there something else I could help you with?" Would have been much appreciated. I'm really disappointed because I love the food everytime and it's great to have a vegan restaurant. But the attitude of the owner herself is leaving a bad taste in my mouth and I may not return. read more

The food is absolutely incredible, it was absolutely worth the spot both me (vegan) and my pescatarian partner absolutely raved about this place. The Dahl soup was warm and inviting. Incredible! Had a vegetarian friend visiting town, and thought that was the perfect excuse to give this place a try. The Buddah bowl was incredible - kale slaw was spicy and the black bean chili was perfectly spicy, and the two flavors complimented each other towards the end. My friends ordered the mock-meatball sub, and it was honestly more delicious than I ever thought it could be, and my Italian grandma's cooking has made me a snob about meatballs. I'm actually mad I didn't get it for myself. The curry that came with the avocado sandwich was also fantastic - I didn't get to try the avocado itself because my friends gobbled it up before I could. The food left us feeling perfectly sated, and it was nice to sit and chat afterward - good atmosphere in the railway-car like restaurant. Waitress and owner very attentive and dedicated to customer service. Final bill for three people WITH tip was about $50. You absolutely cannot beat that for the Berkshires. Six of us came in from out of town, descended on this place like locusts with no reservations or anything, and ordered a truckload of food to go after our hike. Everything is so delicious, none of us could find fault with anything so it's hard to recommend anything in particular. We got a bunch of bowls, desserts, appetizers, spaghetti, a sandwich--all just so so good. Service was also super friendly. I love, love, love Thrive! The food is delicious - treat yourself to a Buddha bowl (I have mine on salad greens and they're amazing!) and a chocolate chip cookie - which tastes like you baked it yourself at home. The greens are fresh, beautifully prepared and so tasty! Mine had carrots, beets, mushrooms, onions and the best little tomatoes I've ever had! The tofu nuggets I had were to die for. Everyone I know who has eaten here - vegans and non-vegans alike - have loved it. The service is on par with the food - friendly and welcoming. Delicious and creative. The best vegan cuisine this side of Kripalu (and maybe better!). If all vegan food was this good I'd become a vegan. The homemade sodas are fresh and tasty. I loved the spicy chili. Vegan doesn't have to mean bland, and they definitely know how to spice their food well, for flavor, not just heat. The "mockball" sub was also great and so was the grilled "not cheese" and avocado and "not bacon" sandwich. Even the desserts are wonderful (I had an amazing chocolate banana torte with raspberry reduction!) I wish they were open for brunch on the weekends. I'd love to see what they could create for breakfast. But I suppose you can't have everything. A healthy and very welcome new addition to Pittsfield dining. read more

Wowowow so cool and delicious and a total hidden gem!! We were traveling from MA to Albany area on my husbands birthday and I was looking for somewhere halfway to stop and grab a nice lunch. Thrive diner popped up on Yelp and I can only say I'm disappointed I haven't learned about it sooner! It's in an old train car that was a well know local diner for a long time and has now opened as a completely vegan cafe! We arrived right around noon on a Friday and we're told to seat ourselves, there are very limited tables but it wasn't too busy when we were there. They have a drink menu filled with hot tea and homemade sodas. I got a lemon ginger soda that was very spicy and fresh an I will 100% get it again. Neither my husband nor I were feeling super hungry so we each ordered tofu nuggets, Buffalo for me and bang bang for him. We might have said the wrong thing because we thought we were getting their Buddha bowl topped with the fried tofu, but it ended up being just the nuggets by themselves. Honestly probably didn't need that much food at that moment anyway, just felt a bit silly! The food was so good. The tofu was perfectly crisp on the outside and both the sauces were seriously delish. I am looking forward to our next trip out to NY so we can stop by again and try more of the menu! read more

I absolutely love the food at Thrive! It's where comfort food meets--a compassionate plate! Who doesn't love good tasting food that leaves your body feeling good?? I was in the hospital for an extended period rehabbing broken bones from an auto accident when I first tried their takeout (avocado melt, almond parm fries with "cheese" dip, buffalo cauliflower, AND a ginger miso tofu Buddha Bowl). I swear this food brought me back to LIFE after my long hospital stay. I ate the entire spread and felt so nourished and full of energy. Ever since, I've been going back for more! The buffalo cauliflower is a MUST--the crispy texture to the breading is amazing, and sauce not too spicy. I love their Buddha Bowls, especially the loaded baked potato. Each one is so colorful, flavorful, fresh, and packed with good fuel. Many of them make you feel like you're eating a rainbow with colorful carrots, beets, greens, tomatoes, sauces, etc. Their spicy kale slaw is yummy and crunchy, parm fries are delicious and satisfy that salty/cheesy craving. Their mouth-watering avocado melt is drizzled with the most delicious sauce, and I love their soft pretzel dipping bites too. If you try their house made soda, just be prepared for something that tastes a little closer to kambucha (a fermented drink) than traditional sugary soda. As a vegetarian, I am used to choosing from just a few boring and lackluster options when I go out to eat. What a treat to have a menu with so many delicious (and nutritious) options!! MUST EAT HERE!!!!! Phenomenal diner with funky atmosphere, creative vegan menu, something for everyone - even those not vegan or vegetarian. Almost everything is homemade - and those items that are homemade are all gluten-free. We had: buffalo cauliflower, avocado bruschetta (surprisingly creative and unexpected!), a burger with all the fixin's, and a create-your-own bowl with: brown rice rotini, cream sauce, sausage, steamed greens, and black olives. For a vegan place in the middle of Pittsfield, these guys are doing a good job. We went the week they opened and service was a little rough. I'm okay with that though because it's hard the first month and you definitely get put through the paces. I think a little fine tuning and some consistent training will improve the service immensely. Not a deal breaker by any stretch. The food was good! As someone who cooks professionally, cooking vegan is a massive challenge. You are trying to satisfy your vegan audience, but also make everything mouthwatering to the meat eating crowd. It's a tough gig. I think they did a great job of menu layout (though it's in papyrus script! Epic menu fail!) and planning. I tried a bit of everything and was most happy with the buddha bowls. I think their junk food (mac and cheese, burgers) needs a little more work, but still tasted really good. The ambiance is lovely. What it was before to what it is now, I mean, dang. Being new to the Vegan lifestyle I love sampling local restaurants. I ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer. It was huge definitely could have shared it. They were so crispy and tasted amazing! For an entree I ordered the Thai Noodle Buddha Bowl with kale slaw. You have the option to choose the heat level for the bowl, I opted for "Just a spec hot". It was too hot for me I'm bummed because it looked yummy! The kale slaw was perfect no big ribs/stems on the kale just leaves and the dressing was light and slightly sweet! I was very excited to try this place. Coming from nyc and finding a vegan restaurant in Pittsfield, I was surprised! Arriving at Thrive I was turned off by the smell as I walked into the diner. It's overwhelming, but I was craving the buffalo cauliflower wings (which did not disappoint) so I stayed . Luckily the buffalo sauce was potent enough that if I breathed in I could only smell that. But I must say that I occasionally held my breath. Its definitely something that needs to be addressed. I ordered the BLT and almond parm fries, it was good, I didn't like the tofu bacon and I had it with the pretzel bread but it was still tasty. Service was also good. read more
