I have a few tips for Americans visiting this Hertz location…read more 1) Give yourself plenty of time to get the car. It took us 75 minutes. 2) If you have never driven in the UK, pay the extra money and get an automatic transmission AND the GPS. Try and get a small or mid-size car as the roads in the UK are narrow. For our car, the GPS was an extra 100 pounds for the 8 day rental and it was worth every penny. Your phone with Google Maps might not update quickly enough to make the many turns needed to get around. And, if you have not previously driven in the UK, watch some YouTube videos on how to survive the roundabouts and narrow roads. 3) Carefully exam your car before leaving the lot for damage. Our car had lots of damage when we picked it up.

I picked up my rental car from the Downtown Edinburgh location on 7/23. I spoke with Giorgio at this location. He gave me multiple pieces of incorrect and confusing information. He told me that my car was not prepaid (it was booked via Chase Travel and I received a confirmation of this booking directly from Hertz and was pre-paid). I told him that I did not want any additional insurance from Hertz. He indicated that the £208 amount was for the car rental. When I returned the car on 7/25, I discovered that the £208 amount was for the insurance, which I did NOT want. Hertz refused to refund the charge even though it was their employees mistake and misrepresentation of the charge that confused me. Horrible company. Horrible service. They have lost me as a customer forever

Worst location I've ever dealt with. Giorgio, the elderly Italian man who was working the front…read moredesk at the time of our pickup, is not just very slow, but also rude. By the time we had the car for our noon rental, it was 1pm. He was present at our return and didn't even give us the time to gather our belongings out of the car before he demanded the keys and began his painfully slow inspection of the car which was returned in flawless condition. During his inspection, he started wasting our time by inspecting our own belongings, moving them around without consent, before trying to play a gimmick and force me to sign something without even seeing what I was agreeing to. It was then revealed that he tried to charge me an additional day along with a late fee, even though we returned the vehicle within the grace period of the time we actually picked it up due to Giorgio's slow service. Giorgio was forcefully trying to force me to sign despite my dispute against his fraudulent additions to my rental agreement. When I asked for his name to make a formal complaint about it, he threw his hands up and told me to walk across the parking area into the office to get the card. Frustrated, I told him that my entire experience with them was poor and that I didn't feel treated like a valued premium status member. That's when he had his supervisor come over to speak with me. The supervisor wasn't friendly either but at least he wasn't Giorgio. I informed him of everything I mentioned above and that I was told it's ok to return the vehicle at the time I said due to the late pickup. He told me it was him who I spoke to on the phone the day before and from that conversation, to quote him: "No worries, just return it whenever you can." Prior to that, he tried to force me to return it before 11am (a couple priors to the agreed return) because he wanted to service the vehicle, even though there was no notifications for service or even a mention prior to pickup. After speaking to him, he said he would waive the extra day and late fee charge and not to worry about it. Lo and behold, the invoice I received says otherwise. If you want to be treated poorly despite your years of loyalty with Hertz and premium status, come here. If you want to get scammed, come here. Otherwise, you're better off paying a bit extra for a cab to the airport and getting it from people who are professional and have class. And to Giorgio, I sincerely hope you receive the training you require to have even basic manners with customers. You shouldn't be serving people with your rudeness and lack of professionalism. You're better off in an office behind a desk.

When I returned the car, I explained this to the staff and refused to sign the damage report, as the same damage had already been noted. The agent assured me that no charge would be applied until the matter was resolved. However, Avis still charged my card without authorisation. I emailed customer service on 16 September, received only an automated acknowledgment, and have since had no response despite multiple follow-ups. This is unacceptable service and poor handling of a clear dispute. I've now had to seek a chargeback through my card provider. I strongly advise other customers to take detailed photos of their vehicle at collection and return, and to be cautious about pre-existing damage claims at this branch.

I was not contacted on the day I should've been there to pick it up, when I arrived the next day they had to void my original booking and charge me a premium to "rebook." I ended up having to pay double my original booking amount. I understand it was my fault but the car sitting at the airport one extra day should not have meant I'd have to pay double. The agent was not helpful or understanding of this and it was an unfortunate way to start a vacation. I will never be booking through budget again.
