Three Taverns has been on my list for sometime. My teammate decided to celebrate his bday here at the Decatur location, and finally got my chance to check it out. There is plenty of parking here, and a smaller outdoor area with an indoor area (and stage), plus an upper room with more comfy seating. The upper room also has a tv, games and photo booth. Downstairs they have a big gift shop with beers to go and plenty of merchandise. This brewery has lots of great beers. Most are familiar with their Night On Ponce IPA. They do not offer flights here (bummer) but offer up smaller pours. I did the Ritual Blonde, Crossfire Hurricane, Midnight Snack and Feest Noel. Was not a fan of the Feest. Highly recommend the blonde though. My favorite was the crossfire by far. They had a live band (playing songs I did not know) and a food vendor outside (which I didn't get a picture of). Brought a big group here for my birthday. When the beertenders found out it was my birthday, they gave me a free beer! So nice! Super friendly beertenders. Amazing outdoor area with picnic tables and umbrellas. Smaller inside area with tables. They also had a pizza stand the day we were there. Dogs are welcome on the patio. Free parking! We got there on a gorgeous Saturday in April at 1:00 and there were plenty of tables to choose from. Get there early though, because it got packed throughout the day. My favorite beers are the Lord Grey and Saporous. I love Three Taverns and it's become one of my favorite breweries in Atlanta! read more

Three taverns is a dream for sour beer lovers as myself. They are located close to the other breweries in Decatur. There are shops and restaurants close by and they also have their own parking lot. I have had many of their sours and they continue to come out with new flavors. Their sour asylum series are fantastic. I have had many of them and they never disappoint. I believe they are coming out with limited new ones here during our quarantine that can be preorder. The most unique one is probably the Lord Grey. It is a blend of earl grey tea with citrus notes. I was in the area and decided to stop by to check out the Decatur location. They have a good number of parking spots right in front of the property. I entered and the bartender advised that he just said last call, but made an exception for me. I asked for a good Hazy IPA and he served up a glass of Bright Day Coming. They have both indoor and outdoor seating options. I walked around and sat out in the garden area to enjoy the beer. The layout was cool and the bartender was friendly. This is one of two locations around the Atlanta area. I came here for a local brew with my parents. This location has a more wooded feeling to it with a patio that is Dog friendly. The bartender was willing to give us some samples before we made our selections. They have bruise here that are not available in stores and highly recommend trying them out. In the middle of Decatur, great selection, beautiful space inside, and very reasonable priced. We came here on a Sunday afternoon in December after lunch. It wasn't too busy, and with it being our first time here the bartenders were nice enough to let us sample a few of their beers before making our selections. If you don't know what you want, I highly recommend trying a few varieties, especially some that are outside of what you would typically order. My favorites: Tropical luxure- mango, pineapple, passionfruit. A tangy and delicious sour. I liked this one even more than the Rapturous and enchantress. The dirty dirty- really strong flavor, but you can definitely taste the vanilla flavor. Must try. Even if you typically only order fruity sours. The space: They have a few tables outside, but considering we came in the middle of December, that wasn't an option for us. Inside they have a beautiful central area to the brewery full of seating and even a live band. Upstairs they have more tables, which might work great for a larger party, and a comfortable couch seating area. We opted for the couches, and picked up a few games in the cabinet right by the stairs. They had taboo, cards against humanity, and a few others. Such a nice plus to find at a brewery. The other half of the building looked to be devoted to the actual brewing process. We didn't take a tour, but that's now on my bucket list for our next visit to Decatur. Great brewery atmosphere with the factory behind the indoor tasing room in a rustic decor. It was a sunny and mild Saturday afternoon for March, so the outdoor seating was open. They had a large selection on tap for the day, with several sours, IPAs, a dry Irish stout for St. Patrick's Day, and a 10% Russian Imperial Stout. The Imperial Stout was smooth and strong without tasting like alcohol. I took a chance on the Lord Grey earl grey sour and was plesantly suprised at how well the flavors worked, so much so that I left there with a six-pack. I've been here many times, and I drink their beer regularly. The IPA that I drink most is their Night On Ponce. It's 7.5% abv and incredibly smooth for an IPA. If you are into sours, their Rapturous is pretty awesome. There are so many other good beers, it's hard to name them all haha. I'd recommend coming to the brewery on a Sunday afternoon as they will usually have live music starting around 4pm until close. Many times they will have food trucks if you are looking for a yummy snack while you drink and listen :) The atmosphere is very chill and the staff are super friendly! This place is a great spot to gather with friends for a before or after dinner drink and some good conversation. The number one reason I come here though is the quality of the beer. I haven't been to many breweries in Atlanta. This is my third. When researching where to go, I didn't realize there were this many local breweries with tours to choose from. We ended up choosing Three Taverns. We ended up waiting outdoor area for a bit, as we arrived a few minutes early (ok, like 10 minutes early). There are picnic benches for seating and a food set up right outside - free food!!! It's $12 to drink and obtain the free beer glass with 6 drink coins. Some of the stronger beers will cost you two coins. The beers on draft were ok, I wish there were more Belgians, witbiers or hefeweizens. Mostly IPA's and various other random brews. The two story layout was pretty interesting. We were hanging out in a warehouse, essentially. Bar on the first floor, large communal table on the second floor, with limited seating and couches to lounge in. Downstairs has a couple tables to lean on, and you can lean on the bar railing that runs across the entire interior of the brewery. Bartenders are alright. We were one of the first people inside so they were still chipper and friendly in the beginning of the two hour window, and less so at the end. Understandable. We ventured outside for some food since the alcohol was definitely getting to my head. In anticipation of my drive home, I got some food to bring inside. The chef was also the server and brother of one of the men behind the bar who actually brewed the Imaginarium Project No 8. Thank god, I could tell him that was one of the only beers I enjoyed (a Belgian style wit). I remembered this beer being infused with rhubarb, which was no coincidence for the rhubarb chicken liver pate and pulled pork with rhubarb BBQ sauce. Even though I was still full from all the margaritas and all the beer, I couldn't help eating all my food. Even more delicious than the beer...! You're limited to two hours of drinking, but for me that was more than enough. A good time for sure but could still use a little more entertainment to pass the time. We unfortunately missed the tour and stayed inside (away from the corn hole but also from the sun and heat), so there wasn't much more to do than eat, drink and talk. You can find Three Taverns Craft Brewery at 121 New St, Decatur, GA 30030- while this is property Decatur by city districting lines, it may mean more looking for the Brewery by it's proximity to Avondale Estates as New St comes off of East College and is basically on the border between Decatur and Avondale slightly west of the Avondale MARTA station, a great travel option. The photos and experience are a bit old - it's from a visit on 2017.01.28 back before the laws were changed regarding the direct purchase of beer in Georgia - at the time you could pay for a "Brewery Tour" which usually included a glass and tickets that could be used to sample the beer. On this occasion I put together a small brewery crawl with some friends - there are three breweries within walking distance of each other: Three Taverns, Blue Tarp and Wild Heaven. We also made stops at My Parents Basement (for lunch) and closed things out at Palookaville for dinner. Three Taverns Craft Brewery in on New Street, about two blocks from East College - you turn onto New and then make a right into their parking lot. As with most Atlanta breweries, the facility parking is almost negligible - but fear not as there's plenty of street parking. This is a metal warehouse-style building with an awning above the taproom tentrance and "121" to the left of the door. The exterior belies the expansive rooms within - the facility is pretty big. The taproom itself has reclaimed wood walls and an interesting gear/wheel sculpture behind one counter and exposed brick behind the main tap counter - by the exposed wooden ceiling this was probably the original structure. If you're a beer geek (and who isn't?), make sure you take the tour - it's a nice facility - you'll also spot some barrels with goodies aging inside and if you're lucky they'll have something available that's unusual and not found locally in cans - and really, that's the best thing about visiting local breweries, experiencing the delicious limited offerings found only on site. On this day there were several beers worth trying (so I did, of course): * A Night on Ponce IPA - I've had this several times to skipped * Hoplicity DIPA - this was quite good, I think much better than their regular IPA. * A Night in Brussels IPA - I also skipped this one. * Prince of Pilsen - not a fan of Pilsners so I've never tried this one. * Quasimodo - this as a pretty great Belgian Style Quad * Feest Noel - this is a spiced up version of Quasimodo with cardamom, all spice and clove - it was a bit too much for me but I can see why someone would like it * Third Age - this Sherry Barrel Aged Old Ale - I thought I would like this more - I'm not sure what I expected. * Theophan the Recluse - I've had this before but like it so much I had more while visiting - this is a delicious Belgian-style Imperial Stout - strong, boozy, rich and worth it. * There were also three sours, but I passed on all three: Rapturous (rasperry sour), No.10-Basileus (cucumber basil) and No.11-Blacklisted (black currant rosemary tark dark ale). * Rowdy and Proud IPA - not listed but also worth trying - I like it better than A Night on Ponce. The people at Three Taverns are exceptionally nice - both the staff and the other patrons. I didn't get that douchey hipster vibe while visiting - the crowd was a bit older so that might be it, or it may just be the location - this part of town doesn't have the collegiate attitude of intown breweries. I really enjoyed my visit to 3 Taverns - smaller, intimate brewery just outside of town. Easy parking, space to spread out, and good beers! Focus on sours here, with many options that were quite good. They do full and small pours so you can essentially build your own flight of however many beers you want to try. Super safe order & pay process with Covid, and ample outdoor seating to enjoy your drinks. They also had limited snack foods available for purchase but didn't try any of that. I've been to Three Taverns before the Georgia brew laws changed, but this is my first visit back since and I have to say: it's a great little place with wonderful staff, great beers and really friendly patrons! For those who don't know, before September of 2017, Georgia had a law where breweries could not serve directly to the public so they had to sell glasses or tours instead and you got "free samples" to try. That's now changed: there's no need to buy a glass or tour (though tours are still offered if you're interested in that!): you can just belly up to the bar and order a beer to your liking. Here, you have many options from ales to IPAs to sours to stouts and you can purchase them in a variety of sizes at different price points. A small pour is only $3 and is definitely the economical way to go if you want to try more than a few of their tasty offerings. If you find you like one? Go back and get a bigger glass your next round: there are also $5 and $8 offerings (high gravity available only in the largest). I am a big lover of sours and highly recommend the strawberry one. I also sampled the dill pilsner (yes! like a pickle!) and the two stout offerings: the Russian one is over the top delicious, sweet and milky. Highly recommend. The space is lovely: there's a big indoor area with a huge projector screen TV. Today they were playing sports, but with the volume turned down so patrons could actually speak to each other. NICE. There's also an outdoor area with picnic tables and even cornhole games set up to play. They also had a food truck come by for eats -- though a menu inside showed they have food offerings of their own should you get a bit peckish while you're drinking. The staff? Also wonderful. Super friendly and knowledgable. You can open a tab if you like or pay-as-you-go, both cash and credit cards accepted. But I think one of the best things about this space is just how friendly and down-to-earth it is. We sat for a while at the picnic tables out in the sun and had some lovely conversations with other patrons there. Bring your puppies if they're well-behaved: they're totally welcomed outdoors. Bring your kids too: a few people had their children and every time someone came in with a baby we were all like: yep, now that's parenting done right! :) (with seriously no sarcasm at all) People of all ages were here; it's not an obnoxious hipstery environment. It's just a lovely place to sample some great brews and support your local Georgia small business to boot. I'm already looking forward to going back, as they have seasonal offerings that change. If you know anything much about the Atlanta beer scene, Three Taverns is arguably one of the best if not the best breweries to go to! My fiancé and I recently stopped by Three Taverns to be part of their 4th year anniversary celebration! They really went all out. We received 6 tickets and a tasting glass for $18 which was a great deal. They had four bar stations with a lot of their different beer selections. They also had The Pickle food truck and an Oyster Grill station. We had a blast so definitely go on their next anniversary! One of the beers that I really enjoyed that I think was released for their anniversary is the Saporous. Give it a try if you're into sours. The Apple Cinnamon Brown is pretty good too. You could really taste the apple and cinnamon flavors come through the beer. I could see this being a really good dessert beer. Couple other times I went to Three Taverns I still enjoyed the brewery. They have a couple of my favorite beers such as Sour Asylum series of beers, most notably #10 Basileus and Lord Grey. Even if sours aren't your style, 3T will definitely have something for you, no matter what your beer preferences are. Its absolutely ridiculous in 2017 I have yet to review one of my favorite breweries. Ridiculous. It's one of my favorite. Why?/ It specializes in Belgian style beers and Big Beers. I like Big Beers. By big I mean big flavors, complexity and ABV. And they call it the parlour. I mean how cool is that? Three Taverns has spoiled me. Its like eating prime rib and then going to steak and shake. Spoiled. But this is not about me.... You get six tokens and a glass, sometimes a glass. Last time I was there they were giving one but the time before they were not. So your chance may vary. Warning. This place gets packed. The lines get long. There is a small bar area with two sets of taps. And then they have more on the back wall either in their bottled series or some more taps. I have tried: A Night on Ponce - IPA with American yeast A Night in Brussels - IPA with Belgian yeast Both pretty good if you are an IPA fan. White Hops- Belgian Style IPA - Real light not bitter Rapturous - raspberry Sour Ale- If you like sours this is good. Its nice, not extremely tart. Hoplicity - Double IPA Its everything you want in a bitter beer Sour Asylum #10 Basileus - Not a fan on this. Basil and sour is not a good mix. Now my favorite part the BIG BEERS Quasimodo - I mean the name! Belgian Style Quad. It hits you. Hard. Very rich. Feest Noel - Holiday time beer Belgian Style Quad with Spice. Rich and Spicy. Third Age - Sherry Barrel Aged Ole Ale - This is sweet. You get all the sherry flavors. ***Heavy Bells**** MY FAVORITE!!!!! Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad. Rich boozie, delicious. I'm on my way to buy some don't follow me!!!!! Departed Spirit - I am not a stout fan because I don't like the coffee flavors they tend to have. But this one? Nope no coffee only bourbon and vanilla with a woody richness. So when I say I am a fan, I think I have the taste testing to support it!! And these are all I got to taste in my many visits. Just a word of caution. The big beers will cost you two tokens. But they are high on ABV. But If you are nice they will give you a small pour for one so at least you can taste it. Ask nice. They rotate but you probably will always find the Night IPAS, White and the Prince of Pilsner. If you are lucky they will have some big stuff. Go now its still winter. As it warms up sours come out. There are high top tables, which are never enough. There is an nice outdoor space with cornhole and places to sit along the parking lot. There is plenty of parking but it can get crowded as it shares the lot with other businesses. Everyone has been super nice. And the last time I was there I took the tour. They had some secret small container brewing. I want to go back and see what came of it! but Its a big production for big beers and ... look just go. You wont regret it. One of the best breweries in Georgia by far! You start out with 6 tokens and a glass for $14. The one downside is that the line to get beer can get extremely long but is well worth the wait! I tried all sorts of different types but what really drew me to three is their Belgian style beers. All of their beers have a unique flavor and the seasonally are very light and fruity. As a sour beer drinker, how the heck did it take me so long to hear about/visit this place?! I don't know, and I'm a little embarrassed I could have been drinking their delicious beer for so many months. At any rate, one of my friends does a fun beer series, where we all go and meet at a brewery to try the beers out. This one was second or third on the list, I think. The décor is very much industrial-chic, with a lot of wood mixed with metal accents and brick, so it's got a very hip sort of feel to it. While here, I tasted Rapturous, which became an instant favorite of mine. It's this beautiful, tart, sour ale with loads of raspberry flavor and a delicious fresh taste. I also tried Enchantress, which is a cranberry sour ale, and Lord Grey, which has flavors of Earl Grey tea. I also recall tasting a blueberry sour, and when I checked their website, they only list the Lazy Sonker; I can't remember if that's the right one I had a few months ago or not, but it was my favorite, with Rapturous not far behind. Rapturous is much more accessible, however, since you can find that one in both Wine & More and local grocery stores so I've gotten it a few times since then. It looks like they have an entire sour series (Sour Asylum) that runs the gamut from classic sours, to cream sours. With flavors like vanilla & raspberry, tangerine & vanilla, basil & cucumber, pineapple, and even mango, & passion fruit, there are SO MANY delicious, fruity, sour, flavors. This place is a sour beer drinker's paradise, and in doing some research for this review, I realized I absolutely must go and check out some of those other sours listed in the Sour Asylum series. read more

An impressive amount of brews here for (what seems like) a small brewery. I believe there were 14 different varieties available for tasting on my visit; ranging from IPA's, pilsner, white, sour, barrel aged, etc.. The tasting room itself isn't large (though larger than most on Long Island) but the amount of outdoor picnic tables and barrels create more than enough space to hang. Props for the place being clean and looking slick! There is a $12 charge when you enter and this snags you 6 tastings and a glass to take home. The 6 tastings end up equaling to a solid 3-4 beers (total guestimate), so it's a great deal, especially for the quality of drink. Will be back for sure! What's to say that hasn't probably been said before? Three Taverns continues to provide the most unique and consistently tasty craft beer selection in Georgia. Every time I go in they have a new beer on tap that blows me away. The brewery itself is unpretentious and cozy. The bartenders are knowledgeable and welcoming. Wonderful brewery in Decatur not too from Wild Heaven if your popping around breweries in the area. We were attending a private wedding reception last Saturday that evening for our great friends. Before the festivities kicked off I grabbed an 8 oz of Midnight Snack a chocolate stout cherry cordial flavor stunning and delicious. My beautiful wife and beer drinking companion opted for the Lord Fog a earl grey tea sour ale which has lactose, vanilla, lavender , and a ton of goodness packed into one glass. Those were just two of many more we sampled in the brewery for the event in the actual brewery. Staff were very friendly and quick on da draw getting the beers out to the people so no lines really formed at all the entire time. Before leaving I somehow tried a double barrel aged helms deep if memory serves correctly, freaking amazing. I really liked this brewery! The glasses they give you for your drink samples are a little fancier than the normal pint glasses from the other breweries like Sweetwater and Red Brick. You also receive 6 drink sample tokens as opposed to Red brick that only gives you 4 drink tickets. It is slightly more expensive than the other breweries though at $12 but totally worth it! My favorite of the beer selections was called "A night in Brussels" which was about 7.1% alcohol. There were 4 beer selections in total. One of them was worth 2 tokens since it was the darkest, highest in alcohol content about 9.1%. The times of the brewery are longer than the usual as well. We went on a Friday between 5:30pm and 8:30pm. Parking at this brewery is FREE which is always nice. I'm always excited to hear about a new micro brewery in Atlanta, so I was excited to stop by Three Taverns to see what they were going to offer Atlanta's micro brewery scene. Not too much. While the space here is perfect for renting out for a birthday party or bachelor party, I wasn't quite impressed with the lack of seating and the setup as whole. And while yes I understand many of the micro breweries in Atlanta are low on seating, this place was SUPER low on anywhere to seat. Also, besides sipping on a cold one while talking with your friends, there isn't any type of entertainment to be had. So loss of a star for that. Not sure Three Taverns beer is my brewery of choice when it comes to beer. Out of all the pours I tasted, I can say I only liked one slightly. As far as the service, it was excellent. I love the way they have their pour station set up. The guys behind the pour station were friendly, and the tour guide for the brewery was very informative. As a whole Three Tavern really should get a 2 1/2 stars, but hopefully with time they will grow into a strong contender on the Atlanta micro brewery scene. read more

I have been going to Three Taverns since they opened. It was actually the first brewery I went to when I moved to GA. They are fantastic. I have always enjoyed their early brews like single intent and Theophan. It is a fantastic place to take a date or have a casual beer after work. I think it was a nice touch to have food trucks come in more often. If you are new to Georgia or visiting Three Taverns is the brewery to go to for top quality local brew. They are off the beaten path a little in Decatur, but it is totally worth the detour. On a side note a couple years ago 3 taverns did a cheese and beer pairing. Loved it, I hope there is a plan to bring that event back soon. read more

This place is a solid spot . A co worker suggested this brewery since it was closer than the typical three in ATL. This brewery is very young. Its not as popular like sweet water yet. Me and my friend walked in we paid 12 dollars each and were handed wooden tokens instead of paper tickets . The tasting room was ok. By means not crowded. They had whisky barrels as stands down stairs and up stairs above the bar had a few chairs. There beer were great . I was pleased with there A Night in Brussels IPA, White Hops IPA and last Theophan The Recluse a Russian imperial stout . They also have a holiday spice beer Festive Noel that i did not try. The tenders at the bar were very helpfully and assisted every one on there choice of pours. Keep in mind the Recluse a Russian imperial stout and Festive Noel will cost you two tokens . I did not take the tour but the brew-master and the owner will walk and greet patrons inside the tasting room. Overall great place will be back!! read more
