What's on draft 3/20/21

You better run not walk to Outrun Brewing! Ok, maybe not run, since it's a bit far lol but definitely make your way over asap! I'm surprised there are only 19 reviews (including mine) for Outrun! I saw it on social media and knew I had to try it. And thanks to some food pop ups that were going on, a few of us stopped by for beer and noms. The retro vibe is super cool and unique, there's definitely nothing like it in Atlanta. I love the dog friendly interior that opens out to the accessibly outdoor seating. I saw "smoothie seltzer" (the Food Court Fantasy) and almost peed my pants LOL. I had to try it ASAP, although I was also hesitant since I'd never had a smoothie seltzer. I love me some hard seltzers and I love me a milkshake IPA, but... from now on I will only drink smoothie seltzers. I ended up going back and buying a 32 oz. crowler to go. And the crowler can is super unique: the design looks like a rolled up VHS box. If Outrun weren't so far, I would definitely be here more often. But anytime I'm in the area and they have Food Court Fantasy on tap, I'm THERE.

We love it here! The quirky retro vibes are so fun and every beer we've tried has been great. The service is also fantastic, and the man behind the bar is always so fun to talk to.

You can find Outrun Brewing at 5368 E Mountain St, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 this is a half-block from Main St. There's street parking available but easier to do the free parking at the Municipal Parking lot on the other side of Main and walk a block. I believe the building used to be an old municipal garage used to maintain the city's vehicles (could be wrong but someone indicated it was) - it features big roll-up doors which really brings the outside in and vice-versa. The bar is towards the back center with a small brewhouse with exposed bright tanks along the right. You basically queue up for a beer or two - there's also additional seating outside which is often quite busy, with picnic tables and a large patio. I first heard about Outrun Brewing on Facebook towards the end of 2018 - I believe they opened in 2020 - I attended the grand opening (somehow managed to lose the photos I took of that visit). This is a small batch brewery that specializes in a full range of beer products for local consumption - I don't believe they distribute and if they do it would probably be kegs to local restaurants and crowler shops. I've stopped by several times to sample their current offerings - they refresh fairly often. I also managed to pick up some bottles from a brewery-only release. The people I talked to visiting the brewery seem to be locals - there's another brewery nearby (part of a German restaurant) but the beer I've sampled there leaves much to be desired - Outrun on the other hand is fairly exception and worth trying. I like their fruited sours the best, but have also enjoyed several others: '89 Kalani Fruited Sour - 4.5% ABV - Refreshing fairly easy drinking citrus Berliner with mild notes of guava, passion fruit and orange. Pretty color and fairly juicy into a dry finish. Members Only NEIPA - 6.2% ABV - Quite good NEIPA, super hazy and juicy, citrus notes of grapefruit, orange and a touch of melon with a touch of hops throughout. Piney finish. Night Drive Stout - 6.4% ABV - To get that extra dark flavor, this stout is only brewed under the darkness of the night. Night Drive has a roasty yet smooth and chocolaty flavor that will make you feel like you're cruising under the stars. Passing Dream Fruited Sour - 4.5% ABV - With so many heavy BA stouts out there it's nice to get one competently made - a bit bigger than easy drinking, great roasted malt flavor with notes of chocolate in a full body. Madame Gazelle Fruited Berliner Weisse - 4.5% ABV - Quite tasty distinctive blackberry and sweet Passionfruit in this fruited sour, creamy body and dry finish. Espresso Flamingo Pastry Stout - 8.5% ABV - Neapolitan stout with notes of sweet chocolate, vanilla and strawberry in a medium body and sweet full finish. Service has always been good here and the beertenders are always good for a recommendation based on your personal preferences.

Outrun has become my team's go-to hangout after practice on Sundays. Love DJ and all the great staff there! Early on in our visits, they became curious about the sport we were practicing and after learning more details, the owners decided to sponsor our team - how cool! I love the spunky atmosphere here. Everything is in my favorite color (pink!) and the interior is bright, modern, and smart. The bench tables are great for group gatherings with A/C on the inside, or grab a table underneath an umbrella outside for warmer relaxation. They really did a great job of transforming both the interior and exterior spaces to make the area warm and inviting. Also, pro-tip, the Food Court Fantasy is the best thing on the menu. We'll continue coming here to support this great business!

This is such a charming brewery in the historic Stone Mountain neighborhood, I'm so glad my sis lives in the area and recommended we stop by for a visit. It is a brewer owned and operated small-scale brewery that focuses on approachable and highly drinkable small-batch brews.   I stopped by on a lovely Sunday with my family and ordered the Outrunner 3 IPA, it had some nice citrus notes. There was about 6 options on the menu the 5oz was $3.99. You also have the option to order a 16oz at 5.99 or a 32oz at 12.99.   You shouldn't have a problem finding a seat, there are several benches on the property and I believe there was also seating available inside the space. It was a very retro beachy, 80s vibe to it.   Service was okay, not great just okay. It was just a strange energy that I picked up, the employees really didn't' seem interested in telling us about the beer or engaging in conversation. My group was excited to try the place but maybe it was COVID or possibly because it was the end of the day. Like I said it was okay, they weren't rude or anything.

Set in the Stone Mountain Village area, this cute brewery packs in a punch with its bevy of beer offerings. I personally am a gose fan and I was so surprised that they had one on their menu. Their IPAs are great as well and you can take home a growler( no 6 packa available tho). They have li e music and food trucks on their grounds which is an added bonus. A great stop after your sweaty Stone Mountain hike.

10/10 beers, 10/10 atmosphere. I just happened to stumble upon this bar after a hike. I was parked pretty far from Stone Mountain, where there was free parking, and on my way back with a friend, we stopped at this bar. We were so thirsty. I have no idea why we thought it would be a good idea to hike Stone Mountain with no water during the summer in Georgia... but on the way back to the car we were dying and stopped to grab a beer and a large cup of water! I am so glad we forgot our water bottles because this was such a great find! It is kind of hidden on one of the streets with houses and a few other local businesses. The area doesn't seem super busy, but this brewery feels like the kind of place everyone goes to hang out in your favorite tv show or like the local hot spot in a movie. The decor is so cute, the beers are amazing, the price is really good, but the atmosphere was my favorite part. They have plenty of tables inside and out. They have cornhole (you just have to ask for the bags at the bar) and they had a small stage where they have performers on certain nights (we met a guy there telling us about how he'd be performing on the weekend). In addition to all of that, the staff was so friendly. They let us try a few samples to see which beer we liked best, and they spent time just chatting with us as well. We aren't from the Stone Mountain area, but we had to make a trip back a few weeks later just to visit this place again! I definitely recommend the Starjammer (I believe that is the one I got the first time. It was the sour that they have as a slushie). The second time, I wanted to go for something not frozen, so I got the 2089 Kalani, which I also loved and highly recommend!

Trail Map that should be updated to include path to the brewery!!

After a six mile trail around the mountain of stone there is nothing better than a pint from this spot. Great atmosphere and fine selections for craft beer. We had already enjoyed a meal nearby and left room for an afternoon stop here. Will be back again

Party of 1... Pop in pop out... 1st time visit This place has been on the list to check out for awhile. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon after running some errands. They have a very small parking lot right next to the property. When I arrived all spaces were taken, but I was lucky enough to find free 3 hour street parking close by. The place has great energy as soon as you walk up, with ample indoor and outdoor seating. They have a nice selection of beers and the bartender let me try a sample. I decided to order their hazy IPA called "Continue?". The beers are very reasonably priced. I took it and sat outside at an umbrella covered table. Perfect setup for me. I don't think Outrun serves food themselves, but there was a 3rd party vendor with a table setup selling plates. I ended up ordering a second beer and when I returned to my table a couple was now sitting there and we just ended up sharing the space. I noticed a DJ booth and a small stage for live performers. I am sure as it gets later in the day they have some musical entertainment. This place is kid friendly with a few video games available to keep them busy while the parents sample the beer. Not only kid friendly, but also pet friendly. I will definitely be coming back!

Excellent. LOVE this place. Amazing beer, good food rotation, and easy to access. Perfect and delicious especially after a hike at Stone Mountain.

Part of inside and arcade games

Retro, seating socially distant inside and out, employees wearing mask, 5 beers at a time and they rotate out and a great atmosphere with arcade Sega, corn hole and flamingos. Need I even say more.. but I haven't even told you about the beer. Great tunes at the right subtle volume adds a great vibe to the vibrant, full flavored beers. There is a flavor for ever beer type lover from saison to stouts and all the IPA's in between. Each one leaves you with a surprise mouthfull of flavor and saying, "wow." A friend and I stumbled upon this brewery after hiking Stone Mountain- a perfect treat after good hike. There is plenty of shady and sunny spots to socially distance and enjoy the old mechanics store meets retro costal vacation spot to meet your needs whether alone or with group. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is the perfect escape to enjoy a good pint of bliss. I am not usually a stout drinker on such a hot, summer day, but after trying the selection offered today - it was my pic and I don't regret it! This is an amazing addition to this area and I will look forward to visiting each time I come this way.

FOLLOW THE NEON to Outrun Brewing Co where flash backs to the excess of the 80s and playing a racing arcade game are encouraged. Grab your favorite neon shirt, a boom box, and crimp your hair, we're reliving the "best" decade. Night Drive Stout, 6.4%. A drinkable and rich chocolate forward beer, smooth and delicious. Liz's fave, of course. 89 Kalani Sour with passion fruit, orange, guava. This is a shout out to owner and brewer Ryan's Hawaiian heritage. ALOHA! Lo-Fi Lager is only 3.4% ABV but a light and drinkable lager that still has a wonderful flavor to enjoy all day. Jackets Not Required IPA: John's fave was a hazy inspired IPA with tons of flavor and slight butter on the back. While at Outrun, enjoy the Flamingos. Big Trouble in Little Beer Saison. Slightly rustic and slightly sour, but finishes smooth. We love that it was founded Outrun as a testament to the amazing decade that's the 80s, love wrestling, arcade games, and founding breweries in cities that need the community. Outrun your expectations!

The brewery can be seen from the street and looks tiny - it's much larger inside. There's plenty of parking available out front. I managed to hit Blackbird Farms during their grand opening and was able to sample 4 beers (at the time no flights so 4 was pretty much my max over a few hours to be able to sample and still drive). I can early on opening day and it was fairly busy but not packed - it picked up as I hung around. The interior is still a bit sparse with tables in the front, a taproom bar containing about 8 taps (one held root beer and a new NEIPA was offered for the opening so 8 beer taps total) and the brewhouse pretty much open for viewing directly behind the taproom. Bathrooms are towards the back and to the right. Directly across from the taproom bar are some classic arcade games including pinball machines and a Seville bowling game. For the opening Blackbird offered the following: * Farmish Pale Ale * GA Airport Beer Lager * Yellow River Wheat * Trophy Husband Stout * Part Time Genius NEIPA * Lemon Kiss Radler * Little Llama Root Beer * Lemon Kiss Shandy - Radler 6% - Lemony sweet with mild acid, very refreshing and a great initial offering. * Hop Clinic NEIPA 7% - Fairly dry NEIPA with tropical and melon notes, registers slightly flat with little nose, otherwise fluffy body with great lacing, low bitterness and very crushable. * Part Time Genius NEIPA 7% - Pretty tasty, tons of citrus with sweet tangerine notes in this excellent NEIPA. * Trophy Husband Stout 11% - Robust roasted malt notes in this almost English style Imperial Stout, good notes of chocolate and coffee in a full body and a full finish. Deceptively good. I believe I've met the Brewer/Owner Matt a casually a few years ago at an event I attended (at least he looks familiar but it's unclear when and where I may have met him - I at least know I've been to some of the same events he attended). I only spoke with him briefly during the event to congratulate him and express my appreciation for the beer. Based on the quality of the beer he seems to know what he's doing so I'll make a point of visiting more often in the future. Overall the experience was fantastic - the service (didn't catch the server behind the bar's name but she was awesome) and the beer were top notch - looking forward to what Matt comes up with in the future!
