We've been customers of Happy Hens for years. Even after moving, we've continued to make the 1hr…read moredrive to the farm because we genuinely like supporting this small local business. That's why we were extremely disappointed to purchase a flat of eggs directly from the farm on 9/11, only to learn afterward that Happy Hens had issued a voluntary Salmonella recall on 9/8. CDPH specifically states that recalled eggs were available for purchase directly at the Ramona farm. My understanding is that the FDA found Salmonella Enteritidis in 2 of the farm's 7 hen houses, and whole-genome sequencing showed that the Salmonella matched the strain found in sick individuals. As of September 8, there were 23 reported illnesses and 7 hospitalizations. We are reasonable people and understand that investigations happen and that things can go wrong. What we cannot understand is being allowed to purchase a flat of eggs after a voluntary recall had already been issued, without anyone saying a word. They were happy to take our money. Had we known, we obviously would not have purchased the eggs at this time. After years of intentionally supporting this business, we feel completely blindsided. This has seriously shaken our trust. My family had Such a fantastic day enjoying the Oasis Camel Dairy farm. From the back story of how the couple met, to feeding animals to education everything was entertaining and fun. We didn't have little kids with us, but still enjoyed this so much. Our 2hr noon hour tour had about 70ppl on it. We never felt like it was too many in any one place. The owners were so good about answering questions and were very funny! I'd highly recommend this to families who have kids and want to see and visit camels up close. Plan to take a picnic lunch, and plenty of water. The camels were awesome, they definitely wanted our apple treats so, it's worth buying extra.

An hour later around 10am was when it started to get busy. It's a smaller patch so a couple hours is doable if you have small kiddos. There's a barn to buy your pumpkins, a corn maze ($5pp), corn blaster ($1 per shot), petting zoo (free), and some small booths of food and small trinkets. Our group had a lot of fun for the 2 hours we were there. There is a huge rock display where the kids climb and great photo ops. This patch was quite a distance from Mira Mesa (40-45 mins) but since we left early in the morning, there was no traffic and ample parking. Parking is free and lots available.

Ryan is busy putting together their "Farm" bags and the micro-farms, and Ann is sending out weekly recipes of what to make with this week offerings. Connelly Farms is open all year around on Saturdays 9am - 2pm. Since they are open all year around what veggies and fruit they offer changes with the season. Check their website for what they are currently offering now. As it is summer, they have beautiful heirloom tomatoes,different types of summer squash, green and yellow string beans, pimento peppers, figs, white nectarines, eggs, herbs, lettuce varieties, and many other veggies I can't remember off the top of my head. They are known for their purple artichokes in the spring. They have had green, white, orange and purple cauliflower, cabbage, yams, lots of different citrus, He also has sugar cane for sale but you need to asked for it. I suggest to get there soon after they open if you want the best selection. Some of their items go quickly. When you come upon the circular driveway, enter on the left side where you see the sign, drive slowly past the veggie stand and park beyond it in a way you don't block the driveway so people can get out.
