The hotel is conveniently located a block or so from campus off Chapel St and is centrally located, very walker friendly. Check-in is at 3pm but we actually arrived into town a few hours early due to snow where we were at. I believe you have to do valet when you stay here, so we just pulled up to the designated area on the curb. Check-in process was straightforward, our room was ready, provided all the particulars and we were on our way. They do give you info on the morning coffee, amenities, etc. Room was pretty nice and boutique-y, nice snow capped campus view, our bed was a Queen but it was pretty big. Shower was nice, sink area was good, nicer towels and great body wash/shampoo. Wish the electric plugs were positioned differently, wifi was strong, overall the room was fine, nice design and furniture. We didn't have any issues with noise or ac/heat. No small fridge. Coffee is complimentary downstairs in the morning, there is a little market you can buy stuff too. If not, a few doors down, there's a great little coffee cafe. Hotel has a restaurant but we didn't try it. There's a small gym on the 2nd floor(looks like an hotel room they converted into a gym), complimentary bottled water if you need to grab a few for your room. Location is great, we walked everywhere, campus is only a few mins away, plenty of restaurants around, easy to get back onto the highway when we headed back to the airport. Staff at check-in was nice, informative and helpful. Check-out, not much discussion with the front desk guy, he just said we were good to go and emailed me the receipt when we turned in the keys. 5 mins before you head to check-out, call the valet and they will pull your car around and have it ready on the curb for you with friendly departures.

The beautifully restored Marcel Breuer building has a distinctive modern design and character, and it gave our event a memorable, special setting from the moment guests arrived. For Donate Life Connecticut, this gala brought together members of the organ donation and transplant community to celebrate generosity, honor transplant professionals, and recognize the lifesaving impact of organ and tissue donation. Hotel Marcel provided the perfect backdrop for a meaningful, joyful evening. The food was spectacular. We heard compliments throughout the night, and everything was beautifully prepared and presented. The staff was equally impressive: friendly, professional, helpful, and attentive to the many details involved in producing a large event. Our evening included dinner, a full program, a live choir, a DJ, a raffle, a silent auction, a paddle raise, and a photo booth, so there were many moving pieces. The Hotel Marcel team helped everything come together beautifully and made us feel supported throughout the process. The Symphony of Life Gala was a tremendous success, and Hotel Marcel played an important role in making the evening so special for Donate Life Connecticut and our guests. I would highly recommend Hotel Marcel to any nonprofit, organization, or company looking for a distinctive venue, exceptional food, and a welcoming, capable team for an important event. We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Hotel Marcel for helping us create such a memorable evening for Connecticut's donation and transplant community.

For years, this was just the big brutalist building in the IKEA parking lot, but they've put so much work into making this a gorgeous hotel with comfortable amenities and retro design. The switches to manipulate the blinds were cool and I liked that there were different settings for different times of day. I appreciated the abundant free parking as well. This seemed to be a pretty busy conference / corporate hotel which is not surprising but we definitely didn't feel like an afterthought. The staff were friendly and checked in throughout our stay. I also loved the commitment to sustainability throughout the hotel (e.g., reusable bottles, wooden reusable key cards, energy efficient lighting).

From the Suites at Yale-New Haven's web page:…read more "The Suites at Yale-New Haven is a new hotel offered by Yale-New Haven Hospital. When patients are faced with short- or long-term inpatient hospital care, families and caregivers can stay comfortably nearby. Patients preferring a day of rest before traveling home may enjoy a stay at The Suites as well. Located two blocks from the entrance of Yale-New Haven Hospital and its Smilow Cancer Hospital, Children's Hospital and Saint Raphael Campus, The Suites includes 24 suites with extended stay options. Daily, weekly and monthly rates are available." My review: I recently had surgery at Yale, and once I was discharged I stayed at The Suites until I was cleared by my surgeon to travel. The Suites are actually efficiency apartments with a kitchen that is fully stocked with dishes, glasses, pots and pans and silverware. There's also a dishwasher in the kitchen. The rest of the suite is a large living area, a bedroom (with a super-comfy queen-size bed) and bathroom. The Suites are built to accommodate a wheelchair. Even the bathroom is large. There are two big flat-screen tvs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Our suite was larger than most one-bedroom apartments! The entire place is a designated Quiet Zone so that patients can relax in peace and quiet (when my husband complained about the room above us raising a racket, they were immediately told to quiet down.) There is 24/7 security, a business center, a fitness center and a washer and dryer on the third floor. There is also free parking (some covered) and free wi-fi. There is also free transportation to and from the hospital, but because of the traffic it is honestly quicker to walk! I walked to my surgery and then a few days later walked back to the Suites. One thing to remember is that it is located in the middle of New Haven, which is a bustling city, and you will hear traffic outside, especially if you are on the ground floor. We brought a white noise machine with us and that helped. You can also stay here if you aren't going to the hospital, but at a higher rate.

The property is beautifully decorated. The rooms were a decent size as were the bathrooms. They include a mini fridge in the room as well as bathroom amenities such as a hair dryer. There is one elevator for use. The lobby has many places to sit and unwind and is pretty laidback. The front desk staff were kind and let me leave my items there until it was time to check in. The rooms were quiet in the fact that you could not hear anything from other rooms. Our room faced Chapel Street, which could get pretty loud at times especially at night. Plenty of light came in through during the day however. There is housekeeping each day though we declined as we were only there two nights. The one thing about this hotel that stinks is the restaurants or lack thereof. The Old Heidelberg bar downstairs is closed two days of the week and doesn't have good food options or beer options for that matter. It also attracts a young, rowdy college crowd which can be expected i guess... The Poindexter cafe in the lobby was out of all the breakfast foods we wanted which rendered them useless for a pre train ride meal. The staff was also pretty surly. The front desk sells some junk food if you want any but there's no where else on the property to purchase food or drink, even water. Down the street there is Est Est Est Pizza Shop which is not the best pizza you'll have but is open until 1am for food and drink if you need it. Overall, a nice hotel at an affordable place.

But I have to warn folks off if they're planning to stay longer or expect more space. Plusses: --employees are super nice. Jaimie was very kind when I arrived carsick and a little dizzy! --cafe in the lobby is great for breakfast --rooms are QUIET (at least in the summer) and clean --the bed was extremely comfortable. So I slept well. Hooray! --location: very convenient for Yale --Bathroom was nicely sized and stylish. Now the Minuses: --OMG, other than the bathroom, my room was TINY. The Hilton name & the website makes the rooms look very fancy - but it's an old small hotel renovated to look cute & instagrammable. So there was barely room in the room for me let alone my suitcase. No room for a dresser. No room on the floor to stretch or do exercises. I was supposed to be here for work for 2 weeks - I got a fabulous rate and it was going to be about the same as an AirBnB (but as "a Hilton", it sounded nicer). But I could not unpack in this room - and I had no breathing room. So I arranged to check out after 5 nights and move to a more spacious hotel. --Also: coffee in the room? Instant. But there was no room really for a coffee pot, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I would still give 4 stars with those caveats - except that sometimes the rate here is $400. I want to make sure people know what they would be getting for that! I slept really well and it was easy to get to meetings - but if I'd known, I would have stayed elsewhere for that amount. I was grateful to get to switch to the Blake later in the week, which was a lot roomier and modern. Hope that's helpful to anyone deciding where to stay!!

Both of my rooms were pretty good my only caveat was that about 7 days into my second day, my batteries in my ac died, and it took more than a day to be fixed. Connecticut in the summer is no joke, so that was a VERY sweaty night. The breakfast each morning was good, and it either featured scrambled eggs or omelettes, with bacon, sausage links/Pattie's, and potatoes. There was fresh coffee, pastries, and cereal, as well as waffles and oatmeal, and various fruit and yogurts. That was the best part of the stay. The elevators were probably the worst part, because one either smelled like too much perfume, or really stinky feet. The carpet in the majority of the hotel was absolutely gross, and they had rolls of new carpet in the first floor hallway, so I think they're gonna update it soon (I took the stairs 12 out of 14 days of my stay). The hotel is located right next to a very popular Texas Roadhouse, and across the street from a Walmart and an Aldi. It's not the best area, but it was somewhere okay to lay my head while in town on business. I'd stay again.

The staff, both upon arrival and departure, were friendly and helpful. There is a garage opposite the hotel where you pay to park daily. No complaint because you can go and come as you please with no extra charges. I was in the lobby on several occasions and loved all the music that was playing. (Smooth R&B from the 90s and old school jam.) It took me back. Sometimes I caught myself jamming to the music. The negatives- We were told that coffee or tea would be served in the mornings at the front foyer. They only had water. Anything else had to be bought from the market. There was no continental breakfast. We were there for an extended time and hoped our room would be cleaned. Every time that we left the room for long periods of times, the housekeepers would come in and change the trash cans and place towels in the bathroom, but they never made the beds or tidied up the rooms. Most hotels inform guests about the frequency of room cleaning, whether it's every other day or not. They did not clean our rooms during the entire stay and they were coming into our rooms when we were not there! Leave a note or let us know if the rooms are not going to be cleaned. On Saturday night, we asked the gentleman in the lobby for fresh towels and he told us that he would send someone up in 10 minutes. We waited and waited. No one ever showed up.

Overbooked, Stranded, and Treated with Disrespect I have…read morebeen traveling for more than 30 years, and I have never experienced anything like this. I reserved and paid for my room in advance, only to arrive at the hotel and be told that they were overbooked and there was an issue with my reservation. I simply cannot understand how a guest can have a confirmed, prepaid reservation, show up expecting a room, and then be told there is no room available. What made the situation even more frustrating was the lack of concern from management. There seemed to be very little regard for what happens to a guest who arrives expecting the room they reserved and paid for, especially when they may be far from home and have nowhere else to stay. What is even more disappointing is that this hotel is part of the Hilton brand, and my reservation was made and paid for through Expedia. These are two major, well-established companies, so I expected a much higher level of professionalism, customer service, accountability, and assistance when something went wrong. Unfortunately, contacting Expedia made the experience even worse. Each time I called, I was told that they first needed to contact the hotel to confirm that the hotel was actually overbooked. Once they confirmed it, they would apologize and tell me they were transferring me to a relocation/reservation specialist who would help find another hotel. After waiting approximately 30 minutes, the call would disconnect. I would then have to call back, explain the entire situation again to another representative, and go through the same process all over again. After nearly two hours of waiting and repeatedly calling, Expedia still provided no solution. What made it worse was the lack of concern and the attitude I received from the representatives. At no point did I feel that anyone truly cared that I was left without the room I had already reserved and paid for. As a customer, I should not have had to spend hours repeatedly calling, explaining the same situation, and proving that the hotel did not have the room I had already reserved and paid for. After more than 30 years of traveling, this was one of the most frustrating and unacceptable hotel experiences I have encountered. When you are dealing with names like Hilton and Expedia, you expect a confirmed and prepaid reservation to mean that a room will actually be available when you arrive. If something does go wrong, you expect both companies to take responsibility, communicate with one another, and help the customer find a solution instead of leaving the customer stranded and repeatedly trying to resolve the problem on their own. Based on this experience, I would not recommend booking a trip through Expedia or staying at a Hilton property, especially this particular hotel. Traveling can already be stressful enough. No one should have to deal with this level of stress, disrespect, lack of consideration, and poor customer service after paying in advance and expecting a confirmed reservation to be honored.
