The campground itself is nice. The facilities are clean, and you can tell that the owners are working to upgrade and maintain everything. There is a nice, cool, pool that the kids absolutely loved playing in. The campground is also pet friendly as long as you are in an RV or at a campsite. They don't allow pets in the cabin. That wasn't an issue for us this time, but it's something to consider if you are planning on traveling with pets. The cabins themselves are fine. Nothing extraordinary and nothing to nitpick about the structure. We only had a few issues. The first was with the AC. It was set to the lowest temperature, and it still couldn't keep the room cool. Granted, we came during a heat wave, so it's probably not so bad when it's just in the 80s or lower and the humidity isn't so high. The other issue was the mattresses on the bed. They were like prison mats. So uncomfortable, and even a two inch mattress topper didn't help. If you're a young person, then it probably isn't such a major problem, but if you are over 40 or have back pain, then you definitely want to avoid these cabins or plan to bring something that may help to make it more comfortable. The last issue is the cost. We stayed for two nights, and it cost over $300. My wife booked the cabin without my knowledge, so we were stuck with it, but for that price we could have stayed in a really nice hotel with amenities and towels and all of the things that are typically provided. In these cabins, there is toilet paper, a bath mat, and a couple of trash bags. You have to bring all of your own linens and towels. You also need to bring all of your own toiletries. And if you want coffee in the morning, either plan to bring a small machine and your own coffee, or you can take a 10-15 minute trip into one of the nearby towns. So, for the price and all things considered, I would not recommend booking a cabin here. The RV and campsites seem fine, and our in-laws paid a little less than half of what we paid for their RV site, so I would recommend it for that purpose. read more

My best friend and I have been camping together for 25 years and while we loved a nice wooded campsite for tent camping when we were in our 20's and 30's we are not spring chickens anymore so we look for places that offer a camping experience mixed with the conveniences of a cabin. Well about 10 or 11 years ago we found Grandview. Its about halfway between her house and mine and so it was a great place to try one last time in a tent. We had a greta time. We went end of the season and we were the only people there. I think they owners had only owned the place for a year or so. They family that owns the campground are so nice. They truly make you feel like you are part of the family. So since we enjoyed ourselves so much we went back. Each year they have a girls only weekend and we go every yard that we can and periodically we go in different weekends and bring the hubbies and kiddos. We all love this place. The cabins are nice and clean and you can really tell that they put effort into keeping the history of the campground alive, and it really has an extraordinary history. If you go camping there ask Alicia to show you the video of the old hotel and to tell you all about the history of the place. On clear nights you can see so many stars. The pool is great and on rainy days they have a ton of box games to help pass the time as well as an arcade. I haven't been in the arcade in a few years but it was fun the last time I was in there. The cleanest campground we ever stayed at! We've been to campgrounds from the White mountains to the Smoky mountains and many in between. Who would think that a local campground only 30 minutes from our house would be the cleanest I've ever been to. We thought it was very charming that they use some of the old doors ,hardware, etc. from the old hotel to repurpose them around their facility.. the staff including the owner were very friendly and accommodating. read more

I don't post bad reviews so I will begin with the positives of this campground. The owners are very nice. Lucas who brings the wood was very mature and kind. Campsites are clean. Very quiet area. The negatives would be the Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi extenders they have do not reach the RV sites towards the back of the campground. We were there for several weeks with no Wi-Fi. In emergency situations I feel this is dangerous. Another negative is if you want to pitch a one person tent on your RV site there is an extra $35 a night cost. read more

They had a nice pool, and the people are friendly. The site was relatively level, and had decent water pressure. The plots are grass, so you don't have to worry about sand or pine needles. The sites are open and on a hill, so it can get windy. read more

My family has been having reunions here every year! This place does not disappoint. It is a beautiful hidden little gem. We all stay in cabins, some of us do tents and they have spots for RVs as well. The cabins have AC and their own bathroom. They are super clean! I personally have never used the shared bathrooms but I here that they are very clean as well. There's also a pool/basketball court/game room. Very beautiful and scenic. Another great weekend of camping! My friends and I rented a sleep 5 cabin for "girls weekend ". There were 4 of us so the total cost per person was very reasonable. Our recently renovated cabin had all of the comforts of a hotel room. New bathroom with a shower. Heat and AC, dorm sized refrigerator, comfy beds and a table with two chairs. There was plenty of room for all of our gear. Grandview is located within a short drive to some of Connecticut's best attractions: Gillette's castle in Hadlyme- hiking, picnicking and castle tour Essex train - A beautiful train ride along the CT river with a boat cruise Chester ferry -a short ride on a historic ferry across the Connecticut river Devil's Hopyard state park hiking and fishing Salmon river state park -hiking and fishing You can rent kayaks on the salmon river too The Goodspeed Opera House where you can see off broadway shows The Gelston House Reaturant where you can dine with a view of the CT river. If you are willing to drive further, mystic seaport and aquarium are not too far away. The casinos are about 45 minutes away if that is of any interest to a camper. There is a small grocery store, pizza restaurant and pharmacy located in Moodus center not more than 2 miles away. There was so much to do at the campgrounds, we stayed on site most of the time. They have an in ground swimming pool and game room. There is a camp store with many of the basic camping supplies and local craft items for sale. There is a cool old dining hall that is big enough for a family gathering or wedding reception. The owners really went out of their way to make sure that were comfortable in our cabin and that we had everything that we needed. This was my second visit to Grandview. My friends and I plan to come back for another visit next season. We did not tent or trailer camp but from what I could see the lots were mostly level, many are pull through and they have a pump out station on site. Water and electricity were available on the sites. This is a nice country family style campground without all of the congestion, noise and commercial atmosphere that many campgrounds seem to have these days. read more

My husband and I got married at Grandview this fall. We were able to rent out most of the campground (only leaving a few RV spots already reserved) for the entire weekend. We had access to the hall to setup a day early, as well as offer accommodations for many of our guests in their cute and clean cabins for both nights. We had the wedding at the gazebo, reception in the Timberland hall, yard games under a large tent (that we rented elsewhere) and fires at night with s'mores. A full fun weekend with no reason for those that stayed there to leave. It was perfect! Valerie, Donald, Valerie's sister and staff member Laura were very welcoming and easy to work with. Throughout our stay, before and after they were extremely accommodating and did their best to ensure we had everything we needed. One example is them offering to drive us (in their golf cart) to the handmade pond that Donald had recently finished making for some photos. It was a magical spot surrounded by colorful fall trees. One would think it couldn't get more perfect, and then their horses were walked over, and became part of the photos. Both my husband and I highly recommend this venue as a fun destination wedding for those that enjoy the outdoors and want something a bit different. read more

This fantastic family-friendly campground is close to everything you might need (market, laundry mat) and far enough away from everything else. The sites are spacious and not too close together. The only improvement I'd suggest is planting a few more trees for extra shade and a more 'rustic' experience. The owners are very friendly hosts who are available to cater to your needs (bring you an extra picnic table, firewood, etc.) They even came out to check on us when it was raining! This resort has a lot of history and they're more than happy to share it with you. The cabins are spacious, the bathrooms are exceptionally clean (!!), and there's a lot to do for kids of all ages (playground, pool, basketball courts, arcade, games room, etc.). I can see why they have so many people celebrate their weddings, reunions, and other gatherings here! We're coming back here for sure! read more

This was a great family spot to camp. We didn't exactly rough it but got a cabin for our family of five. There was a double bed with a bunk and a set of bunk beds. The bathroom had a nice shower and sink. There was also a decent amount of storage space. Did I mention the AC? Again not roughing it at all! Dylan the camp "go to guy" was great and brought us a fire pit and picnic table. Super friendly and helpful! The owners were very attentive and did an amazing job making sure everyone was happy and comfortable. Alicia even came around to tell ghost stories around the fire. The pool was clean and not overly crowded. There were camp activities, our nights we played bingo and a horse race game. Tips: If you play bingo stand up if you are "waiting". Make sure to get the magic fire stuff, it changes the fire a bunch of colors! Very pretty, but you can't cook once you've added so do the smores first. The sites were spacious, with full hookups, and we had but to request something (eg. extra picnic tables, a fire ring) and it was delivered to our sites pronto. The view of the quiet countryside is definitely grand, yet there are activities and sights to see within an easy drive. There's a great pool to cool off in, a picnic pavilion, and a great staff.
