We had a lovely time staying with Germaine and Cathy at Daniel Rust house recently. The home's history is charming and the owners have kept it in an overall state of outstanding cleanliness. Breakfast was delicious and we even had round trip transportation to nearby Lake Coventry for an afternoon of sun and swimming. As a now out of state UCONN alum it's so nice to have a pleasant place near campus to stay when I'm back in town and I was impressed with the number of restaurant options down the road in Willimantic. Cathy's restaurant guidance was spot on!! We highly recommend the Daniel Rust House and we plan to return again soon. read more

We love this place so much! Cathy and Germaine are excellent hosts. You immediately feel welcome as soon as you walk in. You get a lovely tour and a history lesson about the home that is just delightful. The rooms are comfortable and warm and clean. Breakfast was excellent. I couldn't disagree more with the review left by Deanna G. The bed was comfortable. I slept like a baby. Maybe she's used to sleeping on clouds? Also, the jacuzzi tub was so relaxing and the personal fire place was the cherry on top. To be fair, you have to consider the host's requests. If every idiot was given free range of the fire place and jacuzzi tub, the place would be burnt down and the tub would be inoperable. For my 30th bday my husband and I booked 5 nights at The Daniel Rust House. We stayed in the romantic Anna White room with canopy bed and jacuzzi tub. Upon our arrival, everything was welcoming and clean. The whole house was decorated beautifully with holiday and Christmas decor. I felt like I was in a colonial Christmas! It was absolutely beautiful. Our room was relaxing, beautiful, and comfortable. If anyone is looking for a romantic getaway weekend or extended stay, please book this room! I slept great and loved the jacuzzi tub. Also, the breakfasts here are amazing and delicious. We are critiques when it comes to food and don't settle for cheap food. Their food exceeds a lot of restaurants that we've been to. Germaine and Cathy, the B&B owners/hosts are also absolutely wonderful. They're so accommodating, friendly, funny and engaging. WONDERFUL experience! We are repeat visitors and can't wait to go back again! The house and grounds are just beautiful and the whole stay feels like a step back in time. The proprietors are so friendly and accommodating and love to share the history of the house. And as a bonus, the breakfast is out of this world! In addition I would like to comment on Deanna's review of the Anna White Room. Saying I was flabbergasted is an understatement. Everything about the room is heavenly. The "log" she refers to creates the most beautiful warmth and ambiance in the room. As for the mattress, SERIOUSLY the best sleep EVER! And the Jacuzzi?! It is wonderful! Complete with candles and trimmings provided by the lovely proprietors. We ALWAYS request the Anna White Room. I lovingly call it my "home away from home." read more

This is the best B&B I've ever been to. Owners are super nice and exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was superb! The room with a working fireplace and a Jacuzzi bath tub was very romantic. They were also super pet friendly. My little dog had a great time there. We will definitely return. We will not bother looking for any other B&Bs, this place is perfect! read more

I've stayed here many times on business. Germaine and Cathy work tirelessly to keep a historic site up and running. They are loving and gracious. The breakfasts are over the top. Ignore the negative review. Waste of time. I will continue to stay here and I recommend it to my colleagues. We are hoping to have a weekend getaway this summer just for fun ! Long post, but important if you're looking to stay here. I've stayed in B&B's my entire life, my mother ran one in the summer when I was young, not my first rodeo as they say. The positive: Germaine is probably the kindest person on the planet. Her heart and soul go into the house and the running of the B&B. From her decor to her wonderful breakfasts and conversations, if I could give her a 5 star rating herself, I would, no question. The negative: Our room, we stayed in the Anna White room, the most expensive room in the house. We just got married, and it is Christmastime so we thought we'd really enjoy the jacuzzi tub, canopy bed and "working fireplace". Well, the mattress is a SLAB of CONCRETE. I'm not joking. I've slept on floors much more comfortable than that mattress. My husband and I tossed and turned all night, our shoulders fell asleep, we didn't know shoulders *could* fall asleep. Not to mention the heat was cranked to 70 the first night until we requested it be shut off the next morning and we had to sleep completely uncovered. When I inquired as to the hardness of the mattress, Germain offered to put 2 duvet covers under the fitted sheet. They didn't have a foam topper or egg crate on hand which kind of shocked me because we can't be the only people who have stayed there needing some more padding. It helped a little, but bless her heart it was only like putting feathers over a board. I didn't complain further as it was obvious they were both flustered and baffled we weren't epically comfortable. As for the jacuzzi tub, you can't use shampoo, soaps, oils or salts... ya know... the whole reason you want to be in a tub. You are only allowed to sit in your own hot water... not my cup of tea. So you're left with a shower stall akin to a restroom on a plane. I'm not kidding. I couldn't bend over to shave my legs without leaning on the wall. For staying in " luxury", I don't see it... Also, I used "working fireplace" to describe this feature because that's how they have it advertised. You're not allowed to have an actual fire in it. They will bring you 1 courtesy "log" per day but no paper or anything else can be burned. As someone who grew up with an ACTUAL working fireplace, I don't think this qualifies, but you decide for yourself. It's a pretty expensive place to stay, and they charged me for my entire visit only half way through (which I thought a bit rude) and we had to leave 3 days short because I literally could not take it anymore. I told Germaine that it was nothing that she did personally, but the bed is just too hard and I felt like I was going crazy because I NEEDED to sleep. They did not offer to refund our stay, or any part of it, and didn't have any issue with the fact they cooked us the first night we were there. Again, my mother ran a B&B, I know how business is done. If someone is unhappy to a certain level, you don't squeeze every penny from them to add insult to injury, it's just not a good practice. I hope this is helpful for anyone looking to stay. read more

Beautiful 18th-century house and incredible hospitality. The inn welcomes dogs and they made me and my friend and my dog so welcome. When my pup needed something to put his medicine in, Germaine ran right to the fridge and got us a piece of food. Comfortable room. Great breakfast, too. Highly recommended. read more

I stayed here in the beginning of June bc I had an interview the following day. When I first pulled in there was an adorable dog who basically walked me to the door which I found to be so cute. Germaine greeted me and gave me a tour of the lovely house. It is so quaint and charming and I just loved it. What I appreciated the most was how kind Germaine and Kathy were. I had the beginning of my interview that night at a dinner meeting and before I left both of them talked to me and wished me luck which I really appreciated especially since I was a distance from home and my family. When I came back they saw me and told me to come in asking me how everything went. It really was so nice of them to check in and wish me luck. It made me feel very comfortable and it was nice to have someone to talk with and share the details of my evening. Lovely place with super kind and wonderful hosts!! read more

The Daniel Rust house is a really charming, colonial era bed and breakfast. The rooms are decorated in a traditional style. The inn keepers are two very friendly animal lovers who will allow pets on a case by case basis if they are socialized and well behaved. I would stay here again and recommend this inn to others, especially if you love historic New England style homes. read more

This B&B is fabulous! Germain and Cathy are wonderful hostesses. The house is authentic colonial with a lot of history (underground tunnel, original flooring & windows etc. etc.) Grounds are beautiful and relaxing. Breakfast is simply wonderful!!!! They have the art of making you feel special and spoiled down to a science. Keep in mind that this is an old colonial home next to main street. You will hear the cars going by at night, but if you are a fan of colonial homes you'll know this is par for the course. I can't say enough about all the attention to detail that this B&B provides. Highly recommend this one. Our night away started with a stop at Cassidy Hill Vineyard, brought a bottle of wine back to the Daniel Rust and then went to the famous Coventry farmers market the next day. If you are looking for a relaxing, romantic itinerary this was just about as perfect as it could have been. Enjoy! read more

A terrific place to stay especially if you are travelling with your dogs. Cathy and Germaine love people and dogs and there is a fenced in yard where your pups can stay while you go to dinner. Also there is a long and quiet dirt road to take the dogs for a walk which is right by the house. Breakfast is always delicious. There is a bit of traffic going by on the main road but small price to pay for such a delightful place to stay. read more
