I stayed in the Zzz room for a night. The hosts, Paul and Bette, are wonderful. Their two cats are very cute as well. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was very comfortable---I had a great night's sleep. The outside is very picturesque--the porch has a fantastic view of trees and flowers (in the spring). The breakfast, prepared by Paul, was plentiful and fantastic. Paul served rye bread and scone baked by him. The house is more than 300 years old and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The stay was very reasonably priced. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and would gladly stay there if I go back that way.

Breakfast consisted of a delightful mix of fruits drizzled with cream and accented by fresh mint leaves, French toast, caramelized bananas and traditional scones. You need to love animals to stay here as there are three dogs and 2 cats that come into the house, 6 barn cats, and 6 horses. If you have any business in UCONN, this is a great (close) place to stay. It is also close to Willington, Tolland, Ashford, Mansfield, and Coventry. It is around 45 minutes from the airport. It is down a dirt road and is private and beautiful.

Though the grounds are always open to visitors, guided tours of the house are only available June through mid-October, Thursday-Sunday from 11AM-3PM, every hour on the hour. Timed tickets can be purchased online in advance (and this is recommended). Adult admission is $20. Once I arrived, I was greeted by staff who were very friendly. The tour guide, MaryLou, took me through the house and explained the history of Henry Bowen (the original resident of the house) and his family. She was extremely knowledgeable and it was very interesting! The tour was supposed to last around an hour, but she went for about an hour and 15 minutes. After the tour you are free to roam the grounds and take photos, and there's also a small gift shop. Non-flash photography is allowed inside the house, but no video. Overall I found this to be a really beautiful historical spot in Woodstock, CT and would definitely recommend taking a tour!

Laurie the women who handles Roseland cottage, on the other hand ended up being a bit difficult as our wedding got closer and closer. Sadly on the rehearsal day and wedding day she was rude and did things that we did not agree upon or said she wasn't going to do. She made herself seem understanding up until those days. She gave me sass remarks and honestly made the rehearsal day and wedding day more stressful. The only thing that made it worth it, like I said, was the beautiful venue. But Laurie in the end did make things feel way more stressful and difficult. Our catering was wonderful though, I could not have asked to better catering. Even though the home is a few decades old, the towels, sheets, soap and even the toilet paper is high end! Breakfast was incredible. Charlotte called the night before we arrived and asked what we would like. My wife had delightful Eggs Benedict, and I had scrambled eggs, and the best bacon ever! The grounds are expansive. Plenty of room to enjoy the huge house, or one of the many outdoor spaces. The views of the rolling hills would make an instagrammer blush. I can't wait to stay here during the holiday season.

Communication was a significant issue throughout the planning process. Dennis was often difficult to reach, and phone calls frequently went unanswered or were not returned in a timely manner. As a bride trying to coordinate an important event, this added unnecessary stress. I stayed at the property the night before the wedding so I could begin setting up. I was surprised that despite being present, the family appeared uninvolved and offered no assistance while preparations were underway. The interior of the home felt dated and had a noticeable mildew odor. As someone with allergies, I found it particularly uncomfortable. We were also told that the venue worked exclusively with a single caterer, leaving us with no flexibility in our catering choice. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, and several guests told us they were denied additional servings when they asked for seconds. That was especially disappointing and embarrassing on what should have been a joyful day. The garden is beautiful, but based on our overall experience with communication, accommodations, and catering, I would not choose this venue again.

In the morning, we had a great breakfast more akin to a bed and breakfast than a full-scale hotel. Two bits of advice: 1. Call ahead to make sure the Inn will be open - the Inn is closed sometimes in the winter and there might be nobody around. 2. I think the prices on the website are somewhat dated so confirm things when you call.

We stayed in the Stafford Suite circa 1778, which was an entire suite. (King bed, kitchen with all necessities, bathroom, cozy livingroom filled with games and so on...). I was in the area visiting UConn for the weekend so this was perfect; about 25 mins away. I had two issues with this stay and I will advise if you have ASTHMA or are an extreme ALLERGENIC person this may not be the right place for you. I struggled!!! 1) there's no heat in any rooms. There's individuals small Honeywell heaters in the bedroom and livingroom which take a lifetime to heat up the rooms. The bathroom does have its own heater. I tried leaving the heater on on low during the day while I left so when I came back I could be comfortable but it was turned off when I came back, I'm assuming the owner went there during the day. Since it's the room is technically under the room floors it's colder plus it's October fall in New England, it's generally cold here. 2) the mildew smell in there is very intense. We had to come home and wash everything. The smell was even trapped in my hair, it stunk badly. In order for them to mask the smell, everything is perfumed heavily. The sheets in the bed are heavily scented with whatever it is they use. If you are an ASTHMATIC or just a Plain ALLERGEN individual this May be a major issue for you. I know it was for me. After laying down for a few minutes, i started coughing, my chest hurt, and then shortly after I went into a full blown asthma attack. We then switched pillows from the couch to the bed and I also threw the blanket that was on the couch of the sheets on the bed and that's how I was able to sleep for the days we were there. Thankfully the couch items were not scented. Please be ware! Don't want anyone to suffer the same. Otherwise the place is beautiful, cozy, romantic if your if your looking for that setting and quiet. Can't speak in regards to food ( I ate out).

My family (two adults and two kids,…read moreaged 5 and 2) stayed in the Stafford Suite, which is an absolutely GORGEOUS one bedroom suite with a living area, kitchen with island, and a spacious bathroom. The fixtures were beautiful, the towels were so soft, and there were lots of lovely extras in all of the rooms (white noise machine! lavender bath salts!) The rooms were immaculate and the beds were incredibly comfortable (we typically stay at high-end hotels, and I expect to be a little disappointed in beds when staying at smaller places - not the case here!). I say beds because Danele pulled out the sofa for my son, and I wound up sleeping on it for part of the night - remarkably comfortable! The kitchen had everything we needed if we wanted to cook (we didn't!), including freshly ground (that day!) coffee, and Danele's breakfasts were delicious. When we had a splinter emergency with my youngest, Danele was able to help out with first aid supplies and kid-friendly band-aids. She saved the day! I can't say enough good things about this place. It exceeded my expectations in every way. We are looking forward to coming back again.

This weekend was our annual Swedish Christmas gathering and Grace & Rob provided us with the perfect venue. 20 adults and 6 children from 1-11 years old just don't fit at anyone's house anymore, so we reached out to take over the B&B for a day. The common rooms are spacious enough that we all were able to easily mingle for appetizers while the kids played and enjoyed themselves. The dining room handily accommodated our buffet line and seating for our Smorgasbord. Every step of the way, the owners were there if we wanted anything. The restoration of this home into a B&B is ongoing and it is very tasteful. Can't wait to see the next stage! We all loved our rooms. They were quiet and comfortable after our long event. We were in the Austin and Ruth Suite. I easily could stay here for weeks! The cabinetry is amazing, the bathroom larger than some bedrooms and the sitting area was very enticing. And our breakfast was delicious! From the pitchers of juice and water, the homemade granola with yogurt and apples, the scrumptious French toast with Vermont maple syrup... A perfect ending to our gathering that allowed us to wind down before heading on our way.
