Wow, just doesn't seem a good enough description. We come as a couple and as a family to enjoy 3 Cats.. We love the atmosphere of the old theater images/memorabilia, the food is incredible and the people are great. On our most recent experience, we enjoyed brunch, and it was as good as it always is. On this experience, we sat at the bar and our bartender offered great recommendations, has a warm approach, and made sure that we had everything we needed. Obviously well experienced, she knew when to check in and when to leave us be to our food and conversation. Me, I had the Sy Ginsberg's corned beef hash, poached eggs, and bagel. My mouth is watering remembering this dish. Yum! Her, she had the 2 eggs, bagel (skipped the meat) and loved it! Our current favorite dinner items from past experience are Tasting of 3 soups which wife and daughter love! They changed my mind on brussel sprouts...a must try. Yum. The menu look delish. Three Cats Cafe is Separate from Leon and Lulu but attached in the building. While I was there, a few women had ordered from the cafe and sat at a table inside Leon&Lulu. Their orders looked very appetizing, I will definitely try something from their menu. I was there for an Yelp event, ordered a dark roast coffee, a fresh pot was brewed and brought to me, I was treated like gold, service like that is rare now a days. Three Cats is the perfect hidden gem among all the chains and Gastropubs in the suburbs. Our drinks were perfect, respecting the alcohol they showcased without being overtly boozey. The mussels were delicious and I literally used the shell to sop up what was left post baguette. My husband got the filet and I got the salmon and both were awesome, his filet was cooked perfectly and my salmon was buttery balanced with salty citrus flavor. For dessert we got the carrot cake which was literally one of the best things I've eaten since moving from LA, lemony and sweet but not overwhelmingly saccharine. And my kiddo loved his burgers and fries. And service was great too! In a nutshell go and you won't regret it:) read more

Great entree choices, salmon, a melty like butter chicken offering, the pork that disappeared before I could get a sample.I cannot say enough about the included mushroom bisque, which is so rich it belongs in a completely different zip code. We DO eat at Three Cats quite often because it meets certain criteria, such as - it is spacious with breathing room (think Covid), for those who are immune challenged, has cheerful, colorful decor and is close-by. If the chef and staff are looking for suggestions on how to improve, these are my ideas : 1) The food quality has gone downhill in the past year or so, and could use some critical revisions. 2) The desserts are not exactly boring, but they do not include enough choices for various tastebuds (I used to love the lavender cake after lunch, to dip in my tea - now it is gone and there is not another type of delicious, non-chocolate cake choice. The bread pudding I tried one night did not cut it either - it was too gooey and sugary - you're losing revenue with me as a customer because I can not find a dessert choice (short of the lavender cake). Do you have a baker ? 3) Ray's ice cream can be had, by going over a few blocks and getting an ice cream cone - it's hardly a restaurant delicacy. 4) Tea used to be served in a pretty, China teapot - now it arrives in an ugly stainless steel pot like you see at diners, so NO special experience there - and the tea choices are few - if you're going to serve chamomile tea, buy a wonderful brand such as Tisane. Make tea drinking with cake a wonderful time ! 5) For people who can not drink alcohol, what ever happened to some sparkling water ? Again, why not carry small Pellegrinos with lime ? You used to carry Topo Chico - now there is no non-alcohol choice other than ice tea or pop. For some people, sparkling water is their cocktail. 6) I miss the Margarita pizza - it was doggone delicious 7) My mother used to cook Coq-a-vin a lot when she was young, and she always used white wine in it - she tried yours and did not like it - something to think about - many people prefer the lighter flavor with their chicken. That's it for now. We will still eat at your restaurant, and give it another try - again - but stepping it up would help retain business, especially with inflation raging. People will become choosier and choosier with their outings and expenditures. On the PLUS side, service is always great ! ! ! read more

This place is super cute. Attended a baby shower here. The set up was so nice and it has a very vintage/crafty feel to it. Great idea for a party/shower or whatever private event you want to give. The food was great. We had a delicious smokey salmon salad. Wonderful. The baked goods were even more delicious. This location is about 45 minutes away from my local area, but if it weren't I would definitely frequent this cafe. Super cute. read more

I didn't realize how much Matt Prentice's food was missed until a spoonful of the mushroom bisque. It is a welcome throw-back. Besides this, I think 3 Cats has one of the better brunches in town. Where else are you going to find a mushroom souffle, and one which comes with a delicious carrot muffin? You can't beat the setting in the eclectic Leon & Lulu's. The tables are spaced out nicely so that even when it's a full house, it doesn't feel cramped. Service was excellent. read more

This place has a cool concept in theory. You go up to order at the front of the restaurant and take a table number. You bring the table number back to one of the many tables throughout the building. The only thing that can be a little strange is that people are shopping around you while you are eating. The tables aren't in a designated area per se, so I had people walking directly behind me to check out greeting cards. The food was pretty tasty. I got the impossible burger which came with a bean salad on the side. The burger was a little dry for my tastes which I think largely had to do with the amount of bread and little amount of aioli. Heads up they only do breakfast/brunch on weekends. I went here for the first time on a Saturday around noon. It took 25 minutes for a server to acknowledge us after the hostess seated us. We ended up having to ask the hostess where our server was and then after someone came to talk to us. Honestly the brunch was really good and the atmosphere is super unique and artsy, but the service is pretty slow--could just be short staffed! I recommend checking out the breakfast at least once. read more

Not bad overall. The service was good. The menu is extremely limited and they didn't have gluten free options for my friend. I had the turkey sandwich with brie and figs and also the tomato soup. The sandwich was okay (not the most flavorful thing I've ever eaten) and the soup needed salt and pepper. The pasta salad on the side was good. I made a huge mistake ordering the Italian soda. It had absolutely no sugar in it so it was very sour. Maybe I misunderstood what an Italian soda is but other restaurant's Italian soda is very sweet. Oh well. $16 was a bit much for a cup of soup and sandwich. The food just lacks any wow-factor. I don't think I'll be back. read more

This is a review of the newly revamped (Sept 2019 reopening) Three Cats Cafe with veteran Matt Prentice at the helm. One word: wow. The food here is simply incredible. Fresh, innovative, Michigan focused food in a very comfortable and fun atmosphere. The plates are a bit smaller, so you might order a few and pass them to share as our table decided. We started with a trio of the soups--Heirloom Carrot bisque, Butternut Squash/apple and Corn Chowder/Yukon. They were each unique and incredibly favorable. My favorite was the Heirloom Carrot bisque with just a touch of curry, ginger, coconut. Simply incredible. I then tried the Heirloom Tomato Stack with the house made goat Boursin, some basil and topped by a Mawby (a Michigan sparkling wine) vinaigrette. Oh my. I reluctantly shared a few bites, but saved most of this for myself. Simply Incredible. I next tried the Wild and Exotic mushroom Tagliatelle pasta dish. The pasta is home made and the mushrooms are incredibly flavorful. My table mates tried the Duck Confit with Blueberry Beurre Blanc and summer vegetables, as well as the cabernet Short Ribs with a Horseradish Hash. Since I'm vegetarian, I didn't sample these, but everyone was truly in agreement that this is some of the best food each of us have ever had. While we were bursting after all of our little plates, we managed to still share a chocolate pot au creme (with delicious little chocolate chunks), a delightful bread pudding with a creamy rum sauce I believe and some sort of creme brûlée with gingerbready sort of crunchy sweetness. We also enjoyed some lovely wines. This restaurant is an absolute must -- delicious, fresh and innovative food in a comfortable atmosphere. Get your table here before this place is truly discovered and the waits become super long. Parking is on site. Easy drive from Detroit burbs. Put it on your list! Incredible evening!!! read more

My husband and I were looking for something new as far as a restaurant on a Monday for lunch. After much discussion, we decided to give Three Cats a try. What a pleasant surprise. Our waiter, I believe is Kae (not sure of spelling) was absolutely wonderful and helped us navigate the menu. His suggestion of trying the trio of soup samples and splitting the salad was perfect. Also our main entree's; Chicken with morels and turkey sandwich was perfect. (my description is way to simple). I wish I had room for dessert! I don't like leaving a poor review for a restaurant unless the management was at fault. I called to place a carry out order and was greeted over the phone by someone with a speech impediment. First thing management did wrong. then I proceeded to place my order and the host hangs up without asking for a name or giving me and estimated time that the food will be ready at. This is managements fault for not training host properly. When I arrive, the food is not ready, no problem. When my food is ready and brought out to me, the order is not complete as the kitchen staff forgot part of the order. So i wait patiently for it come out. When all the food is cooked and given to me, I give the host my $$$ and she spends 10 minutes trying to find $5 to give me for change.Someone on management realizes i've been standing at the hostess stand for WAYY to long and walks around the restaurant looking for $5 to give me. Just a poorly ran restaurant and a terrible experience. I won't bash on the food tho as the philly dip was a 7/10 and the fries were a 8/10. management needs to get there shit together and run this place like a restaurant and not an art show. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant during peak hours or if you're in a time crunch read more

I am so happy to see Matt Prentice back on his game. My husband and I came for dinner on Sweetest Day and were greeted by friendly staff and experienced delicious food. The duck confit was amazing as was everything else on the plate. The soups were devine.i particularly loved the corn chowder soup! The meal was nicely paced and the apple pie for dessert was fantastic.I would definitely be back . The chairs were hard hard hard to sit on for two hours. My husband and I have enjoyed several meals here, so I was confident that our order of Thanksgiving takeout for 5 people would be great. I placed the order on the phone with a young lady who assured me several times that the food would be served in 5 separate containers ... which I thought was odd. When I picked it up, I learned it was "family style" but was assured there would be plenty for 5 people. We were actually a group of 3 adults, but wanted leftovers. The food was good, but there was nowhere near enough! The turkey which was placed on top of the stuffing in an aluminum pan was a small drumstick and several pieces of white meat. We had NO second helpings and ended up with one small piece of white meat turkey, one serving of stuffing, & less than one serving of the vegetables. Interestingly, they gave us EIGHT desserts (which were quite tasty.) It was hugely disappointing, to say nothing of expensive, and I will not repeat this mistake. I compared notes with a friend who ordered for 3 people also from a locally-owned well-known Italian restaurant group. They spent the same amount and had more left over for the following day than they could eat. We'll return to Three Cats for the food, ambience, and service ... but not for a holiday takeout. read more

We were celebrating my daughters birthday and wanted a locally sourced restaurant with gluten free options. We have eaten at 3 Cats before and had good food and good service. The service came with a side of attitude tonight. Not to mention, we ordered appetizers, soup and main courses. When the main courses came, none of the appetizer or soup bowls had been cleared from the table and we had to stack them in the middle of the table and had dirty dishes sitting there throughout the rest of our meal. Most of the food was very good, except the wild mushroom bisque. Three of the seven of us ordered it and it was so salty we couldn't eat it. $24 of soup that was too salty to eat. No one bothered asking if there was a problem with the soup even though the bowls which were left on the table were still full of soup through the end of the meal. When the check came, there was a 23% gratuity added. Now I typically tip 30-25% but this service was fair at best. We had to ask for our water to be refilled and the dishes were not cleared from the table besides the attitude issue. I feel that 23% is a lot to automatically add. 30% maybe but 23% is pushing it. I don't know if things changed since Matt Prentice passed away, but this wasn't the same experience as times past at 3 Cats. read more
