We have had lunch here three or four times now, love the soups salads and flatbreads. They make pretty good crab cake too, and mussels in broth. Today we tried it for brunch on Father's Day and loved it. Service here is really well done, they have interesting combos like The Benoit which is a Benedict with a shrimp and corn cake and asparagus, or the duck hash or corned beef hash, loved also the cornflake crusted French toast. Nice cocktails and wine list as well. A nice place to grab brunch on sundays or lunch during the week. Haven't tried their dinner menu yet but I'm sure it's good too! read more

What a cool place! We had a very nice dinner there. Started at the little bar with a yummy margarita and a glass of Pinot. Bar tender was cool and attentive. We got seated in the dining area and had our cool bar tender also be our waiter. Wife and I split a tender rib eye served with stewed cabbage which sounds odd but was good. Someone had told me there was a new cafe at Leon and Lulu, one of my favorite places to shop for random interesting knick-knacks. I wandered around that store for a bit before being told the restaurant was next door in the old Clawson Theater. When I walked into Three Cats no one greeted me and I was confused as to where I should go. There were more of the same kind of items for sale in the front. Then I saw the tables, but most were empty. I asked someone walking by me, who looked to be an employee, if they were open and she said yes, but didn't ask if I wanted to be seated. I looked at her questioningly and she motioned for someone at the back door who came forward. I had to ask to be seated. It was a weird and not very welcoming first start to my lunch. Once I was seated, my waiter Andy was prompt and extremely friendly. The menu items looked tempting, especially the wild mushroom tagliatelli. Then I noticed the duck leg confit, which came with the same pasta dish and that was the ticket. Andy asked about wine, brought me a sample of one of my choices. He could see that I wasn't impressed and we decided on another, Marietta Christa, Rhone Blend 2015, which was perfect. He mentioned that the chef (the locally well-known Matt Prentiss) had personally hand-picked the wine list. I'm no stranger to fine dining and love to cook, so it's seldom that I am served a dish that tastes better than I could make at home. The duck was taken off the bone and was tender and succulent. The wild mushroom pasta was a perfect foil, as was the blackberry and ginger buerre blanc, which was topped with julienned vegetables. It might be a little rich for some, but to my taste was perfectly seasoned (most places do not add enough salt for me) and was an extremely satisfying dish. Had I not been in public I would have been tempted to lick the empty plate. Kudos to the chef! If not for the rocky start, I would have rated Three Cats 5 stars. read more

We came in for brunch with the grandparents on a Sunday around noon, loved that we were able to make reservations when so many spots in the area will only work based on a wait list. With two little kids it made a huge difference! We tried lots of different dishes between our group, the soup trio was so fun and delicious, the kids loved the pancakes, and every grown-up got something different - no one went home hungry and everyone was so impressed with the food. The service was wonderful and I really appreciated how open the restaurant felt, no chair backs pushing into each other or narrow spaces where you feel squished - sure they could cram a few more tables in but it would totally change the vibe. A+ top to bottom! Would love to return to try some brunch cocktails and shop a little longer next door when the kids are not going bananas :) read more

This place was beautiful! Starting from the reservation we got there few minutes earlier and got our table just in time for our reservation! The whole staff was nice greeters and waitresses! Our waitress was nice, and knowledgeable of the menu! The wine was delish and the food was just yummy! We had the steak tenderloin Valentine's special dinner that came with potatoes and some vegetables and that was really good I would highly recommend it! The meat was tender and tasted specially with the mushroom sauce! Also we had the smoked salmon flat bread and chop so hop salad for appetizer and both were amazing! Love the food, the decor, the atmosphere, the treatment and all and would highly recommend going there! The atmosphere of this cafe is so cute! Came here for a mini event hosted by a friend and the waitstaff were very attentive. They did have a bit of miscommunication with an order since we had two tables. We ordered a fruit and cheese plate for both tables, but...It got split up. I tried their steel cut oatmeal with berries (blueberries). It came with a mini dish of cinnamon sugar to mix in. It was very delicious, but I do prefer the one at Commonwealth in Birmingham with the tiny beaker of milk to mix in. My friend ordered their chai latte and it smelled so delicious. The menu is good, nice decor, execution just okay, but sometimes you just don't feel like you're getting value for the price. For me, $30 should mean I'm not leaving hungry like on my last visit. Perhaps that's because they forgot to even serve me the bagel that was supposed to come with the tiny portion of corned beef hash that had the undercooked watery poached eggs on it. I really didn't enjoy that dish, and I'm a corned beef hash fiend. There wasn't really enough corned beef to even get to appreciate it, it was more like a garnish. They ended up giving me the bagel in a to-go container, but it sure would have helped. Also did the soup flight, the mushroom soup taste and texture was amazing, the tomato soup was good but more like watery marinara, the asparagus pea soup needed salt. You would think two dishes and $30 would constitute a meal, but not here. read more

Love the Three Cats Cafe for lunch in Clawson. Located inside The Show -next to Leon & Lulu. Look for the Clawson marquee! A limited but well thought out menu that has soup, salad and sandwich or wrap options. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. Unique offerings like turkey Brie and apple but you can also get a grilled cheese. Always presented on a nice plate with silverware (no paper and plastic ware here). Often served with a little side of potato salad or the like - always so good! Order & pay at the counter up front. Take your number and find a place to sit among the furniture, card and gift offerings. In the summer they have an outdoor patio, too which I love! This is a great place to meet a friend for lunch or quick snack. They offer coffee, but I've never tried it. Also yummy baked goods - try the mini cupcakes @ $1.50 each. read more

The space here is really great and I'd like to love this place but it just didn't do it for me. Upon arrival there was a big hubbub about seating us, the woman working was worked up over something a server was doing and mumbled a few f-bombs before walking away and then seating us 5 minutes later. However, once we were seated the service was fast and friendly! The food and drinks were just ok. We were there early afternoon on a weekend and had the brunch menu. My husband and I each ordered a berry mimosa, it was $9 and was so sweet and barely had any champagne. It has a sweet syrup taste to it. I ordered the corned beef hash, normally a staple for brunch. The hash was kind of burned on the bottom and the corned beef was large chunks of mostly fat. The homemade everything bagel sounded delicious, but was so heavy and doughy it was not great. The eggs were poached but no runny yolk :( Prices on the food were decent and we were able to walk next door and shop which was nice. One recommendation for management, I noticed a woman with a baby find out there was no changing station in the bathroom. Sadly for her, she had no other option but to change her baby on one of the couches in the waiting area, unappealing!! read more

Went there this summer. The food is a 5, the service we had was a 1, but the way management stepped in to rescue "date night" was a 5. We went during the lobster days. What a treat. I am going to leave all the service issues out and focus on the food. At that time, many restaurants had trouble getting professionals. I had a seafood bucket with lobster, clams, fish and I believe mussels. It was done perfectly. My wife had another lobster dish and she liked all of it. The sides were excellent too. Fun and inviting interior, a lot of items to keep visual interest. The food is very good, but note that the portions for everything are very small by American standards. This includes the "glass" of wine that was poured for me, which I finished in FOUR sips. This annoyed me when I saw other customer's wine glasses were definitely a bit more generous. A bottle of wine is supposed to fill five glasses. I feel like the bottle used to serve me was used to serve seven glasses. Maybe it was just my unlucky moment. Duck was small but well prepared, tender and flavorful. The soup was good, but not quite hot enough, and the large bowl was just barely half filled - the quantity was more like a scant cup of soup. Maybe, like my paltry serving of wine, maybe it was just a fluke of a meager serving. Would I go back? Probably. It's a good, fun, casual place that is inviting. The menu is creative and adventurous, the dishes are well prepared and the service is very good. If you don't like seafood, fish, or mushrooms, your options will be limited. A very eclectic venue, with a super creative menu, and great food. This place has a great ambiance. It's in an old theater converted to a restaurant, that sells cool old stuff. In fact, most of the decorations are for sale. Great for dates, groups, everything. Menu: very diverse and creative. Has vegetarian options. Tons of seafood flown in every 2 days. Impressive menu overall. Service: a bit understaffed, but well trained and professional. It was pretty full on a Sunday. Not sure they expected it. Wine: short but great wine list. Has a bit of everything for everyone. Markup is extremely reasonable. Food: everything was delicious. Soups are all fantastic. Mushroom bisque fantastic. Gaspatcho really good. Boston chowder fantastic. Carrot soup swing and miss. They have very reasonably priced seafood steamer baskets with half a lobster. The scallops come with asparagus mushroom stuff that is delicious. Crab cakes are delicious too. Korean brisket sandwich could be a bit spicy but otherwise good. And the warm blueberry crisp is out of this world. Not too sweet. I wanted to love this place, but feel it is more about feel than food. Tried this place out on a whim, for lunch. The ambience is top notch. It looks like an old-timey movie theater and inside they have these large painted circus advertisements hanging from the ceiling. The service was impeccable and the menu was short and to the point. Started off with the trio of soups and they were tasty, but I was glad I went with the sampler, as I don't think I would have liked to have a whole cup or bowl of any of them other than the mushroom soup. For an app, we ended trying the confit flatbread. The duck was dry and the dish itself was too sweet. For the mains we got the reuben and chicken sandwich. The corned beef was pretty dry. The chicken sandwich would appear to be spicy and super sweet. Also found the fires to be way to salty. Overall, loved the atmosphere and would possibly go for drink or dessert, but don't feel the need to try again for a meal. read more

I come to Three Cats pretty regularly and it's always a great dining experience. The bartenders are fantastic and willing to make anything. The food is always tasty and well presented. And the Pot Du Crème is my absolute favorite dessert! Staff is always friendly (sometimes literally addressing the tables as "friends") and the decorations and plethora of cards always have me staying a few minutes after the meal to look around. This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area with (in my opinion) the best bartenders and food. read more

The location is super unique and has a great ambiance, just like Leon and Lulu next door. Our server was attentive and was great at making food and wine recommendations. Unfortunately everything else was a miss for me. There are only a few tables that are designed to seat smaller parties of 1-4. The rest are all very large which results in either having to share a table with strangers or having 2 people sitting at a table for 8. The menu is definitely unique but the portions are SMALL. A full grown man is guaranteed to leave feeling like they barely ate. The fish I ordered was a limited time item that had maybe 3 bites worth of fish, a tablespoon of a seaweed salad and a few orange slices. This is a really unique restaurant in downtown Clawson. I'd heard it had a really cool decor but that was an understatement!! It is an eclectic mix of many types of seating surrounded by all sorts of decorations from various chandeliers, books, vases..... you name it. It's the very definition of eclectic!! And the menu is the same. Our server, Ryan, was one of the most pleasant waiters my wife and I have experienced ever!! So upbeat and helpful in helping us navigate the diverse menu. Everything looked so good and we could only eat so much, he helped us out in choosing. We started with the mushroom bisque, creamy and delicious. Then had the Sy Ginsberg dumplings, yummy. We ordered 3 shareable entrees. The short ribs, sooo tender in a yummy sauce with a really tasty beet side. The tenderloin in a delicious sauce with a pasta in a delicious sauce. The scallops, perfectly seared with a unique fruity vegetable side. Delicious!! Ok...let's box up some of this stuff for tomorrow so that we can do dessert. We had the cherry/bourbon bread pudding. Do I need to say it again? Yum!! There are lots of restaurants in Metro Detroit, and many are great, but this place gets 5 stars each for decor, service, and food!! Look for this place to join the lists for Detroit's top restaurants. Go here before it gets too busy.
