The servers were excellent and the food was absolutely delicious and well presented. I had an amazing New Zealand Rack of Lamb cooked perfectly at medium rare, and my husband had Chicken Picata. Another member had the Roast Pork Tenderloin with Whipped Potatoes.....Everyone in the group said that their entree was delicious, and the fact that it was such a large group and that they did very well making sure everyone was taken care of, was quite wonderful. The food was delicious! I wish I had come more hungry! We made a late reservation at 9pm on a Saturday and the place was pretty empty. The homemade bread that was served complimentary was soft and flavorful. I had the mahi mahi and my fiancé had the chicken dish. Both were super filling and came out quickly. We were celebrating his birthday so I was hoping they would acknowledge that since I had put it on the reservation but they didn't. When I'm back in the area, I'd definitely go back! During our three night stay in Corning, NY my girlfriend and I chose to have our fancy meal at Three Birds Restaurant. Situated in the Gaffer District (a strip of historic buildings that house small businesses, shops, galleries, pubs, a movie theater, and the Rockwell Museum) Three Birds Restaurant is a fine dining French Restaurant. We sat at the bar while waiting for 5pm to roll around, this is the earliest you can have food although the hours on the door entrance state 4pm (apparently bar opens at 4pm-main dining area 5pm). I asked if the bartender could make me up a Pear Martini, she looked a little perplexed, and showed me a bottle that was unlabeled and said this one smells of Pear but could not recall what it was lol. After perusing the drink menu, I selected the Golden Meadow ( Maid of the Meadow Honey Vodka, Massenez Golden 8 Pear Liqueur, Prosecco, and Lemon). The drink was okay, a lot sweeter than a Pear Martini and coming in price wise at the tippy top of what I would be willing to shell out for a drink that does not come with flames on it or something very unique. I advise to pass on most of their cocktails and stick to the wine. Shrimp Cocktail - I have a hard line rule, if the shrimp cocktail does not look like it came out of the ocean, was de-veined, and taste like shrimp that was caught out of a body of water you fail. The shrimp here as presented and taste wise looked like they could have gotten it out of a local supermarket. It was edible but not fine dining quality shrimp. Scallops - Scallops were charred. The presentation was nice however if your eating the scallop I am going to go out on a limb here and say your taste buds are not going to love the charred taste. Maple Leaf Duck - The duck tasted very gamey. This could have been partially my fault as I had it cooked medium. The parsnip puree, wilted kale, and roasted Autumn vegetables were delicious that came with the ducks, I will definitely give credit where credit is due there. Also, the duck had roasted shallot-port wine demi sauce you could dip your duck into which was very delicious pairing. The meal started off on a sour note as we asked to be seated at another table (the entire restaurant was empty for dining) and were told that the table we wanted to sit in was already reserved and we could not be moved.....really? As we dined and saw only one other table being sat at a different table that was not the one we requested, it definitely makes you scratch your head. Especially as my girlfriend had a pretty bad headache that the waitress visibly saw however we were still seated closer to the music? At the price point we paid for two people I expect better service....actually I just expect better service regardless of the price point per meal. As always people SYOY!!! read more

Service and ambience were very nice. Our server was friendly and prompt. She was attentive and kept our water glasses full. The restaurant is dark -- black tablecloths and gray/black walls -- but feels spacious because of high ceilings and well-spaced tables. There's also a huge front window and a nice bar. We had the cocktail special, a blueberry-pineapple gin martini, the creamy chicken Florentine soup, a Caesar salad, the chicken piccata, one of the night's specials, Lobster Thermidor, and key lime pie. The soup and chicken piccata were tasty enough, but the drink could've used less pineapple juice and more gin; the Caesar salad was very overdressed; and there should've been a lot more lobster in my Lobster Thermidor. The best was the key lime pie, which had a lot of lime zest but wasn't too tart. Considering the cost, I couldn't give Three Birds higher than a 3. read more

I just so happened to come to this place for dinner and I was impressed. The ambiance is pretty casual and our waitress was so nice.we tried the mussels which were really really good. They make their own bread and they put garlic and herb on it. The bread was absolutely delicious! They also give you a lot so I took it home. I loved the bread with the sauce for the mussels. My date got the rib eye steak which was so good. I tried the bacon wrapped steak. I thought the flavor was good, however, it comes Philadelphia style which means it's very rare and I wasn't a fan of the texture of a steak that rare. I also felt like I could taste the blood a little. So it wasn't my preference but it was good otherwise. The mashed potatoes were a bit too salty but were definitely seasoned. The broccoli was good too. We also had wine and we chose one of the sweeter reds on the menu but it ended up being pretty dry still. So if you like dry wine, this place has plenty. read more

I wouldn't normally do a review this far away from home but this gem in Corning, NY must be proclaimed. My son and daughter-in-law live in Corning. It's a quaint little city of about 15,000 where probably about 70% of the people actually work for Corning and they have your good burger places and an excellent pizza place but this was fine dining at its best. The ambiance is immaculate. The wait staff was truly some of the best I've ever encountered. They were very knowledgeable of the entire menu we're able to make suggestions and we're constantly checking on us. The presentation of the food and the flavors were reminiscent of something you would get from a Michelin star restaurant. We started off with the Papa Rellenas which were mushroom stuffed Peruvian potatoes with a cilantro lime sauce. They were absolutely fantastic although for the price I would have liked to have seen a few more or would have liked them to be a little bit larger. My daughter-in-law ordered the Maple leaf duck breast which came with dauphinoise potatoes, brussel sprouts covered in bacon and an orange balsamic glaze sauce. She absolutely loved the entire dish and the duck was cooked perfectly. My wife and son ordered the roasted vegetable etouffee which was served over rice with a coconut cream sauce. It was more of a vegetable risotto because it was super creamy and extremely flavorful I had a bite or two of my wives and it was fantastic. I decided to get the half rack New Zealand lamb chops and they were served over Rosemary mashed potatoes with pickled red onions with an Apple cognac cream and Cherry balsamic drizzle. Now I have already explained that this was a fine dining experience but as I started to cut the chops off the bone I quickly decided that I would be showing more of my North Carolina redneck personality and proceeded to pick the bones up and gnaw off the little tiny tidbits of meat because I certainly was not going to leave any. The lamb was cooked absolutely perfect medium rare to medium super tender super juicy and full of flavor. The half rack was more than enough for someone who maybe competes and eating competitions you might want to go for the full rack. This is a pretty small restaurant in the downtown area on the main street of a small city small town but if you're ever in Corning or if you're ever going past it I would certainly encourage you to make a detour possibly go see the glass museum and also spend an amazing. Of time dining here because you will not be disappointed. read more

Stopped in Corning this evening on way to PGA Championship. Great dinner tonight at 3 Birds with business associates and friends. The food is exceptional but our new friend Faith is even better! The table enjoyed steaks, lamb, chicken as well as great fish soup and wedge salads. All dishes were cooked perfectly and the kitchen was very good to make some substitution a on side dishes as well. My wife and I had reservations for 6:30. We arrived on time and were seated right away. We didn't see our waitress for almost 10 minutes. She took our drink order, appetizer, and meal order all at the same time. The wine was brought in a timely manner, but the appetizer took quite a while. We noticed the couple adjacent to us, who arrived 15 minutes after us, received their appetizer before we did. Forty five minutes after we ordered our entrees still had not arrived and our waitress was nowhere to be seen. I went to another waitress and asked for a manager. Miraculously our waitress arrived with our food. The chef came out and said there was no manager on duty. The food was good, but the service was terrible. Our wine was not poured nor were our appetizer plates removed. My steak was $61.00 and at that price point the service should be excellent. I hesitate to give five stars after only one visit, but if my first visit was any indication.... In town for business, I relied on a couple of local contacts for a dinner recommendation, and Three Birds was on their short list. Arriving shortly after its 5 p.m. opening, I found a seat at the bar and was greeted immediately. The bartender offered a menu, a drink (if I already knew -- which I did) and generally made me feel at home. Part of the dynamic of visiting a small town is that folks know their neighbors, and they know if you're not one of them. When they know and treat you like a neighbor anyway, you KNOW you're in a good place. Such was the case at Three Birds. And the food....wow! As it was my first time, I HAD to try the "Three Birds Harbor Fish Soup" - a lobster broth with a mélange of seafood and potatoes in a very tasty, clear broth. Much lighter than a cream-based clam chowder and MUCH more interesting! I initially thought it needed more salt but the more I took the time to savor, the more I realized it was seasoned perfectly! It was so good, I recommended it to a couple who'd been to Three Birds before but not tried the soup. They were very glad I'd recommended it. My barkeep brought fresh bread with the soup, which would last through the salad course of mixed baby greens, crumbled bleu cheese with cherry tomatoes and very lightly dressed with a Modena-balsamic dressing. A second glass of Sauv Blanc (Marlboro New Zealand, of course) and I was done for one night, but I'm sure I'll be back to sample the place's other offerings. Despite a small problem getting seated in a preferred location, not in the pit area, we ended up with a great table by the window for four of us. The restaurant was very busy (a good sign) on this Friday, so service was understandably a bit slow. We ordered drinks and eventually we all settled on having the mahi-mahi main entree. It was delicious! We have been coming here for years, so we know what to expect. The bar area is always crowded and a bit noisy. Went for my birthday didn't know what to expect from a place that calls it self upscale and romantic and has axe throwing. It was upscale and romantic - axe throwing is on third floor so good separation. Food was excellent! Enjoyed very much! Had the clams for app just the right amount of spice! Had lamb chops (small 4 chops - can get large) cooked to perfection! I was glad we were in a corner as I picked up The bones to get every last piece. Husband ordered seafood said it was delicious. On a trip to Lake Seneca, My wife and I decided to check out the town of Corning NY. We didn't do the glass museum or anything, we were just looking for a nice dinner to start our trip. I found Three Birds with the help of my fellow Yelpers and a little research of the town. The restaurant opened at 5 on Wednesday, so I booked a 5:15 so as not to open the place. I used Open Table and requested the table by the window. We arrived at 5:15 and happily were seated at the table right by the window. Surprisingly, there were already some other tables filled. A half hour into our dinner the room was pretty filled with what appeared to be people walking in and people with reservations. If you do have to wait for a table, the bar looks very big and like a nice place to hang and wait for a table. I did see a Bar menu online. After seated, we ordered some wine and looked at menus. We got some warm bread and there was olive oil on the table. We we offered more but declined. I had an idea of the menu from looking at the Three Birds website which is actually very good. We had not eaten all day and I'm always worried about portion sizes, so we ordered 2 apps. We ordered the short rib tagliatelle which I liked alot and ordered crab cake, which was one crab cake with some roasted corn. That was ok. My wife got a caesar salad and I got a cup of the Harbor Fish soup. The soup was pretty outstanding, probably the best thing I had all night and I wish I got the bowl. Don't pass it up. For entrees, I got the Veal Osso Buco and my wife got the scallops for $54 and $52 respectively. I always worry about getting scallops because the portion size and price. My wife was strongly debating between scallops and the eggplant (which looked really good online) She probably should have went with eggplant. The scallops weren't bad, but it was 4 scallops on a bed of red pepper risotto. My veal was real good, I wasn't in love with the Risotto alla Milanese, but that's on me. I would have been in heaven if it was, let's say a mushroom risotto. I was surprisingly very stuffed after everything, which was nice. My wife and I looked at dessert, but decided to make our way to Lake Seneca. Overall for dinner, I am much more understanding in the post pandemic world of service being off and staff struggling. This was definitely the case tonight, at times. The bill wasn't crazy expensive and the room is quaint and a overall a nice restaurant. A big city kind of feel. I can't give half stars, but definitely 3 1/2 stars. I just wish the menu had a couple more options. Again with the world today, the prices were not cheap but not stupid expensive. I remember seeing steaks on the menu that were cheaper than our two entrees. Three Birds was about a 30 minute detour for us, so I don't find myself ever back in Corning NY, but if you are in town, Three Birds is worth a look. read more

I was in Corning for a couple days vacation and took my girlfriend to Three Birds to celebrate her birthday. We had a fabulous evening with great food, great service and wonderful ambiance. We started with a couple of their signature cocktails and a dozen oysters. The drinks and oysters were superb. For entrees we selected the Salmon and Lasagne. The portions were large and delicious. Really enough for two meals. The waitress offered free desert with our birthday dinner and we split a Tiramisu with espresso. Again, they were both spectacular. We have eaten here on trips to Corning. Three years ago the food was very creative and a culinary joy. Over the past 2 years the restaurant has steadily gone downhill. Ignore the outdated decor; the food is great. Excellent service in both the dining room (by Sheila) and bar area (by John S). Reservations are a must, even during the week. If you don't plan ahead, and there are no tables available, DO sit in the bar area; the food is that good and you may order from the bar menu as well as the full restaurant menu. We visited twice on our recent one-week vacation to the Finger Lakes. On both visits, I enjoyed the SWEET watercress strawberry watermelon salad; the fruit was SWEET and so was the dressing which tasted like it contained pureed fresh strawberries. On both visits, I ordered the hummus appetizer. The first time, I was served a trio of delicious hummus recipes and one was tastier than the other. On my second visit, I was served red pepper hummus which was OK but not as enjoyable as the flavors I had on the first visit. Three is better than one. I recommend the peach cobbler dessert. Braised short ribs and risotto was delicious...my hubby tried the jambalaya, which he enjoyed. Kids tried the pecan crusted pork, the duck, and the salmon--everyone liked what they got!! The only only slight disappointment were the drinks--not that they were bad at all, but didn't seem as described--for example, my one daughter ordered a drink that mentioned lime, but there wasn't even s hint of citrus at all. And we felt like 3 or 4 were in the wrong type of glass--the bartender seemed to favor a martini glass even for drinks that should have been in a rocks glass and one that should have been served in a champagne flute. As I said, they weren't bad, just not as expected. We tried 2 of the desserts, the key lime pie and the crème brûlée-- both good! This was just shy of 5 stars! I have nothing but positive things to say about this restaurant. I made a reservation in advance for 7 PM and was seated right away at a nice table by the front with plenty of light and a view of the street outside. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive- she made sure that we got all of our needs addressed. We got the oysters and soup to start, with some bread & butter. Oysters and soup were good, bread was better than expected! Can always appreciate a place with nice bread For entrees, I tried the New York strip with herb butter and mahi mahi. Ate dinner on a Thursday evening here, I would recommend making reservations even on week nights as it was crowded. Had the scallops, which were excellent and shared a bottle of local wine from the FLX region. The steamed asparagus which came with scallops was over cooked and bland. While the decor could use a little updating, it is still a pleasant vibe. We were greeted promptly when we entered and seated very soon. This was my first In restaurant dining experience in 8 months due to Covid and I'm very glad I selected Three Birds. I ordered the carb cake starter, the pecan crusted pork tenderloin and tiramisu which I took to go. I am currently 8 months pregnant and very picky about my food right now and turned off by various textures and nothing here grossed me out. I was hesitant to order the crab cakes, more often than not the ones you get in restaurants lack meat and are just fillers. Or the sauce that comes with them is just blah. This cake did not disappoint, it was a different sauce than you would normally get but was still tasty and the cake was nice and crispy. The pecan tenderloin was served over mashed potatoes and asparagus. Not sure what else to say other than everything was perfect. The potatoes were not over whipped, the meat was not under cooked but cooked perfect for me and the sauce it came with was delicious. The pork was also cut pretty thin, like 1/4 inch which was perfect for me cause of pregnant texture issues Finally the tiramisu. I took it to go because I was stuffed from dinner and it still tasted great an hour later. A lot of places will put their spin on tiramisu and make it differently but this tasted like real genuine tiramisu. I was very happy I selected this because I haven't had a quality one in a while.
