Why I shop online…read more I've used a wheelchair for over 40 years. I like shopping locally. I'm used to people talking down to me, treating me like a non-existent black hole. I'm used to people being mean, rude, and condescending. I get that. I live with that. Yesterday I went into the Mountain Trails store on the Loudoun Street Mall. I've shopped there many times before. The help has always been kind. I use a service dog. He's well trained. He's been in many local stores including the Mountain Trails store. Just this week I spent over $100 in the Mountain Store. Yesterday was one of the most embarrassing episodes of my life. As soon as we rolled through the door a demonic old man began screaming at my dog to get out of his store. "This is my store, and that dog needs to get out", he yelled over and over. He never spoke to me and never used a civil tongue. It was as though he was possessed, screaming, "This is my store, Get out of my store." He was a cretin-like creature spewing a litany of embarrassing, abusive, demeaning shouts that drew the attention of everyone in the Mountain Trails store. Now, he could have come to me expressing his concerns, but he was unable to look me in the eye and speak to me like I was a normal human being. He just kept screaming at my dog. I did what I always do in the face of ignorance, I ignored him, hoping he would just stop. I went to the counter and bought the one object I came for. I paid, and I left. I will never shop at the Mountain Trails again, and I encourage everyone with a disability of any kind to avoid shopping at Mountain Trails on the Loudon Street Mall. Save yourself the embarrassment of the screaming, humiliation, and sadness of this old man. The old man was unable to treat me like the good customer I was. I pity those, like this old man, who harbor, tolerate, and practice such discrimination against all who are different. It is his store as he made perfectly clear and I was unwelcomed. How unfortunate that such bigotry against all who are different gets celebrated. Amazon never sees my wheelchair, my dog, or my disability. And, that is why I will be shopping online. Oh, and it's cheaper, delivered the next day, in any size, color, make or model that my heart desires with a 5% discount every day.

I've visited pretty much every Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops and Sportman's Warehouse store in the area…read more For some reason I had never been to this location until yesterday. First, it was surprised to see they were open till 8pm on a Sunday (12/11/22), which was very convenient. Second, I have to say that this is BY FAR the most organized, clean, well maintained outdoorsman store in the PA-MD-VA-DE areas. They got inventory, everything is exactly where it needs to be, prices are clearly marked and everything is perfectly displayed. The ammo aisle was fully stocked. I saw like 5 brands of 10mm ammo when I could barely find any at the competitors. Other thing I noticed is that much of their display racks are at eye level (for the average person). I never noticed how much of a difference that makes. When I go to Cabela's I have to crouch and dig through the mess which gets really tiring. Finally, I was asked 3 times if I needed help in the 30-45min I spent there. Whoever is managing this location is taking it seriously. Way to go guys, you EASILY earn 5+ stars. I'm totally sold.

Riding the GAP from the Deal Trailhead to Frostburg and ending in Cumberland was mostly, a great…read moreexperience. The views are spectacular, rolling hills and so many colors of green and blue were breathtaking. Mile 9 was NOT our favorite mile. There is trail maintenance happening and that's a GOOD thing, but...the gravel is thick in many areas so riding the bike was sketchy at best. Thankfully it wasn't much more than that mile. I loved the train track right next to the trail and my prayers were answered when, lo and behold, a train appeared! It was stopped so as to clear a fallen tree but once removed (minutes) they were on their way. The train was filled with people who were happy to see bikers on the trail as we were happy to see, and wave at them. Great trail.

He said come on over, stayed open past time on Thursday 2 SEP to help two random out of town bicyclists. He not only helped but let me in the sacred space in the shop and showed me how to deal with the wheel on my Cannondale Topstone...I was afraid of the disc brakes [had tube, levers and pump], but had not practised removing a wheel or bothered to watch a YouTube video. I had spent 32 glorious miles on the GAP with my wonderful spouse...last 2 walked in cleats! Painful lesson on preparing ahead of time...so embarressed and me a boy scout and Army Vet. Thank you Hutch for your service in our brother USAF! Blessings always. I am sure this would be our go-to place if we lived anywhere within an hour...would be totally worth the drive.
