Actually, the review that noted that Weasel Creek Outfitters is no longer open is the best review…read morehere -- shame that Yelp downplayed it so much. Saves all of us a trip to Front Royal. I went to Weasel Creek after Appalachian Outfitters in Vienna, Virginia, closed in 2004. I liked Weasel Creek very much; we got good help there. Too bad it closed. So I agree with the positive review back in 2009 from Seamus O., but I don't think he needs to be so harsh about REI. I've dealt with REI since it was a paper-catalog store in Seattle and I've used their gear in camping all over Canada. Currently, I used the physical store in Fairfax, Virginia, and the folks are helpful and knowledgeable (one I know in the shoe department recently completed an AT through-hike).

The guys at weasel creek will bend over backwards to make sure you are fitted right, let you use the computer, even give you a ride up to the trail if need be; I wish "joe salesman" from the REI in Falls Church would use his hard earned gas to get me to a dropoff point on the AT. Whenever I am hiking in the area I make sure to stop by and say hi to my buds over at Weasel Creek Outfitters.

Why I shop online…read more I've used a wheelchair for over 40 years. I like shopping locally. I'm used to people talking down to me, treating me like a non-existent black hole. I'm used to people being mean, rude, and condescending. I get that. I live with that. Yesterday I went into the Mountain Trails store on the Loudoun Street Mall. I've shopped there many times before. The help has always been kind. I use a service dog. He's well trained. He's been in many local stores including the Mountain Trails store. Just this week I spent over $100 in the Mountain Store. Yesterday was one of the most embarrassing episodes of my life. As soon as we rolled through the door a demonic old man began screaming at my dog to get out of his store. "This is my store, and that dog needs to get out", he yelled over and over. He never spoke to me and never used a civil tongue. It was as though he was possessed, screaming, "This is my store, Get out of my store." He was a cretin-like creature spewing a litany of embarrassing, abusive, demeaning shouts that drew the attention of everyone in the Mountain Trails store. Now, he could have come to me expressing his concerns, but he was unable to look me in the eye and speak to me like I was a normal human being. He just kept screaming at my dog. I did what I always do in the face of ignorance, I ignored him, hoping he would just stop. I went to the counter and bought the one object I came for. I paid, and I left. I will never shop at the Mountain Trails again, and I encourage everyone with a disability of any kind to avoid shopping at Mountain Trails on the Loudon Street Mall. Save yourself the embarrassment of the screaming, humiliation, and sadness of this old man. The old man was unable to treat me like the good customer I was. I pity those, like this old man, who harbor, tolerate, and practice such discrimination against all who are different. It is his store as he made perfectly clear and I was unwelcomed. How unfortunate that such bigotry against all who are different gets celebrated. Amazon never sees my wheelchair, my dog, or my disability. And, that is why I will be shopping online. Oh, and it's cheaper, delivered the next day, in any size, color, make or model that my heart desires with a 5% discount every day.

What a good HAWT time!…read more We came on a Saturday, mid August, and had a good, relaxing time. Besides the heat trying to take me out, I had absolutely no complaints. Front Royal Outdoors had their logistics in order from start (parking) to the brief bus ride, all the way to finish (exit). Our party all opted to do the deluxe tube (approximately $41 for the entire experience) that offered more support (a place to hold your beverage of choice) and the possibility to maximize on one's lazy river experience. As an FYI, every "order" of course came with a life jacket. The river itself was calm and effortless, for the most part. I think our experience was a little over 3.5 hours. My only recommendation would be to hydrate and find a time/date where the heat is not doing what it does best.... drains ya.

Just by this alone, this place has there shi1 together and that's what's important on missions like river rafting basically unsupervised. How slow or fast the river is they cannot control but everything else looks as if it is taken care of. Good job to all!
