I've been going to FMJ for little over 6 years now and all I can say is, if you haven't visited already and you're in the area. You're missing out. The crew there is always on top of it. I became a regular at the store and sadly moved away in the beginning of 2025. But I still purchase items for work through them because the prices cannot be beat. FMJ is like no other military surplus store I've ever been to. The selection is better than anything I've seen. Over the years I've collected many different items. Some for work, others for my home office collection. But every time I enter the store, for better or worse I always leave with something. They stay busy on social media as well and are very interactive. Check them out on Instagram if you have one, sometimes you can see some of the surplus on there before it hits their shelves. Easiest 5/5 stars I've ever given. Next time I'm in the DMV I will be stopping by. It's tradition at this point. read more

Military supply store with a collection of vintage and modern military items. Parking was easy to find and spacious. The front entrance of the store is magnificent and not hard to miss. Very well executed. The store is very clean and well organized. The most eye catching items I noticed in the store were the grenades and the set of bullets from the 1800s. I selected one grenade for purchase. read more

Outstanding customer service. Great products with a professional knowledge of military memorabilia

My nape pad was missing upon turning my CIF in for EAS. USMC real nape pads are extremely hard to find, no military surplus stores in the area had any for weeks so I checked out this website and decided to bite the bullet. It was a bit pricey however it's better than filling out a missing gear statement and getting investigated for missing gear. Ordered late on Friday afternoon and it came early Monday afternoon. Brand new still inside factory packaging with original manual. Thank you FMJ read more

The owner and employees are amazing! My son is 13 and he loves to come get gear for Airsoft and look for some cool collector pieces, but I think his favorite part is talking shop with the guys/employees. Great place! read more

I was able to visit the store on my next trip to the area this week. Very nice place and friendly staff.

Pricing isn't bad, not bad selection. Wish they had spiritus products is my only complaint.

What a really cool place!!! My son was performing the play, Dog Fight and needed dog tags. Being the daughter of a WWII Navy Vet & sister of two former Marines, off we went on our quest to find a military store. This place is small, compared to a lot of surplus stores, but stocked with all sorts of gear and memorabilia. We spent a good twenty minutes just perusing the store, and we weren't the only ones. It seemed every customs was doing the same. It is just a really cool place. When we were ready to get our tags, the gentleman helping us could not have been any nicer or knowledgeable. They actually had authentic WWII dog tags, which are unique and not like the others. We stood there in awe as he explained why they were different and then we watched in complete amazement as he used an authentic machine to make them! WOW! We were treated to a mini history lesson right then & there. As we were leaving, two uniformed police officers rolled in. You know it's a great shop if they are going there. This place is fantastic. wether you are in need of something specific or just want to go and peruse. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Alexandria. I came in here recently and got an entrenching tool, some paracord, a canteen, and a few other things. The prices overall are reasonable, with a good selection. If you are into military surplus, come here. No complaints. read more

Store has massively changed from the first time I went in there. The first time we went in there. It was great. It was like a true surplus, a piles of stuff you dug through and look through. It had to smell of a surplus store. Now it's more of a retail store with glass cases and a smaller amount of surplus read more

What a delightful surplus store. The co-owner helped me out personally with turn-ins and requests, incredibly helpful and kind. Clean and organized store-front. read more

Came in looking for a pair of decent UV protected running shades. This place exceeded my expectations!! What should I have expected? This surplus store is named "Full Metal Jacket." THEY...HAVE...IT...ALL! Plus mad helpful and educating. Going back for a Bomber or Flight Jacket next. Check em out!! L Dub. read more

Solid guys offering a decent price on gear. Took in a box of gear - left with $250. They'll have to sit on it for a while but they got a good deal. I have some beer money. If you have the time to sell online do it but these guys will give you cash money for good gear. read more

Absolutely wonderful shop stuffed to the brim with vintage (as well as new/newer) gear. The employees were personable and knowledgeable and let me rummage through boxes of old buttons to my heart's content. The employees also knew what each item was as I pointed stuff out and asked - which sounds like a basic tenet of any job, but we all know that isn't always the case - these guys could give detailed history, accounts and also pull apart anything to show details. Pretty awesome! They have an incredible selection of uniforms, memorabilia, and various accoutrements. Apparently they do a fair bit of business for costuming or scene/room decorating. If I ever need some niche military/LEO item I absolutely know who I'm reaching out to first. Shop also has a fantastic Instagram account and they also let me have some of their coffee. read more

Great store. Hidden from the road. I don't know any other stores that have a decent selection of folding knives especially Benchmades.

Friendly staff, awesome variety of tactical gear from magazines, to packs, knives and NVGS.

Best place ,nice staff, Been a Customer for 2 decades There's much I can say If you like military History and relics they're worth a look in Located off Duke street , Just drive down beside the post office ,follow street around to the right and you'll see it. read more

I visited this store last Saturday with my teenage daughter--she wanted to get some real combat boots and an army jacket. There is so much to look at, and the prices on vintage/used items are great! The owner helped us figure out sizes, and even threw in a couple of cool stickers for free as we were checking out. We will definitely be back! read more

"4212. Basic Military Journalism. You gotta be shittin' me, Joker. You think you're Mickey Spillane? You think you're some kind of a fuckin' writer?" Why is it so hard to find a purveyor of military supplies and memorabilia in the metro DC area? Growing up in Michigan, there were two army surplus stores in my rinky-dink hometown. And even the tree-hugging city of Ann Arbor has a huge army surplus store on campus. I figured that since DC was the capital of the world's greatest and spendingest military power, there would be plenty of sources for camouflage and carabineers. Boy was I wrong. Luckily I found Full Metal Jacket in my backyard. They used to be located on the water in Old Town on Prince St, but moved a few years ago. Although the size of the store does not compare to the places the Michigan Militia members would be accustom to, they carry a decent selection of uniforms from each of the armed forces branches, lots of head and foot gear, and some memorabilia. No guns or live grenades, though... at least not displayed for the average consumer to see. My reason for checking this place out was because I did not want to have welts all over my body - aka camo for paint balling. Since I don't look like your typical Marine or trench combat aficionado, the guys behind the counter probably sized me up as a curious browser and left me alone. It was easy to find what I needed and the prices are reasonable. Based on the conversation that the staff were having with their niche customers, it sounded like they were friendly and knew what they were talking about. It's too bad they had to move out of Old Town as a place like this really adds to the charm and kitsch of the neighborhood. Also, they have bug repellent from 1966 in stock! Like wine and myself, I'm sure this stuff gets better with age. I'm ordering a case. read more

The staff here is always friendly and knowledgeable. Prior to their move to the South Dove St location, I would have given them 5 stars, but their new location isn't so great. It's a pain in the ass to get to and it's smaller. It could be my imagination but I feel like it has a much smaller stock now. It's always a hit or miss here. Sometimes you can find some real gems, but it's mostly luck. Prices are generally good & always remember to ask them to check in the back. read more

FMJ has a long history in Northern VA. For many years it occupied a quasi-historical building on the Alexandria waterfront, downstairs from Potomac Arms Corporation and across the street from the old Interarms warehouse. A few years ago, the city of Alexandria drove FMJ and Potomac Arms away with one of those "offers you can't refuse" that only a government can make. Potomac Arms went out of business, but FMJ carried on in its new location in a small industrial/commercial park on Dove Street in Alexandria, where they're guaranteed to get virtually no foot traffic. Never mind, many of customers they've been cultivating over the years - including some names that militaria or gun collectors nationwide would recognize - keep coming back. FMJ focuses mostly on original military surplus items, most of which they buy from area collectors or the numerous military members stationed in the National Capital Region. But if you're thinking of selling your gear to FMJ, be aware that like most surplus stores, they'll pay you very little for it - unless you have something truly out of the ordinary. FMJ seems to avoid stocking the ubiquitous reproduction items, like the Chinese-made MA-1s you'll find at surplus chains like Sunny's Surplus. FMJ does, however, carry a decent selection of Propper BDUs in several colors and sizes, and some of the higher-quality repros that for the cost-conscious military member will pass off as the official issue item. FMJ also has a "collector's cabinet" where a few higher-valued collector's items are kept. Their selection of this class of items is quite limited, though - nothing like, for example, the militaria selection carried by Classic Firearms in Virginia Beach. FMJ's prices, whether on collectible items or not, are somewhat inconsistent. Some items will be great bargains, whereas others will be significantly inflated. Most will be somewhere in the middle. I have always found, though, that Mark (one of the owners) and most of the staff are open to negotiating prices - to an extent. Though profit margins in the surplus business are relatively high, the volume of sales must be low at FMJ's easily overlooked location on Dove Street. But FMJ also supplies quantities of uniforms and other products to commercial customers, and I bet it's these sales that keep them in business. Bottom line: if you're a militaria collector or just casually interested in military surplus and you're in the Alexandria area, stop by FMJ. This is as pedigreed a business as a military surplus store can be. Plus, the staff is friendly, interesting, and they know every militaria collector in Northern VA worth knowing. read more

Customer service is great. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to help. I went in there to get some True spec gear and I showed him want I was looking for and he knew exactly what to order and did. Well that being said I told him the "story" of what this was for. He quickly informs me that true spec is great gear but would not hold up for my "adventure". He showed me what I really needed and that I wouldn't be buying new gear every year. Yes it was more expensive than I was planning to spend but you pay for what you get. Overall it's a great place. They'll get more of my $$ read more

I ordered a uniform (the new snazzy lightweight Air Force uniform) and a few other odds and ends from FMJ a few weeks ago. I live in San Diego, but have military duty in Tucson... that can be a 50F delta in just an hour. I also work outside all day on a hot flightline with running F-16s adding additional heat, but enough of the background. When my uniform did not magically appear within a few days, I contacted FMJ and was told they were holding it until the other items came back in stock, but could ship it early if I needed it. I explained my situation and guess what???? Two days later my uniform appeared on my doorstep, sent two day mail! I was sooo happy and appreciative I sent a thank you, and got a nice response back as well. This is my first, but absolutely not my last purchase from FMJ. Thanks you guys! read more

I am the last person one would expect to be visiting a military store. If I'm honest with myself, I stick out like a sore thumb or the civilian that I am. However, this place is such a hidden gem. I have a job with the DoD and it requires me to deploy to the various places. I got a LBT plate carrier here and it broke during training. I took it back, months after I had bought it, no reciept and they handed over a new one like no big thing. Also, a good place to get 550 cord, cyalume, other bits and pieces to make sure your TDY is a little smoother. Also, they have some pretty rad actual surplus items from wars pasts. It's crammed back away on Dove, which is off of Duke. A little hidden.. read more

Sold a few items here for very reasonable prices (I was told what the mark up would be, why it was that figure, and what I could get from the sale), and even got a badass black patrol hat while I was there :) I could spend all day here window-shopping at all the cool stuff they have. When retired I had two decades of uniforms and extra TA-50 I'd purchased and been issued that CIF did not want. I was however short one IFAK insert. CIF at Belvoir recommended Full Metal Jacket. I was surprised they had exactly what I needed to clear CIF and retire without going through a statement of charges for five times what I paid at the store. FullMetal Jacket also purchased two TAT boxes full of BDUs, DCUs and assorted web gear. They gave me a fair price on that and charged me a fair price on the IFAK insert. They are now my go to store if I need any field gear for camping or shooting classes. Thanks. read more

As I'm sure all of you have experienced, today I found myself in need of a good military surplus store. Like the previous reviewer, I was really astounded at the noticeable lack of surplus shops in the DC area. Fortunately, the one store that I did find (via an obscure reference on the Internet) was actually in the town in which I live (Alexandria). When I drove up to the store, I turned onto the street for it and said, "This doesn't look like the kind of area in which a military surplus shop would be located." Surprisingly, the store was right there...and it was open. Though not a large store, they manage to display a respectable amount of goods...mostly military clothing. Also, like the previous reviewer, I found the staff to be knowledgeable and friendly. In closing, if you wake up tomorrow and have an intense desire to purchase a Russian military hat, some Vietnam-era mosquito netting, a camouflage uniform, or some other essential, then don't hesitate to check out Full Metal Jacket in Alexandria. read more

I walked into the store and ordered a Surefire flashlight through a store employee. The employee had the Surefire product catalog in his hand and I verified he had the correct product number. I paid up front and in full ($135). He said it would take 5-6 days to arrive. The next day the owner called me and said I would need to pay an additional 30 something dollars to get that model. I said no and asked for a refund. I went back into the store for the refund and the owner told me he needed to charge a 8% refund fee. I refused and after some arguing he agreed to finally give me my money back. If the owner was telling the truth about the cost of the flashlight, that means his integrity is worth less than $30. I don't know how many times they try this with other customers but I hate to see them victimize anyone. read more

The staff here are so kind and helpful. They will take the time to look for the item you're seeking and tell you if they have it, over the phone. That's important when you live 75 miles away.
