Why I shop online…read more I've used a wheelchair for over 40 years. I like shopping locally. I'm used to people talking down to me, treating me like a non-existent black hole. I'm used to people being mean, rude, and condescending. I get that. I live with that. Yesterday I went into the Mountain Trails store on the Loudoun Street Mall. I've shopped there many times before. The help has always been kind. I use a service dog. He's well trained. He's been in many local stores including the Mountain Trails store. Just this week I spent over $100 in the Mountain Store. Yesterday was one of the most embarrassing episodes of my life. As soon as we rolled through the door a demonic old man began screaming at my dog to get out of his store. "This is my store, and that dog needs to get out", he yelled over and over. He never spoke to me and never used a civil tongue. It was as though he was possessed, screaming, "This is my store, Get out of my store." He was a cretin-like creature spewing a litany of embarrassing, abusive, demeaning shouts that drew the attention of everyone in the Mountain Trails store. Now, he could have come to me expressing his concerns, but he was unable to look me in the eye and speak to me like I was a normal human being. He just kept screaming at my dog. I did what I always do in the face of ignorance, I ignored him, hoping he would just stop. I went to the counter and bought the one object I came for. I paid, and I left. I will never shop at the Mountain Trails again, and I encourage everyone with a disability of any kind to avoid shopping at Mountain Trails on the Loudon Street Mall. Save yourself the embarrassment of the screaming, humiliation, and sadness of this old man. The old man was unable to treat me like the good customer I was. I pity those, like this old man, who harbor, tolerate, and practice such discrimination against all who are different. It is his store as he made perfectly clear and I was unwelcomed. How unfortunate that such bigotry against all who are different gets celebrated. Amazon never sees my wheelchair, my dog, or my disability. And, that is why I will be shopping online. Oh, and it's cheaper, delivered the next day, in any size, color, make or model that my heart desires with a 5% discount every day.

I've been going to FMJ for little over 6 years now and all I can say is, if you haven't visited…read morealready and you're in the area. You're missing out. The crew there is always on top of it. I became a regular at the store and sadly moved away in the beginning of 2025. But I still purchase items for work through them because the prices cannot be beat. FMJ is like no other military surplus store I've ever been to. The selection is better than anything I've seen. Over the years I've collected many different items. Some for work, others for my home office collection. But every time I enter the store, for better or worse I always leave with something. They stay busy on social media as well and are very interactive. Check them out on Instagram if you have one, sometimes you can see some of the surplus on there before it hits their shelves. Easiest 5/5 stars I've ever given. Next time I'm in the DMV I will be stopping by. It's tradition at this point.

More like 3.5 stars. Tubing on the river was fun and our family of 5 enjoyed it. Our kids are 5-9…read moreyears old so we had to keep an extra eye on them and help them a little. We used the strap that came with the cooler tube to strap my youngest child's tube to another one. One employee told us we could purchase another strap to tether them together but then the employee in the shop kind of scoffed and said it wouldn't necessary. It was definitely necessary! We had to paddle after all the kids cause their arms and legs are too short to even reach the water and paddle themselves. The employees really didn't do a whole lot of customer service so I'm not really sure the tip (which was paid in advance) was worth it. We even had to carry all our tubes all the way back up the hill after we finished. The river itself is mostly calm and it is a beautiful area. But there was quite a bit of algae/scum in the slower moving water which grossed out the kids lol. And the island where we stopped to each lunch had some trash on it. Overall tubing was a good experience but the $200+ price felt like a lot for what it was.

I don't know, I see what I assume to be the same guy mentioned in several other reviews) was *incredibly* rude. I can't understand this; I own a business and if I ever spoke to a client like that, they would never hire me again. So I guess he doesn't count on repeat business? The guy driving the shuttle was nice enough but I also don't understand this whole tip jar thing for boating companies. All the guys do is drive us a few minutes down the road and unload gear. Is that not their literal job? Why isn't the company paying them a living wage? I'd definitely scope out other places given the customer service at this place

I've not been fly fishing in over 10 years - a circumstance that was dictated by work conditions/schedules and finances. I stopped off at The Red Shed to purchase my Virginia fishing licenses: I bought the general freshwater license, trout license, and National Forest stamp. The Red Shed is an interesting little business - part of the Clark Brothers Gun shop emporium. The Red Shed sells licenses, fishing equipment, bait, some hunting gear, and lots of touristy knick-knacks.

Recently purchasing a few items and approaching the register I was neither recognized nor addressed. The associate seemed entirely focused on what appeared to be a cordial conversation that bordered on business albeit with a convivial flair. P for this but the singular culprit of what I feel is shoddy treatment of a customer.
