This is not just one bad experience--it's been multiple disasters in a row. It started with a very expensive goat leather jacket. When I brought it in, I was actually asked if it was even real leather and told it "wasn't worth it" to clean. I insisted anyway, and when I picked up my brand new jacket, all the gold buttons were scratched up. Next was a suit jacket. Instead of being properly dry cleaned, the material came back fringed and agitated. When I pointed this out, I was blamed and told, "That's just how it is--use a lint roller." Absolutely ridiculous. Finally, a pair of tan corduroy pants with just a small drop of chocolate milk. This should have been a quick, easy job. Instead, I got them back with the stain still there and the pants completely ruined--bleached and discolored beyond repair. The staff shrugged, said there was nothing they could do, and offered me store credit. As if I'd ever risk another piece of clothing here again. If you have cheap, replaceable clothes you don't care about, maybe this place is worth the gamble. But if your garments are valuable, irreplaceable, or simply matter to you--DO NOT go here. No- Perhaps I am used to San Francisco Laundry/Dry Cleaning...When I returned to pick-up my order I was charged $17.50 !! For 2 shirts. This is the "PINK" TAX just because my shirts are women's they charge more. There is a California law prohibiting gender bias for this type of company. We thought it looked fine when we bought it but decided to have it cleaned before alterations. After cleaning it was stunning! They were also very reasonably priced. I had two good and trustworthy references for this place so I was not worried about my garments. BUT, the first order I picked up, none of the spots on any of my garments were out. And the fabric on a pair of pants was discolored around the spot from them trying to scrub it. I took some dish soap to it and it came out and dried just fine. The second order was a duvet cover with spots on it. I picked it up and spots were still there. He told me to bring it back in and when I did, he argued with me that he worked so hard at it to get them removed. So hard apparently, that he left a bleach looking ring around one of the spots so now the duvet is ruined. I told him I was not upset that the spots weren't removed, I was upset that they failed to tell me he couldn't get the spots out and then went on to ruin it. He pulled out a $10 from the cash drawer and I walked out. read more

Through my freak out, I took this dress to Thompson cleaners. The owner was very realistic and honest with me. He didn't promise he could remove the stain before I spent my money. On December 5th, 2015, my husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We had decided to forgo a party because our family has moved so far away and December is such a busy month for everyone we thought it would be just easier to just go out to dinner with our son an his family. However, as the time grew nearer, my husband approached me and suggested that maybe we could just do a quiet vow renewal ceremony with the remaining family and friends we have locally and have a small dinner afterwards. So, in less than two weeks, I planned and organized a formal dinner in our home for fourteen members of our family and I wore the dress my Mother wore for HER fiftieth wedding anniversary party when they celebrated in 1990! The dress had been stored away under the bed in our guest room, wrapped in a sheet in a box all these years, and when I took it out I found that it had champagne stains down the front, a mystery stain in the back where she had sat on something during the evening, and some small perspiration stains under the arms. There were also a few loose beads and sequins. I should mention that this is a full length, white sequin,beaded dinner dress. My folks were married at the start of World War II, in Carson City Nevada. My Grand Parents drove them to Nevada, and they all dressed in suits. My Mom was wearing a deep blue suit with a fur collar and had an orchid corsage. My Dad just wore a Navy business suit. So when they had there fiftieth, I insisted she had to wear a white dress because she missed out the first time around. She was worried she would look too frou frou, but was happy to settle on this dinner dress right out of Dynasty. I very much wanted to wear it for my 50th here in my own home, even though it was a much smaller scale, but it needed to be cleaned. Mr. Shin came highly recommended. I read the comments on Yelp, and thought he looked like the right person for the job. He looked at the dress, but refused to make any promises. He said he would "do the best he could". He also promised to put it in an opaque bag so my husband could pick it up and not see it before he saw me in it "coming down the aisle". Which I thought was very thoughtful since he knew everyone invited, including my husband had seen the dress before when my Mom wore it in 1990! I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome! The dress looked as good as the day she bought it! I was surprised that I could even fit in it, but due to some recent illness, I have lost some weight and it slipped right on, so the dress fit fine, and thanks to Mr. Shin and his magic, I didn't have to worry about any stains left over from the first party. We are going on a cruise to celebrate our anniversary, and the dress turned out so well it's going along with us. It may be out of style, but it's a sentimental favorite! If you have a fragile or special garment that needs special attention, I can recommend Paul Shin and his Magic cleaners with my whole heart. I am including one picture from our vow renewal at home and another from our Sunset vow renewal on the American Queen where the dress took center stage and was the talk of the voyage! I was very appreciative when I called them late on a Friday and they confirmed that they could do same day dry cleaning on a Saturday, but unfortunately that's where it stopped. While they did technically finish the job, the lines on the pants were at a slight diagonal, one of my shirts had a huge crease on the top strip that goes over the buttons and all the suit jackets had the collars folded so high that all the stitching and material on the underside was exposed. I work in a bank and have to maintain a professional appearance, so I will definitely will not be coming back as some of this will have to be redone. Not to mention, this place is more expensive than in San Francisco, even after the first time customer discount! Given I only got a 15% discount after he refused to apply the first time discount on a Saturday. When I opened a heavy tub in storage of hand-loomed Peruvian/Bolivian textiles from the 70s and sniffed it, I lost my voice for 3 days from what must be a mold allergy. I took my wedding dress here to be cleaned before my wedding. It had a little beading in the bust but overall not a lot of embellishments. It had some pleating in the front. Cost- $175!!! Luckily I got a discount from yelp for checking in. = $145 to get it prepped. Well it was cleaned fine, not perfectly that's for sure. But they ripped the pleats in the front and it wasn't pressed in the style that my Maggie Sottero how was designed. They put a few stiches in when I pointed it out, and even though they were very nice, I don't feel like it was worth it at all. My mom took my gown to a different cleaner after the wedding. $85 and it was cleaner and pressed better. Lesson learned! Paying more doesn't always pay off! read more

Dropped off 3 suits last week for dry cleaning. Was offered a 10% discount for being a first-time customer. Great customer service, I think, until I see on their website that all first-timers are normally offered a 15% discount. Whatever... they don't have to offer a discount at all. I'll let it slide. Then, I go to pick up my order. Paul charges me $10 more than quoted. I bring this to his attention and he explains that because they had mis-counted the number of articles (there were two vests they had not initially seen) that the quote was void. He said I would be welcome to pay the quoted price, but I'd have to leave the vests behind. I'm not sure what kind of business you are all used to, but every one I've been a part of eats their loss when they make a mistake. After the death of my father, I found a lot of items he bought for my mother that I had never seen which included a cashmere stole and a gold silk robe. These items had been stored (poorly) for over 50 years and had mold and mildew. The work done restored the robe to perfection! Sadly, even with the best efforts the stole could not be saved. Terrible experience. Just the worst. I brought in a nice leather purse to have it cleaned and conditioned. They advertise that they take care of leather... THEY DO NOT. They completely ruined my purse. It looked as though it had been put through the dry cleaning machine. The leather was stripped, buckled, rough, and discolored. The owner tried to tell me that different parts of the bag are made from different pieces of leather... umm, and ? You ruined my bag, dude, end of story. He tried to "polish" it and, from what I can tell, didn't do a darn thing... This was all after I came back 3 times to pick up the bag. The first 2 times they said it wasn't ready yet. Ok??? Why did you give me a specific date to come back then? I am really disappointed. AND! I stilled paid for this disaster! I just picked up my wedding dress and I am thrilled with the quality of work done by Thompsons Cleaners! I was a bit worried because they pointed out a stain when I dropped it of, but there is no evidence of the stain now. I dropped off $450 worth of dry cleaning off there. I was leaving town for good and so I returned to pick them up. I told the owner that I would not be back and I would not be able to return so be sure I have all of it. He said I had everything and I paid for the dry cleaning. Afterwards I realized my some of my clothes were missing. THEY CALLED me and informed me that they had clothes of mine, and wondered when I could pick them up. At the time I was in Spain so my parents called explaining I wouldn't be back for a few month but to please hold them. When I finally returned, they could not fond my clothes. They said they would continue looking but they never called back. Not only did they loose my clothes but I also paid for the dry cleaning on them.
