Terrible doctor, zero empathy, rude, and have no consideration of the impacts he has on people's lives

This doctor does not even worth 1 star! I would give it "0", but there's no rating for that. Patients BEWARE!!! Dr. Lin may be a "specialist" for his field (whatever that is), but it is out right WRONG to be obnoxious, arrogant, rude and abusive (both mental and verbal) towards any patients, not to mention towards staff members as well. Most of his patients are elderly Asians (Chinese) through referral because they don't know who else to turn to. Therefore, a lot of his patients simply swallow Dr. Lin's abuse and take his nonsense abuse. It's about time someone speak out the TRUTH about this ill-mannered doctor! Many of my parents friends visit Dr. Lin, I'm surprise that people still go to Dr. Lin and not enough patients step up to voice their opinions and speak their minds. Doctors are suppose to be helpful and caring people, not money making leeches as Dr. Lin appears to be. Shame on Dr. Lin. With that said, visit at your own discretion. Hope this review will at least change Dr. Lin's attitude towards patients. If you like abuse, visit Dr. Lin, you sure will get your full dose of it! read more

I was having issues with sleep and digestion. At first he was alright although I do agree with people saying he has terrible maners. When I came back to him after getting a sleep study done he said I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I am aware of the benefits and positive affects of cpap machine, but I wanted to try other options as I travel frequently and it would not be ideal to carry around a machine. As soon as I mentioned trying other altrtnatives rather than a cpap machine his mood completely shifted and it felt like I was spraking to a child. He proceeded to call me an idiot and stupid for not listening to his advice. I did not expect such an unprofessional and childish attitude from him. After telling him that I would rather not using a machine he began writting hard and furioisly while giving me attitude. He became sassy and childish. Even after comfronting him about hid childish behavior he continued to behave in a childish and unprofessional manner. I was really hoping to make him my primary doctor and physician but after seeing his rude, unprofessional, and childish behavior I don't think he is the man for the job. I would not recommend him to anyone unless you like doctors that don't value the opinion of patients. If you want to have a doctor you can be honest and discuss your health problems seriously he is not the person to go to. read more

My husband and I have seen Dr. Lin for almost 10 years. We really appreciate his care and upfront honest manner and importantly his knowledge and experience. Last year upon return from a foreign trip, my husband developed harsh cough and fever, Friday morning we called his office, no vacancy, but later his staff called and said doctor can see him after hour at 5:30pm. Soon as he listened to my husband's lung and measured his temperature, he immediately gave him a shot for pneumonia, and sent him to take an Xray. Later Xray result showed clear sign of pneumonia, he saved my husband having to go to ER that weekend. Last week we came back from a cruise to Hawaii, I suffered symptoms of cough, mild fever, sore throat, running nose, etc. in the fear of Crononavirus, Dr. Lin agreed to squeezed me in to the after hour appointment at 6:00pm. I wore mask, gloves everything needed to prevent spreading. He carefully asked questions and checked my lung, throat, ears, eyes, and legs, then said there is no sign of pneumonia, no worry, just a terrible bad cold virus. He sent me home with prescriptions of nasal spray, cough syrup, that's all, not even any antibiotics. To me, Dr. Lin is a great doctor, not only because his extensive medical knowledge and experience, but also he really cares about his patients, he treats you like his old friends/neighbors, he wants you to be well not just treating the illness you come in for, but for an overall living habit. I have seen Dr. Lin for many years, but I am at the point where I will look for another doctor. He is intelligent, but has a very poor bedside manner- he's getting grumpier with age. I'm seeing a specialist, who is not only much higher on the physician food chain and more qualified than Lin- he's much more than a general practitioner- but he's younger, better looking, and has a great personality as well! I don't care if you're busy and don't have the time of day for your patients, but if you want to rush through your exam and minimize the chit chat, you can still be pleasant to your patients. It's not like there aren't enough physicians in Torrance. Hurry up and retire, you won't be missed. Please note- for his last 10 reviews, only 3 had 5 stars, the other 7 had just 1 star each. My husband saw the doctor last week. When I called for his appointment, the person on the phone told me that he should fast to get blood work done. However, when he went that morning, first they careed about the money (we have Anthem PPO) more than my husband, the patient, then the office is so badly equipped that no blood tests nor other essential tests are performed at the premise. I wonder why he could not eat then? I should have learned from the bad reviews and not have my husband go see this doctor. Such a waste of time that he has to go see another one. Please note that I work for a specialist in Beverly Hills and know a lot of great doctors. I went to one and he did everything at the office, including blood tests, chest x-ray, EKG and bone density. Dr Lin and staff are professional, efficient and have shown me that my health is most important to them. Unlike the previous 1-star complainers here, I do not need to be babied or treated like I am the Dr.'s one and only patient. I do not need for a doctor to come into the exam room with smiles, pamper me like a child or blow smoke up my ass. I'm there to be treated or diagnosed because I feel that something is wrong, and I prefer and appreciate a doctor who presents facts in a direct manner and recommends the best course of action. My friend suggested Dr. Lin as my family doctor. I have been to his office several times. He is very knowledgeable. Unlike many other doctors, he does not rush to the next appointment. Instead, he spends as much time with his patients. He is very straight-forward (get to the point), which some people may feel offended. The first red flag: he trudges into the room and says, "I see your mother and she has similar symptoms." My thoughts: I guess HIPAA guidelines end at his door. Little did he know, I haven't spoken to my mother in years and for a reason. Although a patient should never have to ask for privacy, I had to ask him NOT to divulge my private information to mother. I will never know if he'll honor that. My spouse is a physician and about hit the ceiling as he willfully violated privacy laws. Still, I tried to be nice and made friendly conversation, although it was evident that he wasn't listening and did not care what I had to say. Then he hits my medication list. I am suffering a severe rheumatic illness and have been for 15 years (ironically, I now know my mother is, too. I guess it runs in the family). I use pain medications only as needed, but Thomas hit the roof when he saw I MUST take pain medications from time to time as my peripheral nervous system makes me feel at times like I'm on fire, and as my palpable rheumatoid arthritis slowly eats at my bones. I receive a 30 days supply from my neurologist (not him), which lasts me a year, but despite that, he continued on to insinuate that my life is practically "over" because he would "never" fly in a plane under the care of "someone like me," and went on to hit me with another insult, stating that I'd... "will end up a drug addict because I'll never quit (those pills I hardly take)...." I began to cry - and it is really hard to make me cry. But his verbal abuse did not end there. He said, "...sorry, if you ever became a dr., I'd report you..." and "you would NEVER do surgery on me." I cry more and more and believe it or not, the name calling didn't stop. It was such a horrible experience that I cannot divulge the statements he made as I listed to him jabber for another 20 minutes... crying my eyes out.. the ENTIRE rest of the session. Although over a year ago, I have decided I'd rather die from my immunological disease (which has worsen) than to ever go through what I experience that day in his office. I see others say, "Terrible bedside manners. Even with appointments you wait a minimum of 30 minutes. You can learn a lot from a person based on how he treats others, and he is extremely condescending. If you decide to go, just listen to how he speaks to his receptionist...." These are his real review, not his crony physician friends, who I personally know, are purposefully bolstering his yelp score - perhaps to keep him solvent? I have been seeing Dr. Lin for over a year since I moved here from Wisconsin. Today, I had an appointment to discuss my concerns about the possible need for a cardiac calcium assessment CT scan, a colonoscopy scheduled in April, and adding my spouse as a new patient. He answered all my concerns with expert knowledge in all areas as well as gladly taking on my husband as a new patient. I would recommend Dr. Lin without hesitation to anyone in need of expert, up-to-date medical knowledge. He is wonderful! read more

Dr Lin Is a great doctor. His staff is good also, I have never had a problem with making an appointment and if I really need to see him they will squeeze me in. Really no one ever wants to see the doctor but if you do you want a doctor you don't feel uncomfortable asking questions or unsure of diagnosis. With Dr. Lin I have always been able to ask him anything without him making me feel dumb or rushed. he is direct and if he thinks you need bloodwork he will order it. About a year ago I started having terrible headaches so I went to see him, not only did he diagnosis me with migraines he also saw my blood pressure was high and got me started on the correct medicine that would treat both, with a three month follow up appt. Dr. Thomas Lin is a horrible physician. He was fine when I first saw him many, many years ago. But for the last few years, he has changed to be consistently rude and grouchy. He did not like me to ask questions, always told me to 'calm down'. When I said patients usually have questions, he would say patients should be patient. I went to ER in Nov. 2020 for two enlarged nodules on my necks which were shown in ultrasound. When I finally got an appointment to see him in January 2021, he said anything less than two centimeters he was not concerned. So when he sent me to get another ultrasound in March, the nodules have become four plus multiple smaller ones. Instead of sending for a biopsy, he kept sending me to take scan and more scan. When asked what he think I had, he would rudely answer he would not play guessing game. He flared up when I asked if there's specialist I can see. Several months went by, after another doctor sent me for a biopsy, I was diagnosed with a stage 4 lung cancer. All these shows how incompetent of Dr. Lin. He could have ordered a biopsy from the beginning and not to play guessing game. He not only had put me through the anxiety, he was arrogant and downright disrespectful all through these last few visits. He belittled me and compared me with a 3 year-old child. I used to hear him yell at other patents in another room. I should have left him long, long ago. read more

Terrible bedside manners. Even with appointments you wait a minimum of 30 minutes. You can learn a lot from a person based on how he treats others, and he is extremely condescending. If you decide to go, just listen to how he speaks to his receptionist. Who incidentally is a lovely and helpful person. I've been to Dr. Lin a handful of times for routine things (physical/shots). He has the aura of superiority that you could get over, most doctors have it. But what should have been a positive experience turned into a nightmare. Sh*t happens. I understand that people have bad days, but it's no excuse to treat others with less then common courtesy. I really do not recommend him as a doctor, maybe he's just tired or overworked but he lacks compassion. Some customer service skills could go a long way, even if he did receive his PhD. I am shocked at some of the reviews that take about Dr. Lin wanting money. That is SO NOT TRUE. My mother is diabetic and has high blood pressure amongst other things. She is sometimes a bit stubborn about her meds, Dr Lin does everything he can to make sure that she is on the most affordable medication regimen. So reading that he is just after money is just a bold faced LIE. Normally, doctor's office sent patients out to labs to do any blood work so it is strange that it would be done in the office. Obviously, communication was lost somehow. Normally when communication is lost it is usually on my end, I believe that is probably the same with most patients. I have been seeing Dr. Lin for several years now and he is one of the most honest doctors out there. At first I was intimidated by his direct manner, but to honest this is my health would you really want it any other way? There has not been one time I have been to his office and felt rushed. He absolutely spends time with all his patients, but let's be honest if you just sit there like a log and have no questions and you have nothing to say how long can a one person dialogue go on? The office staff is amazing. After the first few visits Veronica knew me by name and is always great at trying to accommodate my schedule for my visits. If you want a doctor that sugar coats everything for you and is not upfront and honest with you about your health then maybe Dr. Lin is not the doctor for you, but if you care about yourself at all and need honesty about your health, eating and lifestyle then the truth is in that office. read more

I was recommended to see Thomas Lin by my boss, since I was in need of a new primary physician. From the very first visit, I was amazed at how informed he was about the various medicines out there. As I was waiting for my turn in the waiting room, a supplier (solicitor) for a specific type of drug was trying to see if Dr. Lin wanted to purchase some of the product or would be willing to recommend their product to his patients, which he declined and explained why by citing case studies and even explaining why other drugs vs the solicitor's was better, all of this off the top of his head. I was very very impressed and have been seeing Dr Thomas Lin since. Thanks to Dr Lin, I've been able to keep my blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control, and even quit smoking. read more

I have seen Dr. Thomas Lin for two visits and am very satisfied with his care. He is firm and direct but I don't mind because he knows what he is talking about. After my first visit he was nice enough to email me numerous articles about diabetes while I waited for my A1C results. My second visit was yesterday. I was an overflow patient scheduled to see his father. Although his father did an intake and exam, it was Dr. Thomas Lin who came in to explain why they were going to run certain tests and what could be causing my symptoms. was looking for a primary physician who had better bedside manners. researched forever, and found a doctor that i thought was worth checking out. called and made an appointment with ease. dr. lin's nurse/receptionist is nice. the waiting room is teeny tiny. it needs some revamping, but hey, it's only a waiting room. has only 6-8 chairs, and a limited selection of magazines. make sure you bring a book or your bberry. i was able to overlook the waiting area, bc dr. lin know what he'd doing. i was in for an annual physical, and he ran a slew of tests that my previous doctor never ordered. he also referred me to an md pt, bc i complained of back pain for 2 years, and wanted to get an mri. he said that the insurance co will probably deny his request for an mri, but the md pt would be able to get me an mri, which he did. thanks to dr. lin, i was able to finally find out that i had 2 herinated discs. dr. lin tells it how it is. he is also very familiar w/a lot of the doctors in the southbay. he referred me to my ob, who i love. and my md pt, who helped me get my mri. one bad thing about dr. lin, is that he doesn't do a good job calling you after he receives lab/ultrasound/etc. results. it can get annoying, but i figured it's your body, so you should be on top of it. if you're looking for a no -frills doctor, who gets his job done, dr. lin is the one for you. read more

Probably the most down to earth, caring, knowledgeable doctor you would ever meet. He is a no nonsense straight to the point person which I appreciate and look for in a doctor. The drawback is the wait. He takes as much time as needed with every patient that sometimes you end up waiting longer than expected. But you have to admire him for doing this. My last doctor barely spoke to me and got me in and out of his office in record time but is that what you want. He just wanted to see as many clients as possible and get his pay check. I first saw Dr. Lin in 2009 when I first moved to Torrance and was looking for a new primary Doctor. I was with Healthcare Partners Medical Group (HMO). I have never met a Doctor with such terrible bedside manner before. He rushes his visits and if you ask questions, he almost seems offended like you are questioning his ability. On my first visit he told me that he would not see me for the problem I was having (back issues sedcondary to a car accident) because my insurance does not pay him well enough. I have worked for Doctors for the past 10 years and I fully understand that the insurance companies dont pay well but to refuse seeing a patient with a particular medical condition because you will not get paid well enough is just unheard of. A few months later in 2010 and a new PPO insurance I decided to see him again for Strep Throat. It was the same thing again with the bad bedside manner and rushing my visit. I metioned that another Doctor recommened I tested my thyroid and he got very offended again. I dont recommend him to anyone. I gave him a few chances and he has no compassion at all. Sad. Update*** I saw a few years back that this guy replied to my review and it angered me. At that point I was still the first and only to leave a review. Reading back on everyone else's traumatic experiences with him makes me realize that he really was a terrible human for the way he made me feel and for no reason. He never referred me to specialists. I asked him to but he said he wouldn't even entertain that conversation. And regarding the thyroid bloodwork... I had never had it tested. I was a young buck. I did however have bloodwork when I was in the hospital after a car accident. They only performed lifesaving tests. They did not test my thyroid. That is hilarious for him to say. I was bleeding to death and thyroid tests were irrelevant at the time. Still after a decade this guy made such an impact on me that I remember him to this day and at my ripe old age I would feel the same except my reaction would have been different. I wouldn't have let him bully me the way he did. You have to advocate for yourself and now that I'm older I would do just that. Sad to see he hasn't gotten his shit together after a decade. And it makes me even more sad that the majority of his patients are geriatric or hospice. Run far far away. read more

100% agree with terrible bedside manners. He will criticize a bad habit if you have one, so if you want to be honest with your doctor and not get lectured about the fact that you drink too much or maybe eat too much, even have sex too much, you may want to go to someone else who is more compassionate. My Dad was a patient of his for many years, and a big drinker but was ALWAYS honest about his intake. When things got bad with my Dad (2011-2012), I took over taking him to all his doc appts, many of which were with Dr. Lin (along with cancer docs). The first time he met me (6 months before my dad died), Dr. Lin turned to me and told me my Dad needed to go to AA. I was like..yeah, good luck with that. He is 78 years old and that is not happening, He was rude to us during my Dad's last days, and maybe mad because my Dad wouldn't "listen to him" and quit drinking. My Dad stayed with him for many years prior to getting sick because he liked him and liked his direct-ness, but near the end Dr. Lin was very insensitive and lacked any compassion. Also - I noticed every time I took my Dad there (5 times at least), Dr. Lin always left the doors open when seeing other patients, hence the comment about sex above. I clearly heard him diagnosing a guy with an STD in the room across from us. I was mortified for that poor guy. Yikes. It wasn't easy for me to watch my Dad die from liver cancer...but going to Dr. Lin was like putting salt on the wound. He was critical and judgmental. It has taken me 2.5 years to write this because I am a very forgiving person. But it sticks with me to this day, and I guess I had to write this to close to the loop on my grieving. Hey - not saying Dr. Lin is not a good doctor. Everyone has their experiences and opinions. Just remember you have lots of choices. Get referrals from your friends or co-workers. read more

I first saw Dr. Thomas Lin with my daughter. She is an NP in Northern California, and is very knowledgeable regarding primary care practices. During my appointment, my daughter asked many questions of Dr. Lin. With his knowledge and experience, I felt (as well as my daughter), that he did a great job with me, as a new patient. He was very patient, asked lots of questions, and we both felt that Dr. Lin is a thorough, patient, and caring Dr. Yes, he is overworked and will probably need some additional support staff in the future, but as for his expertise, I trust him completely. What can I say but WOW! This is one of the brightest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He is always on top of the latest medical news and ready to apply it to his practice. My entire family: dad, mom, brother, brother's kid, me, wife, wife's dad & mom are all patients of Dr Lin. This is the place to come if you want straight forward unbiased medical advice. Dr Lin literally comes from a family of doctors and is well educated and well versed in his field and actually does a lot more than the traditional family doctor. I've been to specialists who told me that Dr Lin possess knowledge that many other internal doctors don't have and that is why he can cut through the fog and provide efficient medical care. It would be easy for him to refer you out to a specialist for every problem that you have OR think you have. If you are 30lbs overweight and sitting on the couch eating cheeseburgers all day and have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, he will definitely tell you that you are overweight and need to change your lifestyle or deal with ramifications like going on medication or suffering other ailments. He is blunt and direct because he wants to provide you with unvarnished factual medical advice and avoid unnecessary tests, visits to specialists, wasting your time & money etc. So if you are a needy person who needs to be pampered and are more concerned about your ego vs your health, then he is not the doctor for you. If you are ready for the truth and would like to get the same medical advice & care that Dr Lin would give his own family, then he is the doctor for you. I have never met a doctor who cares so much for their patients. I've seen many doctors who let their assistants take your vitals and then walk in about an hour later and prescribe some antibiotics without asking many questions or doing any real examinations. Dr. Lin seriously takes his time with you to ensure that he figures out everything before he decides on any treatment. He's treated all of the issues I had previously that all of the other doctors I had seen could not figure out. I have never felt stupid for asking questions and his extensive knowledge also ensures that I never leave with any questions unanswered. I always leave his office feeling much better than when I walked in and that's rare. I now refuse to see any other doctor. He is amazing and I seriously think that everyone should see him. read more

I called them and got an appointment for my annual physical exam. My appointment was 3 weeks later. On the day, I called in the morning at 9:30 to confirm my 3:00pm appointment and the lady on the phone said it is confirmed. I reached their office at 2:45pm and filled in the my information sheet. I kept waiting for 45 minutes and I felt if I was invisible to them that nobody called me for the tests at which point I checked with the front desk and the lady told me the doctor was checking another patient right now, after which he will see another lady who was waiting in the room and then the doctor will see me as the doctor likes to spend enough time with each patient and running behind schedule. I asked then why was I not informed over phone and what is the significance of appointment time. She had no answer and rather than arguing with or yelling on anybody there, I asked her to return my papers and and cancel the so called appointment as I dont want to stay here any longer. She was silly enough to ask "Do you want me to reschedule?" I said "What?? Do you think I would want to come here again".. Those guys are pathetic. No time/human value. No one even cared to apologize for the inconvenience. I saw their reviews on this page and thought of giving them a visit. Worst experience. read more

I was shocked that he even cussed in front of patients to his assistant and complained about how one of his patient is a sh*thead and how he will not deal with that as*hole again. He may have the medical knowledge, but he has extremely poor bedside manner and doesn't listen to patients' concern. The reason I'm seeing a doctor is because I have questions concerning my health. However, Dr Lin frowns upon patients who ask him questions and even has the audacity to tell me that my questions pester him and he doesn't work well with patients who are neurotic and ask many questions. Since when is asking legitimate health questions from a patient's perspective considered neurotic? I was flabbergasted when he said if he answers all of my questions, he might as well go out of business. His behavior and words show that it's the money rather than genuine care for people's health that drives him to practice medicine. When he insulted me by calling me an as*hole because I told him that there are better ways of interacting with patients instead of being rude, that was when I decided that I'm going to change to a different doctor who actually cares and is patient. My blood pressure was normal before the appointment, but after Dr Thomas S. Lin's rude behavior, I went out of his office in a worse condition, with dangerously high blood pressure and an intense stomach ache because his confrontational demeanor has caused a tremendous amount of stress on me. I definitely would avoid this doctor because life's too short to pay for an abrasive and egotistical doctor who bullies and insults patients. read more
