This is the only doctor I have ever met of which I have so much contempt for, my last visit with…read morehim I was having severe issues with Sinusitis and had seen his associate doctor at least twice before Finally getting an appointment with Dr Michael Borovay, I was feeling extremely worn out and frustrated and maybe even a little bit down, just after Michael Borovay walked into the room I was waiting in a client called me on my cell, this is a wealthy client that was referred to me, I am a sales professional and I immediately perked up for the call and Dr Borovay began feverishly typing on his keyboard and when I ended the call I was on Dr Borovay was still typing, when he finished he got up, he gave me some kind of a psychological diagnosis and walked out of the room, he Never addressed the issue I was there to see him for which was my sinusitis. Yesterday I called to see if I could get in to see him as my sinusitis is still giving my trouble, Micaela who has answered the phone told me, we have an opening now, you have 15 minutes and I arrived in about 12, Dr Borovay woukd not see me, I came back home and called my service provider to obtain a new doctor and I wouldn't take my dog to see Michael Borovay!!!!

His office is in a suite shared by other doctors. Both times when I arrived the parking lot was full and I had to park at an adjacent lot which was not far away. The waiting room was comfortable although there was little privacy for people checking in and providing private information. It didn't matter to me, but might have to a lady who tried to whisper about her diabetes and could be clearly overheard from 15 feet away. Back to Dr Borovay, he brings his assistant into the examination room and she takes notes during the exam. The patient gets a copy following the exam which I found, in my case, redundant but probably useful for busy or forgetful people. It's also a protection for the doctor so that a patient doesn't claim later "You didn't tell me that!!" The medical office and the exam rooms were very clean and modern. It was a pleasure seeing this doctor who is now my primary care physician.

Well, my appointment was at 8:30am. I literally heard him walking into the exam room next to me at 8:35am. It's now 8:55am and I have not been seen. The paper gown isn't exactly very warm either. Dr. Arvan didn't review any of the paperwork I gave her which included recent lab reports, diagnosis and treatment plans, etc. She didn't ask me any questions about my health or how I was feeling. She was more worried about the natural supplements I was taking to treat SIBO not being FDA approved. I simply needed to get a physical exam done to qualify for a discount on my medical insurance but she refused to treat me because I'm seeing an ND as well. Are you kidding me? I'm taking things like calcium, multi vitamin, vitamin D, K, C. I'm also on HRT but she didn't like that either. How would she have any idea on my hormone levels without even looking at my lab results. What a waste of time. Seems she doesn't like her patients seeing anyone but MDs. However, I don't need any more prescription pills. All I needed was a simple physical exam. Unbelievable!

Dr. Chumley has an impressive educational background (according to his bio he graduated from UC Riverside and earned his Master's Degree and Medical Doctorate from Georgetown University), plus a lot of experience, having had a private practice in Hawaii for 14 years before returning to the mainland and setting up his practice in Torrance. As impressive as his knowledge, skills, and experience are, we are even more impressed with Dr. Chumley's bedside manner. He takes the time to ask pertinent questions, provide explanations in understandable terms, and actually listens to his patients. He has a great office staff too. A patient's experience with their doctor depends a lot on their interaction with his assistants and staff, with all of the necessary appointments, paperwork, and follow-ups. Their roles are underrated if you ask me. We had a rather urgent matter to discuss with Dr. Chumley so Lucy, one of his assistants, fit us into his already packed schedule (Thank you, Lucy!) and we didn't feel at all rushed during our session. He explains conditions and lab results in ways it's easy for the patient to understand. And when you need a form filled out, he and his staff are there to help out. The only downside is, they charge fees now. Most of the nurses and staff are kind. They make sure you are on time for your appointments and they make the effort to make you feel you are valued. However, I feel quality patient care needs to improved whether in person or via tele-visits. As a patient, you feel less validated and feel you are just annoyance when a particular nurse talks over the patient, makes invalid suggestions for referrals, ignores a patient who walked-in (w/o appointment) for over an hour, and emphasizes the patient was late for the appointment when they give you an appointment card that says Time A, and their appointment text says Time B, and the appointment time the staff claims the patient made is Time C.
