Overcharged for regular cleaning...was told they charged extra in hopes they would get it covered by insurance. It did not get covered. If I did not inquire about it, I would not have gotten a small refund. So, if you do not double check they cheating people out of their money. Also, (a separate incident) created an inaccurate estimate for procedure, showing insurance would cover for more than they ended up. Costing me about 9000$ out of pocket for teeth removal. Then, I compared with other dental offices after the fact and they charge 3x the price for a cleaning! The only positive is the staff is nice. But not worth the higher price! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST!!! My daughter who is a college student made her own appointment, and they took advantage of her lack of experience and knowledge when it comes to these things. First of all, she was NOT told that she had to pay over $2000 up front because they are not in network with Delta Dental. They should have also advised my daughter the fact that they are not in network. When I spoke to the office manager Gina, I informed her that the upfront charge was not clearly communicated/explained to my daughter, she insisted that it was! I insisted that my daughter did not have any knowledge of this, otherwise we would have definitely went somewhere else. @ Thomas Dental Care, please do a better job explaining the charges to these college kids. I scheduled an appointment online due to a broken tooth and when I showed up promptly 10 minutes before my 8:30 appointment the office was a ghost town. No one was in sight and the door was locked. The hours on the door claimed to be 7:30am-3:00pm. I even got a text confirming my appointment. I called several times and left several messages with no response. Very unprofessional. I am extremely confused, frustrated, and disappointed that I was not able to be seen. read more

My daughter was required to self-pay even though they filed with our insurance. Then it was up to our insurance to reimburse us. The problem was they bill the patient as me instead of my daughter. I found this out after my cleaning was denied because I "exceeded" my allotted number of cleanings for the year. We contacted Dr. Thomas' office to correct the claim with insurance, but they have failed to do so. Consequently, I personally still have a denied claim with my dentist. The initial exam was very thorough, and they were very informative about giving information on any questions that I asked them. Diana needs to be fired from the front desk area her incompetence is unbelievable. I payed for everything the day of my appointments up front. Was told one price then charged another but I foolishly didn't speak up. They probably took advantage of the fact I'm younger. Anyway, I needed to find old things from this place for a new dentist I started seeing & discovered in my spam that Diana sent an email saying I owed over $100 for services. However the last day I spoke with someone over the phone I asked if I had any balances left over and was told no and now they're threatening to send the bill to collections. I've been coming here for years. Dr. Thomas and his team are great! Professional, gentle, and make good recommendations for preventive care. I did Invisalign through this office and the results have been great. My mom also recently started coming here after a bad experience with another dental office in town and is happy that she switched over. Couple recommendations: First, insurance has always been a headache for me, but that's on my side. Make sure you verify with your insurance company about what is covered and what is not. Second, a couple times appointments have gone longer than expected for me, since I do occasionally go on my lunch break. Make sure you verify the appointment length ahead of time. The office manager (Diana) Knowingly presents false estimates for insurance or she is not applying the PPO write-off. Insurance provider states they are in Network and the numbers presented reflect in Network PPO amounts. After the work is done, Diana would not apply the required PPO discount. I have a balance and she turned it over to collections. She also got caught in a lie, because she told me they aren't in network with any insurance. Highly recommend for people who decide to do the invisaline. I did invisaline back in China before I come to here. They did a good job but because of Covid, it is hard for me to travel back and forth. After my retainer broke, I reached out to Thomas Dental care and ask Dr. Thomas if I can adjust my front teeth because I feel it still have slight buck teeth. I called about 15 mins ago and I'll start by saying my experience was not the best from start to finish. I didn't catch the name of the lady I spoke to but she had a heavy accent. I inquired about orthodontia and asked if they offered both services (Invisalign and Braces). I asked her if I can go in for a consult. I told her I was only available after 3:30 and she stated it wasn't possible and she would give me a call back after something becomes available. Then she also stated that due to me only being able to come in after 3:30 I should reconsider going to their office. Overall, I didn't feel welcomed when I spoke to her and I wouldn't consider going in for a consultation because the way this lady handled a new customer wasn't welcoming at all. read more

The worst dental care I have ever experienced. We can start with the insurance mix up. The "health care professional" if you can even call them that, at the front desk somehow mixed up my paperwork with someone else's and was trying to blame me for the wrong insurance information, and that was AFTER she was attempting to charge me without insurance! I seriously have never been treated so poorly at any dental/medical appointment. I just went in for a routine cleaning, and Dr. Thomas and whoever was assisting him may have been a little rusty that day, because I have never experienced so much pain from just one simple cleaning. I'm not sure if they just had the tools on too high, or what. But, I will never be returning to this nightmare dentistry.. I'm sure there are plenty of other places around this side of Davis that will start with at least treading their customers with some respect! read more

Have been here a couple times, and each time I leave, I am super happy with the service I receive. Everyone on staff here is so nice, and Dr. Thomas makes going to the dentist a little less scary. I was having some sensitivity from a recent filling I got back at my home dentist in Southern California because I cracked my tooth during a trip in Europe (don't ask). Dr. Thomas took an X-ray and found that there was a small gap in the original filling and was able to patch it back up super quickly. My insurance wouldn't cover me for this filling, since I already got it covered back in Southern California, so the receptionist printed out a quote for me as to what I would have to pay to get it refilled. I love how clear they make everything. A week later, I received a call from one of the receptionists to ask how the filling was holding up and if I was still experiencing any pain. If that isn't great customer service I don't know what is! They really care about each of their patients, and it really shows! Another thing I love about this place is how easy it is to make an appointment. Each time I have called, I've been able to get in either that same day or the next day. Especially in my case, it's great that I was able to get in very fast to fix this problem. Overall, I'd highly recommend this dental office for anyone needing any dental work! read more

She then showed me a paper showing exactly what I was getting done and then said that I wouldn't have to pay anything because I "have really good insurance" . Overall, I'm very happy with Thomas Dental Care. My mouth is pretty healthy so I've only been in for routine procedures. They accept my UCD grad student SHIP. Scheduling has been easy, and the administrative staff are pleasant. I have been to 2 hygienists, both were very nice and gentle on my mouth. Dr. Thomas is kind and professional. I had my first ever cavity filled here, and it was quick and painless. They have recommended other more cosmetic procedures, but were not pushy when I turned them down. The only minor issue I had was that on my first visit, I hadn't been to a dentist in a few years (heh oops). The hygienist recommended I get a "deep gum cleaning" which would cost me $400 out of pocket, and required a few extra appointments and anesthetic. I trusted her judgment as it had been quite a while for me. When I came in for the procedure, I was seen by a different hygienist who was surprised that procedure had been recommended for me as my gums didn't seem quite that bad. When she heard that I'd be paying so much out of pocket, she recommended I instead get an extra cleaning, which would only cost me $90. So while it turned out ok, what if I had gone to the original hygienist and never gotten revised advice? read more

Not sure why yelp didn't post this the first time. So here it goes again... I have never reviewed anything before, but when you see great service you really just wanna rave about it. While pursuing a double major at UCD, I find I have little free time on my hands. With classes at all hours and assignments piling up, I found it surprisingly refreshing when the front desk was able to slip me in whenever I found a small gap in my day. Diana and Ginna are particularly friendly and quickly squashed a few insurance concerns I initially had. My health is important to me and this staff makes it very easy for my to keep it a priority. Dr. Thomas is always friendly and personable and his office and equipment reflect the passion he has for dentistry. I suggest you stop by if you're new in town, a student, or thinking about switching from your current dentist. Dr Bruce Thomas is the best dentist I have come across in 48 years. His diagnostic skills are formidable. His treatment options are very comprehensive and thorough. My experiences at Thomas Dental Care were were alright. Nothing impressive really. Dr. Thomas seemed like an ok dentist, and his hygienists were nice. The receptionists were alright... It is interesting the reviews here and the ones on the Davis Wiki regarding this place. I suggest checking it out if you're planning to go here. I only saw Dr. Thomas for only a few minutes, and my personal opinion was that he seemed nice. However, he suggested invisiline to straighten my teeth with the orthodontist in his office, however after a second and third opinion I was told that was not the best route for me. The two other doctors (one an orthodontist and the other a dentist) believed I could actually get get my teeth straightened a lot quicker and cheaper another way. Since I hadn't been to the dentist in a while, it was recommended I have deep cleanings. Ok, fine. So I saw his hygienists for these appointments. One was very quiet, and the other was talkative, but I didn't mind. They were both good to me. But I guess I should have had the receptionists help me get an estimate from from my insurance first. :( Unfortunately there isn't really any dentists in Davis in my dental insurance's network. So I understand I will have to pay more where ever I go in Davis, but I am only willing to pay more if I feel it's worth it. But from the confusion of my bill (which I will admit was partly my fault and I am so grateful my insurance was more helpful than the receptionists) to other little things I saw in the waiting area with the receptionists, I just was just not impressed. Bottom line: If Dr. Thomas is in your network... he's not a horrible... just make sure you understand what is and is not covered by your insurance. But if he is out of network, I would NOT bother. This place is definitely not worth the extra money. Also, in terms of ortho work in his office, I would definitely look else where first because even if you go the same route as suggested by Dr. Thomas' office, at least you can make payments without interest. I came here because a friend recommended this place to me, but now even she and her family are NOT coming back. (Her reasons are slightly different than mine.) read more

A fantastic dentist who goes the extra distance to make sure your teeth are taken care of for the long term. Doctor Thomas has a soft touch that makes it easier to deal with all the work that dentists have to do in your mouth. I have been to the office a number of time over the last few years and was able to watch the staff deal with clients and they make this an nice place to come back to. The office is clean, the staff is professional, and, the hygienists are fast. They offer all premium services (whiting and such) and take the extra steps to make one comfortable. I have had everything from cleanings to crowns & bridges put in by Thomas Dental Care and all has been great ... but I never seem to pick up the flossing thing more than a few times a year (I am sure to their disappointment). Even their temporary crowns have been good: more than once I have had one put in as we waited for the permanent one to arrive ... and could have gone on with the temporary for months (obviously the office did not want me to wait that long to return) because they did such a good job. I do suggest that you make an appointment as this is a very popular dentist and it can be VERY busy. They will try to fit you in where they can but you may have to wait or at times have a short appointment (staff will try to find you an open spot). For the past two decades, Thomas Dental cared for my aging father's dental needs. The front desk is impeccable and responsive and really looked out for our family, communicating with me faithfully long distance. The hygienist found ingenuous, compassionate ways to deal with a confused and visually impaired gentleman in the chair. The dentist took good care with the best of technique, but never tried to upsell a procedure my old daddy didn't really need. I am so grateful for this practice and highly recommend them to ANYONE. Yesterday I returned to Thomas Dental Care for a long awaited dental cleaning. I had been out of dental insurance for a while and hadn't had a dental cleaning in almost five years. For once I was excited to go back to the dentist! I was greeted by the same familiar faces and felt like my teeth were in good hands. I had Pamela as my dental technician. She is always sweet, gentle, and makes you feel comfortable. Speaking of comfortable, they have massage chairs! I greatly enjoyed this and in combination with the new age/ Celtic music that was playing it made for a stress free environment. This is most helpful for people who get the dentist jitters. Dr Thomas was thorough and met all my needs for a healthy turn around. I ended up having a good review despite my long absence. The staff is amazing always so kind and make good conversation with you! I've always got work done here as far as cleanings and fillings and I can say I have never left unhappy! In my most recent check up Dr. Thomas brought to my attention I had scrapes on my teeth. What I thought was cement from a previous "orthodontist" turned out to be damage from using the wrong tool to remove the cement. This engraved lines into my teeth. If you looked close enough you could see scratches and if I ran my tongue over the top I could feel the divots of unevenness. It was so ugly. I was in shock and upset I thought my teeth were ruined until Dr. Thomas gave me the option to let him work on them to fix them up. I wish I had taken before and after photos because let me tell you.. my teeth are now super shiny and SO SMOOTH! When I run my tongue across them now it feels how it should have felt when I first got my braces off. There are no lines no scratches and they look amazing. I am so thankful and I am beyond grateful for Dr. Thomas' professional knowledge and skills. He took his time and was very thorough on making it right. Dr. Thomas and his staff are amazing! They are very welcoming and examined my teeth thoroughly. I came back for a crown and several fillings, and I never thought going to a dentist would be such pleasant experience! They even had chairs with massage which I've never seen before. I was worried about my insurance especially since they are out of network, but they gave me a clear estimate for different options and made the whole process hassle-free. Even with covid, I felt safe because they had strict protocols in place and sanitized between every appointments. I have a fantastic new crown and night guard thanks to Dr. Thomas and his highly-skilled team. Getting a crown is a big commitment of time, energy and money but Thomas Dental Care not only gave me a crown that fits well and looks good but handled all the insurance without any effort on my part. The lab did not prepare my night guard to Dr. Thomas's standards so he required a complete replacement. Absolutely terrible experience! On the phone they assured me that they took my insurance so I scheduled a cleaning and came in. They took x-rays and the dentist examined my teeth. When they were done with that they told me that I would need to book a second appointment for the cleaning! So I would have to leave and come back to have my teeth cleaned. I've never been to a dentist that made you leave and come back for a cleaning after just taking x-rays. Worse than that, they gave me a bill for just the X-rays and oral exam as I was leaving and it was over $200!!! Turns out they weren't affiliated with my insurance and charged me a fortune before even cleaning my teeth! Overall it was a very inconvenient and expensive experience. I do not recommend this dentist and sincerely suggest that you examine other options in the area before calling the closest dentist to you, like I did. read more
