This office is easy to get to, ample parking, always clean, and the front staff is kind and welcoming. They are very organized in setting up appointments and making sure insurance is looked into beforehand. I had called to schedule an emergency fix for one of my crowns and was able to get seen about 20 minutes after my call. I had never been to this Dentist before, but the entire signing up process was so easy and quick! I was able to get x-rays done as well as my crown cemented back in. The Doctor who worked with me was very professional and honest about the previous work that had been done on my tooth as well as advice for moving forward. I usually leave reviews on Google so this is a change--and a way to spread the word. I like everything about this office from the office staff through all the "assistants" to Leona, the dental hygienist I usually see (or vice versa, actually), and Dr. Jones. Their electronic communications are absolutely perfect, which I appreciate very much. Leona is technically superb and, as I told her as I left my session a couple of days ago, our conversation is incredibly entertaining and makes the time pass very quickly. What a great dentist and office. I have been a patient of Davis Dental Practice for ten years and have always appreciated their welcoming and professional atmosphere, but yesterday, Dr. Jones blew my socks off. I called in with a loose crown and the office scheduled me with him first thing that morning. Turns out it was a loose screw in a fourteen-year-old implant done by a different dentist office. Dr. Jones was so meticulous, and gentle as he patiently drilled through the crown to access the screw, only to find that it was buried in filler material, not what he was expecting to find. Still, he didn't give up. He continued using all the skills and tools he's acquired over years of practice to find a way to excavate the screw head. And then, turn, turn, he tightened the screw and the crown was back in place. Not only is he kind, and professional, but also an expert technical dentist. I'm still very upset with the protocols that canceling my appointment for cleaning because a single x-ray was requested. They should've called and verified before making a decision that I was leaving the practice. It's going to take six months or more before I can get on any schedule as the hygienists are slammed with appointments. My hope is that Davis Dental Practices changes protocols and simply call the patient in Similar situations. I guess second opinions are not allowed. I've been going to Dr. Jones for several years and he is one of the best dentists out there. I cant stress enough how great he is at making people feel comfortable. Every visit with him, I felt like I was visiting an old friend rather than my dentist. I know for a lot of people they might not enjoy going to the dentist, but when I was at his office I was always so excited. Not only does he make you feel at ease, he spends the time to make sure you understand what's happening. Considering how expensive dentistry is, it is refreshing to know that there is someone to give you a clear picture of what you're getting into He is extremely accommodating to patients. My friend had a dental emergency and he met with her outside of his normal hours to see her and make sure she was okay. Ultimately, I cannot understate how great of a dentist Dr. Jones is. Really loved going to this dentist, but was just notified that as of July 2015 they no longer accept Delta Dental. I mean- who doesn't take Delta?! It is a hardship and will certainly impact their clients. This forces me to look elsewhere. Too bad- had to take a star off for that. If you do have insurance they accept- the dentist was professional and took his time to speak with me about what procedures would be considered in my dental needs. I am absolutely terrified of the dentist. Every experience I've had has been horrible, traumatizing, and some variation of painful. Because of this, I have avoided seeing a dentist for over 5 years and only just recently motivated myself to make an appointment with this office at the recommendation of a few people. I have to say, after 5 years of not seeing a dentist and dreading the first appointment I'd made here, that I actually ended up looking forward to each subsequent visit [3 total, one filling each time]. My brother and boyfriend have both been seen by Doctors Jones and Johnson and loved them, but I was seen by Doctor Ciccarelli. I was so impressed! He and his assistant were so reassuring, gentle, and thorough and I loved their humor. I was super appreciative of the fact that he replaced a silver filling with a tooth-colored filling because the cavity was right next to it, and he didn't even charge me for the removal of the old one. He always made sure I was numbed up enough and didn't feel any pain, which I was grateful for. If he had any doubts about the thoroughness of a filling, he would do an x-ray to double check that everything was okay. I'm kind of bummed that I don't have any future appointments here other than a cleaning later this year because I enjoyed them so much! I never in my entire life thought I would come to like visiting the dentist, but the staff here are so amazing, you can't help but want to come back. They're too charming! Normally, I wouldn't think to write a review of a Dentist, but my recent experiences at Dr. Johnson's office have inspired me to let other people know about how great I think he is, especially since he has not yet received a review. My first time here was a few months ago when I had a dental emergency; the crown on my front upper tooth had broken off, and left me with a large gaping hole in the front of my smile. I had called other dentists in Davis to see if they could help, but they all were busy and had wanted to do an excessive amount of procedures and x-rays, which would have cost me over $250. Lucky that they were busy that week, and were able to recommend Dr. Johnson. When I called the office, they were able to accommodate me that very afternoon, and Dr. Johnson was able to repair my tooth at a surprisingly low cost ($78!). He completely broke my perception that all dentists are out there to rip us off. He and his staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and actually *listen* to what you are saying in order to assess and issues or problems. Dr. Johnson and his practice are very honest and kind, and I look forward to bringing any future business to him that I can (hopefully I won't have to bring him *too* much business :-) read more

Best place ever! First off; to the lady who claimed she had pain after her fillings.. no, REALLY?! Is it the first time you've ever had a procedure done? Or are you just plain.. AH. I don't get it when people leave random ridiculous reviews complaining about things that are obviously out of the hands of the dentist. If you had NO PAIN then you should be worried since they might have skipped the procedure altogether and gave you a bill! There rarely are any procedures that you don't feel some sort of pain after; the body reacts to the invasive procedures properly in that manner and if you have pain-killer seeking behavior you should seek a specialist. Anyways. I've switched to Dr. Dagon after a horrible experience with another Dentist in Davis.. of whom they have SEVERAL 5-Star reviews written by their own employee's.. go figure it out yourself (they have several 1-Star honest reviews). Overview: 1. Aesthetics - A+ 2. Staff - A+ 3. Dentist - (Dr. Dagon) - A+ I am incredibly amazed by their facility; it's next to the Police Department in Davis so it's a nice place to be and it's so understated that it's incredible. I like the very modern feel to the place and I've frequented many dental institutions as an intern to when I was helping an elderly Parkinson's patient and taking him to his various Dental offices and surgery offices all over Davis and I have to say that this place takes the cake. It's clean, the designs are not over-bearing and the AIR is clean! Not funky dentist-office smelling. So aesthetically, this place gets an A+. The staff are all generously nice, they apologize for the slightest mix up and they always are so helpful in scheduling appointments. No pretentious attitudes here! I had one of the Dental assistants do my cleaning a while back and wow! She was nice, did the most incredible cleaning job I've experienced to date and was kind enough to explain every detail of her work to me and we had a great conversation about restaurants and food (since I"m a foodie :) Now, the most important part.. Dr. Dagon is a fantastic dentist; I had my cavities filled here and he did a fantastic job and did not drag his feet about and was actually able to quote a new aspect of the procedure that he was implementing based on his input of research he keeps up to date with. All in all, it went by much more quickly than I anticipated and I left feeling happy and giddy and cavity-free! All in all- a great place to go for all things Dental-related and needed. Dr. Johnson has been the best dentist I've had yet. I come from an experience where a dentist I had gone too since I had teeth duped me into a procedure I did not need costing me an unnecessary root canal and thousands of dollars. Unfortunately he was the first in a series of untrustworthy shotty dentists. I did plenty of research on dentists in the area (2 years worth) before I went to Dr. Johnson. He exceeded my expectations. When he saw that time was tight for my cavity filling appointment, he agreed to come in to the office off-schedule on Friday to be able to accommodate me as well as provide ample time for precise work. The procedure was done carefully and deliberately avoiding added unnecessary costs to me. As a student, this aspect of his practice is very appreciated. Prevention is valued highly in Dr. Johnson's practice - an unfortunately rare feature of most young dentist practices. Also, he's just a really nice guy! He takes the time to get to know you and understand what your needs are. He takes the time to explain everything to you and gives you the ultimate option in how you would like to proceed. When I was growing up, I had more "meh" dentist experiences than great ones and honestly wasn't too jazzed about what dentists could do for my teeth. But Dr. Jones totally changed all that! So since I'm on the SHIP as a grad student I decided to take advantage of it and check out places in Davis. This place is great -- Cindy did x-rays, Paul sat down with me and discussed them, and Rachel did the clean-up. The whole thing was easy and seamless. If I ever need to diffuse a bomb with a bunch of crazy wires sticking out of it, I'll definately call these guys and do a Brady-Bunch style group skype session, because they work together really well, and I have the feeling they'd be happy to help. The main thing that I liked was the fact that I had a real talk with each person -- not the typical small talk. At the dentist I'm used to the obligatory "how's your day going?" question that the dentist asks as he's got all five knuckles in your mouth, whilst scraping some nondescript sharp object against your gums. By the time you think to yourself "I can't even answer him with his fist in my..." he's already interrupted your thought by asking the assistant for a sharper object to accidentally scrape against the roof of your mouth. This was nothing like that. Paul was really great, and I actually leveled with him. The whole thing was very professional. read more

Never thought I'd say this but I really enjoy coming to the dentist here. Everyone is very friendly and professional. The ladies at the front desk are really helpful with insurance info and changing appointments. The dental hygienists are very thorough and take care to explain what they're doing and what they're looking for. Luckily, I've only had to have 1 filling here so I haven't had too much one on one time with the dentist but he seems to know his stuff and never recommends unnecessary work. Integrity, quality and dedication are the three most descriptive words for this practice. I have seen Dr. Ciccarelli and Jones on separate occasions and they are both excellent dentists. The office staff, hygienists and assistants are also excellent, which is very important for quality of care. I learned more about oral care during my most recent cleaning than I learned in years! They are also knowledgeable and helpful with insurance and billing questions. A week or so after a cleaning I had painful swelling around my wisdom tooth. I called in and the office staff got me an appointment on the same day. Kudos to Dr. Jones for being flexible. He then went above and beyond, convincing me to have the wisdom tooth extracted on the spot. His confidence was a huge factor in the decision. He and his assistant quickly and painlessly carried out the procedure and made sure to answer all of my questions. He even gave me his personal phone number in case I had any problems and called me that evening to check up on me. Two days later I called in complaining of swelling and pain around the site, and once again they invited me to come by as soon as I could. Dr. Jones did a complementary follow up, cleaned the affected area and wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic. Until recently I was a patient but decided to change dentists because I sensed that I was being overtreated and overbilled. I'm lucky in that I have double dental coverage. Past dentists cleaned my teeth twice a year but suddenly, here, I needed 3 cleanings per year and a whole lot of other things. I mentioned that I might get a mouthguard for night time grinding and suddenly I was getting phone calls wanting me to come in to arrange for it ($400 but 0 to me after insurance). On my final visit, the hygienist sold me a $20 tube of toothpaste, then seemed disappointed when I wanted a prescription for it to buy it elsewhere. It got to the point where I didn't know whether a treatment was truly necessary or merely benign but would make money for the practice. I can't speak for the doctors themselves, except that Dr. Jones is a better listener and I'd recommend him over Johnson on that basis. read more

I have never been a big fan of going to the dentist, then I had a couple bad experiences, and was just about to go on strike when I remembered a bunch of friends in Davis really like their dentist. I got enthusiastic referrals & decided to trek out and see what the hubbub was all about. They did not steer me wrong. Everyone there is friendly. I walked in and was immediately taken to the exam room with Melissa (I think. I'm bad with names). She took my blood pressure, then Dr. Jones came in & looked over my intake form and asked me questions, went over my old x-rays with me, and then got into the exam. He was very careful with everything. Next up was Cathy the hygienist, who gave me a quick tour of their very clean facilities as we walked to her room & then she explained everything that Dr. Jones did, showed me my new x-rays and taught me how to brush my teeth. She showed me that I can be very gentle on my gums AND get better results than usual. Righteous. I have had very good (but painful) cleanings in my life, and very lazy & pretty much useless (but still painful!) cleanings in my life, but Cathy was surprisingly thorough AND painless. The woman has skillz. Once we were done, Cathy set up my next appointment, and the receptionist (I think it was Lindsay) gave me a copy of what my insurance covers - something Delta hasn't even bothered to give me. Pretty much every time I have gone to the dentist I've felt like a scolded child - floss more! brush every time you think about food! etc. This time, however, they treated me like an adult who can do better but is making her own choices. Now that I'm more educated about where my lazy habits can lead, and I feel like I have a real team pulling for me (not just disgustedly expecting the worst), I am more inspired to improve. Already I've been doing a lot more flossing. I like that they put their dental assistants and administrative staff on their website. As a boring office lady, it is nice to see that there is at least one place in this world that appreciates their staff. Finally, today I received a handwritten note from Dr. Jones thanking me for my business and everything. In this age of form emails and text messages, I have to say I was especially thrilled to see someone actually taking the time. It was a lovely touch on a very pleasant experience (when do you get to say THAT about a dentist appointment?). More dentists & doctors should be so thorough, educational, and friendly. read more

I developed a seriously painful wisdom tooth infection on a Friday, and after 2 sleepless nights and an increasingly swollen face I was too desperate to wait another day for offices to open. I'm a new grad student in town so I wasn't even a patient on record yet, but Dr. Jones and Janelle came in on a Sunday to help me. Pros: Dr. Jones was professional and knowledgeable, and both he and his hygienists took their time talking with me and making sure I was well taken care of. I often need dental work, so finding a great dentist is of utmost importance for me! Cons: Their scheduling system is a pain. Every time I've been there, they end up making me come back for multiple appointments for a routine exam and cleaning, even when I specifically ask to have everything taken care of at one time, and the front desk assures me this would be the case. In addition, at my second annual cleaning, I was told that I don't even get to see the dentist and "they normally only do exams once a year." I have bad teeth, and was irritated that the hygienist was the one taking my x-rays and looking over my teeth, and was told that the doctor would contact me later if they needed me to come in again for an exam. But, overall the quality, care, and knowledge of the staff is excellent, which is what really matters. read more

I visited this office about six months ago. Dr. Ciccarelli informed me that I had three small cavities that potentially needed to be filled. To his credit, he recommended doing a single filling to determine the extent of the decay and whether further fillings would be necessary. I was uninsured at the time and decided to wait until I got my insurance back before I had any work done. Fast forward to today when my family dentist, who has been practicing for 31 years and, to the best of my knowledge, has never led me astray, looks in my mouth, looks at my x-rays, and tells me what absolutely beautiful teeth I have. Not only did he find no cavities, he found no evidence of decay whatsoever. Not even anything to keep an eye on. Dr. Ciccarelli seemed like a very nice person and people have apparently been happy with his work. But if I had taken his advice he would have been drilling into healthy teeth, charging me hundreds of dollars, and I'd end up with a bunch of fillings I didn't need. Very disappointed. read more
