Exceptional Oral Surgery Experience I recently underwent oral surgery (tooth extraction and bone graft) at Tomaich, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Prior surgery they presented me with details such as how to pay, what my insurance can cover (as an international student, this is very important for me) and nitty gritty of the procedure (giving me options every time; say what anesthesia I prefer). Shout out to Cora for being so helpful in the pre-surgery check up. The staff was incredibly professional and comforting throughout the entire process. I cannot thank enough the nurses and dental assistants who were basically holding my hand all throughout the surgery (I had a general anesthesia, vitals monitoring attached, oxygen on, comfortable bed). Dr. Tomaich demonstrated exceptional skill, ensuring a virtually painless worry-free procedure. The facility was clean, and safety measures were diligently followed. My recovery has been smooth, thanks to the detailed post-operative care instructions provided. They called me a week after to check up on me; both Dr. Tomaich and staff ensured that I am taken care of (explaining that sediments from bone graft is natural and that if ever I needed attention, I just need to seek out for their help via call). Absolutely FANTASTIC oral surgeon. I went in for my first time around a year ago to get 3 teeth extracted. My dentist and the hygienist and everybody I knew was telling me to plan to be on soft foods afterwards for 2 weeks and that I would be in a lot of pain afterwards and for a good while after the procedures (days if not weeks). Dr. tomaich recommended to me to take advil and tylenol together afterwards, so that's what I did. I was able to eat a steak for dinner the same night as the 3 teeth were extracted, and with the literal exception of the very first poke from the syringe of anesthetic, I didn't feel any discomfort for the entire procedure as well as the day and days following the procedure. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tomaich, and have scheduled another extraction with bone graft next week and aren't concerned in the slightest. My normal dentist offered to have them do this extraction and after a short thinking it over after I left her office, I immediately called and said "hey, I know you guys said you could do this extraction and I am sure you guys would do a fine job, but I feel WAY MORE comfortable with Dr. Tomaich." This whole procedure thats supposed to be INCREDIBLY painful is pain-FREE with Dr. Tomaich. Can't recommend him enough. With Tomaich doing the extraction, I know that I will be good to resume ANY activity within a few hours of the procedure. I can't imagine you can get much better than that. read more

The surgery seemed to be fine but the communication up to and after the wisdom tooth extraction was a bit vague. We ended up consulting other oral surgeons' webpages for more guidance. Specifically, it would be helpful if this office were more thorough in their guidance of what to do after. We were given a syringe and just told to use it to clean the space out. They didn't say when, how to do it, etc. The little pamphlet with guidance on what one can eat and when was vague too. Other oral surgeon locations have a more specific day 1-3 regime. The one we got made it seem some more solid were OK almost right away, though we didn't do that. The family member with the extraction ended up with an infection and they just prescribed meds over the phone and didn't want to have them come in. With our medical doc, they want to see before prescribing antibiotics so that felt a little off but maybe that is normal for other offices. The infection came back again so eventually the family member was seen and they had to reopen and clean out and do another round of medication. It feels maybe the 3rd visit could have been avoided if they saw and cleaned out the area the first time we called about an infection. read more

My boyfriend got his two upper wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Tomaich and it was done both well and efficiently (whole procedure took only 30 minutes). He used the local anesthesia and his recovery was super fast. Dr. Tomaich called him in the evening to check up on him, which was very nice especially considering it was a Friday! Dr. Tomaich was able to see me quickly as a new patient in need of emergency extraction. Thank you! I did develop a dry socket (no fault of theirs or mine -- the clot just never formed). I went back in to their office to have it packed and that was a nice amount of relief about a day. Advice for those of you going here for wisdom teeth or other teeth extractions: Dry socket is pretty rare, but it is a *no joke* amount of constant throbbing pain to your jaw, ear and head. The packing they can do to help you will only last 24 hours, if that, before needing to be packed again. Be sure to follow any and all post-op instructions. read more

The medical care provided by Dr. Tomaich is very good, however, the office staff is disorganized and inefficient. I asked three times for an estimate of cost for my dental implant, never did get an answer. Instead I was surprised with large co payments without any warning. Over $3000 one time, over $1000 the next. Then I get additional bills from my insurance so if you do use this provider be sure to get an idea of what your costs will be. Apparently new staff have been added, because I was scheduled for placement of an implant without any preliminary appointment to see if I was ready to receive the implant. Fortunately I called ahead and asked about it and was seen prior to the procedure to verify that the bone graft had taken. I'll be using another provider next time. read more

What you get in your exam is full xrays with multi-level layers. Best I've ever seen. I had (3) wisdom teeth removed while under IV. (3) females said they all would be present during my entire surgery, which was very nice. Going under, I heard them talking for a few minutes, then I wake up as if no time passed at all. My memory of my convos after awaking wasn't saved well so make sure your ride takes good notes. I was given Sock-It ointment to help prevent dry socket. I used it twice a day until mostly gone. I didnt get any dry sockets. Yay! I was extremely happy with the work this doctor did & my jaw recovery. Me being 45, it was important to have a great doctor like Tomiach. He called me the after the surgery to check on me, which was nice. My SO repeatedly brought home sicknesses. After surgery, a new sickness causied a middle ear infection. A medical care doctor diagnoised me & said it would be fine flying with the infection. No. No it wasnt okay. Not at all. Was horrible! If you have a flight planned while your teeth holes will be open, dont let contagious people near you. read more

Dr. Tomaich is the best! I had to have two molars extracted...it was going to be hard for me...so I researched, and I interviewed other oral surgeons, and read the reviews...and after meeting with Dr. Tomaich, I knew he was the right Dr. for me. I had concerns about the numbing agent, and nerve pain. He listened, and he made suggestions on alternative medicine, and it was the best experience of all time! His nurses are the best, his office is so clean, and has a calming vibe, and he did everything he said. He did a general anesthesia, and I never felt him put the IV in, and there wasn't a mark! The numbing agent, wore off and wasn't excessive, and there was no pain, no swelling, no bruising, it was an amazing experience. He did the extractions and the bone graft at the same time...so I don't need to go back for another 4 months. I highly recommend Dr.Tomaich. I'm a wimp when it comes to dentistry, and I can't say enough. All the other reviews are true! And he takes Delta Dental Insurance. My youngest son who was 8 years old at the time, needed to have a tooth pulled. Due to his age, I opted to have him see a dentist experienced in this area and who could sedate him for the procedure. I'd rather not take the risk of trauma to him. The office was very welcoming and warm. The staff worked very well with my son and they made me feel comfortable the whole time. Dr. Tomaich was caring and genuinely interested in caring for my son and his procedure. I walked out nervous to leave him but felt confident he was in the best care. The procedure only took 45 minutes. It was painless and recovery was quick and easy. My son didn't even remember the procedure! Dallas did not undergo surgery here per you & your fiancées request to have the surgery delayed for your wedding pictures, despite two consultations stating Dallas needed this surgery. The both of you recommended waiting until he got an infection to perform the surgery. Next time you decide to write a review please give accurate information before you attempt to slander a business for your own selfish purposes. Fortunately, as his biological mother who has full physical & legal custody I have the right to make decisions that impact my child's health and well being. My child was in pain so he receive the treatment that was recommended and needed to relieve him of this pain. When I asked Dallas for his input he wanted the surgery to end the pain and headaches. He also had issues eating, and swollen gums. I will always do what's in my son's best interest. Even if that means going against the superficial wishes of his father. His father is always notified of any health issues Dallas has, it is unfortunate that he did not want this surgery done because of pictures. read more

This review is on behalf of my boyfriend, who recently got his wisdom teeth removed here. I was the day's designated driver, so I spent a bit of time in the office waiting for him. The ladies working the front desk are extremely friendly. There are plenty of magazines as well as a Keurig coffee machine in the waiting area for caffeine-drinking, magazine-flipping designated drivers like myself. At an earlier surgery assessment, said operatee received a $100 off coupon/voucher for his surgery, which was a great help considering the price of any oral surgery and a student budget. After the operation, we were provided a prescription, an instruction pamphlet, gauze, and an ice pack for post surgery care. One of the ladies also helped walk my drowsy, drooly passenger to the car post operation, which was greatly appreciated. The evening of the surgery, the doctor had called to check in with the then-conscious operatee, who was doing well. The doctor was very knowledgeable and thoughtful with the follow-up call, from what I can tell. If I were to require an oral surgery while in Davis in the future (though unlikely since I've already had 6+ teeth removed), I would definitely come here. read more

As an update, I made good on my decision to come here for my own wisdom teeth (previous review was made after getting my GF through her procedure). Experience was great. Of course do your research and find out as much about the procedure as you can. Blows my mind that some folks can't make the mental leap from hole in mouth to food lodged in holes... nevermind that it says exactly that on the brochures they give you before your procedure. I had been booked to see Dr.Tomaich for a consult and tongue biopsy. I received a phone call the day of saying my appointment had been moved back by 30 minutes. When I arrived I filled out my forms, stating it was important to me that the doctor knew I was four weeks postpartum, I was then made to wait 45 minutes before I was seen. Once I was seen I once again stated that I had a newborn at home. It was important to me that this was known because I am currently breastfeeding and need to know of any impact medications or procedures may have. The doctor said we could do the biopsy and also prescribed an oral steroid. I was brought back for the biopsy, and the assistant ended up numbing the wrong part of my tongue, so I had to wait even longer than the hour that I had already spent there. At this point I needed to get home to my newborn and to pick up my two year old at 4pm. When I went out to check about timing update, one of his assistants very aggressively told me that they were doing me the favor by accommodating me and squeezing me in today, while other people had actual appointments, and that I would just need to wait. At this point I was nearly in tears, but then the doctor came and did the procedure. After he was done he said, "with the steroid wash you should pump and dump and just give your baby formula until you're done"- this is not only not an option for me, but there happens to be a national emergency in this country with a formula shortage. I was so shocked by this answer I didn't know what to say, and no other options were given. I was then rushed out to the exit, give ZERO care follow up instructions on what to do with my bleeding tongue or any next steps. My stitches fell out a few hours later, I am in a lot of pain and my tongue is still bleeding and I have no idea how to care for it. I am truly appalled at this experience and want to make sure this does not happen to anyone else. read more

I really wanted to find someone that I can trust and someone that was fairly close to me. I came here for my wisdom teeth extraction based on my boyfriend's recent experience from Dr. Tomaich. His office was easy to access with its own private parking lot and the clean interior made me feel comfortable. There was a consultation then surgery day. The receptionist dealt with all the paperwork and insurance information. Then a dental assistant (not sure if I got the right title) brought me to a room to watch a consent video and took a full x-ray scan of my teeth. Dr. Tomaich then came and explained the surgery and answered all my questions. My procedure was fairly simple since they both already grew out. I just got the local anaesthesia and I didn't feel any pain. All I took was 2 ibuprofen later that day. After 2 days, I was able to eat solid food. He even called to ask how I was doing. The BEST oral surgeon out there by a longshot. The staff they have there are VERY very friendly, and I can't stress that enough. They made sure to call my carrier and all I had to do was show up. They prompted me with basic instructions to follow, and the procedure for the impacted teeth getting pulled was pretty simple. All I have to say is, if you have impacted teeth, go here, they are reasonable and price, and they do it extremely well. Their staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and their office is state of the art. I just had a molar with an old root canal that fractured extracted and still have the penguin ice pack that they gave me on my cheek. I had it done with only local anesthesia and it was almost completely painless. He did an amazing nerve block that was less painful than any I've gotten before - about as bad as getting a flu shot. His staff was professional and caring, they checked and double checked that we were doing the correct tooth, and it was an hour from the time I got there until I walked out the door. They even have soothing music and great rooms to distract you and help you chill out. And p.s. I'm an ER physician, so I can be a harsh judge of other providers, but Dr Tomaich was great. I had the best experience. GREAT staff. The doctor is very knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to. I went in Monday for my consultation and came back that following Friday for my procedure. Consultation: virtually no wait time, quick X-ray, very thorough explanation of procedure by Dr. Tomaich. Approximately 35 minutes total in and out the door. Procedure: again, no wait time. Very peaceful operating room with a nice view, and calming music. I even got a warm blanket! I chose the full sedation for all 4 wisdom teeth, I was out in seconds. The overall surgery went well. Clearly they do a lot of wisdom teeth extractions so it was a seamless process. However, I was disappointed with my experience afterwards. I was unfortunate enough to get dry socket in both lower extractions. I had called twice about the excessive pain and was finally told to come in to get them packed. Kim was the woman who packed my teeth. My boyfriend and I asked what exactly she was going, what the paste was, how it helped, etc. She couldn't tell me a thing. She continued to tell me that she was packing the extraction sites with "dry socket paste". I explained to her that I was quite clear the consistency was a paste, but that I wanted to know what it actually was. She couldn't tell me. She also told me not to eat or drink " for as long as you can"....I could go days if I was medically advised. I found her lack of knowledge to be extraordinarily disconcerting. Luckily, I came back again for a second re packing and found my meeting to be much more informational. I finally found out that there were medicinal qualities that helped alleviate the pain and ensure food didn't get caught inside. She also gave me water syringes to help keep the food out. I wish I knew I'd need to use them for up to a month after surgery (was not told this prior to surgery and would never had known food was getting lodged back there if I hadn't gone in for the third time). Overall, I feel as if my experience was mediocre at best. read more

I haven't been to any other dentists in the area, but I got my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Tomaich recently and I have to say it could not have gone better. I was a little worried because although he and his staff were super nice he seemed like kind of an 'overly'/'try hard' slightly nervous nice, which i find endearing most of the time but was a little apprehensive given he'd be sticking a knife in my mouth. But the yelp reviews were good and he seemed confident enough in the information, so I went for it. The staff made me very comforatable, and put warm blankets on me (fresh out the dryer or something, maybe they keep them under a heater, ugh so nice). i did the general anesthetic; they put the IV in and before I knew it i was waking up after the surgery feeling basically fine. I was wonky for a little but already walking and speaking find after maybe 30 minutes, and after I left but my mouth didnt give me too many problems and I spent the night talking to my friends who made me soup :) I'd heard getting your wisdom teeth out especially later in life was quite an ordeal, but Im not experiencing any real pain or even swelling right now, after following dr. Tomaich's advice and following his surgery. He called the next day to make sure I was alright and give me a little more instruction, which was nice. Summary: Review is for wisdom teeth removal.Highly recommended for lack of pain, smooth process, friendly staff. Don't eat or drink anything 8 hours before procedure. You need someone to take you there and wait to drive you home. Liquid food only for about three days, and soft foods for next five days. Everyone here is so nice! I went in for wisdom teeth removal 7 a.m., and the receptionists were super cheery and welcoming even though I was half dead. When I saw Dr. Tomaich, I asked him about my jaw popping when I opened it too wide (something totally unrelated to the procedure), and he got a bunch of 3d models from a cabinet to show me the exact tendons that were popping and explained that there wasn't much they could do, but it usually gets better with age. That was super helpful and resourceful, especially considering that he couldn't sell me a procedure from it. As for the actual teeth removal, my teeth were completely below the gums so I would need anesthesia. They hooked a bunch of wires and sensors to me, which made me kind of nervous since I had never been put to sleep before. I felt a little pinch when the anesthesia was injected in, and started counting in my head. When 10 seconds had passed, I was a bit confused since I didn't feel sleepy at all. ... And then I woke up. The next hour was a little hazy, I got a prescription for some pain killers, got an aftercare brochure, etc. I took the pills for the first day only, and for some reason the pain was barely noticeable by the second day. Overall, it was a far less horrible experience than what I expected from the stories I've read, especially considering my teeth needed to be extracted surgically. Eating soup and smoothies for three days straight is definitely tiring, but not much you can do about that. I highly recommend this place for making my wisdom teeth removal go by so smoothly! read more

My 11 year old son just had 4 adult teeth and 2 baby teeth removed by Dr. Tomaich. Dr. Tomaich was very supportive of my desire to avoid general anesthesia. We opted to use a sedative and nitrous oxide instead. He was also supportive of my desire to not use opioids. The procedure went great. They showed my son a video of his choice while we were waiting to begin the procedure. The procedure took about an hour and my son was in good spirits afterwards. He was still a little tired from the sedation, which was nice because he slept for several hours when we got home. The staff were wonderful. My son has had other teeth removed and this was by far the best experience. Recovery has been smooth. We have been rotating between tylenol and advil. Now four days out, and my son's teeth are healing nicely. I highly recommend using Dr. Tomaich instead of a regular dentist for teeth removal in children. read more

My son had six teeth pulled at his regular dentist. The four baby teeth were no problem, but he had a lot of pain and trauma while having two adult teeth pulled. He had to have two more adult teeth pulled, so we were referred to Dr. Tomaich by the dentist and orthodontist. My son had a lot of anxiety going into the appointment, but everyone at Dr. Tomaich's office was understanding and helpful. Everything went great, and I would highly recommend their office to anyone who needs to have teeth pulled. It's only been 24 hours since the appointment, so we're not sure about how they will handle issues like dry socket if they arise, but everything up until this point has been great. read more
