I was referred to this office by my regular dentist for periodontal work. Due to limited availability, it took about four months to be seen. The procedure was a gum/skin graft on my front teeth. Before the procedure, there were already billing issues. The office attempted to charge more than what my insurance (Delta Dental) indicated would be covered. This resulted in extensive back-and-forth to ensure insurance was applied correctly and billing codes were entered properly. We eventually agreed on a total, and I paid a deposit. On the day of the procedure, I paid the remaining balance we agreed to and signed for. I returned for two follow-up visits to confirm healing and had no further treatment with this office. One full year later, I received a bill claiming I owed $850, with no clear explanation. When I contacted the office, I was told the billing codes had been entered incorrectly and that I now owed the difference. Delta Dental confirmed the office had used the wrong billing codes and advised them to correct the submission so it would be covered. The office refused to fix the coding and instead threatened to send me to collections. After continued disputes, the balance was lowered to $450, though we still did not believe we owed anything. To avoid collections, we set up a payment plan ($50 down and $115 monthly). The balance was paid in full. Despite this, I was later sent to collections "by mistake" and told the office would correct it. Then, I received another bill for $115, which they claimed was due because they had "forgotten to include a payment." This office is disorganized, aggressive with billing, and unwilling to take accountability for their own errors. The constant changes to what was owed, threats of collections, and lack of transparency made this an extremely stressful experience. Proceed with caution. Had periodontal surgery here 3 years ago for deep distal pocket at my back tooth (I came in with an 11). Not long after my surgery, I told them I was still having issues, was told I just grind my teeth and that's why I was having issues. The original periodontist who did the work never looked at the site after the initial surgery, not even for my post op check 2 weeks later. They also didn't provide me post op instructions and had to call them to provide instructions for me. They're also extremely bad at being on time, would wait 45 mins after my scheduled appointment time & then another 30 in the chair after being placed into the took. During my surgery, the perio would get up to work on other patients while working on me. Now, three years later, I had to get surgery AGAIN because, as it turns out, my distal pocket was still a 9 in that area. I had tried to keep the area clean as best I could but kept getting infections but could not afford another pricey surgery. This place also inflated the cost of the procedure, a surgery that's $1200 elsewhere is $1700 here. Needless to say, I didn't come to this location to fix my botched surgery. He is funny and light hearted and he always makes me feel better when I'm having an issue or I'm stressed about any dental work I'm going to have done. He does amazing work. The only positive thing about this location is the dentist that saw me was kind and helpful. Hygienist did not complete all of the xrays after letting me know we would finish them after the visit due to technical issues. Came in for a cleaning, they offered to fix the bonding on my retainer for an agreed price. Left paying more because they didn't actually verify insurance would cover it, based on other reviews this seems like a common issue. Front desk staff could use some training on customer service. They're fine for a routine cleaning, but I wouldn't trust them to give transparency with dental work pricing. There are better options if you are able to find availability elsewhere. read more

I want to start by saying the doctors here have always been great. However, the front office staff dropped the ball badly on my recent appointments. I requested an in-person ASL interpreter for both my son and me well in advance. Despite that, they only arranged for a Zoom (online) interpreter last minute without telling me. I kept reminding them weeks before to get an in-person interpreter, but they kept saying they would "do it later." Then, without my knowledge, they confirmed the Zoom interpreter for appointments scheduled the next day. This is NOT acceptable. They didn't follow the proper process or respect my communication rights as a Deaf person. If you rely on in-person ASL interpretation, be careful--they don't seem to prioritize or understand these important needs. read more

I had a wisdom teeth removal over a year ago. The entire process felt rushed, uncommunicative and frankly reckless. I told the surgeon multiple times that I only wanted 2 out 4 of my wisdom teeth removed to avoid nerve damage and after I finally got them to agree they told me I MUST be put into deep sedation for this removal and the procedure they TOLD ME I WAS GETTING would mean sedation was covered. Turns out they misinformed me about the type of procedure I was getting and when insurance called them on it they tried, a year later, to stick me with the bill for hundreds of dollars (I already made a several hundred dollar copay the day of). If you want to be able to trust your dentist/surgeon is telling you the truth and not trying to scam you because of their own lack of communication and accountability, this is not the place for you. read more

I had an appointment Monday morning I had a tooth ache and fortunately I was seen quick .The dentist could not figure out what was wrong with my tooth after having done multiple tests therefore I was scheduled to see the specialists the following Monday . The Friday before my appointment with a specialist my appointment was canceled to the following Monday, when the following Monday came around my appointment was rescheduled once again to a earlier time however that appointment also canceled by the specialist. This went on for Three weeks this was extremely unprofessional and a complete waste of time . I was still billed close to $645 just to have my X - rays taken and not receive and answers. The insurance company sent me a letter on 7/27 and told me that I was entitled to the refund because the dental office did not follow what the contract listed. Turned out the amount I was charged was lab fees. They didn't want to pay that so they just fooled patients and told them it's their responsibility . Unreliable scheduling!! Im not sure whats going on, but its really irritating to rearrange our schedule to make our appointments just to have them canceled on us constantly. My husband went in at the time he was scheduled, had a reminder sent to him for that time, and they said he was late and made him reschedule. Ive also recently had an appointment canceled, and I was not notified until I got there. Both of these incidents after multiple last minute cancelations the night before our appointments. Appears and flows like a very modern facility, they have tons of gear there including live video of what's going on with their work, so you can actually see what shape you're in, real time. The drawback- if you don't take the premium services (=more $$$)- they just blow you off. If you're doing healthcare, do it respectably. If you're getting paid by insurance anyway, why hostage the patient for the highest return you can get? They'll give you the most expensive they can- or forget it and find another place. This place overcharged me by ~$2000! Got charged $2505.20 for my wisdom teeth removal only to get a EOB statement saying I only owned $592.20. Do not go here, they care only about squeezing as much from you as possible. Also, don't expect them to explain the convoluted prices they charge, or let you know what the money you give them is going toward. Never said I wanted you to do prep work, I wanted to get this work done., and pay for it. No well that's not what we quoted you. Well what you quoted me was over 2 months the ago, and I never agreed to that quote. When I called I stated that I wanted to get this dental procedure done, and pay for it. I never even made it in the door for this business! I moved from Sacramento to Davis and was hoping to get a closer - in the neighborhood- dentist but it wasn't in the cards for me! I was rescheduled 3 times! I made my first new patient appointment for February then they rescheduled me the Friday before due some maintenance needing to happen in the building. They weren't able to see me again until April.. ok fine - it happens. Yet again, a couple of days before my appointment they send me another email needing to reschedule me due to another maintenance happening in the building after 4p (my appointment was for 3:45p). I called them right away and practically had to beg them to get me in on my original date. Day of my appointment... it was for 2p, I get there early and they tell me "we will have to reschedule, the dentist called in sick today" OH MY GOODNESS.... I gave up after that and was actually seen at the Smile branch in Woodland. Why couldn't they have called me earlier, especially in that last appointment? Why don't they let their associates have a more professional email address? I truly cannot say enough positive things about this office! To say that I am a bad patient is putting it lightly. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to the dentist to the point where I threw up on the dentist. Dr. Panaue and her staff were so incredibly patient with me and kind. I came in with a chipped broken front tooth. To have this fixed was a multi series visit/ repair. She was so kind and in no way made me feel embarrassed about my behavior. She walked me through step-by-step taking her time and reassuring me. Her dental assistant were also extremely sweet and professional. The young man Making sure my jaw was okay durning Xrays and the young woman crafting carefully my temporary tooth with sweet words and short stories. Dr. Panaue has made me trust the dentist a little more. I also want to shout out the reception staff. You can tell this office is definitely busy but they always make returning a phone call a priority. Nicole especially was very helpful when helping me with my insurance and making sure I got an appointment before my sisters wedding. Not sure what is worse: the idea that these folks are cheats or are merely incompetent. My mother went in for extensive dental work and was told she would need her entire set of teeth replaced. In addition, the temporary denture they fitted her for was too big; they didn't bother to size it or shave it down once it was made. My mom was skeptical of this claim so went to Davis Dental Practice and was advised she could save her teeth and they laid out a plan for action. Now, my mom only needs partial dentures and she has a dentist she can trust. I won't waste your time describing the numerous miscommunications from the front desk during this whole charade(not sending over required paperwork was their main specialty) but their lack of enthusiasm or follow up is readily explained by the people they work for. My kids have been seen here, it's fine for my youngest who does not have dentist anxiety. Not great but not terrible. My oldest is really apprehensive about the dentist and we've not found them to be great at settling her nerves - definitely not a pediatric specialty type place. But its location is very convenient for us so When I needed to find a new dentist I decided to switch over. I first made an appointment via the online portal. Through that I uploaded my insurance information- I'm certain I did so because I had to track down my new card and took a photo of my card. About 3 weeks out I got an email to confirm. I did. Then the Wednesday before my Monday appointment I got a voicemail stating I had not provided insurance information and my appointment would be cancelled if I did not provide it by the following day at 4p. Thursday morning I called. Spent over 10 minutes on hold. Spoke to a woman, again gave my insurance information. Confirmed they didn't need anything else. Total time on the call was 19minutes - on a very busy work day for me. So imagine my surprise when Friday morning I get an email saying they'd made "multiple attempts" to reach me regarding my insurance and because I "hadn't responded" they were cancelling my appointment. Been needing a replacement mouth guard for a while, the one I had wasn't comfortable and the material was just to hard to wear. So, I stop wearing it for almost a year. I am a night time grinder and the cause of not wearing one made my teeth wore down and it became more sensitive. I spoke to Dr. Mak, he told me about the Glidewell mouth guard and showed me what it looked like. He recommended that I should try it. So, appointment was made. First arrival, the staff greeted me and were friendly. The place looked clean. They followed the COVID 19 protocols, making sure things were wiped clean. I had to get an impression done for the mouth guard, it took a few tries to get it right. The gal who worked on me made sure I was comfortable before she started working on me. The material she used for the impression tasted nasty and it was very uncomfortable when I got it done, but it was necessary. My regular Dentist was charging way more for the Glidewell mouth guard, this place had the right price and I was happy with it. I am glad I spoke to Dr. Mak, he helped me make the right decision and listened to my needs! read more

Horrible service! I requested an appointment on line back in June 24 for my teenage son to get him braces, it said it would take 24 hrs. for someone to contact me. It's august 10 th and no response yet. I had to change insurance so I didn't have a choice but to go to Davis Smiles, biggest mistake! They cleaned my teeth, I don't know what they did to me but ever since then , my teeth hurt so much ! Now theyare very sensitive all the time. UPDATE 3: The office has sent me a statement in writing that I have a balance of zero, which I have forwarded to my insurance. I'm revising my review from 1 star to 3 stars (originally it would have been 5 stars). Apparently the dentist who saw me last time, despite being one of only a handful of dentists in this small provider, does not take my insurance - while every other dentist here does. As such, it billed as out-of-network. This is part insurance failure, part office failure; I really cannot get over the fact that this office billed my insurance for a procedure that happened 6 months earlier. Their staff were professional and the dentistry itself was fine; the insurance screw-ups were not, at all. UPDATE 2: I called the office manager and they explained that, on their office records, I "have a balance of zero". I informed them that I would redact my CA DCA complaints and modify this review once I receive that information in writing. Their office manager gets high marks for damage control and customer service; the rest of their agency, and my insurance, however, do not. The fact that a service from over 6 months ago was billed to and processed by my insurance - before I even had that insurance! - is incredibly troubling. How many people get bills from their insurance company and just pay, instead of complain and assert their rights the way that I do? UPDATE 1: Within an hour of my posting this and submitting my complaint to them and my insurance, they called me, and referenced this Yelp Review. It's interesting they didn't put a comment in writing on here. I will update again based on what they say over the phone. They've already lost me as a customer, though, and I hope others avoid them due to what appears to be at best incompetence and obscene lack of customer service, and at worst, fraud. EDITED ORIGINAL REVIEW: I went in for a standard dental cleaning of my pretty much perfect, problem-free teeth. My insurance, from my job with the federal government, covers 100% of all standard dental procedures. After several delays and cancellations, I finally had a regular cleaning here (Orig, Oct 2021, actual cleaning in March 2022?!). The dentist, new to me, told me I needed a cavity filled and a crown. She did not bother to tell me it was her last week. ZERO personality. Front desk scheduled me with another dentist. I've been through 3 dentists at this point, in just a couple years. Getting an appointment has become a nightmare, even when THEY cancel on you. 3 month minimum. Management confused me with another patient who has the same name but different insurance which was one reason I was cancelled and waited another 4 months for a simple cleaning. Oh and, the crown they want me to get is a major upsell--$300 for a regular after insurance, but they insisted I needed the special $1000 one. they insisted a regular crown would for sure break after a couple years and then I'd be "out of luck." I have other crowns. Had 'em for years. NONE have broken, but thanks anyway. Also, pretty darn sure my insurance would cover a broken/replacement crown, so why do I need your "warranty"? My husband has had some seriously bad work here--they literally punctured his sinus cavity trying to put in an implant post. I'm sad to say that my initial impressions were wrong. I don't feel comfortable coming here for anything other than a cleaning/x-ray and will be seeking a new dentist. Someone CONSISTENT and available and who actually cares about me as their patient.
