I had a great experience at Thomas Dental Care. Around a year ago, I started soreness in my jaw to the point where I couldn't eat a sandwich without struggling. I went to Dr. Thomas for a check up and the usual cleaning and asked him what I could do to relieve the soreness. Turns out the soreness was due to stress and all I needed was a nightguard! The process was extremely easy and Dr. Thomas really look his time when fitting the guard to my mouth so it would fit with my retainer - not an easy feat. A year later and I don't have jaw soreness! Even with insurance, you will have to pay hella out of pocket. I am not familiar with insurance but this is not cool. They told me all the cost after I got my check up. Even with insurance, the x ray and check up cost $40. I didn't need to pay anything out of pocket at my old dentist. The pricing should've been explained to costumer before anything happens, right ? That didn't happen here. They told me about the price after I got the service and I was forced to pay. That's just not cool. Definitely not coming back. read more

Dr. Thomas is amazing. I've had horrible dental experiences in the past, but he makes me feel at ease when getting work done. I initially found this place via google because I wanted zoom whitening done. My first appointment was the zoom whitening. Which went a lot better than all the zoom whitening reviews I read before finding a facility that provided it. What really sold me besides the facility being clean and having friendly staff members is the dental chairs.... they massage! So cool! Needless to say I've recently become a regular. I went for my cleaning, which was quick and painless to my surprise. I've also entrusted Dr. Thomas with my dental care as well since then. He's very knowledgeable and makes me feel comfortable. Even though I call with multiple questions they always make me feel like I'm not a burden, which is great. Dr. Thomas offers a variety of dental procedures and cosmetic procedures. Dr. Thomas is the best dentist I've had in decades. I feel entirely confident in him; he is informed, up to date on technology, and explains procedures fully. He's never recommended a service or procedure I didn't feel I needed. When I developed an infection on the eve of an international trip, Dr. Thomas responded to an after-hours call, and managed to order antibiotics for me with only a couple hours notice. He also noticed an issue with my teeth that other dentists hadn't detected. When I do need a procedure he makes sure it is pain free. His staff is friendly and professional, and offer clear information about costs to be expected. They work with my insurance so I don't have to. I highly recommend this dentistry office. read more

I went to Dr. Thomas based on a friend's recommendation. Doctor Thomas himself is not a bad dentist (just not for me), but I did have an issue with his hygienist. I have a very troublesome back molar that's discolored because I had some poor dental hygiene when I was a teen. I've since become more responsible, and all my subsequent dentists have noticed it and kept it "on watch", but it hasn't had a cavity in 8 years. Well, the hygienist scolded me about it and told me that it was inflamed and that this was due to poor dental hygiene. I corrected her by saying that it used to be covered by gum tissue and was cleared as much as possible by my oral surgeon but still had more gum tissue around it than normal -- which is the damn truth! She rolled her eyes as if she didn't believe me and told me that in any case, I needed a "deep cleaning" which was not covered by my insurance and would cost ~$250 out of pocket. Okay.. fine... I went to another dentist for a second opinion and there was no mention of deep cleaning. The back tooth was put "on watch", like it always has. I look much younger than I am, so I'm guessing the hygienist thought I was just some kid who didn't take his dental health seriously. Well, that cost them my business, but maybe they don't need it? I'm just some poor student to them anyway. If you're on Delta Dental, don't go to this dentist -- he's not worth the extra cost. Overall the service wasn't bad, but I've had much better. I've since found a better dentist who also happens to be a Delta Dental PPO. Thomas Dental may be a good choice if your insurance has better coverage, but it's not a great idea for Delta Dental holders. **Update** I lowered my rating by one more star because the hygienist at Thomas Dental only uses ultrasonic water to clean teeth. She does NOT scale your teeth using the hooked metal instrument. I initially thought that the ultrasonic water was a replacement to using the metal hook, but according to my new hygienist, the water doesn't get everything. My new hygienist uses both the water and the metal scaler. Maybe it's a little unfair to judge a dental office by the quality of its hygienists alone, but since 90% of the services are dental cleanings, I think it's appropriate. The hygienists at Thomas Dental are lazy, patronizing, and give poor recommendations -- there isn't any other way of saying it. read more

I've been with Dr. Thomas for about four years and have wanted to review but haven't got around to it. It's hard to imagine a better dentist. I'm probably a bit of a hassle with low pain tolerance, difficulty getting anesthetized, and needle issues. Yet, my root canal went as well as it could (all procedures since have too). Thomas Dental Carr is a wonderful dental office. Very up to date equipment and technology. Really enjoy Dr. Thomas, Diana, Gina, his assistant and hygienists. The office has an amazing atmosphere. Dr. Thomas has been exceptional at creating a dental plan, showing you visuals and carefully explains the plan. He is open and has repeatedly listen to my thoughts and in fact at the 11th hour when I went into the office with one plan for the day. I have been going to this dentist since 1998. The dental hygienist fixed my and my husband's gum issues that resulted from a rather incompetent dentist I had previously. They occasionally did do a hard sell on teeth whitening, but I made it clear that I did not want this extra service. I have been taught proper flossing and have always received excellent care from the dentist and the hygienist. The office staff is friendly and don't waste time. My teeth, gums have been healthy ever since I started with this dentist and his office and I am almost 70 years old. I appreciate the care. read more

One of the things that really impressed me is that when I couldn't afford a procedure the woman at the front desk called my insurance company and go tit covered. She gave me a call and let me know that with the new coverage from the company it would only be $19.00. She really helped me out and it was totally above and beyond. I have been a patient at Thomas Dental Care for about 6 years. I have had everything from cleanings, fillings, crowns, wisdom teeth extraction, periodontal, and even orthodontic work completed here. I have never had an uncomfortable experience. The hygienists are efficient and do a great job each time I go in for a cleaning. The office services and technology seems modern and state of the art. As a young professional, this matters to me. I really like that the admin staff are knowledgeable and up to date with information and have been able to clarify and explain any questions I had. About 3 years ago, I was looking for orthodontic solutions. When I was doing some research and going into various dental/orthodontic offices for quotes, I had to go to a different location and pay extra to get x-rays done. I think the closest place I could go to get a certain type of cranial x-ray was Vacaville. I noticed last year that where I was previously referred out for a particular x-ray, that I was able to do it at Dr. Thomas's dental office instead, thus minimizing the cost to me to get them done elsewhere. Saved me a drive and setting up another appointment. I had a pretty bad underbite, misaligned teeth, and other pain issues I was hoping to get addressed. I do a lot of clenching and had tenseness in my jaw muscles. Dr. Thomas took the time to figure all of this out before starting treatment and offered some myofascial therapy of my jaw muscles to get bite right before starting. The results from getting braces here were amazing and I was able transition over to Invisalign after the major work was done for a nominal additional amount. Dr. Thomas and his support staff's attention to detail ensured that my teeth were finished exactly the way I wanted. Things I like the best about Thomas Dental Care are: 1) Focus on preservation of natural teeth--will not drill or do unnecessary work 2) I feel fully informed about recommendations/services and able to decide on treatment 3) Options for payment provided. Had such a lovely experience here! The entire staff was very welcoming and helpful even on the phone. Dr. Thomas was exceptionally great! He was extremely helpful in understanding what steps I need to take moving forward and what needs to be done soon. I usually feel intimidated by going to the dentist because I feel dentists frown upon poor dental care but not Dr. Thomas, he was very sweet which made it easier to take feedback! Dr. Thomas would often be late and condescending. "Have you been a good girl?" comes to mind a lot. He would talk over or cut off his staff in front of me. They told me they accept my insurance but didn't tell me I had to pay out of pocket until after I began treatment and often added unnecessary services that my insurance didn't cover. read more

I cracked a tooth two days before Christmas and called the after hour phone number. Dr. Thomas actually answer the phone by the second ring! I was impressed given the time of year. Unfortunately, the office was closed for the holiday, but he gave me over the phone recommendations to help ease my discomfort until he could see me. He was able to get me in the day the office opened, even though his appointment book was full with people trying to get in that last appointment of the year. I've been back several times now and have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Thomas and his Office and Tech staff. I've even referred co-workers and my family there! If I could, I would give this dentist and his office staff -5. Few months ago my daughter visited this office. Dr recommended some kind of preventative treatment and one filling. She was given estimate of $160. Month later she got bill for another $170. Apparently the estimate was that much off ($160 instead of $330)!! I called them and told them that we would never have this done if we knew that this is what the final cost would be. Their estimate was obviously very incorrect but all that they would say is that this was an estimate and that they can't predict what the final cost would be. So one small filling and two preventative treatments ended up costing us out of pocket $330. Now, on top of that she ended up having tooth ache in the tooth that got new filling. She went back to talk to him about it and he said he'd need to adjust her night guard because of the new filling. So more$$ This made not sense to me... why adjust the night guard instead of the filling. The filling was obviously not done correctly otherwise there would be no pain. I looked up online and it states the same... http://www.oralanswers.com/pain-caused-by-a-high-filling-why-it-happens-and-how-to-fix-it/ Any other dentist would make adjustment on the filling at no cost. Besides this, my daughter said that the pain is there only when she is flossing around that tooth. After looking some more online it appears that there is a leak in the filling, which means it needs to be re-done. Since I am not an expert we'll see what other dentist recommends to do. I will add to this post once that happens. I asked Dr Thomas to call me back but he never did... instead he had Gina call me. She was very rude, spoke over me, insisted that the night guard needs to be adjusted and not the filling... I was in shock with the way I was treated. They gave us estimate that was less than 50% of final cost, they did poor job with the filling, want more money from us to fix their mistake and then ended up being rude and talk over me. So -5 to this office... We'll pay someone else to fix his mistake but they will never get a $1 from me. My parents were driving to Davis to attend my daughter's graduation and somewhere in Wyoming, the tip of one of her back molars chipped off. So she asked me to find a dentist that she could go to in Davis. Since I live in So Cal, I had not a clue of a dentists in Davis. I used 1-800-dentist and they found me Dr. Thomas. I called the office, explained the situation to Diana and she was so very, very helpful and positive about getting my mom in! I just felt so relieved and positive just from the phone conversation alone! When my mom arrived in Davis and went for her appt. with Dr. Thomas, she said he and his staff took such good care of her. He fixed her tooth up, spent time with her and made her feel very comfortable! She was so happy I found this dentist for her! Short story made shorter... They made me an appointment under false pretenses, denied me service, and charged me $45 for a cancelled appointment because I was sick. Poor college student here... Made an appointment 2 days ago under the impression and for the purpose of having my fillings worked on. I come today and they do the cleaning and then proceed to tell me I'm not scheduled for my fillings. I ask why and they respond that the doctor refused because he thought it was unfair that I had cancelled my previous appointment three months ago, which was because of illness. Slightly aggravated I say "okay how much my cleaning will cost", which is usually about 15 dollars or so, she responds with "$45". Really aggravated I say "why" and she said again it's because I cancelled and the doctor thought it was "unfair". Again I explained I was sick, but they did not care. Then they had the audacity to try to reschedule me for my fillings after baiting me in under false pretenses and charging me $45 that Id use for food. Not going there again. read more
