Note: After I wrote my review I went to TripAdvisor and was able to find that this place has been terrible for years! From flies in the drinks, rude service, and disgusting food. This place hands down wins the worst establishment ever award. Original review: This place is straight TRASH!! Racist and aggressive towards AMERICANS. Do not give money to this establishment. I cannot believe how unwelcome they made me feel 'we have NO TABLE FOR YOU!' With no explanation until I pressed them. One lady just glared at me in the corner after saying 'we have no table for yous' and the other came over to say the other lady just told you 'we have no table for yous!!' I had to stand there and have an aggressive encounter for several minutes, tell her I am a tourist, and inform her that she was being unprofessional. We just toured several countries in Europe and this one encounter is going to make sure I say nothing but terrible things about Belfast! How terrible!! They might have their problems politically right now, but in a service position where USA dollars are coming in, this is a bad move! Americans do not support this establishment unless you are simply going to be accosted by aggressive Irish women. This is all unfortunate because I have Irish blood-- now it makes me ashamed. If I could rate this a zero I would. It was 1950's style blatant hate towards a family of four with two children having to endure that treatment and seeing their mother cry because it was so painful. Oh and the kicker is, there were several tables available-- place settings there and all.

I managed to get in moments before they started turning everyone away for the evening. Grateful for that because my dinner was delightful. I started with a mushroom soup. Loads of mushroom and a savory broth. Served with a slice of bread. For my main I had a boxty recommended by the waitress. Must try this!! I had the brisket and it had loads of flavor and nice peppery seasoning. With a Guinness this was a perfect end to a long day.

We found two locations of the Thirsty Goat and enjoyed them both! They've got a nice casual pub atmosphere, friendly bar service, and great food, including gluten-free options. At this location, we grabbed some brews but also partook in lunch. The gf menu was pretty rudimentary, but I couldn't care less when the food is good and I don't get sick! I had the Irish stew, which was warming and hearty. Our friend enjoyed the boxty and said this was his favorite version of it the whole trip. Overall, it's a fun location with great food.

After a busy day of traveling, we were quite hungry and this place looked like a variety of good food choices. We went with the hamburger and the potato cake and cod. Both were absolutely delicious, huge portions, and the staff were quick on service and extremely helpful. It was crowded but they seemed to be able to sit everyone with no wait which was great to see on a Friday night. There was guitar music which was really nice and added to the ambience. Highly recommend!

The imagery in this place is hilarious. Their theme is goat and they know it, demonstrating a relentless commitment to goaty images, end to end. The beer on tap is your typical, lots of Guinness and lagers. I think there may have been an IPA. Aside from the funny goats I really enjoyed the view out the windows; it over looks 2 public squares, one on each side, and in our case there was some insane Bachelorette party happening/imploding out there, great public entertainment.

Good food and service in a traditional pub environment. Right in the center of Belfast.

Through Yelp, I had heard about The Perch that from the pictures looked like a cool place to grab a drink. Little did I realize how cool the bar really is when we made our way down this side street and discovered the entrance. The outdoor rooftop bar is located on the fifth floor in the historic Linen Quarter, which can be accessed through a series of twisting and turning hallways before reaching an old school sliding door lift, which one of the door people take you up. Upon reaching the rooftop, you certainly understand why the owners call the bar "The Perch" because it feels like a bird perch between the various bird perches hung over the bar and the overall decor that has an open-air approach, combined with both a 19th Century steampunk meets polynesian feel. Unlike most bars, The Perch only has in stock a few spirits on the shelves (whether this is due to the pandemic or the actual intent). But from my observation, there seems to be a purpose for this as they focus on making a handful of cocktails -- and making them well, they do. The Brambles was my favorite cocktail that was refreshing and delicious, while the Aperol Springs was tasty but strong. But having a couple of delightful drinks but us to a place of spiritual purity and understanding. Highly recommended if you're in town and looking for a cool and chill bar with a sweet ambiance and funky way to enter.

Since we had already had lunch we sat at the bar for a beer. We were greeted by a nice bartender. We told her we were looking for either a beer or cider. There are a few tables outside to enjoy the weather and a few tables inside. The bar area downstairs is small with quite a sizable collection of bras hanging from the ceiling. We ordered a Hilden Belfast Blonde and a Small Axe Session IPA. It wasn't super busy so talked to the bartender about travel. As another bartender walked in we also discussed beer and cocktails. He told us that flavored Gins were popular. He let us smell a few of the popular ones since we are not big gin drinkers. Decided to stop in the ladies room before leaving and found an interesting group of old photos while there. We didn't try any food but loved the beer and cocktail options and really enjoyed talking to both the bartenders. Stop by and check it out.

They are in a handy city centre position and can be easily reached from anywhere in the city centre. If you're not drinking, there is parking right out the front (if you get there early enough!) if not there are plenty of side streets too! For weekend visiting, be sure to get there before 7-ish, or you may find that you won't get a seat, although it does calm down later on in the night when the Limelight opens and some of the patrons move next door to the club. I must make a point of going back to Katy's soon, it's been too long!

Anyway, apart from the wonderful Public Bar in Melbourne, and possibly Dubliners in Tokyo (actually no, their Guinness is questionable and their 'soda bread' is in fact wheaten), Katy Daly's is my all time favourite bar in the world. This says quite a lot if, like me, you fled screaming from these shores at the first possible opportunity and spent several years abroad. But I've come to realise on my frequent returns, to sign on, that Belfast is actually quite a cool wee city. And Katy Daly's is one of the main experiences for me that encompasses that vibe. Imagine my shame and horror last year in Australia when one of the lead items on the news was the spides in the Village burning the Roma population out of the area. And when any July overseas the pictures beamed in from Belfast are of riots, bottle-throwing spides and triumphalist sweaty-faced Orangemen doing their damnedest to make sure no-one can get down the Lisburn Road. 'Belfast isn't like that!' I'd wail to anyone who'd listen, and plenty who wouldn't. 'Look at Katy's for example!' A rock bar with great music both live and on the jukebox, an unpretentious and friendly crowd, the best pub quiz I've ever been to (yes, even better than Melbourne's), friendly staff who remember your usual (ahem), and good food at good prices, makes Katy's a must visit for any tourist who thinks Belfast is all burning buses and bodhráns. Oh, and most unusually, and welcome, for an average city bar - the ladies are normally outnumbered by the men. Most of whom are of an alternative ilk and not decked out in Ben Sherman and Timberlands, and therefore are generally gentlemanly instead of trying to cop a quick grope as you go past them on the way to the loos (Bot, I'm looking at you). Many of them are long-haired and tattooed to boot. Yummies. In fact, I'm sitting in Katy's right now writing this. Goddesses bless mobile broadband.
