I will give it for the vibe and the service which were both very nice. But I ordered a rib eye and with all the fantastic beef raised in Ireland, it was not great. It was on the tough side so the two of us that ordered that were greatly disappointed. Perhaps we needed to try something else. We were also a little put off by the server actually asking us to leave a gratuity when after eating in over 20 places in Belfast and Northern Ireland, this was the only place that did. Very sad to see this place rated so low. Our experience was awesome!! We did eat early so it was quiet and we had the place to ourselves. Service was great and the staff were friendly. Atmosphere was classy and cute. And food and cocktails were delicious. I kept hearing how good Irish beef was so I got the ribeye (black and blue). The chef cooked if perfectly and it was delicious. And the Belfashioned was a fantastic cocktail. Wife had the Streak Frites and thoroughly enjoyed. Wine selection was also pretty good. Sticky toffee pudding was delightful!! We were referred to this restaurant by a gentleman at a nearby bar (which was a little too noisy for us), and it was a nice upgrade. The atmosphere is upscale and cozy, and the service is very attentive and very friendly. My wife and I shared the Salt Baked Beetroot (fivemiletown goats cheese/ balasamic cavier) and a Rocket Salad with Parmesan Cheese, both really fresh and tasty. My wife had the Hannons Delmonico Steak (braised onion/ triple cooked chips/ bernaise which was very tasty, and I had the Mushroom Risotto, which was delicious. We paired with an unoaked Chardonnay for her, and a glass of Bushmills Black Whiskey for me (very nice). All in, a very nice dinner. read more

This place is great! Fantastic service and delicious food with a lovely atmosphere. My husband I both had the spicy chilli beef with fries - we swapped skinny fries for chunky fries and they were really good. The chilli beef is lightly battered and fried with an Napa slaw underneath. They have a fun promotion on Fridays also, where you flip a coin and call heads or tails and get a free drink if you call it right. We called it and both got our first drink free! Another hidden gem down near the Castle Court is Havana Bank Square. Starting it's life as a sort of Cuban restaurant it has changed it's focus in the last year, now concentrating on very pretty, tasty food from no particular place but making seasonality and local ingredients the star. We thought we'd give it a try on a Thursday when they have live music in the form of one guy playing almost classical guitar. The other half didn't know this and it's one of his pet hates, but I loved it, and the quality of the food distracted him from the background. I had the daube of beef, which was slightly overcooked, but still really tasty, and everything had quite obviously been prepared with care. The other half had the chicken, and even though he is a very hard marker gave it a 7/10. I also had a couple of glasses of wine, and you would be hard pressed to find somewhere like this for the money in town. We'll be back, and I might even grab the girls to try their cocktail masterclass, naughty me.. ;-) read more

Abysmal service. I've never left without tipping before, but we were literally blown off time and time again. We ordered 3 appetizers and an entree to share. All of our food arrived at once. Annoying, but hey, that's typically on the kitchen. The moment those 4 plates were placed on our table was the last time we saw the waiter. We stared people down, attempted to wave, and all but resorted to standing on the table and waving our arms in the air to get a 2nd drink. The scallops were beyond amazing. The salmon was dry.. And who cares about the rest because I was ready to stab someone for even a glass of water. Just avoid this place. There are so many restaurants in Belfast that are worth your time and money. It should have been a red flag that we were able to sit down as walk ins at 730 on a Friday night. Even after mentioning the lack of service, the manager motioned towards our STACK of empty plates and said we were 'still nibbling'. Oh, yes. Wow, completely missed the mark with service. We should have taken the hint when only given one menu to share at the start and no drink menu...And only downhill from there. Went on a Friday night when they weren't full, so really no excuse. I'm not picky at all about service either...I've worked in the industry, I know how it can be. Food was good for the most part. Overcooked salmon being the exception, otherwise interesting and flavorful. Really, this was the only saving grace for a 2nd star. Not good enough to excuse the rest, however. I went here for a cocktail making class with 3 friends plus a 2 course meal. Excellent value for £45 which included 4 cocktails! We had the place to ourselves as it was before main evening service which was great. We were welcomed with a glass of Prosecco (nice touch) Stephanie started with the basics and chatted a little about the different styles of drink before we got stuck in to make 4 rather potent vodka based drinks. Please don't expect me to relate exact details as after 2 it was just as well I was sitting down! One was a glorious blue colour and tasted delicious and another was a chocolate and coffee confection which was pretty damn gorgeous! As we were only 4 we each had a cocktail shaker and got to make the 4 very different cocktails individually. It was quite an education and not just a matter of bunging a load of stuff together! It was a fun way to spend an evening and because we were eating there a few steps took us to our table for the evening. We were presented with a nicely printed scroll detailing how to make the drinks at home. On the whole it was a great night and I now make a pretty excellent Cosmopolitan even if I do say so myself!. The food here is consistently good and vfm. It's a real gem tucked away in Bank Square and well worth a turn. read more

I have been going to havana since it opened. I would tell everyone about how wonderful it was. Not anymore. The staff are the best thing about havana. Poor choice of lunch time menu. Overpriced for lunch. I remember getting open sandwich with potato skins on lovely bread. Loved the pasta dishes. Went in on Thursday and if you don't like tiger prawns you will have to get a burger. Told staff I was disappointed with the changes made but they think it's going well. I want lunch at 1 not dinner. Overpriced and out of touch with customers needs. Can't see me rushing back. We dined here around 6:30pm on a Friday and it was bumping already, so definitely recommend reservations. Service was extremely welcoming and professional from start to finish. They have a 2 and 3 course prix fix menu options up until 7pm. For the 3 course meals, we had the Pork Saddle back salad, the Catch of the day(pan-seared Sea bream, with tempura baby squid & seasonal veg), the braised beef, and steamed pudding. Our mate went with the risotto starter with the aged ribeye as an entree. The Saddle back starter was phenomenal, the honey mustard dressing was light yet flavorful and found ourselves mopping up the plate with bread from the bread starter. We all tried the risotto, which all agreed was brilliant. The sea bream had a great skin-on sear, and the oyster sauce and veg laison was grand. Beef was cooked perfectly as was the steak, but veg and starches were scarce, hence recommend ordering some of the a la cart sides. Presentation on all dishes were beautiful. Steamed pudding was nice balance of light and sweet to finish off a wonderful meal. Beer selection is minimal as is the cocktail list, wine list is ok. This is a must when in Belfast. read more

Mmmmm how shall I word all this?! I loved Havana when it first opened 2/3 years ago. Initially it served amazing, mouth-wateringly delicious food in great portion sizes. Cuban inspired dishes which came with bowls of flavoursome side dishes such as deep fried aubergines. It was BYOB and it was fabulous. Back then I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars. Then (strangely) it all changed! Suddenly the fabulous Cuban food was gone and it was standard, unexceptional, bland English/Irish type cuisine. Plus BYOB policy disappeared. Not good - hence I stopped going to Havana and haven't been in about a year. I thought I'd give it a go tonight as a couple of friends wanted to try it. Mmmm don't think I'll return. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad - but it wasn't great either. I had a braised mushroom starter which was very tasty. However my main was very, very disappointing. There was only one vegetarian main on the menu which was a butternut squash stew. I did email Havana during the week to ask about other veggie options and they said they could offer a veggie burger, roast veg sandwich or pasta. However I really shouldn't have to ask - there should be more vegetarian offerings. I (unfortunately) opted for the butternut squash stew. It was a small, bland pot of tinned tomatoes with veg, beans and chilli powder thrown in - accompanied by a small bowl of potatoes on the side. Not great and not at all good value on a pre-theatre menu of 2 courses for £15. Seriously overpriced for what it was. Unfortunately they seemed to muddle up our order and one of my companions had quite a wait on her side of potatoes - she had half her steak eaten by the time it arrived! The wine was ok. The staff did excel and I found them exceptionally helpful, pleasant and delightful - our waiter Robert was just amazing. Absolutely love this place! I was originally brought to Havana with a living social voucher, but have been back time and time again and it has become a favourite place to eat out in Belfast. The slow roast beef is awesome, but everything I have tried from the menu has been of excellent quality. The cocktail menu is worth a try too.
