    Flip it Friday!

This place is great! Fantastic service and delicious food with a lovely atmosphere. My husband I both had the spicy chilli beef with fries - we swapped skinny fries for chunky fries and they were really good. The chilli beef is lightly battered and fried with an Napa slaw underneath. They have a fun promotion on Fridays also, where you flip a coin and call heads or tails and get a free drink if you call it right. We called it and both got our first drink free! We'll be back!

Another hidden gem down near the Castle Court is Havana Bank Square. Starting it's life as a sort of Cuban restaurant it has changed it's focus in the last year, now concentrating on very pretty, tasty food from no particular place but making seasonality and local ingredients the star. We thought we'd give it a try on a Thursday when they have live music in the form of one guy playing almost classical guitar. The other half didn't know this and it's one of his pet hates, but I loved it, and the quality of the food distracted him from the background. I had the daube of beef, which was slightly overcooked, but still really tasty, and everything had quite obviously been prepared with care. The other half had the chicken, and even though he is a very hard marker gave it a 7/10. I also had a couple of glasses of wine, and you would be hard pressed to find somewhere like this for the money in town. We'll be back, and I might even grab the girls to try their cocktail masterclass, naughty me.. ;-)

    The gang of four!

I went here for a cocktail making class with 3 friends plus a 2 course meal. Excellent value for £45 which included 4 cocktails! We had the place to ourselves as it was before main evening service which was great. We were welcomed with a glass of Prosecco (nice touch) Stephanie started with the basics and chatted a little about the different styles of drink before we got stuck in to make 4 rather potent vodka based drinks. Please don't expect me to relate exact details as after 2 it was just as well I was sitting down! One was a glorious blue colour and tasted delicious and another was a chocolate and coffee confection which was pretty damn gorgeous! As we were only 4 we each had a cocktail shaker and got to make the 4 very different cocktails individually. It was quite an education and not just a matter of bunging a load of stuff together! It was a fun way to spend an evening and because we were eating there a few steps took us to our table for the evening. We were presented with a nicely printed scroll detailing how to make the drinks at home. On the whole it was a great night and I now make a pretty excellent Cosmopolitan even if I do say so myself!. The food here is consistently good and vfm. It's a real gem tucked away in Bank Square and well worth a turn.

I have been going to havana since it opened. I would tell everyone about how wonderful it was. Not anymore. The staff are the best thing about havana. Poor choice of lunch time menu. Overpriced for lunch. I remember getting open sandwich with potato skins on lovely bread. Loved the pasta dishes. Went in on Thursday and if you don't like tiger prawns you will have to get a burger. Told staff I was disappointed with the changes made but they think it's going well. I want lunch at 1 not dinner. Overpriced and out of touch with customers needs. Can't see me rushing back. Raging as I loved going here.

Apart from the odd location,in behind Castle court, the service and food more than made up for it. Soft goats cheese starter and spicy soup chunky bread. Delish. morroccan spiced lamb and the largest battered fish and chips for mains. Even delishier. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Overall a very good dining experience.

Review Highlights - Havana Bank Square

The Saddle back starter was phenomenal, the honey mustard dressing was light yet flavorful and found ourselves mopping up the plate with bread from the bread starter.

It was all bar snacks opposed to the actual dishes you see in the yelp pictures. However, I did end up enjoying the food nonetheless. We ordered the sweet chili stack fries which were really good and also the halloumi and cali fish tacos. I preferred the halloumi, my boyfriend preferred the fish. I got a passionfruit capirinha and my boyfriend got an apple cider, both were really good. Overall it was good, but if you're looking for something other than a burger or bar snacks, this isn't the place.

They were really funny and witty and helped us pick out items on the menu. We couldn't order from our phones because we didn't have a number that could receive sms messages to setup the account on our phones, which wasn't a big deal. My vegetarian friend got a veggie burger that he liked and the server said they had just added it to the menu that day. The fries were great and crispy, and everyone liked their sandwiches (some got burgers, some got chicken sandwiches).

For me the darkness adds to the smoking club feeling of Ritas, it kind of feels underground. The decor is definitely vintage with a geisha feel, there's loads of hanging Japanese umbrellas and framed geisha girls. The seating is extremely comfortable, if you get plonked in one of their huge, velvet armchairs that might be you settled for the night. For me, the most impressive thing about Ritas is the cocktails and the staff. I actually commented on Saturday evening that no matter how busy the bar is the staff put the same care and detail in to their creations. I say 'creations' because these really are works of art. I ordered a French Martini for Stacey K and the mixologist seemed to be completely zoned in on making the drink, it was almost as if the 30 other people clambering over the bar didn't exist. I love this attention to detail. They serve a good range of beers as well as having an extensive cocktail list. Blue Moon on tap is always a winner for me. The Linen Quarter is absolutely thriving and in truth it's down to the swanky elegance of Ritas, The Perch and Sweet Afton. I've been to each of these bars a good few times and never once have I experienced any sort of drunken trouble. There's a relaxing atmosphere in all these bars and I really think they highlight the new booming, bussling, vibrant Belfast.

Through Yelp, I had heard about The Perch that from the pictures looked like a cool place to grab a drink. Little did I realize how cool the bar really is when we made our way down this side street and discovered the entrance. The outdoor rooftop bar is located on the fifth floor in the historic Linen Quarter, which can be accessed through a series of twisting and turning hallways before reaching an old school sliding door lift, which one of the door people take you up. Upon reaching the rooftop, you certainly understand why the owners call the bar "The Perch" because it feels like a bird perch between the various bird perches hung over the bar and the overall decor that has an open-air approach, combined with both a 19th Century steampunk meets polynesian feel. Unlike most bars, The Perch only has in stock a few spirits on the shelves (whether this is due to the pandemic or the actual intent). But from my observation, there seems to be a purpose for this as they focus on making a handful of cocktails -- and making them well, they do. The Brambles was my favorite cocktail that was refreshing and delicious, while the Aperol Springs was tasty but strong. But having a couple of delightful drinks but us to a place of spiritual purity and understanding. Highly recommended if you're in town and looking for a cool and chill bar with a sweet ambiance and funky way to enter.
