It all started off so promisingly. I was initially enjoying The Perch, thinking what a great spot it was, if a little gaudy in design - it's basically a newly opened rooftop bar located in Franklin Street, above Chinawhite and Rita's. Then it all went downhill, literally from the very first drink! Unfortunately the service at the bar is terrible. It's one of those spots with what seem like dozens of bar staff, yet you still stand at the bar for 30 minutes being ignored before you're served! This is the case even when it's not actually very busy, as we visited on an early Saturday afternoon. Ironically, there are also dozens of waitresses walking around the floor, lifting glasses and looking bored. However the 'waitresses' won't get you a drink from the bar, despite the fact they look like they've nothing to do! You need to go to the bar to order both your own food and drink. In addition, after having stood at the bar for 30 minutes waiting on an overpriced bottle of Prosecco, I had the misfortune of listening to an obnoxious, rude barman arguing with another customer over whether she ordered 2 glasses of water or 2 glasses of Captain Morgan! She did actually order 2 glasses of water - I was standing beside her and heard her clearly! The drink is standard enough, however we also sampled some truly terrible 'cocktail type' things. Watery, bitter concoctions in which the fruit, syrup and whatever else they consisted of floated to the bottom of the glass. We obtained some food - a couple of halloumi and vegetable skewers and while the food itself was good enough the cooking method wasn't! Everything's cooked on a large BBQ, from which wafts huge amount of smoke. Your eyes sting, the fire alarm was constantly going off and you'll come away with your clothes stinking of smoke. Also the portion sizes are a bit miserable as well - snacks rather than a filling meal. It may be newly opened but I don't think the issues are teething problems. It's just an awful, pretentious, gaudy place filled with artificial grass, insufferable staff, poor cocktails, BBQ smoke and deplorable service. Wild horses couldn't drag me back to this bar!

New York Night Jar & Kill Devil's Garden

The Perch is one of those places which can unfortunately be a bit hit or miss, when it's good it's very good but when it's bad, it's wicked. I have encountered both sides of The Perch and have basically came to the conclusion of avoiding it on Friday and Saturday nights when the clientelle can become slightly snooty. However, after a visit last Thursday afternoon (the joys of a day off) I have to say, I did see another side to The Perch. Admittedly it was teeming with rain outside, so the bar was a little light on customers, however we had a lovely bartender who was really knowledgeable, talking us through the new summer drinks menu. I chose the dubiously titled Kill Devils Garden, my drinking buddy being a bit of a bourbon fan, opted for the New York Night Jar. The great bartender (raging I didn't get his name) talked us through the ingredients and why they all worked so well together, different complimentary flavours etc. Keen to shelter from the rain and given the fact we were basically the only customers in, we savoured out delicious 'summer in a glass' cocktails which were a real taste of summer, even if the weather outside didn't reciprocate that! After another look at the menu we decided to head on else where. The drinks are pretty expensive so it's probably best kept for a more special occasion than just an afternoon booze-up!

The strongest cocktail I've ever had! Negroni!

Be prepared to walk up about seven flights of stairs (there's a lift too) but what awaits you is well worth the trek. The Perch oozes class, there's a mix match of furniture that gives it character despite it being brand new. Take note its an outside bar so it does get chilly but they have you covered, literally, they have wee blankets to keep you warm. The drinks are excellent. Make sure you get one of their sangria jugs. They are tasty but very alcoholic. They cost £25 but there's ample booze for four people. They have music playing so it makes an ideal place to begin or end your evening.

Umbrellas in a rooftop bar don't quite cut it for the Belfast rain Such a pity coz i love this bar

This is an absolute must if you are in the city centre l, especially on a sunny day (however it does get very busy). I've been here a few times and always enjoy the atmosphere, the decor is funky and there really isn't any other outdoor area in the city centre that can compete. You need to dressed smart casual to get in so don't turn up in sweats and trainers cause you'll be turned away As soon as you walk in you can hear the sound of birds tweeting as you walk through the hallway to get to the old fashioned manned elevator that will take you up to the roof. You can take the stairs but I would suggest you only do so to come down as its a hard slog going up When you're up there there are plenty on lovely comfy seats and blankets just incase it gets a bit cold. Half of the area is uncovered but don't fear the staff will bring you an umbrella if it rains I would also recommend trying the cocktails for an extra special treat

This place offers something a little different in Belfast, firstly you walk in and you feel like you are in an aviary which is quite nice. You either have to walk up about seven flights of stairs or wait for a lift to the rooftop. I really loved the look of this bar, lots of interesting little details dotted around the place. The place was packed! Full of lots of the suited and booted, so make sure you are bit dressed up. I found the drinks to be a tad expensive. That being said I really liked my cocktail (processco with passonfruit and raspberry purée) I feel like The Perch would be a perfect place for a girls evening or the beginning of a hen do.

I'm definitely a fan of The Perch - I've been about 3 or 4 times now and I've really enjoyed it! The drinks are great - I'd recommend that you try the jugs of sangria-typed cocktails (don't be put of by Sangria - I hate Sangria) they are delicious! The bar itself is located on the 6th floor so be prepared to walk up six flights of stairs (there is a lift but it takes forever) but it's definitely worth the walk! Each time I've been the weather has been nice although if it was raining I don't think you would enjoy it just as much!

My wife and I car here for a few drinks after dinner. Tip take the lift as there are four Flites of stairs or was it five-lost count!!!! Good workout though. Once we reached heaven it was well worth it. It was still nice and light at 7pm, warm and very busy. Defo get there early for a seat. Great vibe, fantastic drinks and good service!!! Well worth a visit.

A return customer and enjoyed my visit just as much as the first. Very friendly and helpful staff and an excellent drinks selection from the cocktail menu to a nice little choice on tap all reasonably priced. Such a beautiful bar, nothing is missed in the decor so if it's a quiet night over a couple of drinks there's plenty to look at and keep you entertained.

I went on opening week, big and busy. Lovely decor and singing birds on arrival. Friendly staff even when very overworked making cocktails to a huge crowd. Comfy seats and lots of different seated sections. Only been once after and seemed again like after work drinks for late 20's plus and then lots of younger people came around 9.30pm. Semi casual dress.

Headed to the perch tonight after spotting a cocktail on their Facebook page which intrigued me. When we arrived everyone else must of spotted that facebook post too because the 'Lagunita' was everywhere (see pic). Lovely decor and very quirky..The blankets are a nice touch as it can be quite chilly. Pretty busy for a Thursday night. Great place to hang out with friends or even just a date night. I got a bit too cold so headed downstairs to one of the other bars.

Since we had already had lunch we sat at the bar for a beer. We were greeted by a nice bartender. We told her we were looking for either a beer or cider. There are a few tables outside to enjoy the weather and a few tables inside. The bar area downstairs is small with quite a sizable collection of bras hanging from the ceiling. We ordered a Hilden Belfast Blonde and a Small Axe Session IPA. It wasn't super busy so talked to the bartender about travel. As another bartender walked in we also discussed beer and cocktails. He told us that flavored Gins were popular. He let us smell a few of the popular ones since we are not big gin drinkers. Decided to stop in the ladies room before leaving and found an interesting group of old photos while there. We didn't try any food but loved the beer and cocktail options and really enjoyed talking to both the bartenders. Stop by and check it out.

For me the darkness adds to the smoking club feeling of Ritas, it kind of feels underground. The decor is definitely vintage with a geisha feel, there's loads of hanging Japanese umbrellas and framed geisha girls. The seating is extremely comfortable, if you get plonked in one of their huge, velvet armchairs that might be you settled for the night. For me, the most impressive thing about Ritas is the cocktails and the staff. I actually commented on Saturday evening that no matter how busy the bar is the staff put the same care and detail in to their creations. I say 'creations' because these really are works of art. I ordered a French Martini for Stacey K and the mixologist seemed to be completely zoned in on making the drink, it was almost as if the 30 other people clambering over the bar didn't exist. I love this attention to detail. They serve a good range of beers as well as having an extensive cocktail list. Blue Moon on tap is always a winner for me. The Linen Quarter is absolutely thriving and in truth it's down to the swanky elegance of Ritas, The Perch and Sweet Afton. I've been to each of these bars a good few times and never once have I experienced any sort of drunken trouble. There's a relaxing atmosphere in all these bars and I really think they highlight the new booming, bussling, vibrant Belfast.

It's pretty hidden in the alley and not going to lie...coming to a new city, let alone a new country by myself was a bit intimidating, but I found it just in time for my reservation. The space itself has a very long and interesting history, just over 40 seats have been cramped into that space. A couple tables have small glass walls to separate them and squeeze in more diners. And it's pretty loud. So loud, I can barely hear the sommelier describe her wines. There may have been music playing... but who can hear? There seems to be an attempt to elevate the bartender over the sommelier, with the menu encouraging the guests to try specialty cocktails instead of selecting whole bottles of wine. And the bartender's constant ice shaker only adds to the noise. The service is very relaxed, with servers in t-shirts and jeans, sneakers, paper napkins. And the servers seemed a bit inattentive, watching the chefs through the pass, not paying attention to guests' needs. Oh, and the server even wrote "thank you" on the printed bill... How kind. Excellent Flair. Pure Chotchkie's. For the food, I'll return. 2025 04 16. M1. 235.
